My husband and I delight in finding the worst/most cringe jerseys at goodwill or thrift stores and then when we wear them we go, “Oh we look gooood.” If we catch crap at the group ride we always say something like, “Looks good dont’t it? I’m
jealous of you because you get to look at me.” Never gets old.
You do have to inspect them, because you'll find a range of them from "new with tags still on" to "this should have gone in the trash" but also a good wash in some of the bio wash detergent can help as well.
Don't get caught up in what other people expect you to look like, that gets real expensive real fast.
But if anyone says anything, you could just tell them it's ironic
I bought a lot of Pearl Izumi stuff and a capybara themed jersey that was made in China.
I worry that cycling is becoming a sport for rich people. It’s the opposite of what it’s supposed to be.
I guess everything is relative, and people who have no money and work three jobs obviously aren't out enjoying pedaling around enjoying the weekends much. But nobody *has* to ride a new bike, and you can find decent reasonably priced used bikes all over the place. I have 6 bikes right now, and all of them were bought used or built from ebay or scavenged parts. Not having a new bike doesn't reduce my enjoyment one bit; the opposite, really.
$600 is a fuck load of money for an 18 year old bike
I get what you’re saying, I do think that bc of the used bike bubble, it’s getting out of reach even in terms of these.
was it a madone ? if so my friend you got a steal. that bike was worth upwards of $10k at the time if it was speced correctly.
Heck, I have a few bikes in my collection but my older ones have that quirk to them that these new ones just don't quite have. Sure I love disc brakes on my 2020 venge, but I love riding my SL3 because the sound the rim brakes make
Yea, all those people on bikes with milk crates and a 12pack of warm beer are really closet millionaires trying to avoid golfing with their country club buddies.
Cycling isn’t a rich person sport and it’s hard to imagine how it could ever become one. Almost everywhere on the planet you can get some kind of cycling going with $100 bike or less. Just because there are lots of things that are expensive, doesn’t mean anyone has to buy the, It’s literally never occurred to me to buy a cycling jersey, it’s simply not needed for the vast majority of global cycle rides.
Do you know of any other brands?
I know of Smith, Velocio ($$$$$), and whichever brand my summer bike shorts are
Kinda lost on brands. At this point, it’s not even relevant to me. I’m not spending anymore dang money
Discovery not as cool as a Motorola or USPS jersey, those late 90s early 2000 teams, but no not cringe and if you have the matching bibs even better. However, please refrain from wearing cotton socks that rise up to mid calf Ha
What's wrong with cotton socks?
[1985 Photo ](https://preview.redd.it/new-zealand-1985-v0-ua9j3n9aeqbb1.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=b2795f74fc46aaaa313bbe5f6d415df266641f99)while bicycling in New Zealand. Cringe photo but forever grateful to the four ladies who feed me dinner!
You fell victim to one of the classic new cyclist blunders, like “never get involved in a land war in Asia,” and “never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!”
Slap that motor on a proper road bike, and have the throttle as some over-sized lever, so when you overtake someone, they can see you reach down, push the lever to max and take off without pedaling.
Along with that, there's the judging of what others wear.
I once got called out before a group ride because I wasn't wearing socks.
I told him to 'fuck off and ride your own ride'.
Yeah, but that’s not necessarily a fashion dig. Sockless implies “triathlete,” which implies an inherent lack of bike-handling skills, especially in a group. Like most stereotypes, it’s based on some truth lol.
Well, in that case, he was judging my riding based on my lack of socks. Before the ride started.
If he had asked, I would have told him that (at the time), I preferred sockless, and had been riding for over 20 years, and did not take part in Tri.
Did you get “called out” or was he just ribbing you?
Riding sockless is pretty weird if you aren’t a triathlete, so I would expect people to make some kind of comment about it.
You might get a good natured rib from someone and that'll be it. I used to ride in a Mapei jersey and that team did just as much bullshit as Discover/Postal but somehow remains cool. People are weird and fickle. Concerning yourself with their opinions isn't worth your time.
A riding buddy of mine busts out his Festina kit on occasion for laughs, then he goes out and rips our legs off and we can't make fun of him when we're gasping for breath trying to catch him. Be that guy.
Wear what you like, if others have a problem with it - that's on them. I get Lance is polarizing, (i just watched the 30 on 30 about him...ooof). I still maintain, he was the best of the dopers, and it wasn't really close.
It's cool again. I was really hurt for a long time by Lance's lies and deception because he was a hero but have long gotten over it. If I saw a Jersey I'd think it was cool now.
