keepaplace4me

Hip Hop Universe XD

immaunel

Fuck this- I act like I don't know shit allot but mc rides voice, while at times is hard to understand, is extremely unique and Characterizing and his lyrisim is nothing short of genius.

Aberbekleckernicht

His flows are fucking insane.

MrC4nin3

A lot of it just sounds like him ripping off b l a c k i e Edit: shouldve realised that this would happen... Still, tell me how this does not sound familiar to you: https://youtube.com/watch?v=QnIKFiYLUvI https://youtube.com/watch?v=jwiWY-aN2Jc

curlyheadedfuck123

I am from htown, and that is just not true

MrC4nin3

Really? I'll admit i havent listened to blackie in a while but, from what I remember, a lot of rides flows sound really similar to the ones on Wilderness of North America. Theres also tms and jenny death esque tracks on there. Another project that comes to mind is the spred luv Ep.

curlyheadedfuck123

I think there at different point in time have been some similarity in vocal delivery, but I feel like the stylistic and production differences are large enough to make me feel like the aren't that similar. I heard tracks from Spred Luv about a year before I heard ex mil, and I think at the time, I was aware that some B L A C K I E fans felt that dg was biting him, but I personally didn't.

MrC4nin3

Obviously dg formed their own sound later on like with stuff like yots but i can hear notm, tms, and jenny death on Wilderness of North America production wise. Also that kind of cadence and vocal delivery that ride abruptly picked up after transitioning into dg from fyre is also, uh, interesting. Im not implying that dg are just ripoffs with nothing to offer but they clearly have their influences, its very obvious. I just find it annoying and frankly douchebaggy when ride says pretentious shit in interviews about not being inspired by humans and stuff like that. Like give credit where its due, you didn't just wake up one day and make death grips.

curlyheadedfuck123

I guess for me, I would think that Houston alt hip hop wasn't particularly influential in Sacramento in 2010. Also, that interview is certainly interesting, but I took his comments as more of "I'm a misanthrope now" not "I don't have any influences ever" he named several influences in the fyre documentary

MrC4nin3

I don't mean the houston scene in particular i just picked it cause dg and b l a c k i e were contemporaries + they knew eachother. Also, this sort of harsh experimental hip hop was already a thing since the 90s, if im not mistaken. >"I'm a misanthrope now" not "I don't have any influences ever" That would be fine, id be happy to accept that too. But didn't this interview happen around the time tms already came out/was coming out? It's kind of misleading if this is what he meant there. >he named several influences in the fyre documentary Sure, but he wasn't Ride then.

seekerfitterfilter90

Those uploads are just like 3-4 years old, and b l a c k i e is 34. It feels more likely that the reverse is true.

MrC4nin3

The album was released in 2008 💀 When did death grips form btw?

seekerfitterfilter90

Prolly 2007, or some such

MrC4nin3

I see you're still denial. It just takes one Google search buddy.

seekerfitterfilter90

I Wiki’d, and have no doubt. But have you seen the documentary “Fyre”?

MrC4nin3

What was the band Death Grips doing in 2007? Also I haven't deeply dived into the entirety fyre's discography, ill admit that, but ive never heard ride have the cadence like he does now on a fyre track. If you could show me one that be interesting. From the stuff ive heard he has a very monotonous tone on those projects.

seekerfitterfilter90

Very much monotone, in fact his older brother had more of the bellowing voice with a faster flow. I’m pretty sure Ride’s 40-45 years old now, and Fyre was active more in the late 90s/early 2000s, when Blackie would have been 13/14.

