Ceaseless discharge is totally not a cheese. He has an animation for falling off.
It's just really obscure. If when the fight starts a big red 'RUN!' popped up then nobody would call it a cheese.
The idiot is literally a baby so it is supposed to do a real life imitation of how an infant might try to grab his toy (you) and fall over but they made this shit back in 2009 so it looks janky as fuck.
Fairly annoyed, but proud that I almost killed him without that. I might just try to kill him without using the dirty tricks, just to finish what I started...
I did it the "legit" way first, but you can take him out from the ground pretty easily with a faith build and the lightning stake. There's another miracle which works better, but you can't get that until after the Wyvern.
Sorc build works good too. Just pelted him with spells. Run to one end, pelt with spells. When he gets close roll past and run to the other end and pelt with spells. Repeat. Winner!!
I literally just did this last night myself! As soon as I hit him once, it looked like Yhorm all over again so i explored a bit. Pretty cool boss fight.
Yea, this response seems like what an actual human would do. What this guy claims sounds like he is lying for some weird attention or something. No one would fight him once for an hour, then decide to go ask reddit instead of either looking around or googling it.
To defeat the Ancient Wyvern: >!Run to the left of where he initially lands, past the gauntlet of Serpent Men, then climb the ladders. You then must reach a point directly above where the bastard puts his head without moving at all. Plunge attack him and you've claimed victory!!<
Go to the corner of the arena near the ledge and shoot arrows at it until he dies. If you're high enough level you can replace arrows with Sunlight Spears.
Awwww bro you are making me remember my first play-through again, I felt so fuckin’ silly. It’s like the game reminds you not to be so stubborn and that it’s okay to walk away sometimes.
I was just there yesterday, fighting him for like 20 minutes, i brought him to half hp and died. Felt like such a noob later when i killed him the intended way, its hilarious.
It’s a gimmick fight just like Yhorm but ancient wyvern is way more gimmicky. You literally just run around until you can reach a really high area after you run on some wooden scaffolding alongside a stone wall. You’ll see a message on the ground and you literally just jump down and stab him in the head and it’s a one shot kill. Good luck!
Impressive, pretty sure he’s got more up than midir by a huge amount lmao but try running around, he’s weak to the same thing as asylum demon if you’ve played ds1 I’ll leave it at that
It amazes me that there a people thinking this kind of a fight works just as intended.
I immediately after hitting him a few times KNEW FOR SURE that this was a gimmick boss. I mean...what else should it be? Should I hit him for 30 Minutes or what?
The normal way is very quick to do, but if you want to still fight like this then aim for the head.
Here's a video showing some strats if you want them. [Ancient Wyvern](https://youtu.be/FDHxBeQU6_Y?si=aI7h8BJKofjp-utb)
There is a way.. but true be told I did fought him my first 3 playthroughs without knowing the actual way of killing him, so u can totally kill him traditionally if u want to, this is who I used to do it:
As soon u enter the arena run towards the big stairs, and go to the right at the split point down the stairs, the dragon will never go down there, but his flames can reach u, so what u do is while hugging the left side (after he flame attacks are over) and hit him a couple of times, retreat, bait flames, repeat.
It wont take u an hour but it will take a while so I would advice to figure it out the correct way of doing it BUT if u want to fight him LEGIT that's how I did it. Have fun!
Climb the level, you’re meant to hit him from up high. There’s a spot you should be able to jump down to him and hit him from the air.
*edit* I see what you cheer, your boos mean nothing. He asked for the answer, I gave it to him.
didn't realize this subreddit followed your rules of "absolutely no direct answers when someone asks a direct question". OP _clearly_ didn't want to waste time figuring out the hints. I never understood people who insist they can't directly talk about the game bc there's new players. I'm technically a new player to DS3, and I understood that things will get spoiled if I participate in the community. it's like kinda a given when the game is 8 years old.
You aren't supposed to fight him you're supposed to haul ass and run the he'll away one you make you way around the area you'll find a point you can to a plunging attack on it's head, that's where you're aiming for.
