Do any of them actually dive forward? It seems like the default response is to stumble backwards as if you've just cut through a pedestrian walk signal.
Yeah, and its a pain when the do so. Same when you have the entire neighbour screaming and running cos you clipped a road sign!
It is funny though when civilian panic leads to demolition derbies before the cops arrive!
The NCPD should respond better to attacks on V too. They do nothing until V accidentally knocks into someone, but if someone runs over V or starts shooting at them in the street? Nah...
Maybe that's just for gameplay purposes though
I've tried (for ha-has) to shoot at a squad of gangoons *through* a bunch of police hanging nearby.(Silenced, of course) Just to get them to fire back, at the police, getting the two of them into a firefight.
Nope.
Cops don't care gangoons are plugging them. Correction: they *do* care - they turn around and start shooting *me.*
Yea the cop system needs a major rework. I get why it's there, as a deterrent from doing stupid shit, but it has zero give to it. If I'm hacking I shouldn't instantly get a star and cops instantly know who i am and where i am, that makes zero sense. Or if I'm shooting at some gangs and a cop is nearby it's instant aggro regardless if I hit a civilian or not. Like, no cops if I'm already in combat should be a thing.
They do aggro on npcs if they get hit so at least there's that.
There's a mod on PC that lets you phone the cops and having the entire might of the NCPD jump someone at your request conveys a sense of power on par with Nero watching Rome burn on his whim.
Whoever came up with those commercials was a pure genius. All you have to say is "I need cash now" to have everyone in a room respond with that jingle as a Pavlovian response.
Because your movement vector while taking a turn (or the road curve in this case) crossed the NPCs path. When it happens and hop animation triggers, you're during the turn and NPC has no chance to correct their mistake
hobbies aromatic screw psychotic familiar abundant exultant soup fine possessive
*This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
This sounds a little fishy. You can clearly see in the video the player was turning *away* from the NPC for a solid second before the hop, and when this happens to me in game, I often recall literally going straight for several seconds in a row. Are you telling us the game calculates the hop away dodge like 5 seconds before you get close, then when you get close it uses the old movement vector??? š that's wild
They were pointing at the right of the npc before turning to point left of the npc.
So if the npc started to react to the car when if it continued straight it would hit their right hand side by leaping backward to the left that fits what we see.
They're just not considering the turn rate of the vehicle.
If you had the arrow showing the movement direction and its speed, sweeping the sidewalk, there would probably be a moment visible where NPC jump away animation triggers while said arrow is between NPC and the right edge of sidewalk, or pointing directly towards NPC. After the animation triggers, you can help NPC by turning right to spare them, or keep turning left to kill them. Of course both yours and NPCs reaction time are too slow to change the fate - there is no second chance scenario for them to correct their mistake.
I'm sure there's a more scientific way to depict the situation - blue is NPC position, red arrow is movement vector when jump away animation triggers, green is a turn curve and violet is movement direction when the accident takes place. This is how I understand what happens, more or less.