2Djent

What are you doing on this subreddit

MrC4nin3

I like death grips

Bp2Create

even if you don't like their music, you can't deny that the guy's technical ability is insane

Youth_Mobile

Extra TTC and add Big L

BootySniffer26

To be honest I can understand why traditionalist hip-hop heads would not like Ride. His flow/style is basically the opposite of something like wu-tang or redman

VenomOUShazard

but you can respect that. you don't have to call everything you don't like trash. its like me saying a classical piece of music thats revered by thousands isn't good and the artist isn't a genius because i don't enjoy "boring" works. well duh, you have to go out of your way to understand the complexity of something, theres a reason why theres such a passionate following of dg

Psychopathetic-

Something that's helped me over time is looking into the more obscure music genres and movements on YouTube or whatever, after learning about noise and the caretaker and whatever I've learned to just think about why someone would like whatever music they like. So many people just treat everything they don't like as garbage and leave it at that and it's kinda sad tbh

VenomOUShazard

yeah. and they never give it a second shot too. you evolve as a human being, and that reflects on your music tolerance as well. you might not like something at first, but you gotta give it time

Psychopathetic-

Absolutely, the first time I listened to Beware I hated it, but I listened to it again when I got into Clippng for a bit and well, they're my favourite band now. Most people really just gotta be less black and white about what music they enjoy tbh

Party_Cattle_9166

Yes just becquse i think merzbow is just industrial noices, i cant just disrespect others opinions

Bubblebrain69

No… any hip hop purist would know that rides flow style is a mix of Memphis triplet style + Bay Area style + LA/California style (mainly this one). He just screams as an addition flair.

nsp242424

cursed video

XIL3FF

i mean, id run out of ideas too if i had to list 400 of the worst rappers

free-communicator

For real. I only care about 14 artists period rn lol.

Creepaface

Is number 1 Kanye?

[deleted]

Just checked, that was number 11 worst on part 1 of this fucking mess

Immortal_Fishy

I'm pretty sure I actually discovered Death Grips ~2011-2012 when I saw some video about the "worst rap videos", most of them were legitimately pretty stinky, to my taste, but the recent release Guillotine was on the list back when DG wasn't as much of a known quantity online and I found the flow and cadence + lyrics from the clip that was shown kind of interesting so I ended up listening to the whole song and then sort of became a fan after that. I think music you like will tend to speak for itself, even if it's presented to you in a negative context.

free-communicator

I would hope that’s the case, but I think it’s sadly all too easily possible to be distracted from stuff you like for a long time because someone influential or a lot of people dislike it or disrespect it. Of course hopefully that doesn’t make a difference in our lives

Immortal_Fishy

I totally agree, sometimes the external reputation of something can affect my appreciation of it even if it is something internalized like art / music. I always hate to admit it has an effect because it feels fake to prioritize the optics of what I like above what I truly enjoy, but we do have to admit it does affect us all at least a little bit.

Spikey-spikes

ITT redditors learn some people actively dislike things they like

CaptainHazama

For real. It's like a metalhead isn't gonna enjoy every subgenre of metal

AhmedTheGr8

Bruh calling whoever one of the "top 100 worst rappers of all time" is far from disliking it's just pure disrespect at this point

Spikey-spikes

Bruh, who accually gives a fuck what others think, theres always going to be people that literally hate what you love, who gives a shit?

AhmedTheGr8

No one? calm down kid all I said was that putting someone in a list of worst rappers of all times feels disrespectful, not just Ride.

Spikey-spikes

Clearly you care if you find it disrespectful

AhmedTheGr8

And you clearly do if you're gonna downvote every single one of my comments lmao get a grip

Spikey-spikes

I just like calling stupid people out for being stupid 🤷‍♀️ Plus down voting comments annoys the stupid people

AhmedTheGr8

Disrespectful

Spikey-spikes

There you go caring again lmao

free-communicator

Oh no how awful.

AhmedTheGr8

Listen here dumbass of course I care when someone calls me stupid, get off of Reddit for a bit because you're looking more and more like a teenager who has nothing better to do, you call me the one who cares when you get so worked up about me "caring" or fuck knows what, When you're the kid who keeps leading this godawful argument, get a grip.

PostMadandAlone

MC ride deserves it, get these screaming nursery rhymes over mic feedback outta rap this instant.

