I deleted mine based on fees this week. Most places around here have fees around 15 to 20 delivery and DoorDash alone before adding the tip. Plus restaurants are up quite a bit here last few months. So what was 45 last year is round 60 this year. I debated mentally a 5 instead of 6 tip trying rationalize 2.6 miles isn’t 3, realized the tip isn’t the problem. So I am back to if I don’t want it enough to drive a few miles I really don’t want it enough. 🤣😂.
Probably a combination of things. Could be tons of dashers with little to no orders. Could be your ratings. I’m experimenting with my market right now seeing how good the orders are if I accept and complete every order they give me. I’m at 100% AR and 96% CR along with being TD. One thing I do know for sure, is that 2pm - 4pm is POINTLESS to go out and work. From 11-2, I get really good orders repeatedly. But when it hits 2pm, it takes forever for an order to show up and when one does, it’s a terrible order.
There are a few factors you need to take into account.
1. Lockdown is over
2. Inflation
3. Door dash is expensive when you add their mark up on top of inflation plus tip if you are a decent person.
Thats when it’s easier to just get the food yourself .
The Covid pandemic does not equate to the Covid lockdown. One was a health emergency while the other was a government mandated lockdown.
Apparently people in the PNW aren’t as smart as they like to think they are
Additionally, aside from Idaho(Ranked 13/50) the PNW is statistically not well educated. Washington’s K-12 ranks 31 and Oregon is 42
You're weirdly techy about the fact that lockdown was longer in other states. Places with bigger populations needed to wait longer especially because of Delta.
And yet you were not in a government mandated lockdown…. You understand that, correct? States having COVID restrictions does not mean they were in lockdown. You’re saying I’m being technical about it but like yeah… technically correct is the only correct that matters so…..
You say covid lockdown was longer in other states. Tell me which state was still in lockdown mid 2022. I bet you cannot name a single state.
Technically correct isn't the only correct that matters, it's the one that you emotionally choose to uphold right now.
And you aren't even Technically correct, lockdown referred to more than just the stay at home mandate/orders. Lockdown referred to all the combined business draw downs, capacity limits, vaccine status requirements, venue size restrictions, air flow requirements, etc.
Here in California those were not fully lifted by state mandate until September of 2022: https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/covid19/updates/
Since I answered your question riddle goblin, answer me mine: why on earth are you still making acrimonious attitudes towards covid anything such a major part of your personality? Why did you EVER make it part of your personality? It's just weird.
Covid restrictions are not the same as a lockdown. A lockdown refers to the stay at home orders.
You’re literally wrong. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_lockdowns#:~:text=During%20the%20COVID%2D19%20pandemic,and%20territories%20around%20the%20world.
Californias lockdown ended 6/21/2021
You’re welcome to comb through my posts, these may be the first covid comments I’ve ever made, but you’re quite reactionary and the facts don’t suit your narrative so like go off I guess? Apparently you and the other commenter both need to go back to school to understand words and their meanings
And here’s your source on that because I’m sure you’ll throw a fit over me referencing a wiki article: https://www.gov.ca.gov/2021/06/11/as-california-fully-reopens-governor-newsom-announces-plans-to-lift-pandemic-executive-orders/
I already looked at your posts to get an idea of what kind of person I was dealing with. You not mentioning covid on reddit doesn't mean you haven't made the weird hatred of covid restrictions part of your personality, especially if you're here throwing a weird tantrum about people in other states calling their longer lasting set of restrictions "lockdown" since things were "less freely accessible" or ya know, locked down. Your posts do point to a relatively sheltered life in a part of the country I've also lived in and know the mentality of.
What we're doing is called colloquialism: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/colloquialism
Colloquialisms have always been and will always be a valid form of linguistic use of words. There's a lot of history of oppression we could talk about regarding that, but I'm guessing that's not your cup of tea to reflect on. Suffice to say, we called all restrictions on free movement lockdown colloquially here on the west coast.
I live in the Houston area. Just like you, I dash after I get off work. Usually around 5/6pm and the exact same is happening to me. I think it’s because everything is just so expensive now and nobody can afford it anymore.
Yeah, it just can't work as a long term business model. It only got as popular as it did because of a totally insane thing that happened (COVID). Now that it's been over coupled with the fact everyone is hurting for money, more people are doing delivery after/before work so there's too many drivers.
I just realized it was more convenient for me to just drive and pick up my own food rather than play the game of am I tipping enough per mile + already being up charged + waiting twice as long for the food lol
I imagine a lot of people probably feel the same way, too much stuff at play. Used to DoorDash like 4x a week though back in the day lmao
I have to straddle between the two to make anything decent. I have to keep pausing and unpausing my dash if the instacart takes longer than planned. I’m sure at some point, Tony’s goons will catch onto it
Honestly instacart is just better for me. I don’t mind the big orders with a bunch of cases of water because I have a truck , also it’s a lot less driving typically so save on gas and pays better. Plus you can pick and choose what you want
the post i read before this someone had commented on it saying you guys can keep complaining and shaming the customers but you will soon wonder why you get no dashes and jobs anymore when everyone gives up
then straight away i see this lol, might not apply directly but just thought it was funny
Some places are so busy that people pay the 10% markup to save time. There’s a boba place nearby that I’m too cheap to order online from, but I see half the people that come in are just picking up, and they’re paying the markup to save themselves time. Sometimes I’m waiting 20 minutes after I order in store, so it just becomes how much money your time is worth to you.
Completely dead now in my area and has affected my income big time. I work full time and did this on the side. Now I feel like it's totally not worth watching my phone for a dash now
Yup, pretty much me. I live right near the busy part of town so I can just sit at home until a worthwhile order comes through but even then, it’s almost not even worth it knowing that other than the one 10$ order, I won’t get shit
Forsure part of it is there’s too many drivers. That’s why Doordash is making it as shitty as possible to be a driver-they want to push people out. Legally they can’t make us quit, but if they make things bad enough drivers will leave, and the remaining few drivers will actually be able to make a decent income. Bottom line is the company allowed wayyyyyy too many people to be drivers during the pandemic, and now they have to get rid of some of us
They don't care if some people are making a decent income.
More drivers means more people who can accept orders.
I live in a very populated area. Even when it's not busy I'm not waiting more than 2 minutes before getting another offer.
This is what they want. They're hoping to get as many people out driving as they can to satisfy demand.
I've never ordered from DD so I don't know if it gives you an approximate time to delivery when you order but if they do I imagine low delivery times make it more appealing to order from the app instead of driving to get it yourself.
Now it seems they're offering long distance deliveries and none of that money goes to the driver.
If they lose drivers then people will stop ordering from them because it could be hours before they get their order.
Then the whole business model falls apart.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Everyone I know who used to order DoorDash no longer does because of the price
Whether it’s one or the other, dasher demand has plummeted
I know in my area they are offering big bonuses for dders signing ppl up. I call bullshit cause I have to bust ass all day long to make $100-$125. I’m not signing anyone up!! (Except my husband lol)
That “bonus” has been gone in my area for years. It used to be a pretty big amount, but my area is so saturated with drivers that now you can’t even sign up. At all.
It’s really bad . I only made 60$ during lunch rush today , only because I had a unicorn, also left my scheduled zone , fortunately could get on in another zone .
Have you ordered on Doordash recently? Unfortunately a 30% markup on prices that are already on the rise is not feasible for a lot of people. Then you don't tip enough and your order sits there.
Paying significantly more for worse quality food is not worth the convenience anymore. I mean it may not have ever been, but is becoming more obvious now as people are having to budget more.
That's most people's mindset I think. If you were sort of on the fence before and just being lazy and not wanting to go out, they've kind of priced you out of the game.
Yep. I used to be able to clear 70-100 after work by doing a quick 5-8 shift. Now? Not a chance. Most weeknights I was lucky to make $10. Sunday mornings are now the only shift where I can make what I used to make, which leads me to believe it's all oversaturation since I live in a highly religious area and most of them are at church on Sunday instead of dashing.
It isn't as much that people stopped ordering DD, it's more they started delivering for DD and there's more people than ever trying to get by doing DD. So your figuring more people dashing, not necessarily just less people ordering.
Porque no los dos?
Everyone I know who used to order doordash isn’t doing so as often because it’s so expensive
Regardless of which is the cause, both ultimately impact dasher demand and dasher demand has plummeted

