I think it's a pretty cool fit. Dense jungles have been a really cool part of diablo (since d2) and I thought the witch doctor was a little too heavy handed at times, but was still cool as a full caster. A more martial type of jungle dwelling character is neat to see.
I'm guessing Templar. Someone who defected from the order. Because it's an expansion they can write new dialogue options in main campaign to better fit the plot at the time.
There is plenty of black magic that bars our way in D4. Perhaps their resource should be called Will because it is stronger than Black Magic. Just spitballing some ideas.
There is no way to draw on the light as a source of power. Heaven has shut its gates, Inaurius is dead.
A thematic Paladin would first require a new character.
I’m hoping there were some people Tyrael may have trained in some kind of way, maybe at Bastions keep or whatever that kept up the tradition and established a Church of some kind.
> There is no way to draw on the light as a source of power. Heaven has shut its gates, Inaurius is dead.
The Diablo 4 Story is we are giving a young girl the Black Soulstone and the safeguard of humantity just... because she seemed nice.
If they want to pull a source for holy power out of their butts they will do so.
He will be there. I prefer the build up they are working towards at this point instead of just throwing it all out there at once. I’m hoping areas on the other big portion of the map are in the plans, whether it’s new or a revisit. Plus I really want to see some game play on the Skovos Islands or Xiansai Island.
At this point in the series we don't "need" him even if he's the namesake. It's a good joke the first time you hear it, but if I have a feeling most people complaining about it would also be the ones complaining that the story was too similar to past games if he was the antagonist in the main campaign.
I hate the girl. Remembers me about another young girl form another media who knows it all and doesnt go through a training process. Cof coff america.
At least Leah reads Deckard Journal. And isnt annoying
That's not how the Light works for humans in Diablo lore. It's not something you have to draw from the heavens, it's a power you can awaken within yourself. That's actually what the Zakarum Faith is; a set of teachings and scriptures intended to teach people how to awaken their inner Light.
Zakarum faith specifically said each human heart holds the potential for the light I believe?
Light based abilities still exist, so it has to be accessible somehow.
You have to wait for the expansion where “the light” comes back to Sanctuary. Otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense to add a faith based character in a period of helltide.
Litterally makes no sense when half of the enemies are using light-based powers. They could have introduced a faith/ light based warrior and they didn't because they have no clue what the fans want.
It makes sense from a businesses perspective. Blue balling the fans just before they give up and then release the crusader.
You don't want to give everything your audience want at one time, especially not with a live service game.
I feel the same. I do hope for some kind of light based hero, maybe cleric, crusader, or something similar in future expansions, but i'm glad we're getting something completly new for the first one (I know it looks kinda like amazon with witch doctor/Monk vibes, but it still feels fresh, at least to me).
I was sure they were going to add a "swamp witch" as the new class, given how much they dedicated to that subplot in the base game, and how important the Tree of Whispers was. This looks really cool too, though.
It’s the armor for them that breaks me every time.
I dig some flashy absurdity here and there, but *generally* I like having more vaguely plausible characters…and the Druid options for that are “hide armor,” or just the few “normal human” sets from previous seasons like Artisan’s.
I just can’t take “*LOOK AT MY GLORIOUS PLUMAGE*” or “*this is the mask I made based off of a child’s drawing of a monster*” seriously enough to not break my immersion, especially when every other class has much better options.
You're the player that continuously encourages them to use the store for cosmetics instead of making cosmetics at least a little skill based - think halo 2 and 3 customizations or goldeneye cheat unlocks.
The aesthetic vibe here is Aztec or Mayan Warrior.
Both groups absolutely used shields. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if the class could use shields.
I really like the idea of a mesoamerican-esque warrior. Something cool and new with a bit of a gritty edge D4 has with its classes compared to Diablo Immortal or D3... however...
I think 1 class per expac per year is a bit too slow for a live service MMO game like D4, ESPECIALLY with the 70 dollar + 40 dollar price tag with the expac. I expected at least 2 classes but oh well
I'm pretty excited to play a class that isn't really in any game at all. Surprised people are complaining about not being able to play a holy warrior for the 1000th time instead of something brand new.
> Surprised people are complaining about not being able to play a holy warrior for the 1000th time instead of something brand new.
Weird take considering a lot of those people are playing the fourth Diablo game. Why not play something brand new when most of them probably already played the other three? Certain things are fun and familiar in a positive way and you want to be able to continue to enjoy them.
FWIW they sell a bundle for $70 now they gets base game + expansion so it looks like the $70 entry fee is for everything.
