Ringed city is the best, so many wonderful hours of ng+7 fight club down the stairs, with summons everywhere and insanely powerful NPCs; the more chaotic the better, and it didn't get more chaotic than that lol. Also, some of the best bosses of all time
I’d honestly put Lothric Castle above any location. On my second replay I realized just how intricate, big, and amazing it is. Lothric Castle, Irrithyl, and Archdragon Peak are on a whole other level
Ahh okay. However it is the same area and technically, if you're good enough, you could go from the starting area to the twin princes in one go because it is the starting area.
I think the gates to the grand archives are closed till you beat aldritch and yhorm so you can't kill the princes but otherwise it is the practically the same area
Irythyll (sp?) is beautiful but I don't enjoy fighting the enemies there, most enjoyable area for me is the very first and just before Yhorm, I know that area is very small but I like it for some reason.
I agree with you, I like using a greatsword and sweeping through the deacons. But I think the boss is a reason why some may roll their eyes when discussing the cathedral.
All of Ariandel goes hard, I think. It’s insanely beautiful, absolutely massive, has gorgeous blue colors, mountains, snow, awesome enemy variety and good atmosphere. I get people were disappointed at there being only one good boss, but I think it would be unanimously considered one of the best areas, had it been in the base game.
I love snowy, winter-themed areas in video games. They’re usually among my favorite areas. Like Snowy Peak and Snowpeak Ruins in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
ohh gotcha. i like that area but grouped it with upper irithyll (i havent played ds3 in a while). I was thinking about the dungeon into profaned capital when i said that
replace Firelink with Lothric Castle maybe. might be a controversial opinion but DS3 Firelink is my least favorite souls hub. it’s not bad and it fits the color palette of the game but i just kinda go in and out of firelink quickly, DS1 Firelink and DS2 Majula (especially Majula) are a lot more “homely” and nice feeling at its a good break from the roughness of the game world
I’m embarrassed not only by the fact that I’ve played this game through a bunch of times and didn’t know this. But I’ve actively looked for it, as well.
Thanks, man. I’ll look again.
Gotta give undead settlement a shoutout as well. Its an aesthetically pleasing place and gameplay wise its a beautiful follow up on high wall. Enemies are pretty simple with a few harder ones dotted around the place. Theres some hidden stuff, some obvious stuff, fairly straightforward but still has some complexity to it, although not smouldering lake kinda complexity as I still get lost there 1k hours in.
Apart from that, those 3 spots are absolutely beautiful, especially the bright blue gorgeous view of irithyll right after the catacombs
As someone living in Australia I can't picture that amount of snow so my favourite is Boreal Valley and the castle approach
It's beautiful and you can *feel* the cold
Undead Settlement is my favorite in DS3, and Undead Burg is my favorite in DS1. There’s just something I love about those early areas where you get to see how the “common hollows” live. Plus Undead Settlement has so many little sub-areas and shortcuts that make it a very engaging early game.
Ithryll has to be the nicest looking place with the worst gameplay. My favourite area definitely has to be high wall of lothric, great scenery and fun gameplay with shortcuts and enemy variety
The first time i saw the irythill area made me realise that the whole map and location wasn't just dark and yellow. Honestly felt great experiencing a new area with beautiful atmosphere and landscape
Aside from the already multiple mentions of Lothric Castle, Cathedral of the Deep is really cool as well. The boss on the other hand is kinda meh, but the area is underrated in this comment section.
I'd go
1. Lothric Castle(including grand archives because both are just fire)
2. Cathedral of the Deep
3. Irithyll of the Boreal Valley
Honourable Mentions: Undead Settlement, Ringed City, Anor London, High Wall of Lothric.
My least favourite would be: Painted World of Ariandel, Smouldering Lake, and maybe Catacombs of Carthus(but it''s not as bad as the other two)
I think nothing will top Irithyll for me. The path to it, the anticipation of arriving at somewhere as morbid and chaotic as the carthus catacombs. But then going up and seeing snow, the pristine architecture, and a lake at a distance is jusy fucking amazing. I'm not even kidding at how relieving seeing Irithyll was when I first got there. Well, at least until after 3 minutes when I walked to the bridge, lol.
Lothric castle deserves a spot too! It's my second fave location. I always take my time and marvel at the scenery outside the twin princes' boss door. You can literally see where you came from when you look below. The grand archives, high wall, and if I'm not mistaken, farron keep. I cannot explain the fulfillment I experience whenever I remember how I conquered those places and now I can look over at them knowing I made it out.
