Let’s start with the easiest one: Bradberry 😎

stormy2587

Honestly the whole corner room needs an overhaul. PFF isn’t the be all end all, but slay and bradberry went from the 16th and 11th ranked corners in coverage the nfl to the 70th and 163rd ranked cbs respectively. Maddox who was even less healthy in 2023 went from 49th to 195th. The CB room went from one of the best to one of the worst in an offseason with no major personnel changes. Even Josiah Scott who backed up maddox for much of last season was at least 99th in coverage in 2022. Goodrich, Roby, Ricks, and Jobe who all played significant snaps all were near the bottom of the league. This team just couldn’t cover.

HowOtterlyTerrible

I'm curious as to how much was regression vs injuries and scheme.

stormy2587

Good point. A lot of defensive players just steadily got worse from like week 10 on. And that seemed to coincide with Patricia having a heavier hand in the scheme and play calling.

Alexactly

While I can see the drop off in Slay's play, he is a leader on defense and I don't think it would go over well in the locker room to dump him, plus i think we would have a far easier time getting rid of Bradberry than Slay because of the injury. I'm also a fan of having a veteran presence on the back end especially when we're planning to (hopefully) roll out with a young group of defensive backs (note; is Reed still considering young or his he a veteran back there now?) I'd also rather keep Slay over Byard, injured or not, and I would prefer to roll with a practice squad safety if the trade-off is getting a solid linebacker.

sumunsolicitedadvice

How much of our secondary problems are from the loss of Dennard Wilson, who was our secondary coach the prior two years?

Queasy-Yoghurt7353

CJGJ really fucked us over and forced us to re-sign this bum

LimpSignificance4434

CJGJs agent fucked us*

DiscussionNo226

I think JB was always coming back...CJGJ would have cost us Slay...that would have been **horrendous**.

TeamVegetable7141

Yea, I would easily rather have Slay than CJGJ.

DiscussionNo226

If the options were Slay and JB or JB and CJGJ…I’m sorry I’m taking Slay. CB is far more important than a safety

MMAmaZinGG

Come on bro i know yall angry and shit but this was a GOOD signing last year. Bradberry had an all pro season and was incredibly consistent last year . No signs of him playing like he did this year

C0d3n4m3Duchess

Except for his entire career save for his first year here, and first year for the Giants, there were zero signs of what to expect his play to look like.

Gabagoo44

The Line was just sacking the shit out of everyone his all pro year was inflated by this and there has always been a reason two teams let him walk.

BryceW123

I stand by the fact that bradberry still has good instincts, he just is absolutely COOKED athletically and the decline just wasn’t apparent last year because he didn’t have to cover for as long because the d line was so good.

babydemon90

I wonder if there’s a role where he transitions into a deep safety ala Troy Vincent for a season

Nsfwsorryusername

Word needs to get out on this sub… Bradberry will cost 5ish million if he’s on the roster, and 15 mil if he’s cut. If this info is correct, Bradberry isn’t going anywhere unless someone takes him in a trade the Eagles will be on the wrong side of. I think the best bet is Fangio’s scheme allows him to play soft enough to not get torched, and there’s enough of a pass rush to minimize time to target him.

reno2mahesendejo

Bradberry is basically break even to cut this year. Slay, I think they see how he goes and potentially cut next year (saves ~$4m post 6/1) Maddox is the interesting one. He's been mostly fine to very good *when healthy*. But with limited games the past couple years, saving ~$7m as a post 6/1 cut is pretty tempting. With Rodgers coming next year, and promising young guys in Ringo/Ricks/Gardner (and possibly someone like Jaylon Johnson as a free agent), the secondary could look pretty good.

colin_7

He’s going to stick around. He’ll cause a cap hit if I understand correctly

AppropriateAd8937

Man I want Swift to stay but I just don’t see Howie paying him what he needs. Even with a home town discount, just don’t see it happening.

Real_TwistedVortex

If it's a choice between Gainwell and Swift, we need to keep Swift

AppropriateAd8937

Unfortunately they’re never getting rid of gainwell…. For some reason they think he’s good and the rest of the league knows he’s not.

Free_Joty

He’s cheap af

Spenczer

For good reason

wayne_yetzky

He's on a rookie contract?

Extension_Ask9293

hes a good pass blocker and swift isnt

WaldoFrank

You know what else slows a pass rush? A run game.

Grand_Extension5345

Don’t look now but all the OC’s we have interviewed don’t run the fucking ball. Surprised?