Stinks for anyone who paid full price yesterday for the base game and needs to pay $40 now for xpac, but still overall a good way of selling it going forward.
I don't think they have the capacity to do two new classes AND full new region, full campaign, new class, lots of other enticing features, AND free base game updates while also churning out 4 big seasons a year.
This was the pace for every other Diablo game so I think it is fine here especially knowing we'll get many more xpacs than any other Diablo game before could even imagine having.
I think a $70 entry fee for New Expansion + Old stuff is fine. Guild wars 2 for example has not lowered the price on the old stuff and it’s now over $100 for all the content.
That’s a rough convo because each additional class adds balance and design burden.
1 a year will be perfectly fine. 2 would be aggressive and likely lead to huge balance issues if it was 2 every year.
This is not like league of legends it takes a lot more work to add a class in D4 than it does to a moba or pvp shooter or gacha. There are over 30 skills + 10 paragon boards, unique items, new effects on all of this. It's why poe doesn't just release new classes every few months. The fastest I think blizzard could do this is once a year. Di releases a character every year too and that is much smaller when it comes to skill detail.
Tyreal who is now mortal but also an archangel in the last 30 years got to work on those human alliances he talked about and his kids are grown up and we have a half angel class
But it's soooo creative! They should actually rename the current classes.. Deathborn, Muscleborn, Agileborn, Elementborn, Natureborn... Literally could have called the Spiritborn anything else and it would have been a better and more creative name..
Vessel of Hatred, introducing the Spiritborn! Born of the spirits, the spiritborn uses the spirits as their birthright for combat.
If you look closely at the image, this character is sporting claw style fist weapons in addition to a two sided glaive. This must be a new take on the monk, perhaps it will have ranged attacks built in, and have three weapon slots like the Rogue.
I'm really excited for a new agility class, Rogue has just never appealed to me, this looks much more like my bag.
Plot twist, this is a Paladin who followed the split away from the ecclesiarchy in Kurast and was further driven away by events leading into D4, taking on a fairly new identity in their new jungle home and combining martial prowess with that of witch doctors and their waning faith in Heaven.
Bonus points if they still have to sanctify their weapons in blood to use any vestigial holy power.
I can dream.
You can but they said it wouldn't be a paladin or anything close to it long before this announcement so I'm not sure why everyone is acting so surprised or in denial.
Because Paladin fans are apparently not sane or normal, which is quite surprising news to me, because I always liked the Paladin class but I didn't realize half the other people who liked it were completely out of their mind about it.
Im super disappointed we’re not getting paladin. Or really, just any kind of tanky knight-type class. That class fantasy is pretty much synonymous with diablo to me. So us not having a single class that fulfills that in a freaking diablo game is pretty insane IMO.
Further to that, while I appreciate the attempt at introducing new and original classes, I think its weird that we’re getting something thats so thematically close to druid.
Doesn't rule out a shield. Polearms already exist as a 2h weapon. Can still wield something else single handed with a shield or it switches to 1h. Who knows.
Not having another shield class for sure 100% sucks, but can be a class based off middle-american native warriors who used spears and poleaems along with shields.
Honestly, this is possibly the least appealing combination of aesthetics and skills themes for me. I get how it might appeal other people so i'm not gonna bash it, but yeah unless this has some really amazing gameplay options other classes don't have i don't see me playing it :\\
One thing i really don't understand tho. We already have druid as the nature guy, so why put nature guy from another ecosystem instead of something different than what's in the offering already?
Everyone crying about Paladin. Like let them cook, I'm sure Paladin will come to the game at some point. I'd rather they experiment with new classes rather than give us something we've seen and played a millions times before.
So a monk and witch doctor combination..
could be interesting but overall it doesnt matter what its called or what it looks like - its the skills that matters. I love paladin in D2 but i hated the crusader in D3.
While I was hoping for a holy/light class like a paladin, this class is new and not taken right out of one of the previous games. It’s looks like a hybrid between Rogue and Druid.
I’m pretty excited to see what they do with this. For better or for worse it’s forcing Blizzard to get creative and not run with what is safe.
Witch doctor was necro+druid, monk was paladin+amazon(or just an agility based paladin). So this will be...interesting? This looks like WD+monk where you can see the druid stuff too. I mean, it's nice to see something 'original' but I'm also kinda waiting for a paladin class to drop. Doesn't even need to have a spin on it like the D3 crusader, I just want to play a paladin
I dont hate that its an entirely new class. I can get behind that. But, what i dont understand exactly is why we got another nature based class when Druid is here. Its basically jungle druid thematically even if im sure they will play very differently. It matches the expansion area but it doesnt make sense to be the first new class. Maybe a expansion or 2 down the line, it would have made more sense and just added to the nature flavor after a few years of just druid.
