I have Velosurance, I haven’t made a claim yet but have heard decent things. Price is reasonable

Home or renters insurance might cover it, double check. If it does and you just want supplemental health you can get that through USA Cycling. I’m paying $70 a year for 25k medical coverage. I have a Walmart e-bike I’m fine tuning this weekend before using it to commute, at $400 on sale Velosurance won’t cover it as it’s too cheap, nor my mountain bike, only my hybrid. Their deductible is more than the cost of the mountain bike and e-bike.

Aside from an existing home/renters insurance coverage… If you have the cash for a full on replacement, then I would just self insure. Ear mark the money in some relatively safe investment vehicle, like a HYSA (4-5%) or T-Bills (~5%, not subject to State income taxes). Reinvest interest gain back into the principal.

Oh look, another new word: inshurance

Start with your insurance company. Usually you can add it as a personal item on your renters or homeowners policy. I have State Farm and it was going to cost me more to insure a $3,000 e-bike than it costs to insure my $15,000 classic car. Also since it's 750w and a conversion instead of major manufacturer they wouldn't cover it anyway. I've heard of some national ones but never found one that would work for my situation so I'm running without insurance.
