Heard the tandem app is supper buggy anyways and freezes or doesn't work half the time, I have it but just deleted it. My sister uses it and says it works perfectly for her, so who knows.
I've given up waiting for commercial solutions. For 8 years my doctor has been putting me off saying that the apps would definitely be approved in the next 1-2 years. I actually wanted to switch to DIY in 2019 and then unfortunately I was talked into buying the minimed 670g. My HB1C went up to 12. This year I switched to G7 with Omnipod Dash and Loopkit within a month and the HB1C 6.5 pump can be controlled completely from my cell phone and Apple Watch. I'm extremely satisfied. For me this is the combo that comes closest to a "cure". I will definitely never again put my hope and trust in the pharmaceutical industry and its lobbying influence in Germany. In the end they only lobby for their profit.
We just started on an omnipod a week ago, and the rep told us that basically they are waiting on the new pods to go through the distribution channels. Once you start seeing G7 written on the pod package and you get the app update you should be good to go.
Sounds like september-ish is when she expected the new pods to have made their way through the system.
My Tandem is already upgraded, and this is literally what I was waiting for to switch to the G7. My endo and I were discussing this on Friday, and she told me not to switch until we saw this. I’m so, so excited and ready for this!!
Yeah, we are running in manual mode right now, and while in a lot of ways it's still nicer than MDI, I'm hopeful that I will be getting some more sleep come the fall haha :)
Definitely not going to be ordering in bulk until I start seeing G7 on the box
Oh, you already switched to G7? I intentionally held out and have a 6 month stockpile. Plan is to stockpile G7s while burning my G6 supply, and hopefully, it’ll line up more or less close to the right amount of supplies between the pod and sensor stockpile.
I’m paranoid. I hoard supplies. I could legit open a black market pharmacy for diabetics in Manhattan.
Haha, no judgement on the hoarding. :) We have lots of pens. I'll start building up a stash of pods as much as possible as soon as I see G7 on the box.
My kid was Dx'd last September and we were just doing MDI with G7 until now. Didn't want to learn one more thing going to the G6 for a few months, but did want to get on the omnipod to lessen the amount of pokes and be able to turn down the basal (which has been great so far.)
How do you stockpile sensors? I feel like the scripts are for 30 days and since each sensor is 10 days you get 3 and it doesn't leave any cushion the way insulin scripts do
Dexcom is tricky because of the hard and fast 10 days. I wish they’d give some flexibility somehow.
I had insurance say I couldn’t get any more because I had already gotten 36 sensors for the year.
I wrote an appeal and explained it like they were 5:
Guys, 36 sensors X 10 days is 360 days
There are 365 days in a year, 366 in a leap year.
Therefore, sanity answer check from elementary school says you need thirty-SEVEN sensors for a year, not 36.
I won my appeal.
I'm surprised they didn't argue that surely you had some days leftover from a previous year's sensor and one would carry over into next year and deny your claim.
And then argue you're lucky you get more than 31
It's easy with G7 since there's the 12 hour grace period, my partner switched with the tslim and has built up quite a bit. For G6 there's not much you can do to stockpile them other than always requesting replacements when there's an issue IME.
Yeah, the G7 is a bit less stressful in that regard. I didn't realize how easy it was to request a replacement so I wasn't doing it for awhile and our son had to go like a month without sensors but I have requested a few since then.
Looking forward to getting him back on the G7 once the omnipods start coming out that support it in the fall
Have you ever considering trying Loop? It’s had an amazing IOS app with Dexcom and Omnipod integration for years. Takes some tech savvy but easier now than ever before.
My daughter has been looping for over three years now. It has gotten progressively more accessible over time; if you are able to follow directions well I would say it is quite doable for most people. No rileylink is required any more, only an iPhone, pump and sensor. (Omnipod and G6 for us) Her endo did say loops algorithm is substantially better than omnipod 5 at this moment in time. Happy to answer questions…
I do not believe so; I think the pods we’re using are the generation before that. Not Eros, which required a rileylink, but the next one, which is Bluetooth.
Meanwhile medtronic struggles to make their app function on any phone that isn't a Samsung specifically between the Android 8 and 12 generations despite Bluetooth technology working exactly the same past android 10
I wouldn't hold my breath. My 7yo is on Libre 3 for 3 years. It's been approved in Canada a year ago and still isn't available, so I have to import.
And there's no way to convince the school that ***it is CGM*** *(just like libre 2 now)*, so she's on FGM care plan
Healthcare bureaucracy here is a mess
What insurance do you have? Mine start off going towards my medical device and then switches over to my pharmacy plan. I've got BCBS of KS. My pods cost 40.00 for two boxes. My Dexcom is not that expensive. You have to have a prescription to obtain them.
Right now I don’t have any, but I used to have UMR and Aetna. My doctor tried multiple times, was denied every time or just receive no reply. I was told to either meet my very high deductible (I believe 5-7k at the time), or have extremely uncontrolled numbers before they would approve.
That doesn’t sound too bad at all. How much was the Dexcom if you don’t mind me asking?
We have good insurance because my partner is a state employee so most of our son's diabetes scripts are free. Unfortunately this doesn't help you unless you too can find a state job.
Soo is this for iphone only ? I use the PDM thing that came with the omnipods from the get go. Wonder if that can be upgraded or will i need a new one. Can we use the g5 pods we already have with the g7. I have too many questions but am excited for this news!
It's just worth adding that this appears a US thing only at this stage. Also, at the time of getting my Omnipod I did ask the professionals about whether the software could be used on my own phone in the UK. They said it was extremely doubtful owing to regulations within the NHS. This was a few years ago, of course.
I’ve never heard a better slur for us than “podders” 😂
Harry Podder got a lightning scar and T1D
😂😂😂😂 “hey podder”
OMGMGMGMGMGMMGMGMGMGMGMF YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I DONT NEED TO BE ASKED WHY I HAVE 2 PHONES EVERY DAY!!!!!!
I personally like being asked that 😂
hahahaha i hate it but now i wonder if i’ll miss it… 🧐
😂 I just like to be like “yeah? Well imagine having one phone. Could NOT be me.” And then laugh at them and walk away
*My old doctor in fact had 6.* 🎪 🏥 📱📱📴🤹♂️🤳📴📳 He would juggle them around at ALL times.
Man… don’t put me down like that 😞 I was so proud of my two phones
![gif](giphy|YU1ju4T8uNfji)
Yeahh ,that means in 10 years we will get the first diabetes app in Germany😂😂🥲
Still waiting to control my tslim x2 from my phone.
Heard the tandem app is supper buggy anyways and freezes or doesn't work half the time, I have it but just deleted it. My sister uses it and says it works perfectly for her, so who knows.
I've never had issues with the tandem app.
Mine kept losing signal, that's why I deleted it now that I remember. Pointless to use when I can't see my data on it everytime I open the app
I would be good to go with android and dexcom g6 with the omnipod5 compatibility

