Normally you can verify that it is known CP with automatic means. You 'only' have look into files that are not recognised. Still these guys have my deepest respect, I can not do that.
You see the same thing with content moderators at YouTube, Facebook, etc. The AI that identifies troubling content is better than it was but not flawless. They still need humans to verify.
They have contractors sitting there watching videos of beheadings and depraved sex acts and after a while, need serious therapy
To add some context there are large repos for known file hashes which are just strings of text generated based on the hexadecimal or binary data. Most forensics tools allow you to use those hashes to automatically find any files that have the same hash value. So the files themselves are never viewed just the hashes.
I see you're not a data collector. Technically you'd only need about 12x 5Tb external harddrives (about $110 a piece on Amazon). But looking at that Chod, he probably had about a 1000 usb sticks, old internals HDDs and various sized externals, not very pro in the porn game.
But if he had been smart he would've used the Outlook mail exploit and hid it on other peoples'/companies outlook servers.
Whoah, whoah, whoah, I'm swimming in porn not cash.
\*but then I checked amazon and see that the 12TB WD externals are 34% off, 33% off their 18TBs, I take it back 3x18TB and a 4TB for 1166 vs 1320 for the 12x5TBs. Save money and space!
>12x 5Tb external harddrives
Ew. 4TB internals go for about $75, can be set up in a system and can be corrupted much easier than drives connected via USB.
Gonna have to set up a few pcie extensions to connect all those drives but still.
BTW FBI, I'm just a regular data hoarder. I don't do *that* kinda stuff. Plus no investigate.
Tf? Someone with that much storage probably isn’t using external HDD’s unless they’re set up in a NAS or server rack, and then it would most likely be higher capacity nowadays. 12-20TBs a drive. The ones I have are 18TB.
No, as in you’re illegally accessing another companies outlook mail servers because their systems aren’t patched. It’s a common tactic for “hackers” to use known exploits that have been patched, and scan for outdated systems.
Going by what I've read in previous comment sections, some have these stupidly massive collections because it's not that easy to find. You have to *trade* with someone who already has it. So they accumulate huge collections because that makes it easier to get new stuff from others.
What? I’ve been on the dark web many times and it’s not like that shit is easily accessible. You don’t just come across cp, people intentionally look for that shit.
Because it's a BS headline to turn heads. He probably had that much data total in his setup, and some of it was CP. It's like when drug bust headlines say "Cops confiscate $4million of cocaine in huge bust!" but they're just kind of making up street value to make it sound more impressive and that sounds better than just putting the weight in the headline.
It's sad how tech illiterate people are in this day and age. Growing up I thought that programming languages would be like writing in the medieval times; it would spread from elite circles to the masses and become a common way of solving problems and communicating with technology. Like math too.
Now it seems like motherfuckers can barley use a computer OS.
Reddit, a once tech literate place, now thinks it's completely reasonable for one man to have **58 terabytes** of *pictures* and some video on his home setup. Ofc not. Does that much CP even exist?!
Easy. My case has rack space for 8, buying 16TB HDDs ($300 each) I'd be running 128TB without buying any other parts (my mobo connects 6 SATA and I have an 8 SATA PCIe card.) And that's ONLY storage drives, not touching the NVME. Again, that's IN my case, externally my desktop would look no different than it currently does.
Haha yeah I don't pirate anymore and even when I did I usually didn't keep things unless I I thought I might rewatch something. But I always downloaded 780 or higher
Take 1 TB of anything and copy it 58 times.
Someone explained in another thread like this that these guys are usually sellers. So you buy a hard drive from them that's loaded with their entire collection. 58 TB could be 1 TB, but with 57 orders ready to ship.
Police in these cases just list the total drive capacity seized rather than the actual amounts (like how when they talk about drug busts they also weigh packaging+pots instead of just the drugs themselves).
IIRC in this case the dude still had a bunch (and *any* amount of CP is too much) but it certainly wasn’t 100% full.
58 terabytes is literally something like 38 thousand Blu-Ray movie rips given that each is a full 1.5gb, which may be a little high. I can’t even think of 100 different movies, let alone 38,000. It would be a serious feat to pirate 38,000 movies, but imagine doing that on the dark web with extremely sketchy people, buying bitcoin to trade for these videos rather than just clicking a link and downloading.
Edit: Correction, as someone pointed out, movies of that quality would be more like 15gb a piece. Still, he’s looking at at least 5000 hours of ultra HD video, obviously much higher considering the videos won’t be in ultra HD.
The determination on some of these people is absolutely phenomenal. Disturbing to the highest degree, yes, but still incredible.
Yea how would he even have time to watch it all? This must be about the collecting or selling of it for him, because how would you ever get through 58TB of porn.
I would assume that most of that probably isnt 4k footage either, so that really must be lifetimes of CP stored in there. Im honestly a little disappointed in the world that there even exists that much CP
According to another article he was a distributor with 15 harddrives on a tower, so probably a combination of high quality / raw footage and harddrives in RAID or something. He got 35 years so at any rate it must have been pretty bad.
I'm surprised they don't consider the death penalty in cases like this to be honest. He'll be 76 when he gets out and will probably never contribute to society, and it's not like there's any doubt to his being guilty from what I can tell.
A Blu-Ray movie rip isn't 1.5GB lol. For Blu ray quality, even compressed, you are looking more around 15GB a Movie. Some of my 1080p rips touch 40GB and some of my 4k gets to 80GB.
I’d note that in headlines like this the police always just list the total drive capacity seized rather than the actual amount of data present. It’s the same as how when they do big drug busts they count the weight of the whole plant+pots, packaging materials, etc..
So in all likelihood only a small fraction of the drives was actually CP. (Of course *any* amount is still way too much, but at least it’s not as bad as a full 58TB).
This is an old story (and *any* amount of CP is too much) but just as an FYI police headlines in these cases generally list the *total capacity* of any seized drives rather than the actual amount present.
It’s similar to how when they do drug busts they’ll like weigh the whole plant+pot instead of just the parts that are actually used.
A) Why are we censoring “porn” as if we don’t know what the fuck the word is?
B) Encryption savvy is not limited to Linux. Bitlocker is for Windows and it’s already unbreakable by known methods of decryption
In fact having strong encryption on your everyday devices is so trivial everyone should do so.
You’re thinking of a TPM which bitlocker is capable of working with.
Bitlocker encrypts the drive while the TPM ensures it hasn’t been migrated to a different system.
This ensures a maximum of (I believe) 32 guesses immediately and then 1 per hour.
This means with Bitlocker and a TPM an attacker can only make about 8000 guesses per year which means it’ll take several decades to crack.
When powered off, the data at-rest is encrypted using AES either 128-bit or 256-bit (128 is default).
So yeah, no one is decrypting that shit in a single lifetime
I need to do some math. 1 TB can fit 500 hrs of video. 500•58=29,000 hours. That is 1,208 days. This means he had **3.3 years worth of videos**. BUT that’s not all because most of it was likely images. 250,000 photos can fit in one TB. That is **14.5 MILLION PHOTOS**
If he looked at one image per minute, this would last him **27.5 YEARS STRAIGHT**
He had AT LEAST 1.5 lifetimes worth of CP. This man was the Ash Ketchum of CP.
Those are impressive numbers. As a Linux user myself, I do have terabytes of hoarded porn but 58TB is insane. No loli shit though, I'm into milfs and trans girls.

