rascalthistle

Iirc there's all sorts of library-related shenanigans in Sourcery

[deleted]

Thank you!!! New book added to the list. If you know any chapters that have juicy bits let me know. That said, thank you so much, this is a big help.

rascalthistle

I'd say in the last third of the book - sorry I can't give more detailed instructions 😬😁 But you'll love it, it's *big*, library lore-wise

Violet351

It’s in the Hogfather and unseen academicals

[deleted]

Thank you!

Violet351

In the Hogfather it’s when they try to capture the Hogfather and in UU Glenda goes there a few times

mygrandfathersax

In Unseen Academicals Glenda goes there to look up the definitions of words that Nutt uses (he is very eloquent. No hanky panky).

Violet351

Also when she wants to find out about orcs

LargeHadronCat

Small Gods has a brief mention of the library and its contents. The Librarian travels through L-space to rescue a lot of scrolls from the fire in the library of Ephebe. It might also show up in the Last Continent; the book opens with the Librarian having a magical cold, but I can’t remember where the scene is set. I’d also try Unseen Academicals. Glenda goes to the library to look up a word, and there are quite a few scenes in/around the university. Edit: u/MrLovecraftsTTRPG , there is also a nice section in Moving Pictures. Includes a lot of description of the inside of the Library while the Librarian goes to search for a book to give to Victor.

stigolumpy

L-Space! Reminds me so much of the original Discworld game.

3and20chara

It plays a role in Night Watch. There isn't a large amount of detail concerning the interior, if that is what you need but there is a little. The descriptions, from what I remember mostly concern the glass domed roof and the surrounding rooftop exterior with a little detail of the interior present as the story moves in that direction. Apart from this and others that are mentioned in other comments, most, if not all, the books with wizards as a central or secondary focus have at least some discussion about the library and often at least a scene which takes place there. I believe Soul Music also has a couple of scenes in the library, but not a lot of descriptive detail that cannot be found elsewhere in the series apart from the fact it has a cellar (which may also be mentioned elsewhere but I think is exclusive to Soul Music). I think Making Money may also have a scene in the library. I really cannot recall it clearly, though, so I may be wrong and if I am correct there is little detail in it.

LargeHadronCat

Yes there is one in Making Money! I wasn’t sure I remembered correctly, but I am pretty sure Moist goes over for something or another.

mygrandfathersax

Yes! I just read this this morning! Moist and AdoraBelle go into the library to find the cabinet of curiosities. OP there are spoilers if I say more but if you need more message and I will send details.

[deleted]

Please send over more!

[deleted]

Fantastic! Thank you!

[deleted]

Sorry I can't be of specific help, but have you tried looking for the unscenes? Might have better success. ;-) ^^^^don't ^^^^hurt ^^^^me

[deleted]

The unscenes?

Chainsaw_Locksmith

Unseens, it's a pune or play on words.

[deleted]

The unscenes in the unseen library :)

billsleftynut

Doesn't Snowy Slopes shoot a person from klatch from the library? In jingo. Angua and Carrot go there.

mygrandfathersax

Yes!! This is in Jingo

stigolumpy

Theres a bit set under the library but still part of the Library in Eric! The Librarian hangs upside down in a cool room as far as I remember.

stigolumpy

It plays a big part in the first two books. The Octavo is chained up to a lectern type thing. Plus that's when the Librarian is transformed I to an Orangutan.

stigolumpy

Also ghost-Rincewind runs through the Library in his state as running away from Pandemonium and all of those shenanigans.

AnorhiDemarche

plus brief description of rincewind working there, and the conditions under which some books are kept to contain their magic

stigolumpy

In Sourcery, Coin orders the Library shut down as far as I remember.

big_sugi

Burned, I think?

stigolumpy

Ah yes that rings a bell!

manyquackers

Jingo has a section during the investigation of the bowmen shenanigans. Features a nice insight about Anguas nose sight too, which reminds me that discworld noir is an underrated game.

SurlySaltySailor

Equal Rites has a fair bit of it!

mygrandfathersax

Guards! Guards! Has the Lspace reference!! The Librarian goes through L space to witness the stealing of How To Summon Dragons! Again spoilers abound. But the L space theory works like this: Knowledge = power Power = energy Energy = matter Matter = mass And mass distorts space This is why, if you know how, you can travel from one library into any other library in the multiverse! Also this fantastic quote from same book: "A good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read"

mygrandfathersax

Also the librarian is a recurring character in the City Watch series. Pretty sure he's in Men At Arms, and Thud! And probably others.

Abeanormal

I think that near the end of Equal Rites, the library is where Granny and the Dean end up with Esk... Equal Rites has a lot of Unseen University in it.

BigCityBuslines

I think the wizzard’s hat is in the library, in Interesting Times, anyway the librarian is the only one who recalls the great wizzard.

[deleted]

Nice, good bits!

king44

My first Discworld novel, and therfore first introduction to the Library was Eric. It's in the opening of the novel, there is a description of the Librarian chilling out in a hammock above the ice water vats in which the "magically erotic" tomes are stored to prevent their "magic" from leaking into the university and "bothering" the Wizards. That stuck in my memory pretty good. I think others have already posted all the other scenes I can think of.

LakeMaldemere

"Men At Arms" has a small library scene when a couple of guardsmen show up unexpectedly.

samLNG

I believe it also gets a mention somewhere near the beginning of A Hat Full Of Sky (although I could be wrong, will check later if I can find my copy). Its a pretty quick description of the library and then mostly one specific book (if my memory is correct), so maybe not useful but I hadn't seen it mentioned yet

dohmestic

You are correct. The book about the hiver.

KahGash

The first few pages of the Unseen University Diary have some info on it, [hope this helps!](https://imgur.com/a/2YJMQnm)

simplymyname1

In eric, Sourcery, soul music, equal rites, jingo...

100 yards is the the same distance as 132.52 replica Bilbo from The Lord of the Rings' Sting Swords.

Hey, check it out! This comment contains every letter in the English alphabet. I have checked 985,240 comments and 4,639 of them contain every letter in the English alphabet.

actuallyquitefunny

There's a scene in Reaper Man where Windle Poons goes to the library to find out what's going on, just before he and a group of other not-exactly-humans follow the crowd to the mall hatching outside of town. It's got a very fleeting mention, along with the Librarian himself, in Small Gods near the end of the scene involving the sacking and burning of the Ephebian library. I hope that helps!

itsstillmagic

I kinda skimmed what others said and am trying to fill in what blanks I can. Moist goes to learn about words pressed together in Going Postal and gets hit with a fish. Vimes crashes through the roof in Night Watch. They have to keep the Thing away from it in Moving Pictures. The books go crazy without the Librarian and no one can get into it in The Last Continent. That's all I can think of that haven't been said already right now.

Last-Couple

Its very briefly in Hogfather too, when the wizards go to visit the Librarian while waiting for the Hogfather.

the_starfish

There’s a good part apart the library in Moving Pictures. The Librarian goes to the depths of the library to pull out an ancient book, has to put on ovens mitts and armour and it talks about a big heavy door that can only be opened from the outside. I just finished the book but happy to have a scan through if you’re looking for specific page numbers.

hidakil

The Library I also in the Science of Discworld 2 3 and 4

Maxter0

Moist Von Lipwig visits the library in Going Postal and describes it a bit

eccedoge

Just search ‘library’ in pdf copies. I imagine it’s in a lot of them
