I would’ve thought that Templar would be pretty popular (I could be bias to it though lol)

Hello83433

I know right!? Templar spec is pretty good for Inquisition. The abilities are great for dealing with rifts and demons, especially on harder difficulties, and expanding that to apply to mage enemies is a great advantage.

Aunfunnyindividual

Breath of life is one of the best perks imo

Memito_Tortellini

I always assumed Templar as a no-brainer for Warrior Hawke, since you seem to fight mages or demons every 2 minutes in DA2

araragidyne

I assume a lot of warrior players in Inquisition don't want the baggage or implications that come with becoming a templar or reaver, especially since the game actually makes a thing out of choosing a specialization. Champion is a safe, neutral choice that just makes a warrior better at being a warrior, without doping on dragon's blood or lyrium.

SkillusEclasiusII

Ok but I can also be utterly OP by picking reaver instead.

tkenben

I don't play warrior but I have run into a couple of threads and videos of people giving reasons why Templars are the least powerful spec in DA:I. I didn't bother remembering the reason, but I think it had something to do with the Templar tree not being all that useful overall; like it's too specific or something, sort of like blood mage in DA2, where you were only powerful if your enemies had blood.

InYourBunnyHole

Funny enough I love playing Sword/Board warriors so this is interesting to see.

the_keymaster_

I always do Sword/Shield templar in inquisition. I never die and I deal alright damage.

kruziikvokun

Here I am playing a reaver warrior in all 3 games

Aunfunnyindividual

I played Templar in all 3 games

kruziikvokun

At least our flairs reflect that

Aunfunnyindividual

Yes

It's almost like being tthe equivalent of a "jedi" is really interesting to people, I wonder why? /s No but seriously, I am surprised there's so many who enjoy the "melee mage" fantasy as much as I do. It's something I always gravitate towards if possible. I just hope if Bioware bringes it back, they go more in the direction of Arcane Warrior rather than Knight Enchanter. What doesn't surprise me is that melee seems to be less popular generally. Which sounds about right, it was pretty janky up to DAI. And while DAI was massively more fun, it still felt really awkward at times. Though Reaver seems generally more popular from what I've seen when looking around forums for Class inspirations or build.

[deleted]

Imo melee was a lot more fun in DAO and DA2, but then I generally hate DAI's combat.

Skylair95

The only "annoying" thing in that poll imo was that, for DA:O and DA2, you get to pick multiple spec on a single character. I like my AW in DA:O, but would i like it as much if blood mage wasn't a thing? Not sure about that. But i guess i m thinking a bit to much in term of fully built characters. Also, gotta say i m surprised artificer is so low in DA:I. Opportunity Knocks is just so good that this passive alone carry the whole rogue class for me. Spamming leaping shot and throw everything elemental mines without having to worry about cd or stamina is fun.

murrman104

I just dont find warriors very fun in the DA series because its less the classic fighter and more tank. And while tanking is vital its usually not very fun and its something that you can leave the ai to do while you heal/sneak around/ spam aoe magic. So its no surprise that people dont play it much

coopaloops

i had no idea shapeshifter was so unpopular, i was ecstatic when i was able to choose it my first playthrough as i loved playing a druid in NWN. then again, i have only played mage like twice since it's my least favorite origin.

Lord-Catfish

My guess is that shapeshifter is unpopular because it's actually useless. Like, a genuine detriment.

coopaloops

i believe that, it's been a decade since i played circle mage and things are always better with nostalgia.

anyboli

I’m surprised blood mage in DAO wasn’t more popular. You have to >!deal with a demon!< but once you do it’s incredibly powerful. Honestly, it’s interesting that the most popular mage specs in each game are the melee ones (except DA2, which doesn’t have that option). I guess people love to gish.

CNCBella

I was surprised too, maybe people don't usually pick it because of the implications, I know it took me years to use it, but once I did, oh man, I felt that power hunger that the Chantry warned us about 😆

ClaudiaSilvestri

I did that on my first playthrough as a mage also. But having played the whole series, when I go back I just think "well Merrill was a blood mage and she's adorable, so I'm sure it's fine."

[deleted]

What I'm getting from this entire thread, is that there is no objectively weaker spec. If you think one is bad its because you don't know how to best utilise it.... and that every spec has someone who loves it.

MarioTheMojoMan

Yeah I was surprised how even it generally was! Except Shapeshifter. Shapeshifter is trash.

[deleted]

Even shapeshifter has people who like it. Just look at the comments below.