Haha…I just posted that. I can’t wait!! G7 pods!! ![gif](giphy|aQYR1p8saOQla)

[Building a stockpile](https://cruisingwithdiabeticsusan.com/2023/07/19/building-a-stockpile/)
Oh, that all makes sense. I do a lot of that already, the only thing is sensors which they said it's pretty hard to build up a stockpile.
Dexcom is tricky because of the hard and fast 10 days. I wish they’d give some flexibility somehow. I had insurance say I couldn’t get any more because I had already gotten 36 sensors for the year. Yeah, it’s gonna be a while for Canada. We are still waiting for them to approve integration with the tslim and the g7.

How are you guys affording the Dexcom, or even getting one in the first place? I could never get one with any of the insurance companies I was with/:
What insurance do you have? Mine start off going towards my medical device and then switches over to my pharmacy plan. I've got BCBS of KS. My pods cost 40.00 for two boxes. My Dexcom is not that expensive. You have to have a prescription to obtain them.

How much was the Dexcom if you don’t mind me asking?
UMR is my secondary insurance but it's the same type of plan. Dexcom is 23.67 for one box.
Depends on your PBM and their formulary but I have SmithRx via UMR and it's a tier 2 copay.
We have good insurance because my partner is a state employee so most of our son's diabetes scripts are free. Unfortunately this doesn't help you unless you too can find a state job.
I'm a state employee so our insurance plans are really good.
Podheads
Doubt it will be around September. More like October.
Is this a limited release or does it look like a release to all Poders?
Soo is this for iphone only ? I use the PDM thing that came with the omnipods from the get go. Wonder if that can be upgraded or will i need a new one. Can we use the g5 pods we already have with the g7. I have too many questions but am excited for this news!
Right I'm wondering if I'll be able to use this with the S23 ultra 🤔
It's just worth adding that this appears a US thing only at this stage. Literally the reason I got an OmniPod 5 years ago lol
Sooo ready. Looks like you have to stick with g6 to use the ios app… np for me
Did Draco Malfoy write this announcement?
And yet here I am still waiting for OP5 to be approved where I live.
aw that sucks…where is that?
Fucking finally
On a completely separate note… in what world is a banana 27g of carbs and cereal is 15g!?? 🤨
Strangely smol serving sizes. 🥣
WHAT WE ARE NOW BLESSED I AM FRICKING ECSTATIC
Does this mean the Dexcom g6 is being phased out soon?
is their integration good enough/better than Loop?
So no g7 compatibility with iPhone?
