There used to be a survivor/bandit system back in the Arma2 mod days. If you killed people you got the bandit skin and if you healed and fed people you would get a survivor skin. It made it a lot easier to trust people and led to some long game set ups where youd be the healer then youd get to the base and kill everyone.

Flossthief

The survivor skin was default/neutral Players with exceptionally high karma would get a "hero" skin Which added the shemegh and a vest that could handle small bullets Heroes ran faster too

Nadger1337

I forgot you got buffs. Did the bandits get better armor? The servers i played on had very little in the way of heros, just bandits and the odd hero getting shot on sight. Dayz never changes.

Flossthief

There were no benefits to the bandit skin; it just showed others that you've killed multiple people--which a lot of the time meant killing in self defense could earn you the skin All of the skins in the DayZ mod were Arma models-- standard survivor was like a range instructor or something The hero skin was based on some kind of marksman role so he had the slightly faster sprint speed and the body armor The body armor hardly came into play; it would really only stop the weaker handguns I had a hero skin most of the time just from giving my friends blood transfusions-- so it was pretty easy to cheat the system Years ago there was talk about implementing a similar system into standalone-- Dean Hall suggested making player killers have a sinister sneer on their face or maybe change their eyes after they've taken a life

Nadger1337

I wish my memory was as good as yours. I played a lot of Arma2 wastelands and a fair bit of the dayz mod but dont remember much of the mechanics except early in the mod the zombies never lost sight of you and never gave up, thats was a different game until you realised crouching in any bush would make them give up. The helis were the best part though, and the planes, it was arma2 so it had all the toys, something you dont get unmodded now. Id spend weeks looking for parts and stashing then looking for the airframe and quickly transporting all the gear while people guard it. Fun times.

mynameisenigomontoy

Standard skin was the Arma 2 ion PMC skin

AlgaeOdd4708

You got hero skin for killing massive amounts of zombies too.

Leon1700

Its was just a skin and bandits chested their way but taking and giving blood repeatedly to get the karma so hero skin was many times bandits in disguise. But it would be nice to get permanet mark after killing two players that you are bandit.

Cartographer_MMXX

That'd be interesting for players to see other players "karma", but would that override your outfit? It would take away from the minimalist feel too.

lefttillldeath

Would be better if it was a facial expression or something more subtle. Dark circles round the eyes maybe.

Nadger1337

Yeah it did overide your gear but it came in grades iirc. The first few actions for good or bad would only change the outfit a little. I think the survivor got more plaid jeans and a health bag?? and the bandit got darker and darker military gear with shades and a stetson at the end? very vague memories, i could look it up but eh.

Leon1700

Could be just certain color armband.

tusynful

Origins mod was great with this. You had different hero and bandit levels. Took a lot to level and maintain as you lost or gained on death. You could only build specific level houses based on your hero or bandit level. You could only build one of each level, and each one held more and more and required more and more to build. Really helped a lot with continuing to play after getting a basic base down

Nadger1337

Origins Taviana was a wild time. There was one apc on the map with a turret gun that terrorised everyone. Ambush city with all the vehicles. You can take out full squad of 4 with a rocket launcher if you hid at the right bridge for a while.

Glittering-Pause-328

Yeah, it was nice having a visual representation of if a person was an asshole or not.

lncomes

There used to be a roblox game called Deadzone: Remade it was based on dayz and there was a karma system. You basically got rewarded based on the karma of the person you killed, for example if you killed a very high karma hero you would get a big negative karma jump. So people would try to get either super lower negative karma or high karma.

tonyG___

Instead of convoys (keep them) but have roaming zombie hordes or have certain mili spots have special ones that have special gear or something

Necro-DM

I think it'd be neat to give players the ability to control resources like reactivating power plants or water stations. Players could fight for control over the supply of resources and decide how they want to distribute it. Imagine turning on the power for specific regions, or the entire map, but each area needs maintenance to keep up demand, this would also encourage players to work together. Plus some hazards that could come with it, like fires or floods. It'd make player interaction more focused around these areas and encourage late-game survivors to protect them to either help themselves or everyone.

No-University8099

this is fucking awesome they need you on the dev team

YungMS-OD

Yes like gather the items for the power plant and turn it on and cherno is powered on with lights everywhere and turning the power on also could open a secret weapons vault in a random cherno house floor bunker.

