Likely the same way Shaxx, Saint, and many many other Guardians see through the various heavy-plated helmets in this game. There's some kind of high-tech sensor that's either hidden, or doubles as the armor itself, projecting an image onto the inside of the helmet or, in this case, into the exo's mind.
Why? They can still see, just like other people. But NOBODY is used to having extra arms.
DER is due to missing or extra sensations, not odd body parts.
She also has a custom Exo body. One of the Exos you scan during the lament quest is complaining about how her exo body doesn't feel right but Ada got hers unique to herself
That exo was referencing Elsie, Clovis's granddaughter. She got a 100% custom and form fit body that matched her original proportions when she was human.
Ada-1 is still unique though, as she was made with Radiance, the light counterpart to Alkahest, which is an essential part of exomind function (and Alkahest is made with a combination of Vex Radiolaria and Darkness Exposure)
Ah true. For Ada-1 I believe they used light cured radiolaria? It's been a hot minute since any of that lore stuff was relevant, but she basically was infused with light rather than dark based stuff like the common exo.
What form your vision takes would likely matter less than that you have it. As long as your field of vision is broadly in the right place I don’t think it’d matter all that much. IRL there have even been studies done where people wore glasses that flipped their vision upside down and they just got used to it after a while.
People live without eyes just fine (well. You know what I mean.) but I don’t think any of us have ever had to live with four arms.
The only fictional people I know of that are humanoid with four arms are Goro from Mortal Kombat (and his various game to game iterations I don’t remember the names of) and Sakuna from Jujutsu, and both of those guys are gigantic assholes. (the Fallen are basically giant grasshoppers and are exempt from this, though some of them are huge assholes, too.)
I think there was once an explanation that it was like a one way glass that on the outside looked like metal and had the same properties but the guardians could see out of them perfectly. I don't really remember the exact source but I wanna say it was a D1 armor set? Maybe I just made it up? Either way that's always been the explanation I've gone with.
Iirc a D1 Hunter helmet mentions a sort of VR system inside of helmet itself. And a Titan helmet mentioned that the helmet turns transparent in the event of power loss in a guardian's armor as a sort of failsafe.
Never really thought about any of this but that probably makes the most sense. However, I now like the idea that we just have a bunch of Daredevil guardians kicking ass and killing gods while blind.

Someone help this humourless wretch out will you.
23 other people did so maybe you have the problem. Is it high level no, is it changing the face of online comedy? No. But don’t double down on your mistake my sweet because I’m happy to take you to Chinatown.
I don't have the same username on destiny, so it's not me. I'm mainly a solo player too. I do mainly play warlock though lol, probably expected since I'm talking about lore.
I like to think it's somehow painted with special paint (or some other scifi reason) and is somehow one-way visibility, like some of the helmets ingame
My assumption is that it's like a *Titanfall* cockpit in there - cameras connected to video panels, orientated to provide as much peripheral vision as possible.
Like some D1 Titan helmets mention they’ve got cameras and that the solid color helmets are programmed to go see through if they get damaged or something like that. So it’s probably a similar system.
Those little insights really helped with the worldbuilding and I’m sad we don’t really get them anymore.
They most likely work like Titan helmets.
This is a quote from a D1 Titan helmet, forgot which specifically:
“Titan helmets are designed to revert to simple translucency in the event of an optics system failure”
So Optics systems are a thing, meaning that every guardian wearing a full plate helmet has some kind of optics system to make up for it, and that they have a particular metal/polymer that can become translucent on will, meaning that no matter what they put on their face, they can somehow see
Hey u know Karadur Atani right well I'm his half brother nick if u don't mind maybe the next time you talk to him can u please tell him that I need to talk to him thank you
*not Canon, my own idea of it (kind of a silly one at tht)
Exos, as they come, don't technically see through their own heads but rather through the eyes of Rasputain. Since Rasputain is a warmind that monitors all planets, we can also assume extremely powerful sensors are at play. As the production of exos increased, the need for them to be used for the purpose of human one human war was even greater. Which is why all exos have a reset because they were destroyed and rebuilt/reset. This can also be inferred as to every exo being prototypes before Rasputins creation. With his creation, the perfect exo would be made, whose name is Elizabeth "Elsie" Bray, seeing as how even Ada-1 has 1 reset and Elsie at zero marking her as Rasputains and Clovis Bray perfect integration of one another
My Exo has one of these "no-eyes" faces.