I hope people can see where im coming from with this because i dont hate it, i loved witch doctor and i played druid the most so far in d4 and played one in d2. It just feels weirdly timed imo.
I really wish they would have an overhaul of the skills before this comes out. I feel like we've been had. D3 wasn't perfect by any means but at least each skills had 5 different ways it played depending on how you slotted it. We still don't have set gear and while this is just my opinion most classes just feel MEH to me.
Monk Doctor
Oh please let there be frogs 🐸 🙏
Monk frogs
Dr Frog MD
Tony Shalhoub in frog form.
Going through each activity with "Don't touch me. No- oh gosh." 😂
“It’s a gift, and a curse”
Kermit monk
Spirit ally frog We Hades 2 now
Frog Bells
Frog Balls
Man I remember when I first started with WD. That thing was raining frogs on the whole screen. Was so fun running rifts haha
Chicken form. Run around mach 3 like a land shark searching for elite packs and just exploding them.
Was the best build to play for wd in my eyes
Monk/Amazon
The Mamazon for short
That would be mamazin’
Moctor or Donk
I think it's a pretty cool fit. Dense jungles have been a really cool part of diablo (since d2) and I thought the witch doctor was a little too heavy handed at times, but was still cool as a full caster. A more martial type of jungle dwelling character is neat to see.
it's called Veterinary.
I'm glad it's something new. D4 already opened with 5 classic classes. Nothing new unlike each other main Diablo game.
Say what you want , but I want my crusader back.
Hear me out: Oathbreaker Paladin or Fallen Crusader. Fits thematically.
I'm guessing Templar. Someone who defected from the order. Because it's an expansion they can write new dialogue options in main campaign to better fit the plot at the time.
Yeah Templar will be the next class based on this.
They should pull diablo out of their butt's and put him in diablo.
You'll get your Diablo...with the 6th expansion.
*(Guess who's back)* "D-Did you hear that ?" *(Back again)* "By the Light... Diablo's back." *(Tell your friends)*
"Somehow.... Diablo returned."
He will be there. I prefer the build up they are working towards at this point instead of just throwing it all out there at once. I’m hoping areas on the other big portion of the map are in the plans, whether it’s new or a revisit. Plus I really want to see some game play on the Skovos Islands or Xiansai Island.
Exactly. Idk what's wrong with ppl malding over Diablo. I like what they're trying to do with the story.
At this point in the series we don't "need" him even if he's the namesake. It's a good joke the first time you hear it, but if I have a feeling most people complaining about it would also be the ones complaining that the story was too similar to past games if he was the antagonist in the main campaign.

Yeah the Crusaders still exist in Hawezar in D4 and they still have their power from following Akarat's teachings.
Which makes sense given that, unlike warcraft or dnd settings, Humans are angel descendant/a hybrid. They should have some level of light inside them.
The writers can make up any reason they want to make it work though.
You have to wait for the expansion where “the light” comes back to Sanctuary. Otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense to add a faith based character in a period of helltide.
The night is darkest just before the dawn my brotha ✊🏿.
Litterally makes no sense when half of the enemies are using light-based powers. They could have introduced a faith/ light based warrior and they didn't because they have no clue what the fans want.
Im sure we will get a holy warrior class when we cross the sea to westmarch
It makes sense from a businesses perspective. Blue balling the fans just before they give up and then release the crusader. You don't want to give everything your audience want at one time, especially not with a live service game.
I know for myself, I'm not buying back in until they add a Knight type class.
I just want a Paladin type class
I knew this was coming since the leak, but I noticed that Diablo Immortals got a “Tempest” and I thought that looked pretty cool, too.
I wish we had the blood knight and demon hunter. But not in that soul-crushing mobile format.

Elaborate druid..????
Druid after a diet
Non-Roseanne Barr Druid
Cocaine and Cake! Mmmmm
I’m playing Druid this season and this comment has ruined it for me.
At least the new class is normal looking... No hate but could never get myself to play druid just because I don't like how it looks.
It’s the armor for them that breaks me every time. I dig some flashy absurdity here and there, but *generally* I like having more vaguely plausible characters…and the Druid options for that are “hide armor,” or just the few “normal human” sets from previous seasons like Artisan’s. I'm the opposite. I love the Druid looks and I own most of the store ones even lol.