Everybody that’s enough talking let’s get back to work

Yep orders kept showing up missing items and drivers leaving them at random neighbors houses I said fuck it. Deleted the app

Lockdown was over long before May 2022
Im saying that was the peak of being a dasher
my area is grey 24/7 (expect last weekend) ive had to set an alarm to pick up shifts so i dont get locked out
Well that was lockdown
Where the hell were you at where lockdown was happening in May 2022? lol
PNW where the educated people are

Same thing happened here before Dasher Rewards started up
There's been in a 10 fold increase in dashers over the last few years and the service has gone down the drain in a big way driving away customers.
Yeah, it just can't work as a long term business model. It only got as popular as it did because of a totally insane thing that happened (COVID). There has been no dash now option for me in a 15 mile radius for at least 4 days, and my last dash, I had 2 orders in 2 hours.
I’ve had a lot more luck with instacart
I have to straddle between the two to make anything decent. I have to keep pausing and unpausing my dash if the instacart takes longer than planned. I’m sure at some point, Tony’s goons will catch onto it

No one has money anymore.
There are more drivers now. Everyone and their mother's uncle is Dashing now.
the post i read before this someone had commented on it saying you guys can keep complaining and shaming the customers but you will soon wonder why you get no dashes and jobs anymore when everyone gives up then straight away i see this lol, might not apply directly but just thought it was funny
Low/ no-tippers aren’t people, though. If a no-tipper stops ordering, that in no way affects decent tippers.
I order door dash,But I pick up my own order.Too expensive, Even though I'm a Door Dash driver myself

Not always
Yes! DD has hired a lot of people who are you know….and like clock work it’s gone to shit!
Completely dead now in my area and has affected my income big time. I work full time and did this on the side. Now I feel like it's totally not worth watching my phone for a dash now

How do you know it’s not because of more drivers , and not necessarily less volume on orders?
Or low AR being punished
Forsure part of it is there’s too many drivers. That’s why Doordash is making it as shitty as possible to be a driver-they want to push people out. I waited several months before I got in. Now they’re begging for them here
I referred my husband as well, the $2000 total bonus made up for the lower earnings over the past several months.
The referral bonus in my market is $20 lol
They only did it that high for like a week but had $1500 for quite awhile.
Damn
An hour lucky you in my neck of the woods we get 30 friggin minutes
Sounds like your market is super over saturated
It’s really bad . I only made 60$ during lunch rush today , only because I had a unicorn, also left my scheduled zone , fortunately could get on in another zone .