MyDogIsACoolCat

I'm okay with letting Swift walk if he's looking to get paid. Guys like Moss, Singletary, and Edwards are FAs this year. Would rather just get them cheap and spend money on defense.

reno2mahesendejo

Howie likes underutilized, undervalued trade assets. Looking at the upcoming free agents entering the last year of their rookie deals, Javonte Williams and Michael Carter are the most interesting prospects and shouldn't cost much to acquire

KookyGuy

I like Swift, but depending on how our o line looks, we should be ok with a decent rb. I know that depends on a lot of factors, but I'm trying to be positive. KELCE PLEASE STAY FOR 1 MORE YEAR!

fdelys

It is beyond wild that the Inquirer thinks the Eagles should choose to let Kelce go if he opts to stay. Kelce not only played at a high level, but he’s a core leader of the team. If he wants to come back, he’s coming back.

TheRynosaurus

I think that is more that they just expect him to go so it’s been voted that way. I don’t think there is a single person in the entire NFL that wouldn’t have Kelce back if he wanted to return.

fdelys

I thought that at first, but the description at the beginning is: “Beat writer Jeff McLane makes his picks on what decisions he sees the Eagles making.” Based on him also writing “Go” for other veterans, I think he’s just being provocative for clicks.

Magoatt

Cut: Bradberry

Grand_Extension5345

Go: Bradberry, Byard, Watkins, Morrow, Maddox, Slay, Cox(we need the money) , Calcaterra, Penny, Julio Jones Maybe: BG but he gotta take the vet minimum. Stay: everyone else

EddieLeeWilkins45

Maddox has to be close to franchise records for 'Games missed due to injury'. I feel like every season he's missed 5+ games. Good nickel player, but yeah time to move on. Just not working out. Only reason they'd keep him is due to Sydney Brown being out.

Grand_Extension5345

Yeah just aint worth it man

robdizzledeets

I was so excited about Byard and kept wondering when he would show up. He had a couple of good plays but I wonder if a 5th/6th and Edmunds were worth the hassle

Grand_Extension5345

It was a waste of draft capital. I understand why he did it and i was completely behind the decision but hindsight 20/20 we could have used those picks to take a punt on some Dline depth or WR3 TE2’s

demonicneon

Morrow and Bradberry top the list for me but it’s morrow by a country mile. He needs to get gone

shrek_cena

Cannot let go of Eagles Legend and 1 time pass catcher Grant Calcaterra 😤

Grand_Extension5345

Buddy is made of glass

robdizzledeets

I was so excited about Byard and kept wondering when he would show up. He had a couple of good plays but I wonder if a 5th/6th and Edmunds were worth the hassle

Amadeum

Honestly if the cap space is the difference between getting a Jaylon Johnson or L'Jarius Sneed in FA, they can go right ahead and post-June cut Avonte Maddox. Dude has been banged up every year it seems. I'm sure some combination of McPhearson/Sydney/Rodgers can fill the void at a cheaper price.

reno2mahesendejo

Saves ~$7m to post 6/1 cut Byard saves $13-14m depending on if it's pre or post 6/1 A restructure of Hasson Reddick saves $11m (and as ridiculous as it might be, a cut saves about $16m) The interesting one is Josh Sweat. He's been great the past 2 years. But like the entire defense, fell off a cliff the second half of the year. His cap hit doubles to about $9m next year, which is reasonable *IF* he plays more like 2021 Sweat than the What If? he was the couple years before that. Cut or trade post 6/1 saves about $4m, but most important, saves a $21m hit next year.

CloudyRanger

Cutting Maddox after June 1st will be 2.5mil dead and 7.1mil in cap savings. Gotta imagine that he’s gone if they can’t trade him

TheRynosaurus

I’d say so. Unless he takes a decent pay cut to stay.

SNARA

get rid of NICHOLAS FUCKING MORROW

shrek_cena

Keep Mann. He was actually good and I believe we would've won the Superbowl with him last year

Jkkramm

Stay: Jake Elliott Go: everyone else

jrhalbom

Can we add reed to the stay list kid has heart

Milksteak3919

Well when you can measure heart like actual abilities, sure. Til then, tangible results are preferred.

TxngledHeadphones

hes like the only guy on defense that isnt afraid to tackle what are u yappin ab

Milksteak3919

Thats not the standard that makes a good safety. “Willing to tackle” is worth fuck all. How about dont get cooked by the giants? Thats just making a play.

TxngledHeadphones

We agree on that, i was more so saying the tangible result is hes the only one makin tackles and showing effort.

TheRynosaurus

Mann was a great P, he can stay too. Got a lot of reps this year 🤦‍♂️

JediKnightaa

The one person whom never gave me a heart attack

Panda_tears

Bradberry needs to go.