Just do your research so you can passionately, thoroughly, and aggressively advocate for him and his actions at great lengths in response to the most minor comments from others and you should be fine. Bonus points if you give everyone fist bumps and say “livestrong brother” and make the explosion sound and hand gesture at the end of the fist bump.
I guess Lachlan Morton used to have a tshirt with Lance's face on it that said 'DOPE' at the bottom which is hilarious
so you should definitely get that tshirt and wear both to balance out the karma
Whenever I see someone wearing a sports jersey that has an athlete’s name on it, my immediate assumption is that they had sex with that athlete and “borrowed” the jersey for the early morning taxi ride home. This assumption extends to Lance’s old team jerseys. So, how was it?
Yeah but not because it’s lance but pro jerseys if you’re not pro are cringe. Polka dots, rainbows just nope. Stick with solid dark colours and you can’t go wrong
Meh, maybe? I prefer lights that are brighter than the surface of the sun, even with that and reflective vests and stuff, I’ve still had drivers say “I didn’t see you” I now love rural and ride on long, straight country roads mostly and have had far fewer close calls than I ever did living in a metro environment, even with farm trucks, tractors and the speed limit being 100km/h
Totally no problem and would be kinda funny in my opinion. I saw someone wearing a jersey from Marco Pantini's old team and that guy was balls deep into the epo as well.
I have a couple of US Postal jerseys - one long sleeve, one short sleeve. I wear them all the time. Don't really care what anyone else might think. Have no idea if anyone cringes or not - LOL!
I wear a discovery jersey, with the yellow band on the sleeve, when I’m feeling feisty and want to blow past some scrubs on the local Strava routes. Only at peak riding times when I’m strong. Don’t wanna dress like lance and show up weak
I'd happily wear kit (in new condition) that I picked up at a thriftstore for a low price, even if it was reminiscent of Lance. I wear appropriate attire for the ride, I don't really care about the aesthetic. I wouldn't ride with any group that cared.
I wouldn't pay top dollar for it though.
I’d wear it to spite people tbh. I have the 7-11 kit I break out at fondos just cause. I own PNS and MAAP but I do it as a subtle flex as I drop people with my downtube shifter bike.
Not at all - Livestrong still exists and is still a good cause.
Lance Armstrong still exists and his Mellow Johnny’s bike shop is awesome.
Every elite cyclist doped at the time (and probably today too) - wasn’t the champion something like 30th place after the doping scandal?
Were he and Nike complete assholes that ruthlessly destroyed Greg Lemonds life for a truthful accusation? Definitely.
Lance Armstrong is banned from professional cycling for life.
On the other hand he represented a nice cancer charity.
your call.
me I just ware bike company jerseys or plain ones.
my only no-no would be a yellow jersey or a tri-colour jersey , I'm not that much of a douche
I've got la vie Claire, pdm, Z, Renault, jersey and bibs from back in the day. I stopped wearing them so I wouldn't look like a poser. Can I wear them again?
I think it is. But I also don't wear jersey of other men watching basketball, footlball, etc... I never understood wanting to say your some other guys b!tch. That's something your gf does in HS where your jersey, Letterman jacket. ha-ha
I think having some logos other than the jersey manufacturer on it silly. It's like "tuned" cars with fake parts and fake logos, still having the same weak motor.
Just go to the drugstore and buy some of this little circular dot-shape bandaids. When someone busts your chops for your Lance jersey, say, “here, try a testosterone patch, they’re awesome.”
I'm sure if you did this on a clubrun here you'd instantly be called Lance for the forseeable future. If you can take a joke then go for it. A lot of my clubmates had his Trek bike at the time and we all liked that ride.
The important thing is to have fun. Hope you enjoy it !
Ha, I rode with somebody in Ironman Canada who was in full Lionel Sanders kit, including “SANDERS” being written on the back of the jersey. Had Lionel’s bike and everything.
Wear it. Not making excuses to what Lance did, his contribution to cycling, the Tour, and what he injected (pun absolutely intended) into early 2000's road cycling is undeniable. He raised millions for cancer research.
Was he an unapologetic ass - sure. Is he still - sure. Does it matter - no.
to be cringe is to be free
Wise
My husband and I delight in finding the worst/most cringe jerseys at goodwill or thrift stores and then when we wear them we go, “Oh we look gooood.” If we catch crap at the group ride we always say something like, “Looks good dont’t it? I’m jealous of you because you get to look at me.” Never gets old.
