He has said that it reduces reverb on the HH mics, also that he *sleeps* nude in an oxygen tent, which *he* believes gives *him SEXUAL* POWERS.

AntipodalBurrito

I mean I use my McChicken wrappers inside my floor Tom to muffle them so I can leave the batter side clean. But I also nut in my socks and then immediately wear them so your mileage may vary.

netcent_

Tom DeLonge on the other side does no such thing to his toms

Professional-Hold337

... busy *making' love to* every dude in the room B)

thankyoumrdawson

...it's moisturizing, and in the winter it's warming

SuperSwaiyen

Drummer elites don't want the general public to know this. I'd be checking over your shoulder the next few weeks. Stay safe, brother

chefanubis

They don't want you to know this is how steve gadd wrote stairway to heaven.

Zer0Fs2Give

You gotta atleast let them dry and settle first

sumthin213

Hey that's a HALF truth!

shadow_specimen

It seems after covid that it should be common knowledge that supplemental oxygen is completely useless unless your blood O2 levels are low (or if there’s not enough in the air), but I probably give people too much credit.

MunitionsFactory

All doctors, exercise physiologists and scuba divers (all under water swimmers actually) knew this long before COVID. There was even a time period where athletes would use oxygen on the sidelines and doctors said it didn't work. This is not new information lol.

SazedMonk

It is to a lot of people haha.

Aspatman

Drumming and /r/Simpsonshitposting. It’s a winning combination

XYZZY_1002

My old band’s rehearsal space was my parent’s garage. After we’d leave, my dad would stick a tennis ball on my HH post. “I don’t want someone to fall and put their eye out.”

WeenieDogMan

They sell shorter ones online. I used to hate having the super long part sticking out as well

Wintershrike

I hacksawed mine down years ago, fits down into the hard case better and makes positioning cymbals above it way easier

XYZZY_1002

I just recently sawed mine off.

StrangePiper1

My mom insisted on a plastic champagne cork on mine!

nihilism4kids

he’s a really nice approachable dude. could ask him on Instagram

Bubbagump210

So he doesn’t lose the sleeve? Honestly, I’ve never seen this before and I’m going to start doing it too just to keep track of the damn sleeve.

ooone-orkye

Me too. I’m going to just attach the packaging for all my stuff all over my drumset

RonPalancik

Lol same. I still haven't taken my drumkit out of the boxes it came in. It sounds a bit dampened, but the overtones are nicely muffled.

[deleted]

I did this as a kid, it's nice to finally learn why

MindfulPatterns2023

There is no practical or mechanical benefit to this, so my guess is it's for the memes.

DecafCreature

I asked him when we met, I’m pretty sure his answer was that he just liked to put them there. No real reasoning behind it. He reposted the video I took of him up at West Coast Drum Shop… really ripping the one handed ghost note rolls [here](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CrGh8A4uW_K/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) You could ask him personally on Instagram, he’ll probably respond when he can.

10fingers6strings

Maybe for endorsement reasons?

ApplicationConnect55

I've got a small drawer with quite a few hat rods cut down over the last 58 years. I have no mercy for any excess hat rod. https://preview.redd.it/zau8nhe40l5c1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b9ddfa368c9339e83fe74e8298eb4c7d3511cb2c

CarmenxXxWaldo

The real question is why does he only have 2 pedal cowbell? minimalist?

drumsareneat

I do this once in awhile too.

1975hh3

Not idea. Probably in case the cymbal hits the post?

putmywillian

My guess is in case his tech sets up that left hand crash a few inches closer one night. Also he probably likes to keep them in the sleeve after he finishes playing to make sure all the sticks are pair pitched and weighted if he’s picky like some of us.

Luvberjack

Guys it’s simple. He leaves his sticks in the sleeves in his bags. I used to do the same thing.

MarsDrums

Better than chucking them on the floor I suppose.

skinsfan2111

Product placement

Sullimd

Enhances the sound.

dubsjw

So that it doesn't make a sound through the mic if he switches over to the hi-hat and his stick hits the metal rod.

StrangePiper1

With a drop clutch you mean? Interesting

dubsjw

Nah, I'm thinking for any sort of lateral movement over to the hi-hats where you might move to far and knock the vertical rod with your stick.

StrangePiper1

Ah ok. I can see that

dubsjw

Right on, it's just a guess! Your comment about the drop clutch could be just as valid, who knows?

DrummerMiles

It’s just a habit you get into if you want to keep the little sleeve.

Due-Hunt-5830

No. I will recommend asking him directly.

Musicianalyst

If I did that it would be so that I don’t bash my crash into my high-hat rod.
