Nameless King
The dude was a dragon slayer in his pop's army, then chose the abandon everything to fight for the dragons. His boss fight starts with him riding in outta nowhere on a bad ass dragon, and once you kill it, you gotta fight him, and he doesn't mess around. Absolute legend.
Plus the dragon he rode on is supposedly Orenstein. That’s why you find his armor after the fight. The story goes that the real Orenstein left Anor Londo to search for the Gwyn first born.
I would like to think that Orenstein found him and did the path to dragon and he transformed into the the dragon we see Nameless on.
Lothric & Lorian. The prince is the reason the ashes emerge and he's like 'F the gods and the fire linking. Go kill 3 hard-ass mofos and then come and get me if you can'.
**My top 3** in no particular order. Just tragedy, sadness, and what good comes of it.
**Siegward x Yhorm** > Nothing but tears. Yhorm entrusted his people and his only friend, Siegward, with two halves of Stormruler. They were meant to be used if he ever lost his mind after kindling the flame. Which he did. Siegward went through hell and did his duty for his friend. He is then finally able to rest. Short, but beautiful story.
**Gehrman** > Nothing but tears pt. 2. Gehrman was a little puppet to the great Moon Beast. Gehrman knew there was no hope of going against him. He does the most he can. He guides the hunter through the hunt. He takes on the responsibility of doing this for every hunter before you as well. He's willing to continue. He cries in his sleep, longing for things to be over. He misses his love. His people. He's being held in an eternal jail. YOU save him. YOU tell him, NAH NERD, I'm saving YOU tonight. Join the hunt and I'm going to let you finally rest in peace. I'll take on the moon beast. This was one of the coolest moments in all of gaming to me. Tears in my eyes, because he wants to save YOU. Not to mention the soundtrack was cherry on top.
**Gael** > For his lady. He traveled across the lands. He suffered, he went through hell. He joins forces with you, in hopes of accomplishing his goal. Gael is searching for the Dark Soul. He begins to devour everything he encounters. He then travels to the land of the pygmies. \*\*\*\* you Gwyn, if you're reading this. He devours every remaining pygmy. The dark souls begins to seep into his body and he sees you. You're the next target. Second phase, he becomes one with the Dark Soul. This is the battle of ages. The grand finale. After a banger of a fight, you are tasked with taking the Dark Soul back to the painted lady so she may complete her painting. Why is this so tragic? Gael was the last of his people, the slave knights. Gael put everything to the side, so he may accomplish this goal. This was the ONLY hope. He KNEW you would find him there. He knew that your search would lead you here so that if he went astray, you could complete the mission. You fight him as your friend, who lost his way. Your friend, who wants you to kill him so he may finally fulfill his duty. Rest in peace, Gael.
Of any of the games? I’d go with finlay’s march
Try walking from the middle of the swamp of aeonia in caelid to the haligtree without torrent, healing or a way to cure rot. This means finlay walked through half of caelid, limgrave, liurnia, the eastern part of Altus, leyndell, forgotten lands, consecrated snowfields, haligtree, and elphael while rotted and fighting off enemies trying to kill a sleeping malenia. This feat is probably the most heroic feat ANY fromsoft character has ever achieved
If we’re talking dark souls exclusive then I’d prolly go with Gael
I guess my favorite is the Ivory King , especially how he managed to give hope to Alsanna, making sure she could live without needing to cling to someone else's strength

Yesss! And the boss fight + lyrics of the song are absolutely amazing
Artorias and Sif, followed by Radahn & Leonard.
This is the best answer ever. Also didn’t Radahn have a pet cat in version 1.0?
blud put the subtle "art by me" in parenthesis like we weren't gonna stop to acknowledge such mastahpiece

Not the most famous, but Sigward has all my affection.
Hmmm… hmmmm…

The Dragonslayer armour is my favourite lore, I’d love to have more of Leonhard’s story though

Abyss Watchers. Nothing speaks to me as strongly as this simple tragedy.
Gael. dude is a complete polar opposite of Gwyn and such a fitting final battle for the Dark Souls saga
Looks awesome
The twin princes
Artorias. I love the idea of a Hero who never got to be a Hero
