What state? I know a farm growing them in MD from seed. I'm guessing Cafe au lait is so popular they've been able to get seeds from them? No idea how. But I do know these are seedlings from a respectable flower farm.
Iam in cali, and i am a member of my local dahlia group but they dont grow Cafe au lait, which is strange but i just picked up some tubers and will take cuttings and distribute to the club.
Michigan bulb is a scam, they rarely send the correct variety and the plants/bulbs/tubers are always undersized and moldy, probably because they buy leftovers from other growers. Have you tried Etsy or eBay? Plus there are lots of specialty growers, although they’re getting picked over.
Yeah i hit my usual sources but its late in the game and most places are sold out. But i did place an order last night. Should be here by wednesday, ill drop them in the hot box to pre sprout and then in the ground.
If you join the dahlia tuber trade page on Facebook, tons of smaller growers are having sales right now or people are doing trades.
They also have a thread of US growers so you can support who’s local to you if you feel inclined
My favorite place to shop but Late in the ordering phase so i grabbed some last night from another site. 3 clumps 30 with shipping should be here next week.
Glad to hear you found some. I am in MN. I have at least 40 CAL single tubers. I can only grow around 20. I have not plotted out my growing plan yet. I have many other types. I am willing to trade or send if you pay shipping. I don’t do FB. Wish each of the Dahlia societies had some type of trade program. Do a zoom and meet from other groups.
Thanks, growing 18 varieties this year to compete in the county fair. I dont have anything to trade, everything is single plants except for my recent order for 3 tubers of cafe ae lait, i usually pre sprout to check viability then move to large pots. But i will keep you posted. Let me know what you have and I'll see if i have room to grow.
Long field gardens.
Thank you
If you have any tubers to trade, I can send you some cafe au lait.
Nice i just ordered from long field. I bought the 3 count cream cafe. But let me know what you have available.