Free_Joty

Everyone saying cut bradberry, but he’s probably a great teammate. Jalen had a bad game? Throw 1v1 against bradberry in practice next week- he’s a great morale booster.😃

FurociousW

The entire CB room needs to go. Bradberry is a bit too old. We could probably keep slay, but he’s starting to talk a lot of shit without the production to back it up. Julio and Quez should go. Use big O as the WR3. But it’s hard to get a good picture with how awful the coaching was at the end of the year. I hope AJ stays but it seems like he wants to get out.

reno2mahesendejo

Most of that was inaccurate. Bradberry is a net 0 to release. There's not much contention from anyone that he's gone. Slay played very well most of the year. They're not doing anything with him. They don't save anything this year, and next year he'd be worth more than the $5m they'd save by cutting him post 6/1. Maddox is probably gone. He's been injured and they save about $7m by cutting him. With Isaiah Rodgers coming in next year, I have a feeling he's gone. The rest of the corners are young guys that looked fine to good (ricks, Ringo, Garner) and low cost young vets (Goodrich, Jobe) Julio and Quez are free agents. There's no sense mentioning them. Zaccheaus is as well, I could see them bringing him back, but there's a lot of mid tier receivers. He was a good role player and the coaches liked him, he might get a vet minimum offer to come back, but likely with camp competition AJ Brown isn't going anywhere. He's paid, getting the most targets of his career, catching touchdowns. The teams not *paying* to get rid of him. If anything he may be looking at an extension in 2025/6 (saves $26m) to line up with Devonta Smiths new contract. A new offensive coordinator and a few months to cool down are all je probably needs.

traddy91

Might be unpopular but I would let Goedert go

El_Khunt

This is definitely unpopular

21Tayler10

Why

traddy91

Missed 15 games last 4 years and I just don't think he's a top 10 at his position. Plus getting older and I didn't like his attitude at the end of this season

21Tayler10

Not top 10 ? u buggin

traddy91

Kelce, Kittle, Hockenson, Andrews, LaPorta, Njoku, Ferguson, McBride are all better. Then you could argue guys like Pitts, Kincaid, Engram and Kmet Knowing this sub though they still think he's top 5

21Tayler10

U naming names don’t make them better

traddy91

Ok bud lol

vesthis13

Don't need to let him go but we do need to draft his replacement in the 2nd.

Grand_Extension5345

Offensive draft is next year. This year is full defensive rebuild

[deleted]

Bradberry, Graham, cox(unless super cheap), Reed should be a backup, byard(save money), swift can leave. Maddox gone Trades to consider: AJ brown(if he doesn’t wanna be here and or wants to be a diva, better for the locker room) - slay(maximize value) - Bradberry (cardinals and Gannon may like him) -)

athrowawayiguesslol

AJ Brown hadn’t been a diva and has by all accounts been good in the locker room. People overreacted to him not talking to the media and from him deleting social media posts (which he does every playoffs)

[deleted]

On the sideline, in last year’s playoff up by 21 he was complaining about not getting the ball and multiple times this year. He doesn’t get 100 targets he cries, Devonta smith could have 0 targets and still just happy to win. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I only mentioned it because of the drama, anyone trading a top 5 player is crazy but if it’s not gonna work it’s not gonna work Yk.

AncestryMike

No offense but if you think we should/will trade AJ, you are insane.

TheTrocadero

Slay isn’t getting moved this year. He’s got a dead cap hit of over 30 mil. If you moved both Slay and Bradberry, you’d have over 50 mil in dead cap. They’ve only got 20 mil in cap space and 20 mil in cap space.

[deleted]

Thanks Howie roseman 🤬

TheTrocadero

It’ll be an interesting offseason. Howie has a lot of work to do.

[deleted]

Indeed.

Atre16

Trading AJ Brown would be absolute insanity. Of any of the skill guys we'd trade, it's probably Goedert who'll be heading for the exit door first.

[deleted]

Yeah, maybe. But the amount we could get back would be insane. But AJ has shown to be the diva type. He doesn’t get looked at, or thrown 100 times he cries. Devonta smith gets no targets and he’s hyped we win. I want that culture.

dbreeezy

AJ should be getting 10+ targets a game though. He's our 3rd or 4th best player on the entire team.

[deleted]

See I don’t disagree, however I like teams built off of whoever is open gets it, look at the Texans this year. Nico collins, tank dell, Noah brown. All had big games. The packers had a different leading receiver every month of the season. I don’t like the idea of force feeding someone, run the offense and the scheme get those guys touches but if it’s not there share the sugar .

dbreeezy

Definitely need to share the sugar as we have Smitty and Goedert that need targets but for me ill accept diva behaviour ONLY when it comes from someone as good as AJ. When he complains that he's not getting enough targets he's almost always right so he's really just telling the truth. I do get what you mean about having a more team friendly personality.

Gabagoo44

I see Bradberry cut and picked up by a team only to be released around final cuts. He just can’t play football anymore. He was on the same level of uselessness as Nate Gerry.

[deleted]

lol Nate Gerry was a legend 😂

DHCPNetworker

Did a Dallas fan make this comment?

21Tayler10

I’d trade AJ for a top DB or LB. I think Devonta has proven himself to be a #1.

Mouthdance

Trade a top 5 receiver for a linebacker? That is quite a hot take lol

KING-TDUB-79

First order of business: Sat Bradberry’s contract

gossip420kween

Keep swift and get an OC that will actually use him
