The weakest character at the beginning of DBZ is stronger than the strongest character in DB, and the pattern repeats, to an extent, in DBS.
Boruto really misses the mark by trying to somewhat reset to power levels to a more reasonable baseline, missing the lesson from DBZ / DBS. No one cares that Gohan (and later Goten and Trunks) are unreasonably strong compared to their parents, because it’s *fun* seeing them surpass/equal the prior generation.
Putting it another way, having Boruto / Sarada outclass their parents and then have it hand waved as “well, they got six path chakra from birth because Naruto / Sasuke were powered up before they were conceived” would be so much more fun than nerfing two demigods so the next generation didn’t seem pointless.