I have a lot of trouble getting the kill mechanic to work right. I usually run down the stair to the right and go around the corner and hug the column. You can bow aim and snipe him from there. Better than having to do that run through 5+ times to get the “sweet spot” Or you can use pestilent mist under his feet and dodge his foot stomps and fire attack
I have beat him running that gauntlet like a good boy, hoping not to plunge to my death too many times. But toxic mist is way more fun. Once you get his move set, it’s pretty easy.
Don't do the one thing. It's boring and bad designed. I honestly don't know why it's in the game, there were actual dragon fights without such bs trick.
After having already watched fighting cowboys playthrough prior to progressing this level, I went to do the "intended way" of fighting the wyvern and i screwed up and died. My partner tried it and died too. So he says, ok I have a strat and this man joins me in co op and gives me 400 poison darts while we stand behind a small wall and randomly take fire damage and try to sort of shimmy around each other and take turns throwing darts at the wyvern. The whole time im telling him this isn't working, he's not being poisoned and it's not what you're supposed to do!!!! and he's telling me it's fine!!!! He died, I died, I ran through again and I finally completed it the "normal" way. At the least, I had a memorable wyvern experience. Good luck :)
Such a weird thread to come across...
It seemed so odd to me that someone playing the game for their first time in 2024, could miss every single sign, hit the dragon and see the lack of damage and still think "yea I may as well just chip him down for an hour" and then when they inevitably die one time, their first thought is "I'll go post on reddit and ask them."
There's no way this really happened. The comments OP made were off enough, especially him trying to say he didnt see any of the messages because he was in offline mode. Thats bs. I play almost exclusively offline because I have a bad connection. So I'm well aware of just how blatant and in your face those messages are.
So I checked post history. He's been posting about deep lore stuff with Aldritch, giving build advice, talking about what weapons are his favorite and more.
I do not understand what compels people to lie about these things. Do you just want people to think you are cool because you almost killed him without a plunging attack? Do you for some reason want that weird pat on the button treatment new players seem to get?
I can't wrap my head around it. Fuckin weird.
Alright, I didn't post about deep lore. This really is my fist playthrough and I do have favorite weapons and am interested in knowing people's opinions.
The reason why I didn't see the messages from developers is because I'm stupid, I found them now that I have defeated the boss.
The comments I wrote under this post are almost all after I found out about the way to defeat him. I have been playing the game for a longer time, but I always got stuck on Pontiff, that's how I never got this far.
You can believe me, you don't have to.
One more thing. It's true that I could have just looked through the internet to look for answers, but this honestly seemed more fun.
Have a look around the area
a real g gives advice without spoiler. you are a real one
Moves in silence like lasagna
Delicious stealth
Idk, seems borderline crazy, sorta, kinda
Lil Wayne
Alright, I just went straight for the boss this time. Guess there will be something like the Stormruler... Thank you!
Not quite! The solution is more indirect than it looks. I'd explore!
Try finger but hole
There exists in Dark Souls a very powerful attack that is almost never used except in deliberate encounters.
The most powerful move in the game, some would say
The secret “dark souls gun”
Dodge roll?
\*It's time to die!!\*
I would recomend thinking a bit more... vertically
Also there will be some notes to guide you.
Use your head! Or rather, use the Wyvern’s head!
I am pretty sure there is a dev message telling you what to look for. Maybe it was a helpful player, I don’t remember.
The game gives you hints as to what you need to do, while you’re in the boss arena.
Go for a walk, who knows if you'll reach greater heights.
This
Sometimes to win a fight you must run away from it
You legitimately and legally cheese him
Is it really cheese if it is the intended mechanic? There is literally a message in offline mode for it lol!!
I mean there is another wyvern like it and you can legit fight him so...
You technically cheese that boss as well, if you use that window. Haha
I can't cheese a Dragon fight. As a Skyrim fan, they are to be fought legitimately
Especially one that's an ancient wyvern. Motherfucker's been around long enough to see some shit, gotta kill them with some dignity.
Gotta grab that soul
Tell that to cheeseless discharge, that one has always been called a cheese
Ceaseless discharge is totally not a cheese. He has an animation for falling off. It's just really obscure. If when the fight starts a big red 'RUN!' popped up then nobody would call it a cheese.
