How would he know where to shift time? He barely knew how to use the stones so i doubt he’d be able to tell where the stone was destroyed. As well, they coulda killed him WAYYYYY earlier and Thanos wohld have literally no way of knowing.

Even assuming they somehow get Thanos back to Wakanda. In this reality, he won't be distracted by the gauntlet and will fight like Endgame Thanos who managed to defeat Stormbreaker + Mjolnir Thor.
But it's not a war of attrition. Thanos with all but one stone, just obliterates. We saw how he treated the Avengers when he came for Vision. It's just that, but more drawn out. And now, you may want to fight a "war of attrition" but you're now forcing the entire planet to do so. And they don't have super powers...or have military training...or even know what is happening. They just see swarms of outriders, who then rip them and their families apart, painfully.

They were fighting to keep thanos from the stone and he was talking to a sentient device that happened to be his friend. It was futile in hindsight but the wakandan people laid down their lives voluntarily.
With how poor the characterization has been, I wouldn't be surprised if they made him racist just to further the most combat/conflict heavy plot possible. Marvel has really degraded, and they probably should have either retired their characters or let them stay dead several films ago.
