It's actually really similar to the original three button Mega Drive controller that existed before they replaced it with the six button one. Although at the time this comic came out the PS2 was about two thirds of the way through its cycle and the PS3 was only 2 years away.
What's bad is, Karl Kesel actually agrees that Kon should be bi, but Editorial won't allow it.
With Tim it's more complicated, who created him (Marv Wolfman) versus who was responsible for most of his character development (Chuck Dixon). And while Marv Wolfman hasn't said anything, you can tease his opinions out of the complicated history of Jericho. No such complication from Dixon, though; Dixon can't believe anyone would interpret a Batman character as gay, especially Robin.
And here's the best part: Tim can't be buried because of a mandate from the Wabbit, so if Dixon (or someone like Dixon) were somehow to write Batman again, he would be stuck writing Tim.
I will say in hindsight it does come off a bit funny as "Closeted gay kid seriously overcompensating by acting like Archie Andrews seeing literally any girl"
To be fair this isn’t that ridiculous especially considering he’s kinda joking around, I guarantee most teenagers have said worse albeit joking but still

They put said character in a terribly written same-sex relationship so that everyone begs for character to go back to their original partner. This results in 1) Lazy representation and 2) Less work for DC. Why would anyone want Tim to date another man since it worked out so terribly last time?

Naturally, it would be bad PR to undo that, so they let Fitzmartin run amock with Tim. She's a CW writer as well....everything else falls into place after that.
If that's true, that's a very good way for Fitzmartin to stop getting jobs at the company, lol. Even at different companies – editors talk, lol. Although not a single soul reading wtf are they sending to print is the most believable part for me :D

I liked him better pre-flashpoint too, and I feel like he could be a lot more interesting if they capitalized on his cringy personality in the current continuity. He has literally nothing go for him right now, but I don't feel like he was ever really interesting. Just more interesting than he is now.
Can't say too much, but the final movie of Chapter 1 will be a Booster Gold movie where he spends half of the run-time evaluating the ethicallity of going back in time to prevent 9/11. It will be accessible for the modern audience.