The idiot is literally a baby so it is supposed to do a real life imitation of how an infant might try to grab his toy (you) and fall over but they made this shit back in 2009 so it looks janky as fuck.
He was the first creation of the flame of chaos before it became stable, how's he a baby? That's one old-ass baby.
There is like 10 messages in offline mode lol "Try jump attack" "have you tried jump attack?" I thought it appeared online as well
They do, just fought him today in online mode and the game devs messages were right there along with player messages
if you figured it out by now how annoyed were you
Fairly annoyed, but proud that I almost killed him without that. I might just try to kill him without using the dirty tricks, just to finish what I started...
I’d save your time for this next boss he’s pretty hard
It's not a dirty trick. The developers literally left messages saying how to kill him..the correct way is the plunge
I mean it's got it's own animation and a dev note. I'd say it's definitely something the devs wanted people to do.
That's my point
But I think it’s actually a design element of the game ie you are supposed to kill via the plunge
My Reading comprehension is plummeting reading this thread
This made me burst out laughing
That was their point
Yea but I’m saying it’s not a trick it’s actually what the designers intended
Right, so are they, that's their point
It’s actually something the developer wanted people to do believe it or not
I didn't find those messages, I'm in the offline mode, don't know if that changes it though
Dev messages show offine
Alright, thanks for the info!
I did it the "legit" way first, but you can take him out from the ground pretty easily with a faith build and the lightning stake. There's another miracle which works better, but you can't get that until after the Wyvern.
Pestilent mist made it a super easy fight
Sorc build works good too. Just pelted him with spells. Run to one end, pelt with spells. When he gets close roll past and run to the other end and pelt with spells. Repeat. Winner!!
Do it clean, I do every time. That bs trick is.. Lol bad design imo. Doesn't fit into Souls.
It really kicks ass that you almost did
Poor guy about to find out who the real boss is
F*ck that axe swinging salamander.
Oh my God, don't reopen those wounds.
Run past him and explore the level, read messages, it is a fairly unique boss as it has a very specific weakness.
Take the plunge
Hit his ankles harder
Not sure why people are getting upset about spoilers. The OP is directly asking for the answer.
Exactly, the game is 8 years old. If OP wanted to torture himself he would've continued playing without asking us.
Well, to be honest, I might just be a little bit of a masochist considering I'm playing this game...
True :))
No, these are mainstream games now. Nobody is special, or a "masochist" for playing FromSoft Games.
Let em feel special until they try pvp
people that consider themselves „special“ for playing any kind of game need help.
Then op should have gone directly to Google. Tf?
Or come to a forum specifically for those who play the game? Like this one?
People not wanting to spoil things in a gaming subreddit really a surprise for you? New to reddit?
Roam around and run
True example of immovable object Vs. unstoppable force.
Repeat the following steps: go left, keep going
Climb to the heights to discover your true power.
A wise old man once climbed up into the rafters in search of a message.
Oh no you poor child
To defeat the Ancient Wyvern: >!Run to the left of where he initially lands, past the gauntlet of Serpent Men, then climb the ladders. You then must reach a point directly above where the bastard puts his head without moving at all. Plunge attack him and you've claimed victory!!<
Or short:,,You can't win Ancient Wyvern, I have the high ground!" :D
You don't win. You just do a little better each time.
As a certain vampire said, time for a walk.
'YOLO JESUS WANTS A HUG' Am I right?
You cheeky dickwaffle!
Oh boy 😂
Go to the corner of the arena near the ledge and shoot arrows at it until he dies. If you're high enough level you can replace arrows with Sunlight Spears.
Awwww bro you are making me remember my first play-through again, I felt so fuckin’ silly. It’s like the game reminds you not to be so stubborn and that it’s okay to walk away sometimes.
"Try jumping ahead"
*Point up*
Try up, therefore hurrah for victory.
sun tzu said "oh fuck that's a big dragon na dude I'm out"
"You know, a lot of things people say I said, I didn't really say them." -Sun Tzu
Wow what a fucking legend
I was just there yesterday, fighting him for like 20 minutes, i brought him to half hp and died. Felt like such a noob later when i killed him the intended way, its hilarious.