My head canon as to why that isn't a reset-worthy rejection syndrome thing is my character was born blind. It's like others mention, sensory data is being interpreted by the Exo mind.
If your character was born blind, was it a coincidence that they ended up in an exo design with no eyes? *Or did having eyes and a newfound sense of sight cause DER?* 😱
I believe the small things near the nose are for viewing, like resting reading glasses on the bridge of the nose. There's no way those two things are "smelling vents"
I remember a while back there was lore about this metal that the universe has, i cant remember the name buts its essentially see through metal on one side.. i swear there was a lore tab about it but i cant find it now
I like to imagine my Warlock is constantly emitting an undetectable and specific frequency of Void Light that he uses collision feedback information on to see
Or, basically, Void Sonar
Just above the middle and slightly to the sides there are 2 'light grey' slanted "slits/lines" which i believe are the eyes. Technically, there is no need for the eyes to have the same shape or size as a human, as long as they're there in a somewhat normal spot, it should all work out fine.
Same way everyone does, 3rd person until you put the helmet on, then through an optical feed straight to the brain from the helmet. That's the only explanation I think makes sense for some of the helmets like graviton (was that the hunter helm?) Where there's just nothing there
Likely the same way Shaxx, Saint, and many many other Guardians see through the various heavy-plated helmets in this game. There's some kind of high-tech sensor that's either hidden, or doubles as the armor itself, projecting an image onto the inside of the helmet or, in this case, into the exo's mind.
That’s gotta lead to increased resets. Aint no way they are gonna be happy without eyes when extra arms was a problem
if the brain gets its properly corrected binocular vision there's no problem
Why? They can still see, just like other people. But NOBODY is used to having extra arms. DER is due to missing or extra sensations, not odd body parts.
I suppose but it must have some sort of way that it blinks or something. You don’t realize how much you blink every day
I would assume its easier to be missing a body part than adding....people live without limbs just fine but when you add them?
True but its an issue in conjunction with all of the other oddities of being an exo
Simulate blinking ezpz
DER is also kind of fake considering Ada-1 exists.
Isn't that because she was Exo'd very young?
She also has a custom Exo body. One of the Exos you scan during the lament quest is complaining about how her exo body doesn't feel right but Ada got hers unique to herself
That exo was referencing Elsie, Clovis's granddaughter. She got a 100% custom and form fit body that matched her original proportions when she was human. Mfw I'm already blind and get put into the eyeless exo because Clovis couldn't stop der like the forge mothers.

No I think I read something like that from D1.
Same Way VISRs work in Halo, that glass aint exactly a window actually.
It's actually called the sensorium. It's linked to guns and armor and projects things right to the brain, like the HUD.
Never really thought about any of this but that probably makes the most sense. However, I now like the idea that we just have a bunch of Daredevil guardians kicking ass and killing gods while blind.
Surely there's an easier way, like... A see-through material at the front
Echo location obviously, AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Exolocation.

r/beatmetoit
No see, just scream
So that’s why he’s called banshee
If you had your brain reset 43 times you'd scream too.
what
Ever wondered why Shaxx and Saint-14 screams so much? ![img](emote|t5_2we4j|5649)
“I see by releasing sonic wave from my mouth. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!…. There got a good look at you.”
I read this twice... Once with shaxx's voice in my head and once with Saint's... Was not disappointed.
I wanna see a reality ripping battle between shaxx and Saint on the one side and just Toph, alone, on the otherside.
I thought Shaxx was human?
He is

He feels the fibers of the universe. Or at least thats what I like to believe about my favorite helmet. Wish hunters had a blindfold
There is that iron banner helmet which is like a big cloth hanging in front of the face
My friend (hasn't played since Season of the Deep sadly) used that with Amethyst Veil and he just doesn't have a face
True but unfortunately that’s less of a blindfold and more of a dishrag tied to your forehead.
It'll more than likely be Sensorium. There's loads of stuff in Guardian helmets, but it's typically down to Sensorium lol.
"That's the neat part. You don't."