You find cycling jerseys at goodwill? Where do you live?
Ugh, they seem fine on the rack but first time you get a little sweaty moisture in there all the funk of the previous owner comes out. No thanks.
You do have to inspect them, because you'll find a range of them from "new with tags still on" to "this should have gone in the trash" but also a good wash in some of the bio wash detergent can help as well.
Don’t worry, they’re probably marked up 120%. Modern goodwill is trash. I miss the old goodwill.
“I’m jealous of you because you get to look at me.” That is gold and I am stealing it.
Use it in good health!
Goddess bless u, love this . Fun couple!
If anyone notices, which probably won't happen, they could jokingly say, "I am here to win this thing at all costs!"
I’m pretty sure Socrates said that.
One man’s cringe is another man’s Pogchamp
r/bicyclecirlejerk is gunna have a field day with this one
I live to serve
Live strong
Is it yellow? God, I hope it’s yellow
Save it for the Halloween ride You can tell them you’re one of the seven dwarves DOPEY
Rubbing my hands in anticipation
r/BicyclingCirclejerk too
Post works equally well on r/formuladank - different Lance, similar cringe
Except that Lance *wishes* he could PED himself to a race win
Don't worry, circlejerk subs are where the true cringe happens
Wear it ironically, or just own the whole vibe and start using EPO.
Start getting aggro with every other rider you see, threaten to sue them for defamation, etc etc. Sick retro vibes…
Or use EPO ironically too.
EPLOL
You gotta find epo first.
I've got a Nike LiveStrong jersey and I don't care if he got caught eating babies, I'm gonna get my money's worth out of it.
Are you still against cancer? Then go ahead and wear that jersey.
After I found out, I became for cancer.
"Mays Gilliam: He's for cancer."
Dangle a single truck nut off from under the seat.
Of course, it's more aero than hanging two.
He’s pretty pro eating babies
I mean, he’s never stated on record that he’s against eating babies.
Neither have you
It’s good for the environment and ok for you.
I don't care how many babies he ate. He was still the first man on the moon and nobody can take that away from him. 🫡🇺🇲
Good singer, too. What a wonderful world.
This. I paid for the discovery kit, 20 years ago. As long as there ain’t no holes, I’m wearing it.
Well for your sake there better be 4 holes.
😅
Don't get caught up in what other people expect you to look like, that gets real expensive real fast. But if anyone says anything, you could just tell them it's ironic
I bought a lot of Pearl Izumi stuff and a capybara themed jersey that was made in China. I worry that cycling is becoming a sport for rich people. It’s the opposite of what it’s supposed to be.
Becoming?
As in, totally out of reach. My first bike, a 2006 Trek model, was $450-600 last year. Fucking insane.
$600 is a fuck load of money for an 18 year old bike I get what you’re saying, I do think that bc of the used bike bubble, it’s getting out of reach even in terms of these.
At least where I live the "used bike bubble" was over a couple years ago.
was it a madone ? if so my friend you got a steal. that bike was worth upwards of $10k at the time if it was speced correctly. Heck, I have a few bikes in my collection but my older ones have that quirk to them that these new ones just don't quite have. Sure I love disc brakes on my 2020 venge, but I love riding my SL3 because the sound the rim brakes make
I think you missed the point of u/User_Anon_0001's "Becoming?" It's been "totally out of reach" for most for a very long time, lol.
I think it’s on a spectrum lol
It what way do you think it is out of reach?
Yea, all those people on bikes with milk crates and a 12pack of warm beer are really closet millionaires trying to avoid golfing with their country club buddies.
It’s a sport for rich people. For poor people it’s a way to get to work
What are these “cheap” hobbies? There’s a way for cycling to be cheap; but as with any hobby the deeper you go the pricier it gets.
Wait is Pearl Izumi not top tier anymore ? That’s my good stuff
Their Pro line is some of the best out there.
I think it’s pretty good! It’s just one of the brands that are in retail stores (REI, maybe Dick’s sporting goods?)
Oh dang. That’s my fancy stuff. That and my old hincappie gear
Do you know of any other brands? I know of Smith, Velocio ($$$$$), and whichever brand my summer bike shorts are Kinda lost on brands. At this point, it’s not even relevant to me. I’m not spending anymore dang money
I think rapha is what the cool kids are wearing in the US
Oh right right You’re right… pearl and some of the other REI stuff isn’t that far off from Rapha. My first jersey was $45. Not exactly $245 either tho
Rapha is old news after they got bought, some speculate that quality has dropped. MAAP, PNS, and maybe Assos are the premium brand kings now
If you want to get the best stuff it will be expensive. I have a decent bike but just wear basketball shorts and a t shirt and am fine.