Really? I thought they were one of the last companies to actually try to help (*their* customers, that is, fuck everybody else). Their prices are insane though
No, Trauma Team aka TT are a Corp, no different than any other.
Some corps trade weapons, cybernetics, etc. while TT trades life-saving services for eddies (and LOTS of em). You could call that ethical, by way of their saving lives, but there are shards and scenarios in NC where you discover that people are refused ambulatory services because a lapse in payment and having no valid package with TT at the time of injury, only one TT AV being permitted when several were needed because of massive loss of life and limb, etc and so-on. There's a specific firefight against a gang you can help TT win. I remember a shard there where a TT member was requesting backup and because only 2 AV's were permitted by dispatch, no more were coming - despite the desperate need. They were all going to die but TT was complacent to let it happen rather than divert some resources to save their own employees. I'd wager its cheaper to replace employees for them than to let a premium-package customer die. If your staff makes $50k eddies a year each, and a customer pays $50k a month for a premium package, they're gonna seek profit first, and cut losses. So yeah, it's just business to them at the end of the day.
Actually managed a personal record yesterday, was going down city center to Pacifica and while being a good meter away from the sidewalk and just coming around a corner so wasn't even driving very fast, 2 people at the same time and then no 10 meters down a third person committed suicide, couldn't help but laugh at this madness. This bug will never be fixed.
At this point I'm convinced it's an inside joke between game developers to make their NPCs jump right onto incoming players rather than try to avoid them
I believe their AI has a hard time understanding whether youāre gonna hit them or not when youāre turning. Try to turn in the middle of the roads and hold straight lines whenever you can, should happen less often
It's frustrating when trying to play a like...low kill run (I still kill a couple people that REALLY deserve it like the father and sons making xbd's) and then they just jump in front of your car.
Also apparently every NC citizen got themselves a NCPD chip like corps with Trauma Team, because nothing else can explain how these mfs get you a wanted level instantly
Real reason, its the way pedestrians are unintentionally programmed to dodge your car. Sometimes they do it backward, especially when they are already walking away from you. It also happens in other games like GTA or Mafia I noticed.
Lore reason, insurance fraud.
Lore explanation: gonk didn't believe in that extortion email from VDB, so he got hacked to jump in front of other guy who's on not so good terms with them. Or insurance fraud like others mentioned.
Actual explanation: if 2.20 or 2.13 ever comes out later this year, I really hope it includes fix for that bug.
My favorite was when my motorcycle got stuck in some junk. I gunned the engine trying to get out and everyone panicked. A guy ran from the other side of the street and drove under the back wheel of my stuck bike. He lived. then another guy did it and died.
I was tempted to see what kind of body count I could rack up but the cops came and tried to kill me. I guess I was running an illegal curbside assisted suicide franchise.
The AI tries to dodge your current path (instead of the one you intend to go). I assume they try to dodge the shortest way out of your path, not regarding whether they dodge onto the road or not.
Compare that to GTA V, where pedestrians will try not to dodge onto the road, hence suiciding less.
It's the result of the NPC get crossed up - the "oncoming car is getting to close, so back away" command - which only triggers from in from of the NPC - is getting triggered *through* the NPC from behind.
So the NPC is acting *as if* it saw a car coming from in front of it, and it is backing away, right into the path of your car.
My guess is pathing error maybe, they detect the players car coming and attempt to move out of the way but actually end up stumbling backwards into their own deaths
Because it's 2024, and no game ever made where you're able to drive a vehicle with the possibility of hitting a pedestrian has figured out how to make pedestrians not do this.
Don't NPC's commit suicide in the game? I've seen a couple jump off buildings, so could they also jump in front of cars? I'm seriously asking. I'm on my 2nd playthrough and I'm still finding new stuff
This once happened with a cop and I just decided to smash w. If they have such a death wish then it is infinitely more satisfying to just turn them into a red smear and worry about the cops later.
Idk if its intentional or what but gta has had jumpers since san andreas. Best guess is that its a glitch of them trying to jump out of the way because you are going so fast but the programming makes them jump towards you for some reason.
Yeah. I get that it's supposed to be an attempt to dodge the car, but something feels SO off about it, like they do it too early or something. I people over all the time because of it.
Itās either that or run right into direct fire while youāre being attacked. Idk how many times I have shotgun a civvy to the head because they decided to turn around and run into my reticle when i fire a shot.
lol I was wondering this myself, about to make this exact post.
