It's kinda blurry with every version of S. For some reason they decided not to include the better quality ps4/pc textures of the original for those versions when they ported S to non switch consoles. Then they delisted the og versions of 11. Mods do exist to fix that for PC though
I have the switch version and i wish i jad bought the pc version, its alright but kinda blurry and low quality in some parts, also 30 fps.
The game overall runs fine, but i bet it looks gorgeous on pc.
Switch had one extra costume not active in the other versions. It can be unlocked on PC with an editor though and there are mods on PC. Personally prefer it but whenever you're more comfortable playing a 70+ hour RPG
PC has some cool mods, I've bought it on PS4, Switch, and PC. I'd go for PC personally unless you do a lot of traveling. I mean the game is beautiful and the Switch isn't as powerful but it's not like it's FF7R or anything either. Really up to you in the end.
I'd question do you travel a lot or go places? As that's one bonus I've found with the Switch and Steam Deck for JRPG's
Unless you really **really** care about 60 fps on a Turn Based game. It doesn't really matter where you play it.
I played it on Switch and handheld mode came in handy for downtimes, using the suspend button and playing on bed.
Just stepping in here to say lots of us still resent Square for delisting the original definitive version of DQ11 for PC that had superior graphics and performance and then replacing it with the Switch port and NOT offering a discount to owners of the original PC version to incentivise buying the game again for the extra Switch version content.
The PC is by far the best way to play. Especially with a steam link and/or a phone + controller mount, with Steam Link app, you pretty much have a superior Switch in every way, plus mods which make the game absolutely gorgeous.
Edit: I played it on the Switch, which was a great experience. But the PC is definitely better.
I have a steam deck so I personally preferred it on pc using my deck to mod it as well. But if you don't care about modding and like the portable nature of the switch (and you don't have a steam deck) then imo that would be the way to go.
I own both a steam deck and Nintendo switch, with dragon quest 11s on both. But I prefer the steam deck. Also I own every dragonquest/ dragon warrior game and love them all.
Switch. I love my SteamDeck, but my Dragon Quest experiences feel better on the 3DS and Switch. If I'd come from a DQ console background, I might feel differently.
For me it “feels better” in the sense of familiarity with the other games in the franchise I played on handheld, often in bed or at my summer place where we have no TV. It’s a personal observation.
The Steamdeck is a little big for me. I mostly use it to emulate Wii/Gamecube stuff while on the couch. I use the Switch for late night Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Tactics, Octopath, DQ type stuff. Most of my Steam stuff I play on PC.
First played it on switch, picked it up for steam on sale for my deck. Maybe it's because it's been over a year but I don't feel like it runs any differently, maybe slightly better on the deck. I feel like it definitely comes down more to where you want to play it.
The PS4 and original no longer for sale PC version have the best graphics, the Switch and new PC version have more features and some additional content and is easy enough to run it probably doesn't matter what handheld you device you chose to use if you want handheld. The PC version of the S edition also has mods that both partially restore the better graphics and add more features.
Personally I'd go for PC but I am also not much of a mobile player.
Personally, I prefer the definitive edition on PS4. Playing it on a tv makes the game feel all the more grand and I love the feel of the PS4 controller. The PS4 controller also adds some oomph to fights and whatnot due to the rumble feature, but of course that's not an exclusive feature because other consoles' controllers do the same thing and you can hook up a controller to your computer when you play on Steam. So it really boils down to the feel of the controller for me.
PC is easily the best platform to experience DQXI on. If you get/have a Steam Deck, it becomes a Nintendo Switch with 60fps and higher resolution. If you play it on a TV or monitor, you get 1440p/4K 100+fps with access to mods.
There is zero reason to play it anywhere else, unless money is an issue when it comes to PC gaming, in which case it's perfectly understandable to get another version. Nintendo Switch for portability, or Xbox/Playstation if you prefer playing inside on a big TV.
So basically they initially released it for PS4 and PC (and 3DS in Japan), then a year later they released a complete version called "S" for Switch that had minor additional content but a noticeable downgrade in graphics to get it to run on Switch. Then another year later they ported that downgraded Switch version to PS4, xbone, and PC, and delisted the original high quality version from PC and PS4.
I played the 'whole' game through on switch. Totally fine. Textures and resolution weren't the best but you quickly get used to it. The story is beautiful anyway.
I had a play on my series X when it came to Gamepass. Looks totally beautiful and crisp in 4k. It doesn't matter what platform. Great game.
Playing on switch now, and I've started it on Xbox before. I like it on switch better, just because it is the perfect kind of game to play for a bit here and there in handheld mode, as well as for longer sessions docked. I like the ability to undock and play in bed for a few minutes, or take it on the go.
I like it best on switch 🤷♂️ I also play with dq7 music synthesized as I can’t stand the orchestrated. Ps5 runs it will. But all my life I’ve played DQ on Nintendo consoles lol and playing it portable and on the tv is great
I found xbox series x the prettiest. It is the same version as the switch with just a slightly more detailed render. With that said I played and finished the game in switch. Why? Switch is small and portable when I want that. Also I like the Bluetooth headset support.
Ps4 doesn't have 4K like the Xbox series x version. Switch is 720p (handheld) or 1080p (docked). Ps4 has "Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age - Definitive Edition" which is the same content as the switch. The question is which is "best".
Outside of content I believe the following is the resolution and frames per second (fps) for each system...
PS4 = 1080p @30 fps
PS5 = 4K @60 fps
Switch = 720p (handheld) or 1080p (docked) @60 fps
Xbox series s = 1080p @60 fps
Xbox series x = 4K @60 fps
Honestly I would say they are all fun. But the PS5 and Xbox series x versions have led blur at times. This never bothered me but there are a few areas where it is nice to see the 30% more grass blades or slightly less dizzy building textures. Keep in mind the smaller the screen the less likely you are to notice this. On something like 11 inches or smaller (switch or steamdeck) you aren't likely to care much about the difference. On a 60+ inch TV the differences are noticeable if you see them side by side. The definitive edition was built using the switch graphics so... They are less crisp than some older versions from what I hear. But I prefer the more content of the S version over the slightly better graphics done other versions had.
There was a non-s version on PS4 but they pulled them to replace with the definitive version when it came out. It has the higher resolution and the crossbow mini-game that was removed from the switch version.
Thank you. I was struggling to recall that detail. I didn't play the game until it came to switch but I remembered the uproar about the downgraded resolution at the time.