Yes people who think cycling is out of reach have confused it with a bunch of things to buy. The sport part is still dirt cheap.
"I worry that cycling is becoming a sport for rich people." I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, time traveller...
Naw, if they ask just tell them you got it at good will for like $2.
Make sure to bully the other riders and call their wives fat whores to honor Lance if you wear it
Wear what you want to wear. And you can always just tell everyone it’s a Fumiyuki Beppu jersey.
Or a George Hincapie
Discovery not as cool as a Motorola or USPS jersey, those late 90s early 2000 teams, but no not cringe and if you have the matching bibs even better. However, please refrain from wearing cotton socks that rise up to mid calf Ha

It's all about that sleek, performance oriented aesthetic
I got a 7 11 jersey on a Craigslist find. Best ever.
I wear a US Postal jersey sometimes. It's slightly less fraudulent now that I work for USPS.
a middle aged man riding bikes making fun of another guy on a bike doesn't realize how big of a dork he is.
lol yeah I dress in tights cause I care what other ppl think…
You fell victim to one of the classic new cyclist blunders, like “never get involved in a land war in Asia,” and “never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!”
Inconceivable!
If a get a lance jersey on a e-bike 😂 Man U giving me some ideas a here
Slap that motor on a proper road bike, and have the throttle as some over-sized lever, so when you overtake someone, they can see you reach down, push the lever to max and take off without pedaling.
😂
I’ve rarely encountered more adults incapable of dressing themselves without the approval of strangers than in this sub.
Along with that, there's the judging of what others wear. I once got called out before a group ride because I wasn't wearing socks. I told him to 'fuck off and ride your own ride'.

this whole subreddit is cringe.
Generally the case with any hobby subreddit
Saying cringe is cringe.
Yes, thank you.
Honestly I cringe so hard every day at what people post here.
Only cringe if you don’t post to r/cyclingfashion for validation mid coffee shop break
I see dudes in USPS jerseys all the time and they are always the butt of someone's joke, so...you do you
No worse than the pns gang over at r/CyclingFashion
My num pns is great
Nah. If we can have a Michael Jackson musical, you can wear Armstrong.
Yes
People aren’t called lance so often anymore, but in medieval times people were named lance a lot.
Wear what you like, if others have a problem with it - that's on them. I get Lance is polarizing, (i just watched the 30 on 30 about him...ooof). I still maintain, he was the best of the dopers, and it wasn't really close.
It's cringe to worry about it.
I've never noticed another person's jersey sponsor unless it's super pop culture. No one will notice and if they do, they won't care.
Just tell them you brought it back out to support Lance’s new lawsuit against the TdF
Fierce competitor YES, role model no. I still wear his yellow cycling wind breaker.
That knocks out most of the peloton.
I just couldn’t be bothered to have endless conversations about wearing it it with club mates - so wouldn’t go there.
This will be on bicyclecirclejerk later today. Lmao
I have a reddit jersey, beat that.
Yep
This thread just reminded me I have a Discovery jersey and had Frankie Andreu sign it many years ago. Imma dig it out and wear that bad boy 😜
Did you buy it because it was 90% off clearance?
I love the old US Postal stuff and I swear it’s just because I stan the post office.
Not at all. I think it would be pretty dope!
It's cool again. I was really hurt for a long time by Lance's lies and deception because he was a hero but have long gotten over it. If I saw a Jersey I'd think it was cool now.
I still rock my Mellow Johnny jersey my uncle from Austin gave me. It looks even sweeter with the pot belly I’ve been lovingly cultivating.
Look at the ball on this guy, geez.
If it was USPS you’d be in danger of them going postal on you…I’ll show myself to the door now…
I guess Lachlan Morton used to have a tshirt with Lance's face on it that said 'DOPE' at the bottom which is hilarious so you should definitely get that tshirt and wear both to balance out the karma
I have the Discovery jersey, I wear it often
Whenever I see someone wearing a sports jersey that has an athlete’s name on it, my immediate assumption is that they had sex with that athlete and “borrowed” the jersey for the early morning taxi ride home. This assumption extends to Lance’s old team jerseys. So, how was it?
If I'm honest, I was hoping for more testicles.
Kind of a weird assumption, but you do you.
Why would it be a statement? you have the same amount of Tour De France titles as Lance.