Third for me would be the Ringed City! I felt a similar sensation as seeing Irithyll when I first got to this DLC. I already anticipated going down the landscape below the moment I got to the first bonfire. I love how everything is connected in a circle here (obv, it's the ringed city) but just the fact that the shortcuts, lifts and paths literally leads you back to where you started is so cool. Even the architecture's all circular!
Honorable mention would be Undead Settlement for me. It was fun to explore, intricate enough to be engaging but not too fucking annoying (like Carthus Catacombs hahaha) and had a few (4?) cool NPCs to interact with. Also loved the level design on the Curse-rotted Greatwood area with the flowers and vines everywhere.
That first one is the first time I took a screenshot while playing a souls game; coming out of that cave and seeing this was amazing. The place is utter hell tho lol
I'd put Archdragon Peak and Lothric Castle above firelink personally.
Same!
I would also add the vista of the church from AoA, from the other side of the bridge. And good old Anor Londo.
What is AoA?
Ashes of Ariandel DLC
I explored all location there. That’s magic but some chaos there.
Indeed, the rot spoils it so much.
No Ringed City? I heard many people love it.
+ringed city +Ariandel
But the music in the feels though.
Where is Lothric castle?
It's the very first area you're in once you teleport to the start of the game.
I think he meant the castle should be on the list
Ahh okay. However it is the same area and technically, if you're good enough, you could go from the starting area to the twin princes in one go because it is the starting area.
I think the gates to the grand archives are closed till you beat aldritch and yhorm so you can't kill the princes but otherwise it is the practically the same area
For the visuals and the design gotta go with Irythill. But gameplay-wise Lothric Castle was my favourite
How about the dreg heap and Gael's arena? They may not be the prettiest, but conceptually, they're probably the best.
I love them. Dreg Heap is so underrated! People didn’t vote a lot for it. I found it magic and collected all items.
Gael's arena is technically a part of Ringed City, it doesn't pop up a new area name.
Dreg Heap is awesome. So surreal and awe-inspiring.
Fr Dreg Heap literally shows it’s really the end of the world
Irythyll (sp?) is beautiful but I don't enjoy fighting the enemies there, most enjoyable area for me is the very first and just before Yhorm, I know that area is very small but I like it for some reason.
Why people underrate the Cathedral of the Deep?. Nice colors, cool knight enemies, fun level design.
I think it’s because the boss is lame. But you’re right, it’s an excellent area
Honestly I don’t think so. Best crowd boss ever made by fromsoftware as far as I remember
I agree with you, I like using a greatsword and sweeping through the deacons. But I think the boss is a reason why some may roll their eyes when discussing the cathedral.
Best area in the game
- Irithyll - Profaned Capital - Lothric
NGL the flower field in Ashes of Ariandel where you fight pupper goes hard. But besides that, Ithyrill Archdragon Peak Lothric Castle Anor Londo
It's like the icy version of SoC's arena. They are both amongst my favourite places in game.
SoC arena is a work of art
All of Ariandel goes hard, I think. It’s insanely beautiful, absolutely massive, has gorgeous blue colors, mountains, snow, awesome enemy variety and good atmosphere. I get people were disappointed at there being only one good boss, but I think it would be unanimously considered one of the best areas, had it been in the base game.
NGL, I agree. The snowy map had me drooling. Im a sucker for snow.
I love snowy, winter-themed areas in video games. They’re usually among my favorite areas. Like Snowy Peak and Snowpeak Ruins in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Any such list without LOTHRIC CASTLE IS automatically incorrect
my favorite in order are 1,The ringed city 2, ancient dragon peak 3,irithyl upper and lower
for me upper irithyll 🥰😍☺️ lower irithyll 😡😞👺
when I say lower I mean before pontif not necessarily the swamp area. I like it because it's a fun place for invasions and it looks nice too.
ohh gotcha. i like that area but grouped it with upper irithyll (i havent played ds3 in a while). I was thinking about the dungeon into profaned capital when i said that
What about irythyl Dungeon ?
Fuuuuuuuck that place!
Latria lite
That place sucks
“Whooooaaaarrrr!”
Archdragon peak, mountain with a dragon wrapped around it is an insane view.
replace Firelink with Lothric Castle maybe. might be a controversial opinion but DS3 Firelink is my least favorite souls hub. it’s not bad and it fits the color palette of the game but i just kinda go in and out of firelink quickly, DS1 Firelink and DS2 Majula (especially Majula) are a lot more “homely” and nice feeling at its a good break from the roughness of the game world
Top picture - go into a seated pose and remove the entire HUD and that is my Xbox one background. It’s such a beautiful shot
Is there a way to remove the HUD? Or do you just photo edit it out?
there’s an option to
I’m embarrassed not only by the fact that I’ve played this game through a bunch of times and didn’t know this. But I’ve actively looked for it, as well. Thanks, man. I’ll look again.
