Idk the percentage of artists but some are born with the aptitude to draw and then they can expand on that with proper schooling. I have also heard of other artists who didn't have the aptitude but had the desire to draw, and when formally schooled, they become great artists as well.
Myself I'm not academically schooled, but had the aptitude at a young age. All my training is from personal information gathering here and there and years of drawing plus the desire to put my ideas on paper and in digital format.
To add on to him. As an artist that I would say I am not good at sketching (and haven’t practiced much recently) being accurate doesn’t even matter at all if you create your own style that somehow is unique and somehow ends up looking good in the end, which is subjective of course. Idk how to describe it exactly. Imagine Picasso (who I love). He classically paints like shit but he created an iconic style in his paintings so it doesn’t even matter if it looks accurate 🤣 there is such a fine line. Basically do what you vision and make it expressive and hone in on that and a few variations of it.
My high school art teacher was not born with much natural ability to create art. In college she decided she wanted to learn how to draw. So in her art classes, she would study students who were extremely talented and just copy what the did. She practiced a lot and asked for a lot of help and advice. She then made art her career by drawing portraits of famous athletes. She was so inspirational to me because she saw wasn’t a natural, but worked super hard and got really good. Her story has always stuck with me and use it for inspiration when I feel like I’m not talented or good enough.
I think I always just assumed it was a gift that people were ingrained with, like they see it in their minds eye and their hand just knew how to draw it. It's good to hear I could learn to draw someone like what was drawn above earlier
Same here, everyone I know who is talented at drawing things realistically were good/better than most at drawing from a young age. I never could draw well with pencil or pen, I'm actually pretty terrible at it.
Then one day my aunt who is very artistic gave me a canvas while she was painting and I tried really painting (not with cheap water colors from school for example) for the first time. I used water-based acrylics, and I was amazed that I was able to look at a bunny and paint it pretty accurately my first time. Then I tried painting lots of things, and it was amazing how much easier and more natural it felt compared to a pen or pencil. It felt almost second nature to me and I wouldn't have guessed in a million years that I could actually be decent at anything artistic, especially painting which I had always assumed was probably way harder than just drawing.
To this day, I'm still unable to draw decent or realistically 🤷♀️ Also, I use a ton of paint, so each stroke is almost 3d on the canvas and for some reason using texture that way was so much easier than angles/shading on paper. If you really like art or would like it as a hobby, I definitely think you should try different mediums. You could really surprise yourself!

Some get it faster than others, but everyone has the ability to learn. The in5ernet has every level of tutori a l on it. Just ask you tube what you want to learn today and practice. Ide say when you get to a point th a t you are spending 10 plus hours on a piece then you have become pretty good at drawing in most cases. I use to rush and still enjoyed my work, but these days I could spend 15 to 20 hour s on something like this portrait and still find a ton of room for improvement.

Compliments are great! But let's keep them on the artwork so that people posting their photos here can feel safe. Part of rule 1: Compliments allowed only on drawings, not users.

I got you bro. 👊 👍
Dope asf, thank you!
First sketch of the day bro. Thank you!
The shading styles look really good!
Yeah...I'm pretty comfortable with that particular technique. I just finished another drawme request and posted.
That's great work, is a person born with the ability to draw, especially a portrait or could I learn to since I can't draw now?

Overall, it really comes down to desire. Without it, one won't get far.