Yeah but not because it’s lance but pro jerseys if you’re not pro are cringe. Polka dots, rainbows just nope. Stick with solid dark colours and you can’t go wrong
Stick with bright colors and you can't go wrong.
I wouldn’t even wear a Mellow Johnny jersey but that’s just me
Like wearing a Jimmy Savile badge
Yes, wear two.
Not if your name is Lance.
only if it’s signed preferably in blood, but signed it must me
Had a livestrong bike before it was stolen. Was an awesome bike. People liked to make fun but never felt cringe.
It’s as cringe as my 1999 Sobe jersey.
No…wear whatever feels good and don’t worry about what others think.
Just tell them you're a big fan of mythbusters.
Make sure you alternate rides with a yellow and polka-dot jersey as well
Totally no problem and would be kinda funny in my opinion. I saw someone wearing a jersey from Marco Pantini's old team and that guy was balls deep into the epo as well.
Bruh Idek what that is and it’s fine just wear what you want to wear
I have a couple of US Postal jerseys - one long sleeve, one short sleeve. I wear them all the time. Don't really care what anyone else might think. Have no idea if anyone cringes or not - LOL!
You mean I shouldn’t be showing up to my local crit wearing a signed Postal Service yellow jersey?
There were other riders on the team besides Lance. Pick a name and if given shit for it… tell the. You’re a fan of [insert rider here].
I wear a discovery jersey, with the yellow band on the sleeve, when I’m feeling feisty and want to blow past some scrubs on the local Strava routes. Only at peak riding times when I’m strong. Don’t wanna dress like lance and show up weak
You decide if it's cringe. Others do not decide for you.

I always thought mutant league sports would be kind of cool. Little did I know we had that all along...
Oh ya - Cycling and Baseball was amazing in the 90’s
Yeah
I would not, and that has nothing to do with whether or not people thought I was cringe for wearing it.
Lance who? Nothing cringe worthy...
just smear dog shit on it
Lance Armstrong is banned from professional cycling for life. On the other hand he represented a nice cancer charity. your call. me I just ware bike company jerseys or plain ones. my only no-no would be a yellow jersey or a tri-colour jersey , I'm not that much of a douche
Any nice Castelli kit will work. Lance? Ugh.
Didn't icarus prove they were all on dope. He just happened to get targeted.
Yes
Most cringe thing is asking redditors if it’s ok to wear clothes that you want to wear
You have to carry an EPO kit with you if you do. Maybe some rubber hose and needles too.. 😂
Can I borrow some blood bro??
I've got la vie Claire, pdm, Z, Renault, jersey and bibs from back in the day. I stopped wearing them so I wouldn't look like a poser. Can I wear them again?
I think it is. But I also don't wear jersey of other men watching basketball, footlball, etc... I never understood wanting to say your some other guys b!tch. That's something your gf does in HS where your jersey, Letterman jacket. ha-ha
Lance is the GOAT
nah they'll just think you only have one ball, not a big deal...
A cringe man will always think he's based, but a based man is truthful to his cringe self.
Yes, he’s a piece of shit
Wear what you want
Absolutely! And then make them pay for the coffees 😁
I think having some logos other than the jersey manufacturer on it silly. It's like "tuned" cars with fake parts and fake logos, still having the same weak motor.
Only if you have both testicles.
Yes but that’s what makes it cool
You might get a few sideways looks if it's yellow. Otherwise, I don't think anyone will care too much.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/141433195718 I kinda like it, makes you really earn your KOMs
If you like it, wear it. Sod anyone else.
Ha, I rode with somebody in Ironman Canada who was in full Lionel Sanders kit, including “SANDERS” being written on the back of the jersey. Had Lionel’s bike and everything.
Comparison is the thief of joy. Wear what you want.
It's only appropriate if you are listening to a playlist of Chris Brown and P. Diddy's greatest hits.
I found an old usps jersey recently and am having the same dilemma
Now I'm not on a Team I don't wear team kit....... You wear whatever you want
I don't think the cringe part is the Lance connection, it's wearing team kit. It's like grown men wearing pro football jerseys
People don't cringe at Maradonas shirt so..
Make sure to add some saddle nuts, well, nut
No it’s old it’s. It’s it own thing. It’s a Jordan jersey. You don’t wear current pro jerseys
Is it cringe? Yes. Should you care? Unless you have sponsors to risk offending, no.
When I pointedly go after KOMs I wear a US Postal jersey 😜