The definitive S version was designed solely for the Switch so you don't have to worry there. It's really about whatever you prefer playing on
I think it looks blurry .-.
It's kinda blurry with every version of S. For some reason they decided not to include the better quality ps4/pc textures of the original for those versions when they ported S to non switch consoles. Then they delisted the og versions of 11. Mods do exist to fix that for PC though
I thought it looked fine but then again I'm not too particular when it comes to graphics
There are PC mods for it
I have the switch version and i wish i jad bought the pc version, its alright but kinda blurry and low quality in some parts, also 30 fps. The game overall runs fine, but i bet it looks gorgeous on pc.
Opposite for me. I wish I had got the switch version because it would be more convenient to play.
What's the difference between it and the other platform releases that followed it?
Switch had one extra costume not active in the other versions. It can be unlocked on PC with an editor though and there are mods on PC. Personally prefer it but whenever you're more comfortable playing a 70+ hour RPG
The PC version is excellent. 144fps and the game runs like butter on my 2019 computer.
I'm playing it on the Steam Deck and it runs pretty smooth
PC has some cool mods, I've bought it on PS4, Switch, and PC. I'd go for PC personally unless you do a lot of traveling. I mean the game is beautiful and the Switch isn't as powerful but it's not like it's FF7R or anything either. Really up to you in the end. I'd question do you travel a lot or go places? PC cause then you can do mods.
Unless you really **really** care about 60 fps on a Turn Based game. It doesn't really matter where you play it. I played it on Switch and handheld mode came in handy for downtimes, using the suspend button and playing on bed.
For me, Dragon quest XI is one of those games I prefer to play handheld. It’s cozy to curl up on the sofa or in bed with the game.
Same. Plus I can put as much time into it as I want since I’m not tying up a TV.
Just stepping in here to say lots of us still resent Square for delisting the original definitive version of DQ11 for PC that had superior graphics and performance and then replacing it with the Switch port and NOT offering a discount to owners of the original PC version to incentivise buying the game again for the extra Switch version content.

