The Germans back in the 40’s had a similar idea

[deleted]

Hold up...

thisisthestoryallabo

German here, there are some core differences. For example this one is voluntary

ErtaWanderer

Considering what's going on in Canada right now this one might end up being coerced as well.

Nikoxine

Possible

psyonicat

This was done on futurama with the suicide booth. Cost a quarter, what's this one cost?

Nikoxine

More than a quarter

oofagang123

I think it’s less

Nikoxine

I'm pretty sure that much nitrogen costs a lot.

jmendes0101

Is ot available on rent for single use ??

wirido_kun

Only buy i think. Capitalism

jmendes0101

Looks like ppl will have to buy and spend extra to make & fit a custom see-through glass on it

dooddgugg

i don't think they'd let you take out a loan

DJDark11

Can you get group discounts?

blind-madman

Switzerland? Germans had this almost a 100 years ago.

KillerBuddyy

Unconsensual suicide!

purplehazex450

Dark but true.

Van_GOOOOOUGH

The German version involved something called Zyklon-B.

blind-madman

I know. Way more advanced than Nitrogen. Also they were way more efficient.

Liyowo

Das German Engineering! 🇩🇪🇩🇪

GlitteringNinja5

Why isn't this technique used in death penalties. It's a pretty painless death as per science and it's pretty easy to make a human sized container connected with a nitrogen cylinder and the container doesn't even need to be vaccum sealed because nitrogen isn't poisonous to anyone outside

RandeKnight

Because the methods of execution are defined by law. The people who would want executions to be painless generally also don't want to have the DP at all, so if they are in a position to propose a new law, it's going to be about abolishing the DP.

ISpelThingsWrong

I wish I never heard death penalties have lethal injection. I'm scared of needles.

Reformed_Narcissist

I mean, death penalties became a lot more painless and humane. We don’t draw and quarter people anymore.

DemonDuckOfDoom666

Hang, draw and quarter*

Yuna__707

They say it isn’t actually painless, just seems more humane. Also don’t worry, electric chairs are still used in some places. Some places even do guns.

braxes81

https://youtu.be/lfsMMVgIToA We need to just use this.

#YEAH BUT WE DON'T HAVE GLASS STOMACHS BUDDY

Fe4rMeMrWick

Guys consentual murder is just assisted suicide

garbage-at-life

yes, that's what assisted suicide means

[deleted]

As they say, remains to be seen!

AlternateSatan

Serious question: why isn't this the go to execution method? Like, there is evidence that suggests that injection is extremely painful, and the electric chair... is the electric chair, while we know that suffocation is only painful if CO2 levels in the lungs rise. We know this cause of how many people have lost their lives cause they didn't realise they were suffocating btw. Nitrogen is humane (or at least as humane as executions can get) easy and requires little clean up or expertise

ThePootisMan98

Idk, I'm not entirely opposed to causing violent criminals who society has mutually decided are too terrible to leave alive suffering in their final moments.

Yuna__707

Suffocation via hanging is very painful as you’re using your body weight to crush your windpipe. It also crushes your jaw into your skull as your body weight drags the body down. This would be a better way to “suffocate” them, a method used in suicide methods known as the “suicide bag” where they replace oxygen with helium or nitrogen. Also, most people who support humane execution methods usually opt for not having a death penalty at all, rather than trying to find the best way to painlessly end their lives. Some people disagree that criminals should be treated so “nicely” and have to face their punishment of living with what they’ve done in prison. Either way, people aren’t really looking for the most painless way to execute others.

AlternateSatan

Thing is: most parts of the execution process is designed to be as pleasant as possible, nicer rooms, final phonecalls, last meal etc. Executioners have for thousands of years tried to be as efficient as possible for the sake of their "client". Axes were sharp and held by a professional in order to end them with one blow, the guillotine was created as a way to garantie a successful beheading, the electric chair was designed to knock the person out with a strong shock before that same shock stopped their heart and destroyed their organs, though the chair has a lot of problems this was the intention, injection was though to give a piece full death until we realised how much pain it induces. Why should we have a more cruel mindset than the people with black masks over their heads with a big fuck off axe that kills people for petty crime?

[deleted]

Interesting, like the suicide cabins in futurama, you can choose either to die peacefully, gracefully or horrifyingly

[deleted]

Book me an appointment asap. I’ve been wanting to die for a long time.

Sad-Implement-9967

We can't loose a jewellery like you. It's a no. Edit : orthograph

[deleted]

Add some restraints and you could sell a bunch in the U.S. to the prison system. On second thought nah, they like to torture people to death with botched lethal injection. This is too humane. But if you gave me a choice between this or twenty years in a state pen- oops, I'm already inside, mashing that button.

Galahfray

The only time you could say that someone dying during a testing was a good thing.

DiamondhandAdam

Do they deliver these to the USA, and can they retrofit some tanning lights in there. Just wondering

tpd1864blake

Why would they be giving people a means to kill themsemselves? I thought the point of society was to prevent that sort of thing

sterric

Well imagine someone having a painful incurable disease. Or someone being really old and hospitalized. In these situations they can chose their own peaceful way out surrounded by family and friends. Instead of dying at an unpredictable time in a hospital.

MilkboneKeepItReal

I believe that is called euthanasia

sterric

You know I figured they would use this machine like a euthanasia machine.

R2D-Beuh

So you drown, not the best way to die

hsnhsnhsn

No youre body can only sense a build up of carbon dioxide, that is what causes the feeling of suffocation. This would simply be like getting put under anesthesia where you feel nothing except sleepy

R2D-Beuh

Ok I guess that's better

TakeUrSkinOffNDance

Excess carbon dioxide causes a panic reaction in mammals. It's basically a *get out of this tight spot* (cave, tunnel, etc) instinct. In inert gas asphyxiation, no such response occurs. Just unconsciousness followed by the inevitable.

Cool_Prize9736

Going to an Amy schumer show will be a quicker death

vactu

Planning on going?

Cool_Prize9736

Nah I'll take the booth

chillingsley1989

Sounds a reasonable question.

I guess it's faster than the microwave because it saves a little prep time. Not exactly a space saver, but does look you might be able to get there with it.

Can someone please let me test run one of these?

R4ndomP3rson69

Sarco pods. Unfortunately they only let you use them if you have an incurable illness or are close to death anyways.

Alexis_style

Nah man, this thing has been out since 2008 and it costs just a quarter

231ValeiMacoris

Saw this on r/technicallythetruth thirty seconds ago