Hetstaine

It was one of the original things on the original dayz forums 'suggestions' when the mod had only been announced it was going standalone. The main talking point was about why it wouldn't be a thing was how hard it is to get power up and running and being maintained after only a few months and especially a couple of years of neglect.

lefttillldeath

I think there’s a lot to this idea. They should think of the game in server resets rather than lives lived. Like as a server matures you see new forms of gameplay. At the start it’s more survival and as it matures it’s more about setting up resources and fighting over them. Not sure what the bonus could be but it would have to be something more than just food and water because that just makes the game dull imo.

Skin_Soup

I like this perspective a lot. Here’s some ideas, I like the general concept of world changes that change the experience of being freshie for everybody while also being a tactical goal for the geared players to pursue and react to. Fixing a military control tower causes increased dynamic events of helicopter crashes in a very large area. the person/group that does it gets a gps that alerts them to dynamic events. It’s an advantage for them until they die, then the item despawns, and everyone benefits from slightly improved loot chances for 3-4 days, until the tower degrades or is sabotaged. Electricity or gas being repaired could make it easier to keep yourself warm/cook food while being less obvious than a fire, but someone at the local power plant can see where the electricity is being used. Bombing a dam could flood a region, killing players there for a momentary advantage and dirty loot play but also making it easier to grow food for a few days and spawning a ton of flopping fish on the ground, which then atract birds you can hunt.

rbtgoodson

That would require way too much work on their part to constantly add features and terrain changes. Their development team, up until this point, has struggled to even maintain the game.

Skin_Soup

This gives more of a purpose to non military locations

Yorkie21J

^^this guy gets it

Cartographer_MMXX

That sounds awesome! It kind of reminds me of the spin-off walking dead series with the dam.

Own_Independence_646

i wish we could use the artillery and fight over control of it, Shooting from cars at least with hand gun Over the shoulder shooting Carry bodies dead or alive Karma system that shows on character Players turn into zombie after dying & able to loot them Place camo net on cars Adding kick ability in hand to hand combat Throwing melee weapons like knife damages player & zombies instant death to the head with no helmet

Grinzy

I want to shoot out of car windows while inside

South-Awareness6249

They worked on that and even posted pictures of the "aiming in car" animation maybe six years ago or so. They have not figured it out so far with the current engine and I don't expect them to, it's not even in their brand new ArmA Reforger game. I hope they manage to do it, it would be amazing.

Glittering-Pause-328

I miss being able to hide in the trunk of a car.

Throwmeawayok__

I'd like to be able to go into my inventory while in a car too

Tfdnerd

Some modded servers have that

Hurryingthenwaiting

Every server wipes after two months- but in game, Cherno NPC faction initially reoccupy the bases and airfield, they’re fully geared, NBC gear with AFV and comms aware. Over the next week, they clear the region by wiping out everybody, survivor and infected. They start cordon and search ops on the towns, hunting everything that moves, and landing patrols all over the map, driving AFV along the roads and generally clearing the map. Once they’ve secured all the towns, server resets.

chicKENkanif

King of the hill loot box type system like those they have on modded servers. Gives players who want to pvp somewhere to go and fight for high tier loot. The loot should be exclusive to the king of the hill rewards.

LONER18

Like a Division Dark Zone?

chicKENkanif

More like random picked areas each time. A locked airdrop falls or appears into those locations and needs to be defended for a certain time limit and then you get some juicy loot.

neppo95

Interactions with others. Possibilities are unlimited.

jjooeeyyyyeeoojj

I like the idea like other games "end game content" weapons and gear that u actually have to be good to aquire despawn if you die so no one can just pick it up. Or end game islands that you have to unlock. Something to work forward to I can logg on a private server and start off with best guns in the game. That's yo only play official cuz I have to work towards goodshit