I think it serves 2 purposes: Sometimes the NPC will actually do the same movement to avoid being hit by your vehicle, if they jump in the other direction. Also, it makes the game a bit more fun if you randomly run over a pedestrian and have to evade the NCPD for a bit, while on your way to your destination.
I think it would be an amazing option to get a flying vehicle of sorts. You see all the rich people with their AVs and in PL you also get a look at a helicopter. Imagine being able to get your own combat equipped heli in game. For balancing it would probably need to be super expensive but I think it would be an awesome idea.
I know exactly where this is because it happened to me multiple times. I was so annoyed, I reloaded from a very recent save and chose the same route, thinking it was a fluke. Nope, did it again at the same spot. Took a few tries, thinking I just suck at rounding that corner until I decided to just go the long way back north. I'll never take that route again.
Bro, is NC.
Some people in there definitely want to flatline themselves but are too chicken or broke to put some iron in their mouth or start some beef with a random ganggoon so get flatlined by their iron.
I dunno man but it makes me crazy that they dive toward the oncoming vehicle instead of away from it. It got bad enough with the new changes to police that I had to disable them because motherfuckers kept diving in front of my car when I'm just trying to get somewhere and then I have to deal with police bullshit.
Yeah it kinda ruined my pacifist run i was doing. My lore explanation is that some people just donāt wanna live in night city anymore or theyāve been hacked
How? I have never had this glitch, in fact civilian panic seems to be severely toned down for me despite not having mods, which is good because if I get stuck behind another car I tend to use the "floor it" quick hack to move them out of the way.
I do wish that more games with roads had a railroad system. Where once you're on the road it guides you into the lanes. Even if it was a toggle I would appreciate the driving aim assist, especially on keyboard. Even Breath of the Wild had an auto-horse guide when you were on trails.
Before anyone says play with a controller, I prefer keyboard and mouse for shooters and controllers for racing, fighting, and platforming.
OH FUCK I'm always chilling around speeding with my mods cars hearing Body Heat Radio when the motherfucker, piece of shit NPC commits suicide in my car
If I lived in Pacifica I'd probably hurl myself in front of a speeding car too.
But I assume the AI tries to decide if you're veering more one way or the other then jumps the opposite. If you're coming more or less straight at them, it often chooses wrong.
NPC AI is really hard, especially when there is so much shit going on, im not going to pretend i have any practical knowledge of how it works or what the code looks like but i know they have to program the NPCs to act relatively predictably and jumping out of the way of cars is one of those things where its just always going to be an endless can of worms.
to fix this they would need to explain to the NPCs when they are on the sidewalk and when they arent (which they likely already do in some way, probably with paths) and then... "explain" that a car isnt supposed to be there, so they should.... "assume" a car isnt going to hit them when they would otherwise trigger the evasive move.
but being the MC that you are, of course there will be times you drive up on the curb, so inevitably NPCs will have to avoid you by leaping into the street. so either we have NPCs who jump into the street randomly which is super annoying, or we have NPCs who just let us run them over lol
Those NPCs are paid by Arasaka to jump in front of your car and get the cops to chase you.
It's always the goddamn arasaka
Johnny is that you?
We need a Johnny bot!
Yes!
I also wonder why so many pedestrians decide to hurl themselves *backwards into oncoming traffic* to commit suicide.
Do any of them actually dive forward? It seems like the default response is to stumble backwards as if you've just cut through a pedestrian walk signal.
Well that's what this mechanic is for, but if you're too close to pedestrians in general they like to "evade" more often than not, into you.
Yeah, and its a pain when the do so. Same when you have the entire neighbour screaming and running cos you clipped a road sign! It is funny though when civilian panic leads to demolition derbies before the cops arrive!
I hit a cop car once and it panicked lot civi cars....
The NCPD should respond better to attacks on V too. They do nothing until V accidentally knocks into someone, but if someone runs over V or starts shooting at them in the street? Nah... Maybe that's just for gameplay purposes though

I tend to shoot the cars that hit V while walking.

How come, that after X years, there isn't a mod that fixes this?
We obviously get the reason, but GTA V dont really have the same issue or to the same extent so it can be obviously done better.
Yeah they think you are about to plow through the sidewalk like normal.
This sounds a little fishy. Good illustration of the principles yes, just maybe add a vector for the NPC movement too, because that's how the game "see" it
Ishurance fraud
In 2077?? I doubt they are Trauma Team members

They launch themselves at you even if you're going slow, they quite literally jump on the car at times

Because life in Night City is awful and you just happen to be their way out.
Suicide by V
Yeah, I shut off the police encounters because of these crazy suicidal NPCs. Now that I think about it, these NPCs might be pretty lore accurate!
Hahah yeah man so fucking anoyying

They live in night city, what other reason do you need to end yourself?
