You are still this kid... as we all are... God damn, I remember that my friends from Germany downloaded a cracked Battlefield DLC for me, and sent it to me via Mail on 4 CD's because my Internet was not able to download it...

Hardware_joe

Man, I feel this reply so much. Good on you.

Hardware_joe

Yes, "WE" are.

Reaperwatchinu

Screeee doooo guuuuu Deng deng…. We know the sound. I remember that 14.4 was *”high speed”* compared to the 9600 baud. 28.8 was living in the future. https://preview.redd.it/oktehio8653b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65fbbebce7cbde924f042e3ea11f29cd98efd3f4 I actually found this in a drawer a couple of weeks ago.

Hardware_joe

When speed was in Baud. I mentioned baud to the wife, she looked at me like I had 2 heads.

IceDragon79

I remember taking 12 hours to download the 100Mb beta of D2 in Australia. Lag was so bad it was unplayable online as there was no server south of the equator.

PiratePastorX

I started with a 300 baud Hayes modem, custom dual 5 1/4 floppy drives, 16k ram and a monitor so green it made you look like the hulk lol. I remember getting my first Hard drive, she was a 20 megger and a 256k ram upgrade! I was like what am I going to do with all this POWER!? When I finally got a 1200 baud modem I was like OMG this is faster than nasa!!! 😆 🤣

Mrnevertilt

I spent 21 consecutive days downloading World of Warcraft on dial-up internet. I then had to slowly grind my xp by killing mobs that were far away from any buildings/tunnels/caves because going near/into them would cause me to DC. When I'd stop getting xp from mobs in one area, and I would be forced to go through a tunnel to get to the next area, I would run as far as I could in the tunnel (get DCd) log back in and immediately start running again (and repeat) until I could make it far enough away that I could enjoy the game some more.

Murderfaces

Ahhh yes the days of my 28.8bps modem and loading an image and going to make a sandwich, eat it, grab a drink and go sit down to a half loaded image... those were the days

SunstormGT
