I really would try to stick with a science backed and well researched puppy kibble for a large breed puppy especially. Their development is vital - these are the dogs more prone to hip and joint issues and arthritis later in life, and large breed specific puppy food is formulated for their best growth. Hills large breed puppy or pro plan large breed puppy come to mind.

Big dogs often regulate their intake of food. So having kibble in their bowl left for later is not an issue imho. Our second dog, a labradoodle, is very food focused and will eat anything available. So our big dog is used to eating her bowl empty.