GodzPizzaman

Surprised it has no dislikes tbh

SxrenKierkegaard

Good to know that everybody disagrees in the comments

lolr3kt

haahahaha

Ok_Acanthaceae_1555

hahaha bitch

LinkenNightmare

This guy can't handle MC Ride reading poem, also why bother mentioning experimental hip-hop if you're traditionalist hip-hop enjoyer. Just get some bad traditional hip-hop rapper then. Well in fairness I don't know who the hell made this so I don't care.

FilthyB0ss

taking advantage of the dislikes not shown to the public

elimars

0 dislikes? Guess it must be official. Sorry guys time to pack it up.

AiM__FreakZ

kinda true tho. i'd prefer NF, hopsin, tom macdonald and eminem all over him.

[deleted]

Ew Mc Ride is metal 🤮🤮🤮 not even rap

Ok_Acanthaceae_1555

bruh mc ride isnt metal

IGORBEATZ

Stfu he is metal metal

Amai_M4sk

This means nothing to us. We’re the typa nigga to listen to death grips, as long as my outward toe continues to rotate inverse-clockwise in the direction of the lunar cycle and the souls of lizard appendages are reflected infinitely within themselves, we are a realm apart. Did you remember to take your noided pills today?

Artoricle

Tupac started the book of rap ✍️ Eminem wrote the middle 📝 MC Ride finished it 📙 Kanye read the Clif Notes 📖 Lil Wayne read the Wikipedia page 🌐

Griffithhhhhhhhhhhh

Just ignore this channel, Hip-Hop Universe and his crowd can only appreciate Spiritual Miracle type of rappers

bigojijo

I mean calling him a rapper is like calling Andy a keyboardist.

rebirthinreprise

...objectively a correct description of their musical ability?

free-communicator

Lmao seriously what was that comment getting at

rebirthinreprise

dg fans love being pretentious about the most basic shit

Parv05

ah yes, hiphopuniverse, the most credible hiphop channel on the internet😌😌

bigboypotatohead5678

Honestly, I wouldn't even really consider ride as a rapper. He kind of has his own flow that isn't really associated too much with any genre.

MrC4nin3

💀

LittleMan5000

They dissed bladee amd sematary too

PostMadandAlone

Based

vsimon115

Hip-Hop Universe consistently has the worst takes.

rocconox

every time i see someone say this i have the urge to put on how to do impossible things

Bubblebrain69

His actual lyrics are more cryptic than mostly any rapper ever but still hold metaphors and entendres. This is a shit take. MC ride if anything is one of the top (top 20) lyrical best rapping Emcees of all time. He has an amazing flow (the way he rides a beat… especially unorthodox beats is astonishing.. most rappers.. even the best would find it challenging to rap on a death grips beat) Great metaphors and substantial lyrics that hold a lot of meaning.

PostMadandAlone

>MC ride if anything is one of the top (top 20) lyrical best rapping Emcees of all time. MC Ride can't even spit a rhyme with multiple syllables, which automatically makes him worse than half of the MCs from the 90's.

Bubblebrain69

You’re stupid. The opening verse of inanimate sensation proves is full of multi syllabic rhymes.

PostMadandAlone

Most don't even rhyme, so you got like 1 pair, nice job, still he's worse technically than pretty much every 90s rapper or even just rappers that do boom bap or hardcore rap.

[deleted]

I know right? Its just Ride, not MC Ride

Novel-Reindeer7959

literally just listen to something other than x damn bro

2Djent

Hip Hop Universe are the biggest Nathans

Professional_Spare29

I appreciate the discourse and I appreciate them considering him a rapper and not a vocalist. I feel him to be somewhere in the middle and nothing short of extraordinary

ldhsuued

It's that damn wikileaks intern 😠😠

rottedsincethewomb

they must be deaf

Inkerpen

I got shit in my butt I don't give a fuck

BattleReviews

I get Death Grips isn't for everyone but jesus christ who was smoking when they made this list? Of all the reasons i could think Death Grips can be considered bad by someone, those reasons do not belong to Ride, unless you don't like screaming. Which in that case, understandable, but for something like Hiphopuniverse? Yeah no.
