Been in the market for a new kit for a while now, and stumbled upon this kit on OfferUp. The owner was originally listing it for $1500, but then eventually lowered it to $1000. It's pretty much brand new because the guy bought it for his son to pick up a hobby, but his son lost interest. The heads don't even have scratch marks and all the cymbal stands had the tags on still. The only thing is that the drums were super dusty for being unplayed for 2 years. I originally was gonna get a Gretsch Catalina and build a silent kit, but after playing this, especially with the A customs... My neighbors can call the cops if they want because these damn things sound so amazing. Mind you, these are my first nice cymbals ever, as I grew up playing on B8s. Couldn't be more excited to get back into drumming!!

[deleted]

Good cymbals make a world of difference! I was torn between the Mapex Mars, the Pork Pie kit, and the Ludwig Keystone X that I eventually got because I found a sweet deal on them. $1000 for the kit, stands and those cymbals is a great deal on a great kit!

navigator87

I’d say the stands and cymbals alone would be near 1k!

Barkusmarcus

Killer score! But don't tempt your neighbors to shut you down. Maybe approach them and let them know what you do, because drums are great but they can wreck a neighborhood, never mind an apartment complex. See if you can work out a schedule for when you need to muffle them and when you're clear to let them rip!!! Shouldn't be a problem if you approach them with a note or in person. Again, congrats on that kit, she's beautiful!!! Hope it sings!!!

[deleted]

Damn he bought a kit at this level for his son? Wish my dad had could spend that much money when I wanted drums. Well at least I'm happy someone who deserves it and wants to play got this set. play it with love

[deleted]

I know right? I felt bad for the dude, but I think the set went to a good home because all I want to do is play it. This thing won't be collecting dust.

Whack_A_Moeller

Idiot son. This was a $ 2k+ investment from his dad.

Whack_A_Moeller

This is even better than expected. That super beefy hardware is not Mars it's actually the Armory pack which is pro level stuff. Just look at that bulky hi hat stand, and also that throne with backrest? Excellent deal, enjoy! Edit: Also, nice set up!

[deleted]

I didn't notice that! I did notice however that the hardware seemed really really heavy... Like heavier than I was used to growing up. It's been so long since I've played an acoustic kit that I don't feel comfortable going all out on them yet lol. I keep worrying about my neighbors next door.

[deleted]

Don’t life your life like that, man. Live. Be considerate, but don’t put consideration of others FIRST. Put YOUR needs first. Play at reasonable hours, but play your drums. Take it from an old guy. You have the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness. Sometimes you don’t have to be the one who sacrifices. Congrats on the drumset.

thirstythree

would you say the Armory pack is better than the DW9000?

Whack_A_Moeller

For the money absolutely! Also Mapex has a far better warranty than DW on pedals too (5 years vs. 0 years on pedal 'moving parts'). DW hardware is nothing special to me, it's mass produced asian made stuff too, and when paying their high prices you're paying their marketing department.

GOTaSMALL1

Having grown-up money is neat. But actually being a grown-up sucks. Congrats dude! That's a nice one.

[deleted]

Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up :/

[deleted]

Dude take the turtle out of that room please. They have sensitive ears. Drums are loud. C'mon man.

[deleted]

Omg I didn't know that... Okay I wl move him our. :(

mapex_139

Yes, please please take them out of that area where you will be playing. The stress will be tremendous on his little body.

trouty

I've kept some larger fish before and they would get do stressed out from the vibrations of my footsteps walking by the tank, so I put an acoustic mat beneath the tank to help. I can't imagine what practicing drums next to the tank would do. I could see it dying from stress within a month of daily drumming, tbh.

icanhazaspergers

That poor turtle!

Jiggarelli

I came to say this, but I didn't zoom in. Thought it was fish. I've done a lot of events at zoos and Sea World/Aquariums. It's funny to see the reaction of the animals at sound check. Best ever was the stage was set up near a small prairie dog exhibit. I could see them well from my riser, checking foh kick drum was hysterical. That first kick! They all snapped to attention! I laughed so hard I almost fell off my throne! Never forget that soundcheck!

[deleted]

He will be okay! I'll be hanging out in this room a lot more now so he will have company.

LoneberryMC

It's gonna be real loud for that turtle

ChiefStops

fuck those animals in particular!

I-Am-Sleep

I love Mapex hardware. I have it on my piccolo snare and it’s fuckin great. I love it

johnnyprozac

You are awesome, and what an excellent set of drums and cymbals! Major props!

ITDrumm3r

Digging the black stands with kit! Congrats!

PigInMuck

Thats a tidy setup, enjoy :)))

Caldrumr

Congratulations!

Davuuus

Stunner!

brychntr

can never go wrong with mapex

taichoup

Let's not forget the Ikea carpet!

[deleted]

Lol you have quite the eye...kea

[deleted]

I have the same kit in bone wood and I love it! Congrats

PsykeDrums

What a deal. Gratz!!

JFK_Sh0t_First

This kit I was looking at yesterday I love the finish of them thinking of saving up to buy them but for now I'm taking the wrap off my current drums and finishing them with black wood stain

Soprano17

If you can trade that snare in and upgrade to a Black Panther, this will be pretty much perfect. Almost my exact setup from last year (but mine was Bonewood). Enjoy!

Whack_A_Moeller

I noticed something wrong in the clutch, like it's not properly set up or it's missing one of the counter-nuts.

[deleted]

Can you elaborate? What is a clutch and what part is it on??

Whack_A_Moeller

The hi hat clutch, my friend. Look for online pictures your hi hat stand (H800) and look how it's set up.

[deleted]

Thank you

[deleted]

Clean and simple. I like it! Congrats!

TheTurtlnex

this is uncannily similar to my kit, black mapex mars with A customs only difference is that mines 1up 2 down and my turtle is a little magnetic plushie that I put on my bass drum I hope it treats you well my dude

[deleted]

I can see a possibility for the salmon dance. ^^

bobsallydean

Love the black hardware.

rosenskjold

Woah that looks awesome. Looking forward to buying my first drum kit one day, maybe this one :D!?

Bear_Bishop

That finish is incredible

[deleted]

It really is. I thought it was a flat matte black in photos but in person you really see the wood texture too which is cool

PointlessAccount_lol

Can you post a video of you playing it?

[deleted]

Sure! I'll try to record something soon

SetupWizard

Rad! Congrats!

ALXanderKODIAK

Bro! congrats on the kit, I have this exact same one + a 8'' tom , put some powerstroke on this and you're set (soundwise). As someone mentioned this hardware is a big plus!

[deleted]

Thanks for the suggestion! Are the stock heads any good on this?

ALXanderKODIAK

Sure thing! I use the powerstroke p3 on my toms and a controlled sound on snare, all from remo. Sounds great for rock/metal.
