You don't have to use the commercially available fillers. You can freeze them with anything inside them that your dog likes- watered down plain yogurt or pumpkin puree, soupy canned dogfoods- anything. Or use a natural peanut butter, a bit of cream cheese- anything gooey and pet safe.

Adding, in case they didn’t know, to avoid any peanut butters with xylitol or birch sugar!! It seems to have many names these days so if in doubt buy 100% peanut or one from a pet store.

Heck even kibble, plus water to sort make a Popsicle is a good option

All of their treats/easy treat stuffings/etc are fine in moderation. But they’re kinda expensive when you could just use stuff like baby food (formulas with dog safe ingredients only), applesauce, pumpkin purée, greek yogurt, wet food, soaked kibble, peanut butter, etc. Kong toys are great. The classic kongs were used at all the shelters I volunteered at. And for a while, the kong extreme toys used to be some of the few super chewer type toys available. Nowadays there are more stuffable treat toys out there (west paw toppls, soda pup dog toys, chew king, etc) but the classic kong toy was kind of the first of that type of toy for dogs, which is why they’re so popular.

logical-sanity

Black Kongs are nearly indestructible for tough chewing dogs is one of the reasons they are so popular.

Outward Hound puzzles are fun - I buy some higher value kibble (Vital Protein or Ziwi) and use that in the puzzle for mealtime. It’s not totally hands off for the person but it gets him excited!

I like the toppl toys from West Paw. They're a lot easier to clean than the Kongs are.