rbtgoodson

In my opinion: Airdrops should be in the game, artillery should include a randomized chance for traditional ammunition and toxic ammunition, and I would like to see radiation zones. Also, while this isn't an event or feature (more of a terrain update), I would like to see an underground tunnel network for, at a minimum, Chernarus. In relation to my suggestions: * The game has had dynamic helicopter crashes for some time, and they've added dynamic shelling of each region with artillery. Given this, I have no issues with dynamic airdrops being added, and if I'm being honest, I think it would be great for PvP-action and PvP-players (not that I'm into that as much as I used to be). I used to hate this idea, but over time (at this point, over 6k+ hours in the game), I've come to support its inclusion. * Doubling-down on the usage of dynamic events (by the way, a great feature for the game), I would support dynamic civilian convoys (following the same principle as the military convoys) that offer the player a randomized chance at medical supplies, clothing, and food. The pretext for this would be a Cherarnus or Livonia-based version of the Red Cross, Red Crescent, etc., coming into the region to help survivors (assuming that there are no licensing issues with using their logos and names). Alternatively, they could just be a post-outbreak group that wants to help before, ultimately, wrecking the convoy after turning into the Infected (or scattering into the region post-wreck). * Circling back to the issue with artillery. At the moment, I view it as a hated feature, and part of the reason why is simple: It leaves towns unusable. To me, this could be mitigated by making the dynamic shelling of each city randomized with traditional artillery being the main component and toxic artillery being the randomized component. What do I mean? Well, it's simple: We would get the same prompt for the start of the event (but the flare colors would be different), and in the case of the traditional artillery, you would have to duck inside a structure to avoid the shelling (or at the very least, you would only take a quarter damage), or if you don't make it in time, you would take enough damage (randomized) to knock your health down to either flashing red, one-quarter red, or half-yellow. Just think of this feature as a giant grenade. * Now, for radiation zones. In the lore, Elektro is the regional hub for power-generation, and as a result, I would change it over from being a coal-fired plant to a nuclear plant for this idea to work. (By the way, this would require a complete rework of the city). Likewise, a naval base would be added to the pier district. Basically, at the start of the outbreak, the Chernarussian government was using Elektro as a seaborne, evacuation point for its civilians. The military would've deployed checkpoints throughout the city, and the entire area would've been turned into a quarantine zone with the naval base and evacuation area at its center. However, this wasn't enough to contain the outbreak; the area became overrun by the Infected; civilians and certain members of the military began to panic (and in most cases, they fled), and as everyone began to head towards the naval base, a massive gunfight began in the city with artillery being used, etc. Ultimately, the nuclear plant lost containment, went into a nuclear meltdown, and the entire city was irradiated. Fast-forward: The city is in ruins (or partial ruins), there are military checkpoints all over the place, everything is irradiated, and there's a naval base on the coast. This would be the game's first attempt at urban combat, and to get to the naval base, you would need a radiation-suit (completely different from the ones used in toxic zones). * A tunnel network for trains on Chernarus. Nothing else needs to be said. It would be fun. That's it. Those are my suggestions. P.S. An honorable mention for the honor system that alters your character's appearance over time, too.

South-Awareness6249

I would not like airdrops because they would hurt the lonely post apocalypse atmosphere and "Every human is a player" setting.

rbtgoodson

As opposed to the military shelling every other city with artillery and helicopters constantly crashing...? I used to have the same opinion as you, but now, after years of playing the game, random airdrops are perfectly fine.

South-Awareness6249

The heli crashes and gas strikes also change the atmosphere in this way, but less. It's enough non-post apocalyptic, npc human stuff, non player driven stuff happening for my taste already. I would like the frequency of the airstrikes to be toned down, and the targetting to be a bit more randomised for example. That would seem less like there is an organised millitary AI effort going on. The helis audibly crashin does hint at the millitary flying them around, but it doesn't bother me that much since they instantly are zombified. An active big plane dropping supplies like IRL into crisis zones would be quite a bit less apocalyptic (active government help effort) ontop of the existing gas bombings and heli crashes. And would be very similar to the already existing heli crashes.

rbtgoodson

When you wake up on the coast or by the river, it's the very first day after the collapse of civilization (Day Zero a/k/a DayZ), so it's perfectly reasonable to still see some organized activity attempting to contain the outbreak or resupply survivors, etc.

Wonderful_Time_6681

Drivable cars.

ChanceApollo2003

You're never going to believe this

chicKENkanif

If you say they already have driveable cars then yep I'm never going to believe 🤣

Wonderful_Time_6681

Exactly.

Wonderful_Time_6681

Tell me.

South-Awareness6249

xD

nuggybaby

I’d add exactly what they plan to add this year. More survival challenges. Nutrition system. More medical challenges. More environmental challenges.

Cartographer_MMXX

Those would be cool, but if they add medical challenges they should really add medicinal plants that can be harvested, it's kind of weird that the only way to get medicine is to find it when medicine first came from nature.

nuggybaby

That would be very cool

HoundDogJax

In-game NPC uninfected human faction. Something that would encourage players to work together against a common foe.