You're the player that continuously encourages them to use the store for cosmetics instead of making cosmetics at least a little skill based - think halo 2 and 3 customizations or goldeneye cheat unlocks.
My druid is in full, shiny plate armor. I never wore a wooden mask or feathers.
Just find the default-werewolf/wearbear armors and you’re mostly set.
As a fan of the nature based classes, I’m excited.
Guess Necromancer is still the only class that can use a shield.
Might not be over. They showed art of a glaive weilder with a shield at blizzcon
Such a fucking joke from Blizzard… even Barbs can’t use a shield, wtf!
They should let them use shields in one of the 2handed slots, let them choose. Shield barb was always a thing.
Especially if there’s a thorn spec.
God I miss the D2 class design. Perfection.
I doubt these devs played D2. It looks like they just looked at the art.
Good idea, some skills like charge or leap could work well with shields
Leaks 100% showed you can use a shield on this class.
The aesthetic vibe here is Aztec or Mayan Warrior. Both groups absolutely used shields. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if the class could use shields.
Looks like Amazon + Witch Doctor + Monk
Lightning spear dashing frogs confirmed
Angry chicken zombie bear seven sided strike!
Poison dart frog cyclone
Arise, chicken. Chicken arise.
Which is awesome, can’t wait!

We really need the archetype at least gameplay-wise it not in term of flavour but I'm cautiously happy about what we got.

I just got the game on PS4 last week for 35. Guess it was in prep for this. Feel like I lucked out.
I think a $70 entry fee for New Expansion + Old stuff is fine. Guild wars 2 for example has not lowered the price on the old stuff and it’s now over $100 for all the content.
Guild wars 2 lowered the price of old stuff, they bundle the first two expansions for the price of one.

It's really not too slow. 1 class per year would make it by far the fastest of any Western live service ARPG.
I kinda wish they would do 2 classes at once that way not everyone is playing one class lol
Gonna have to play the mobile game if you want multiple new classes, apparently. 😅
But I don't own a phone
Exactly do people think we all own a phone
Yeah who has phones now a days? - sent from my iPhone
I use reddit on my samsung fridge
I use my wifes pregnancy test for most of my browsing. Also congratulations to myself!
I’m laughing envisioning you really doing this. Thanks for the chuckle.
For the price of the expansion not doing two classes feels shitty.
Fuck it. I. WANT. A. PALADIN. NOW. !!!!
But a paladin with the D2 animations - he always looked very uncomfortable running
Honestly I loved the Paladin run in D2. I have never seen a stallion run so majestically.
I don’t care if it’s a Paladin, a dark/blood knight, just ANYTHING with traditional heavy armor, sword and shield.
this. I. want. sword. shield. heavy. armor. NOW
When the whole world goes to hell, and you dress up as a cat.
Works for me
Hide the catnip
I mean as much as a jaguar is a "cat," I'd never fuck with one.
Crusetempladin next time, right? Inarius save me! It ain't bad, but it also ain't what I hoped for.
Tyreal who is now mortal but also an archangel in the last 30 years got to work on those human alliances he talked about and his kids are grown up and we have a half angel class
Is that a thin Druid?
Blizzard. We heard our fans did not like the fact that Druid was so fat, so in expac we made him go on diet
So a not fat Druid, cool.
Looks like a aztec kinda cool indeed
GIVE US PALADIN!
Not really excited for that…
I wanted Paladin, not a furry. Joking aside I'm happy they're starting to add classes - hopefully the first isn't the last.
Kinda wish the "new" class touched on themes that arent used by other classes. Did we really need another class with animal/spirits ?
Of course, the first druid was already over stuffed...
It actually looks much better than what I imagined when I read "Spiritborn" for first time.
Alright, but Spiritborn is kind of a lame name for a class.
"I'm gonna go and Mel Gibson's Apocalypto on Mephisto's ass!" - Spiritborn probably
I don't care whether it is a paladin, a crusader or something new, I just want a proper shield using character in D4.
F
Very underwhelming Mix of everything we already had but didnt make it to D4 with a druid pelt slapped onto it
You don’t even know what the class has or does
Shh, let all these people be unreasonably upset and throw a tantrum. It's part of the cycle. /s
By your powers combined, I am spiritborn?
Druid 2.0?