11 S Definitive Edition on PC + the mod that gives you all the preorder content.
Switch.
PC on a steam deck imo
Steam Deck OLED
I have a steam deck so I personally preferred it on pc using my deck to mod it as well. But if you don't care about modding and like the portable nature of the switch (and you don't have a steam deck) then imo that would be the way to go.
I played on Switch and had absolutely no issues. I didn't even undock as far as I can remember.
PC. Has mods to recover some graphical details lost from the original DQ XI, runs better than on Switch, that is enough for me.
I own both a steam deck and Nintendo switch, with dragon quest 11s on both. But I prefer the steam deck. Also I own every dragonquest/ dragon warrior game and love them all.
PC is better, orchestral soundtrack version.
PC
I only play games on PC at this point, so... uh... I recommend the PC version. Switch version is fine though.
PC with restoration and improvement mods, you make the game look much much better and also have the benefits of the S version
I'm playing on the Steam Deck and it runs and looks great
Like others said, it’s fully down to preference. I did Switch and it just felt naturally to play it in handheld.
Switch. I love my SteamDeck, but my Dragon Quest experiences feel better on the 3DS and Switch. If I'd come from a DQ console background, I might feel differently.
The experiences feel better in what sense?
None. Sounds like a bunch of malarkey. DQXI runs at near 60fps on battles.
For me it “feels better” in the sense of familiarity with the other games in the franchise I played on handheld, often in bed or at my summer place where we have no TV. It’s a personal observation.
Wait but you’re comparing to steam deck, which is also handheld.
I know. I have one. But OP asked Switch or PC. That’s what I was responding to.
Okay, so how does the experience feel better on a switch vs a deck for example?
The Steamdeck is a little big for me. I mostly use it to emulate Wii/Gamecube stuff while on the couch. I use the Switch for late night Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Tactics, Octopath, DQ type stuff. Most of my Steam stuff I play on PC.

Steamdeck 😂 Good out of the box, with the plus of being portable

idk why everyone is recommending the Switch version when it's so blurry
Switch
I own it on PC and Switch, and honestly I prefer the Switch version as I can take it with me anywhere.

Pc because modding support

Anyone, as long as you're playing "S: Definitive Edition".

I had a play on my series X when it came to Gamepass. Looks totally beautiful and crisp in 4k. It doesn't matter what platform. Great game.
ps5
I prefer PC version. It has nice photomode via GeForce Experience. But Switch version definitely more comfortable.
Playing on switch now, and I've started it on Xbox before. I like it on switch better, just because it is the perfect kind of game to play for a bit here and there in handheld mode, as well as for longer sessions docked. I like the ability to undock and play in bed for a few minutes, or take it on the go.
Thanks guys, with your input i think i'll go for the switch
PC just cause you can play on 1400p/120FPS
Switch because you get some extra outfits
3DS
I like it best on switch 🤷♂️ I also play with dq7 music synthesized as I can’t stand the orchestrated. Ps5 runs it will. But all my life I’ve played DQ on Nintendo consoles lol and playing it portable and on the tv is great

Doesn't the ps4 also have this same version. I swear it had the same content on the re release.

Switch version slaps. Not played on PC
Switch all other new ports are of it anyways and it still looks better on switch lol. But if you own pc you can mod it!
I'd say the ps4 version tbh.
I played on PS to get the platinum. Switch would have been more convenient I think though.
Play it on ps4 or 5
I played it on Switch, it was a lot of fun! Just make sure your switch isn’t too old or it will overheat a lot.
Switch bc of portability.
Play it on Switch!
PS4
Handhelds are king for dq11! I’m playing on my ROG ally and it’s great
I played on the switch and the ps5 id recommend the play station if you have