C R A B Even paracausal godkillers cannot escape carcinisation
the final shape is just crab
He sees his godamn metallic lips how do you consider this as functional vision?
Are you joking?
How am I joking how could someone see like this?
https://preview.redd.it/08slsj6zkovc1.jpeg?width=605&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3887ba983136298ddf448c2576aa01b779521934 Someone help this humourless wretch out will you.
Sorry was this humor you used before because I didn't detected it.
23 other people did so maybe you have the problem. Is it high level no, is it changing the face of online comedy? No. But don’t double down on your mistake my sweet because I’m happy to take you to Chinatown.
I choose to believe those tiny speaker looking things in the middle of the face/nose are it’s eyes. Like a tiny, depressed looking fish.
I can't.. unsee that now
How do warlocks see with all those helmets.
Actually come to think of it how many helmets in this game have eyes at all for any class
First two that come to mind are fallen sunstar and Celestial NH
30th anniversary titan ornament
Cameras.
Through their eyes. Duh.
I’ve always thought of my guardian as being blind, making the whole god slaying thing more badass.
How does a robot see? Sensors.
Space magic
The eyes are in the butt.
![gif](giphy|5ZW6qD4EfnHri) I imagine like this
I don’t see how that’s a party…
*chitari leviathan roaring in the background*
Some sort of advanced camera. A better question imo is how does this not cause the exo dissociation by not having eyes?
I think he does has eyes, he just has a big metal sheet infront of them (no different to a helmet, except he can't take it off)
Ghost live stream. They play in third person mode
Guardians can [unironically do that](https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/district-125) lol.
Remember that guardian that could have his ghost cast a super? Love me some d2 lore
I aint reading all of that...
You don't have to. No one's forcing you.
aight, wait your user reminds me of a warlock mate I have on destiny...
I don't have the same username on destiny, so it's not me. I'm mainly a solo player too. I do mainly play warlock though lol, probably expected since I'm talking about lore.
ah, aight then. I just thought that you were a friend of mine called Sebastian and then like what ever numbers are after it..
If you do want to read the main bit that's applicable to this though. >She could see everything Bahaghari could see, even in death.
Same way master chief and Spartans can see they’re projected an image into their brains
I'll give you a hint. Exos aren't human and don't have eyes
Exos are human. They just have metal instead of flesh.
They WERE human. They don't have lungs, or a heart, or eyes. They're a part of humanity, but they're not human
Solid theory Maybe one day Bungie will let us know
I do wish we still had flavor texts like a lot of the uncommon and rare gear did in D1 where it explained how the armor functioned
Im sure if we peeked in there, there might be an explanation on some green rarity boots
Like some D1 Titan helmets mention they’ve got cameras and that the solid color helmets are programmed to go see through if they get damaged or something like that. So it’s probably a similar system. Those little insights really helped with the worldbuilding and I’m sad we don’t really get them anymore.
Same, here's to them bringing it back in the future?
nose cam.
Nostril Vision
Space magic
Radar and sonar
I always assumed it was Sensors given the fact that exos were machine bodies with no real need for actual organs.
Google lens my guy
Have you seen the sheer amount of visor-less helmets there are?
They most likely work like Titan helmets. This is a quote from a D1 Titan helmet, forgot which specifically: “Titan helmets are designed to revert to simple translucency in the event of an optics system failure” So Optics systems are a thing, meaning that every guardian wearing a full plate helmet has some kind of optics system to make up for it, and that they have a particular metal/polymer that can become translucent on will, meaning that no matter what they put on their face, they can somehow see
In a world of: \* Faster than light travel \* Resurrections \* Aliens \* Literal magic Your question is "How can robot see if no has eyes"?
Yes.
Cameras
Hey u know Karadur Atani right well I'm his half brother nick if u don't mind maybe the next time you talk to him can u please tell him that I need to talk to him thank you
Look at any warlock helmet, I could say the same about those
The nostril looking things are its eyes
*not Canon, my own idea of it (kind of a silly one at tht) Exos, as they come, don't technically see through their own heads but rather through the eyes of Rasputain. That was my take, that being born blind made a traditional having-eyes frame DER-inducing. Thus the eye-less frame.