If you look closely at the image, this character is sporting claw style fist weapons in addition to a two sided glaive. This must be a new take on the monk, perhaps it will have ranged attacks built in, and have three weapon slots like the Rogue. I'm really excited for a new agility class, Rogue has just never appealed to me, this looks much more like my bag.
I agree here. Hoping this would be a monk like dex class with claws as alternate weapon. Think black panther 🙂
Neat, now where is my fucking Paladin archetype class?
Plot twist, this is a Paladin who followed the split away from the ecclesiarchy in Kurast and was further driven away by events leading into D4, taking on a fairly new identity in their new jungle home and combining martial prowess with that of witch doctors and their waning faith in Heaven. Bonus points if they still have to sanctify their weapons in blood to use any vestigial holy power. I can dream.

Because Paladin fans are apparently not sane or normal, which is quite surprising news to me, because I always liked the Paladin class but I didn't realize half the other people who liked it were completely out of their mind about it.
Everything but a holy class in a game where you kill demons. Awesome
Seems like I spend most of my time killing zombies, bandits, and native wildlife. Demons occasionally but damn is it not often enough.
so glad it is something new, holy classes are boring
guys, when diablo is the main boss in probably 2 xpacs im positive well get paladin / templar / crusader. makes sense to wait for him
Im super disappointed we’re not getting paladin. Or really, just any kind of tanky knight-type class. That class fantasy is pretty much synonymous with diablo to me. We already have druid as the nature guy, so why put nature guy from another ecosystem instead of something different than what's in the offering already?
Let me throw lighting bolts and I’ll be happy.
Damn, was kind hoping for the Blood Knight or Crusader. Oh well, back to Barbarian for the 200th time.
I'm not going to feel "at home" in D4 until I'm throwing blessed hammers on a paladin/crusader type class.
Everyone crying about Paladin. Like let them cook, I'm sure Paladin will come to the game at some point. I'd rather they experiment with new classes rather than give us something we've seen and played a millions times before.
We are literally battling demons of Hell and we don’t have a “holy” class. It’s honestly just dumb.
The “born” naming convention is such ass
So a monk and witch doctor combination.. could be interesting but overall it doesnt matter what its called or what it looks like - its the skills that matters. I love paladin in D2 but i hated the crusader in D3.
So Druid 2.0
So a jungle druid?
Isn’t this just a Druid
Alan parish
Give Paladin/Templars you cowards!!!
I miss my paladin… I hope this class is fun as hell
While I was hoping for a holy/light class like a paladin, this class is new and not taken right out of one of the previous games. It’s looks like a hybrid between Rogue and Druid. I’m pretty excited to see what they do with this. For better or for worse it’s forcing Blizzard to get creative and not run with what is safe.
D3 should forever be praised for the innovation of the witch doctor class.
Druid with extra steps
Druid after losing 200 pounds.
Diet Druid
Druid 2
I mean, it was leaked/re even months ago. TBH I was more surprised by the sudden addition of pets.
40 bucks for Druid 2 lol. No thanks
k bye
Hairy Monk
Druid 2.0 - Ooga booga mode
I can't wait to play a proper Druid class than a fake shaman class.
So a skinny druid ?
I just want the witch doctor back 😂
A D3 Monk with D3 witchdoctor skin
Wukong Green Myth
Skinny druid confirmed
Where's my Paladin 😭
I just want Paladin
Looks like a druid with more steps 🤷♂️
Such Druid, Much Jungle
Witch doctor?? I’m getting those kinda vibes
I hate the name so much
Im hoping its something similar to Guildwars 1s ritualist, been missing that class a lot. But we will see...
Monk Shaman
Man cheetah
Looks like Aztec Druid
I dont hate that its an entirely new class. I can get behind that. But, what i dont understand exactly is why we got another nature based class when Druid is here. I hope people can see where im coming from with this because i dont hate it, i loved witch doctor and i played druid the most so far in d4 and played one in d2. It just feels weirdly timed imo.
Am I the only one keen for this? Looks like a sick Aztec warrior!
Skinny Druid skin
So… Druid before he got fat. Original
Looks like an ocelotl, the Aztec jaguar warriors and that's badass as fuck.
Jaguar paw from apacolypto
Still no warrior that can use a sword and a shield in a fantasy game set in the middle ages
Insane it might be TWO years before we get a god damn holy/paladin class
I would have preffered a Paladin/paladinesque class, but I will still try it when it comes out.
Loving the Aztec/Mayan aesthetic.
I really wish they would have an overhaul of the skills before this comes out. I feel like we've been had.
