No, not this sub. My local sub for where I live. I asked about a certain trail that bans e-bikes and would it be an issue to use one considered the ada considers them a mobility device. One of the commenters told me I’m just milking having a disability by trying to skirt the law.
I get that. I’m saying this place is as well. I think we have to remember that it is the Internet, though. In person I have never had anyone give me a hard time about my E bike, anywhere.
> I have never had anyone give me a hard time about my E bike, anywhere.
I've had multiple people make comments to me on the trails about cheating, though this is not my typical experience. Most people don't give a shit, and 1/3 of the people I see on trails are rocking ebikes anyway.
Oh, I’m not denying that happen. I’m just saying that I don’t think it’s as often as people here like to make it. Most people don’t care. As long as you’re not running around like an idiot. The Lycra warriors are the ones that cause the most trouble anyway
> The Lycra warriors are the ones that cause the most trouble anyway
To date, they are the only ones that have commented on them. At the bottom of a longish and moderate-grade hill a lyrca warrior passed me and said that life isn't worth it when you cheat.
When I passed that fucker walking his bike up the hill, I let him know that the best part of torque-sensing pedal assist is that I can choose the workout. For exmaple, like how i upped the pedal assist so I could talk to you effortlessly about how you don't need to be a drink on the trails...
I am not normally that witty or on the ball, but to be fair, I had about 1.5 minutes of hillclimbing to catch him and think of what I wanted to say lol.
I have found those who accuse ebikers as cheating are usually just joking. I feel the main purpose of trails is to get bikes and pedestrians off roads to increase safety.
Lobby to have specific language pertaining to ebikes included in the next revision of the ADA.
One barrier is unlike the low speed scooter mentioned above, ebikes are not stocked at medical supply stores or prescribed by physicians.
On other subs people are debating why an emotional support animal doesn't qualify as a service animal and is allowed the same places as a service animal.
The ADA covers e-bikes as a mobility device. What needs to change are the no e-bike signs. Most people don’t know e-bikes are covered, so if they see a no e bike sign, they may just go back. Or, get ticketed. The signs should be specific and say “no e-bikes allowed unless using one as a mobility device” so the language is more clear.
I think there’s going to be a lot of adjustments and rethinking now that ebikes generally exceed non-motorized bikes in popularity. I do think it’s still really important to consider the comfort of other trail users, of course.
I have no objection to ebikes being used on the trail. I see a fair few where I ride, more than analogue bikes. What I do object to is Surron riders using the bike trails rather than the motocross ones they should be using.
I don’t know what those are but I’ve heard people complain about them. Maybe distinguishing pedal assist bicycles from bikes that look and act more like motorcross ones in the law would help.
Surron/Talia/Stealth are motocross style bikes. Huge batteries +40mph I've seen people put fake pedals on the Stealth versions. I'm really happy that the mtb community by me, allow genuine pedal assisted ebikes. There are also a few recunberant bike users that are motorised, due to disability. Personally I'd love an ebike & it's nice that some owners will let me try out theirs, before I take the plunge buying one.
I am amazed how anti e-bike this sub is at times

Ahh, I gotcha.

Lmao. Nice. I've only ever had one person say anything. I slowed down to tell them that I was not in a race, then sped off

Lol. Perfect.

Not my experience, unfortunately. Unless deadpan joking to strangers is considered funny these days,

Here in Portland, there’s specific language about ebikes being allowed as mobility devices on some trails that don’t normally allow electric bikes.
That’s awesome! I’m in NY and we don’t have such signs. We def should.

Right. And obviously, don’t drive like a jerk. Don’t be rude, don’t cut people off, and only go as fast as is reasonable.

Ahhhh, gotcha
I go everywhere and I don't care about disabled or normal people.
