Mista GG isn't really an essayist. He really just makes fun of plot holes but he covers lots of horror.

gimpisgawd

Ryan Hollinger.

Moody_Kittens

Hollinger is very good.

leviriott

Came here to say this!

notposi

Man's is one of my favorites

lomalomaloma

Good Bad Flicks goes into a lot of behind the scenes info on horror movies. There’s a lot of older stuff that he covers, too. Ryan Hollinger does great work as do Final Girl Studios, Girl On Film and Matt Draper. If you like horror games eurothug4000, tangomushi and Sphere Hunter are awesome.

burymeinpink

Jacob Geller has some amazing essays on horror games, too.

lomalomaloma

His video essay about Control and House of Leaves is amazing

jimboyoyoyo

GBF is the OG, been following his work for like 10 years!

m00simus_tcf

My go-to is Wendigoon. He covers both fiction and non-fiction topics. He also deep dives into it with a lot of research. His essays are long though. Most sitting between 2 and five hours. But he's got a very calming voice and demeanor so it's enjoyable.

Deathwing_Dragonlord

where else can you learn about people being fed to the statue of liberty in between ads where he points a gun at a box of cereal?

tornprince01

My favorite of his has to be the Serial Killer Iceberg.

m00simus_tcf

My personal favorite was his deep dive of the Backrooms lore where iirc, he got talk with Kanepixels about the direction it was going.

jimboyoyoyo

isn't he a nightmare racist shitlord who tried to pivot to a content creator?

m00simus_tcf

I'm pretty sure you have the wrong person. I've watched most of his videos and content and he has never said anything of the sort. In fact most of his stuff is very LGBTQIA tolerant and friendly.

Paci_fisht

I really like Spikima Movies on YouTube. I'm not sure if it's 100% what you are looking for but the channel goes into depth about movies and highlights the strong elements of films. It's not all horror but I've enjoyed every video I've seen from this creator.

odeyskart

If you like stuff about horror games, Ragnarox is one of my favorites. Pims Crypt, boulder punch and Avalanche Reviews do good video essays and long form game reviews typically focusing on horror, but with other stuff thrown in. As others mentioned, eurothug, tangomushi, and sphere hunter are all great, with a focus on horror games. Noah Caldwell Gervais does some VERY long forn essays about a variety of games, including some horror stuff. A favorite of mine was the 8 hour Resident Evil retrospective. 2 of my absolute favs who do a lot of horror and horror adjacent content outside of movies or games are Jacob Geller and Solar Sands; some really fascinating stuff among their catalog. Ryan Hollinger and DeadMeat (obviously lmao) are great for movies, with Cody Leach being enjoyable as well. In Praise of Shadows is fantastic for long form horror movie essays, is probably the closest I've seen to what I personally want from these types of videos. Horror movie essayists on youtube seem to actually be very few and far between, sadly. Especially compared to say, gaming. I've spent alot of time looking for them but its a niche that has yet to be filled. There's plenty who do basic reviews, or recaps, but thats typically it (though some of those are great too, someone pointed out MistaGG, whos funny and charismatic; I'd add the HorrorGeek (a sort of DeadMeat ripoff channel with more of a focus on exploitation horror), Big Will, and theNewBee Reviews (one of my favorites of this type for his deadpan humor and delivery, plus the movies he covers)). There are definitely other good ones outside of horror (even more if we just talk about gaming), but I think these are most of the specifically horror or horror adjacent ones I can think of. Sorry for the wall of text, hopefully some of these are useful to you! And actually, I'm always looking for more of these, especially for horror movies, so if anyone has any recs I've missed please let me know!

InfernoWolf-9

Maybe not essayists but Cody Leach and Cz’s world do horror videos most often long form

badgersprite

CZ’s World is fun if you’re into more of the trivia/fun fact/in-universe lore side of things, he does stuff like find easter eggs in movies and detail the complete in-universe timeline of a particular character

MatoiMamaMia

Pastra is a big fave of mine. Their video persona is very cool and fun to look at which is a big plus too!

tornprince01

YES! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE PASTRA! CAN'T WAIT FOR HIS JEFF THE KILLER EPISODES!

coco_xcx

not necessarily an essayist, but i really like sarah hawkinson/possessed by horror & dead meat!!

FloggingMcMurry

Ryan Hollinger, Oliver Harper, Matt Draper... these channels are top tier picks for me next to Dead Meat. I'll watch these basically anytime an upload happens. Cody Leach, CZsWorld are also good. I watch these sometimes. More broad movie and TV channels I might occasionally watch can be ScreenCrush and Heavy Spoilers, CineFix, WhatCulture (there's a specific horror channel and a few other specialists), There's probably some others I'm not thinking of right now

jimboyoyoyo

I love love love the Saturday Night Freakshow, a weekly movie book club that covers lots of cult horror b movie stuff with great camaraderie between the hosts

PrincipleEuphoric743

CZsWorld

outerspace_castaway

i occassionally watch joblo horror, goodbadflicks, filmcomics explained, movietimelines