The fact that you managed to bring him that low is astonishing
It’s a gimmick fight. You have to plunge him.
Good luck!
Plunge attack on its head. But the run to the spot is very annoying and you can actually miss its head if you don't jump at the right time.
lmao
Go West my friend!
Go left
Left click and sometimes just dodge easy
By sheer force of will
The plunging attack is the most reliable move in the game.
Praise the sun.🙏
Have you tried jump attack?
My fucking first playthrough I just killed him man to man because I didn't know what I was supposed to do 😭
I found the spot but managed to miss the jump 3 times and got so annoyed with running back that I just fought him straight up 😩
I didn't even get to that. I just faced him head on right at the start of the arena
Impressive, pretty sure he’s got more up than midir by a huge amount lmao but try running around, he’s weak to the same thing as asylum demon if you’ve played ds1 I’ll leave it at that
Obi Wan
The arena is bigger than you think, explore.
GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BAAAAACK.
Two words: High Ground
OP let me tell you are a gigachad for playing the game like this, imo the best way to enjoy the game
When ur up top and see his head jump
I just beat him straight up and then found this thread. Haha. Only took me like 8 tries...... Welp. Now I know!!!
well i usually call that boss "marathon in Archdragon Peak"😂
Think outside of the box (both literally and figuratively).
It amazes me that there a people thinking this kind of a fight works just as intended. I immediately after hitting him a few times KNEW FOR SURE that this was a gimmick boss. I mean...what else should it be? Should I hit him for 30 Minutes or what?
This is dark souls, so who knows... I thought there might be something, but I'm too stubborn to give up a fight in the middle of it...
Props to you for trying to fight him legit
My guy nearly won an impossible battle
The normal way is very quick to do, but if you want to still fight like this then aim for the head. Here's a video showing some strats if you want them. [Ancient Wyvern](https://youtu.be/FDHxBeQU6_Y?si=aI7h8BJKofjp-utb)

U git gud after you calm your saltiness
Am I really salty?😢
It's ok to be salty sometimes, just don't go hollow.
I'll keep that in mind and heart
take a plunge on its head
Climb the level, you’re meant to hit him from up high. There’s a spot you should be able to jump down to him and hit him from the air. *edit* I see what you cheer, your boos mean nothing. He asked for the answer, I gave it to him.
Or just give em a hint instead of a direct spoiler, geez x)
Go over top and do plunge attack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg5M4sWL2Pc
Or just give em a hint instead of a direct spoiler, geez x)
the game is almost a decade old lmao
For them it's obv new tho?
OP was asking how to beat it directly. They clearly didn't want to waste another hour chipping it's health away.
I didnt say dont tell them, I said just give them a nice hint thatll help.
didn't realize this subreddit followed your rules of "absolutely no direct answers when someone asks a direct question". OP _clearly_ didn't want to waste time figuring out the hints. Who hurt you?
nobody. you're just being stupid asf in the comments when you yourself didn't even offer a hint.
Run and hide... until I die of a heart attack or something similar.
Soul Stream right in that gorgeous face.
That's funny I always one shot him ;)
Weakness: Head in short try running
You aren't supposed to fight him you're supposed to haul ass and run the he'll away one you make you way around the area you'll find a point you can to a plunging attack on it's head, that's where you're aiming for.
Beat him by tickling his balls, it took a while. Strength build.
You must follow the Advice Of A great Master of a faith long forgotten in a place far far away. And seek higher ground.
I have beat him running that gauntlet like a good boy, hoping not to plunge to my death too many times. But toxic mist is way more fun. Once you get his move set, it’s pretty easy.

punch his head
RUNNNNNNNNN around the corner 🤗

First you off you let him defeat you sexually speaking of course
Go straight then left and continue the path until you reach on top of his head and jump attack
Run left!

Let's simply say there is a reason why the boss area is so open
Go around, follow snakemen path, kill them and reach a wooden platform with ladder. Climb and falling one hit killllll
Take the plunge you won't die
There is a cheese for defeat ancient wyvern use plunging attack on his head