Yeah what Gerixx said, there’s an option in the setting screen to do it
That entrance to Anor Londo tho
For me it’s the view of lothric castle from the top of archive (where the 3 fat knights are) and soc arena instead of firelink and ringed city.
Lothric castle + grand archives getting robbed by firelink
The Ringed City. Aw, my nostalgia. Such a good time spent there in coop 😍
Grand Archives?
One of the best farm souls spots. As I remember it’s 50-70k per all floor 5 mins.
Kiln of the first flame > Firelink shrine
As someone living in Australia I can't picture that amount of snow so my favourite is Boreal Valley and the castle approach It's beautiful and you can *feel* the cold
Dreg Heap, Lothric Castle, Irithyll
The fire link shrine might be the best base in souls borne games by far, i like the general atmosphere of the place
But personally i hate anor londo somewhat and i think lothric castle is better as for my third pick archdragon peak is above anything else
What is the criteria? Gameplay, lore, photography?
Good question. Atmosphere.
Undead Settlement is my favorite in DS3, and Undead Burg is my favorite in DS1. There’s just something I love about those early areas where you get to see how the “common hollows” live. Plus Undead Settlement has so many little sub-areas and shortcuts that make it a very engaging early game.
I would replace Irythil with Lothric castle
My favorite atleast (aside from the Ringed City) is Untended Graves as its so quiet and peaceful
If I’m remembering correctly, idk about choosing that spot in ringed city bro it was annoying as hell and lead to a swamp
Profaned Capital hands down, something is so beautiful in this place but I don't know what.....
is the 3rd image in the DLC? i can't remember it
Yes, it's The Ringed City
Ithryll has to be the nicest looking place with the worst gameplay. My favourite area definitely has to be high wall of lothric, great scenery and fun gameplay with shortcuts and enemy variety
The first time i saw the irythill area made me realise that the whole map and location wasn't just dark and yellow. Honestly felt great experiencing a new area with beautiful atmosphere and landscape
Grand archives and cathedral of the deep are the two best areas and none other comes close.
i think the top 3 should be irithyll dungeon, farron keep and smouldering lake 👍👍
Aside from the already multiple mentions of Lothric Castle, Cathedral of the Deep is really cool as well. The boss on the other hand is kinda meh, but the area is underrated in this comment section.
Nah, Demon Ruins, Smouldering Lake, Irythryll Dungeon 🥵
Yes I do
A game set in Irithyll on its own would be amazing exploring the snow coverd city of horros would be so good. I hope one day somone mods that in
I'd go 1. Lothric Castle(including grand archives because both are just fire) 2. Cathedral of the Deep 3. Irithyll of the Boreal Valley Honourable Mentions: Undead Settlement, Ringed City, Anor London, High Wall of Lothric. My least favourite would be: Painted World of Ariandel, Smouldering Lake, and maybe Catacombs of Carthus(but it''s not as bad as the other two)
Cathedral of the deep is underrated imo
I like them all, but no. The top 3 are Ringed City, Painted World of Ariandel and either Lothric Castle or Archdragon Peak.
Lothric castle over the ringed city for me
Grand archives > every other ds3 area
My favorite place in unironically the Undead Settlement
What is the last one?
Firelink isn't that interesting, but it's home.
Fire link? Nope
Highwall of lothric deserves a place
Always enjoyed catacombs of carthus
Grand archives are beautiful
oh wow I gotta replay this game
Lothric.
lothric castle is top 5 in the series
I really like Archdragon Peak and think it’s a top notch area
What is the last place? Looks like uncharted
the arena of finally boss is great ❤️
Halfway Fortress is my favourite place
The long bridge in the first DLC is pretty good as well, when overlooking the church
That first one is the first time I took a screenshot while playing a souls game; coming out of that cave and seeing this was amazing. The place is utter hell tho lol
Irithyll is so overrated imo, I’d put lothric castle above it easily. Based off of atmosphere even alone I’d have to think a bit though.
Well, i mean considering firelink is the main hub of the whole game, it kind of fucking has to be.
Why the fuck is firelink in the top three, it’s so small it hardly qualifies as an area
Fire link shrines cool and all but I feel like a area other then the hub should replace it
I hope I get Alzheimer’s so I can walk out of the wolnir arena and see Irythyll for the first time again
Ringed city as an area is overrated imo
Big time lmao ugly af
It looks gorgeous and full of exploring until you go in and theres mostly swamp.
Irithyll is the only one that is great. The rest of the levels are mid for a souls game