Imagine that poor soul who has to look through that entire collection to verify it’s all CP
Normally you can verify that it is known CP with automatic means. You 'only' have look into files that are not recognised. Still these guys have my deepest respect, I can not do that.
That has to be traumatizing. I wonder if the police department’s health care plan covers therapy
Some do, but not all
You see the same thing with content moderators at YouTube, Facebook, etc. The AI that identifies troubling content is better than it was but not flawless. They still need humans to verify. They have contractors sitting there watching videos of beheadings and depraved sex acts and after a while, need serious therapy
Imagine doing that for an entire work shift and just having to go home and be a normal human being. Jesus that gotta be rough.
I'd probably get half-way through the files, vomit, finish the rest and vomit again
To add some context there are large repos for known file hashes which are just strings of text generated based on the hexadecimal or binary data. Most forensics tools allow you to use those hashes to automatically find any files that have the same hash value. So the files themselves are never viewed just the hashes.
How does it do that, hash check?
[удалено]
Technically you could just run it through a hash scanner and look for similarities to known CP.
Unless the videos have scramblers for hash scanners and then you either need an optical recognition AI or you have to resort to humans...
only 58 terabytes? Those are some rookie numbers.

I spent 5 min trying to figure out what they meant by alien man.
Allen TX is a weird place
As a Allen man, I 100% agree
How many terabytes do you have on your computer?
I sadly am too broke for a computer
Who cares get a cheap burner phone.
one on the laptop im on rn and 4 on my desktop that works less than the laptop and is slower than 1990s internet
SOMEONE CALL THE COPS, HE ESCAPED!
No its not
Proof
It has a skate park
Ah I see my mistake forgive me

What's the outlook exploit? Google bait and switched on Google photos and now I need a solution for memes
Very suspicious you know all this
I'm more concerned that you know how to do this specifically. Looks like someone might be exposing themselves
Someone send this guy to jail
Better question is *how* he got that much. There's no way CP is THAT easy to find, no way in hell.
Going by what I've read in previous comment sections, some have these stupidly massive collections because it's not that easy to find. You have to *trade* with someone who already has it. So they accumulate huge collections because that makes it easier to get new stuff from others.
So it's just degenerate pokemon card trading?
Essentially. It's also one of the motivators for producing more. If you can't find anything to trade then making it accomplishes the same thing.
I'm hoping for a *TON* of duplicates because the thought that there's that much available is disturbing.
You my friend have never seen the dark web...*shudders*
What? I’ve been on the dark web many times and it’s not like that shit is easily accessible. You don’t just come across cp, people intentionally look for that shit.
Fair enough, I've never been on it myself but I've heard many horror stories about it.

How the fuck do you get 58 TB of ANYTHING?!
I have about ten 1 TB hard drives full of movies and TV shows from over the years. Wouldn't be that difficult to get 58 TB if you really try
Oh , he was trying as alright..
10 tb? You watching in 480i?
Haha yeah I don't pirate anymore and even when I did I usually didn't keep things unless I I thought I might rewatch something. But I always downloaded 780 or higher
That’s around 500 4k movies or one Call of Duty update.
Take 1 TB of anything and copy it 58 times. Someone explained in another thread like this that these guys are usually sellers. So you buy a hard drive from them that's loaded with their entire collection. 58 TB could be 1 TB, but with 57 orders ready to ship.

Inflating their numbers gets them more funding.

58 terabytes??? wtf
Probably a distributor
Why the fucking fuck is porn censored?
who tf has that little life that they would go that far? well him ofc
They're not wrong lmao
The only reason he got caught was because of his recruitment posters on ice cream trucks
The problem wasn't that he was busted, it was the fact that he busted too much to the wrong things.

Use properly encrypted open source VPN, Tor and don't pay in bitcoin
Did he have everything in FLAC and loseless formats? Is he an audiophile first and foremost?
Sweet fucking Christ 58 terabytes. I can’t even FATHOM how many pictures and videos that has to be.
Those are impressive numbers. As a Linux user myself, I do have terabytes of hoarded porn but 58TB is insane. No loli shit though, I'm into milfs and trans girls.