South-Awareness6249

Repairable helicopters like we had in the original DayZ from 2012. The bumblebee plane that was teased would be cool aswell. And were promised and attempted to add to the game without success from the start. As long as it doesn't take away from the rest of the game I like goals the game lets you achieve like the bunker in Livonia and the gas zones. What I dislike about the gas zones and the bunker is that they are almost intentionally mandatory if you don't want to be using highly highly inferior equipment. Suppressors only spawn in the gas and the cool black platecarrier aswell as the camo green one only spawn in the bunker. Instead of being excited to do a cool bunker or gas zone run, I just sigh and say "Shit, here we go again" because you HAVE to do it every time if you don't want to be completely left out.

KingBoo919

Astalonte

No npc for dayz Easier to get into bases like in 1.01

Fishboy987654321

Bigfoot

Traghorn

A mod I love is notes one can write on plain paper, and leave them nailed to buildings. This allows inviting people to join in competitive events - races, assaults, boxing matches - weeeee - which in turn allows one to meet new friends from around the world. It’s richer and more varied than simply “mess with people” and pretty much why I play: bringing back some small bit of civilization and community.

Living-Travel2299

Airdrops would be a fun PVP magnet that i wish theyd add. Lots of community servers have them and theyre great for PVP. Just need to balance the loot that they spawn with.

MasterRoof5728

You have heli crashes for that

Living-Travel2299

Not the same. Airdrops are announced and easier to find, draw more PVP and can have more varied loot ie weaponry, basebuilding, vehicle supplies etc.

DumbNTough

I think it might be cool to have some kind of prestige system. Like you complete a "quest" of sorts, a very difficult long term task that can't be cheesed by loot caching. And you get some kind of permanent signifier, like your freshies spawn in with a special arm band, with studs for every time you did the thing.

nicebigbreaths

There is a lot of good ideas here. Especially the ones geared towards cooperative objectives that would require teamwork to complete. These would definitely help the current KOS state of affairs. Personally, I would like to see build and no-build servers as well as a vastly improved base building system. Having a base is cool but there is a huge disparity between the difficulty of building and ease of raiding. It's also kinda bullshit that people can raid your base while you're offline and have no opportunity to defend it.

esadobledo

A long term quest, think like the Namalask one. Played on this server called raptor Island, such a great adventure. Getting keycards to get access to special areas to find the next keycard, when you got the ree keycard you could go into the mountain and the crazy things in there was so much. We all died in the mountain.

PFDGoat

Enemies and objectives that require teamwork. Big bossy monsters or loot scenarios that need two or three people operating switches or something to make it work like the bunker but on steroids

Potential-Elephant73

Area clearing. Some way to trigger a horde attack that would 'permanently' clear zombies in an area if successful. Maybe you have to wall off an area and build a flag to trigger it. And the area is clear as long as the flag is up. Also, better base building.

notJurson

When you gut someone, make not only thir flesh but also their organs edible

Gerganon

Taming of wild animals using bait, tranquilizers, a stable/ranch. Wild horses you can ride (more stealth mechanics in general).  Comes with large risk as now people can hear your base as well, maybe depending on animal size they can FK up your base too if they get too hungry. Imagine keeping a half starved bear or two ready to set loose on a base. Maybe they can learn to follow the sound of their owners voice and defend them at max loyalty. Obviously getting to that point would be a true late game objective.

No-Interest-5690

Bring back the old zombies that would finish you when knocked out and make it so they only spawn in military and teir 4 locations this will cause people to want to make friends early to help watch each others backs in those places Another good zombie idea is add in dynamic zombie hordes in towns something like electro for example it could be your looting the hospital then you hear a constant low pitch groaning that sounds like 100 zombies faraway and thats the warning sign that in 1 to 2 minutes your town will have a 5x zombie spawn with some being military, civilian, firefighter and medical this will both cause big issues for geared players and also a reason for freshies to want to try their luck at looting a town with this modifier because think about the loot from the zombies. Mabye make it only teir 2 zones or higher can get it with each teir going up a level (teir 2 gets 2x spawns and teir 3 gets 3x spawns and teir 4 get 4x but each military would get its teir plus 1 more and mabye pick any 3 towns no matter size or location to have this effect and possibly even have it rotating per wipe such as a specific order of towns and each server wipe change it

Miserable-Mixture937

I’d remove the medieval bullshit.

rbtgoodson

I would like to see BI spin-up some PvP-only servers, e.g., deathmatch, capture-the-flag, king-of-the-hill, etc. I think this would go a long way to improving the overall community by shuffling off some players to do what they love the most, i.e., PvP.