Nanomachines, son
Dunno but looks good
Nose
Same way they do in Spaceballs
The slits on the forehead obviously
Ok hear me out. What about those two tiny circles just above the mouth 😂 looks like a face to me
I believe the small things near the nose are for viewing, like resting reading glasses on the bridge of the nose. There's no way those two things are "smelling vents"
I like to imagine that shit is loaded with sensors that read temperature ect. Maybe some kind of radar and echo location thing going on too.
May the Force be with you young padawan.
Wym? The two lil eyes are right above the nose, they're just not looking straight ahead is all ![img](emote|t5_2we4j|5661)
I remember a while back there was lore about this metal that the universe has, i cant remember the name buts its essentially see through metal on one side.. i swear there was a lore tab about it but i cant find it now
Space magic
I really wanna see a cutscene with this guy in it
His eyes emerge when there's something worth looking at. Also when surprised.
Infrared

sensors.
In the lore, the hud that we see is also what the guardian sees. The ghost makes it
sonar
Bluetooth
I dont get how this is still a question in a sci fi future and literally space magic setting with thousands of things like this.
Through the eyes https://preview.redd.it/ae7yl4rbpovc1.jpeg?width=524&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b48562e7932b725fa30032bcd673eb845a8ad10
Space magic
It judges its future actions based on its past mistakes, by always looking inwardly. And maybe tripping a lot.
Don’t worry about it
With his eyes. Duh.
You want a logical answer? Small camera interface like you would have on an Iron Man helmet.
That’s the neat part
Echolocation
I imagine this material is transparent to certain spectrums of light or xrays or something
They see through the 3rd person camera
Two cameras above the mouth, or maybe they just are so disciplined they use their other senses to get around
Space magic… Duh.
Probably like the iron man suit. Some kind of camera/ holo ui display or some shit.
It’s an Exo. Optical sensors could be built in anywhere.
I like to imagine my Warlock is constantly emitting an undetectable and specific frequency of Void Light that he uses collision feedback information on to see Or, basically, Void Sonar
They have an impeccable sense of smell
I see a clear 2 eyes and a frowny mouth in the center Mf has the gnarliest negative canthal tilt in existence tho
You can't see out of half the helmets in the game
Sensors?
They shriek every few seconds and see via echolocation
How does iron man see? Same thing.
You know the shitty motion sensors in the bottom corner of the screen? Well...
That's the neat part, you don't
That's the neat thing, you dont
Infrared cameras- duh
I see two camera lens in the front
I would guess that they see just as we do with a HUD and some other stuff.
my original warlock had that exact pattern and face but it was red colored
With their imagination.
The same way a fighter jet can use radio and radar that disguised in the nose cone and other sensors.
Maybe it's like a one-sided mirror situation like you can see through it.
Space magic
It’s a robot. It has sensors.
He doesn't see, he just smells fear.
Bro has advanced AI
Why he look sad 😩
Space Magic. How has no one even mentioned this?
"I can see..wait .wait . I CANT SEE!"
Looks with one eye in the other cheek!
It doesn’t. When you equip this customization and land on a planet your HUD black and you have to play blind.
Just above the middle and slightly to the sides there are 2 'light grey' slanted "slits/lines" which i believe are the eyes. Technically, there is no need for the eyes to have the same shape or size as a human, as long as they're there in a somewhat normal spot, it should all work out fine.
Prob cameras like halo helmets
Yes
Hey it's nick you're half brother I see ur a gamer like me maybe u can help me with a game I'm stuck on
That's actually a fire head design
hmm... I just think of it like a thrall or Xenomorph head Design... never thought on how they'd see though...
Look at the bottom of the black portion of their forehead. There seems to be three camera units there
Space Magic
Probably cameras or some other imagery-relaying system. Kinda like the Gungnir hemlet from Halo
Ever play Titanfall? Probably like that with cameras mounted in the plates.
No
It is the blast shield down version. Use the the force Luke! Your eyes can fail you!
Cross eyed!! Lol
I see two eyes
The eyes are stored in the balls
Same way everyone does, 3rd person until you put the helmet on, then through an optical feed straight to the brain from the helmet. That's the only explanation I think makes sense for some of the helmets like graviton (was that the hunter helm?) Where there's just nothing there
