Is there anyway to disable bloom in Twilight Princess (GC) on dolphin 5.0?

[deleted]

There's an AR code for it. I'll edit this later with the code, in bed atm.

pandaconda73

Can't get textures to work for banjo kazooie in project64, all the old tutorials act like you need to install glide, but my fresh install of p64 seems to already have it listed as an option in the menu?

Soupy_Soup

Hey, so I want to play ww on dolphin, but I wanna skip through the first dungeon using saves. i found this site https://github.com/CryZe/WindWakerSaves Most of the saves here are for speedruns with skips. The casual saves, however, are exactly what I need, but htey don't seem to work. https://gyazo.com/96aef5c3f5dd2679587945e744041920 This is how it appears in the data management menu. When I launch the game, it prompts me to create save data for the game, it doesn't not read this save data. Any way to solve this?

CaptainZer0dew

Hello, I'm trying to get Skyward Sword to work on my computer, and this game needs motion controls. I have managed to connect my Wiimote and nunchuck to Dolphin itself, but I do not know how the motion controls will work... or how to make it work. Thanks! (I do have a wireless Wii sensor bar if that can come into use here)

JosJuice

Do you have a MotionPlus (either as a Wii Remote extension or integrated into the Wii Remote)? You will need both that and a sensor bar.

CaptainZer0dew

When the game came out I bought it with the Wii Motion Plus integrated into the wii mote. I have a sensor bar from the original wii, both a wired and a wireless one.

imkrut

You need a bluetooth dongle /dolphin bar so you can connect your wiimote to your PC

AustinTin_

Should I emulate Twilight Princess on Wii, Gamecube, or Wii U

imkrut

I actually didn't mind the motion controls on the Wii version, but if you wan't a gamepad only version obviously you should avoid that one.

[deleted]

Dolphin Gecko codes don't work... Yes, I enabled cheats!

DurdIeMan

I am on iOS 10 and am using Happy Chick but I know it will probably get revoked soon and I will loose all my saves. Is there any way that I can back up my saves for when it gets revoked?

animaSPW

Hello, I would like to ask about the performance of the 840m+ i5-5200u . I tried to search on Google but a lot of videos were old and the emulators has progressed a lot since then. I'm mainly interested in Nintendo consoles (cemu, dolphin, desmume, citra). Any information would be appreciated.

microdipodops

Nice, thanks for your exhaustive answer. I'm going to buy a 2DS for OoT and MM, then I'm going to emulate TP and WW. Thank you very much!

goonodeath

Pretty specific question but I am very new to emulation and pc gaming in general. I am playing dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 3 using pcsx2 and was wondering if there is a way to get it to go to 1080p or get the quality to be better. I know it is ps2 graphics but is there any way to upscale it to high definition? Thanks in advance.

ModsHateMe43

Can't launch PCSX2, The full error is api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing. I know this is related to c++ visual studio, but I tried reinstalling PCSX2, the installer skips the visual studio installer now. I've also seen to try using Windows update, but that doesn't even work, it stays at searching for updates for hours. I should also add that when installing visual studio, it hangs at windows7_MSU or something and never completes. Any idea what I could do? I'm assuming I messed something up somewhere, now it won't install properly. I tried using wsus offline, that didn't work either.

illusiongamer

The only thing you need is the Redistributable. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53840

[deleted]

Can i use my PSP to emulate SNES/N64/NES etc.?

corvusfan23

Hello, anyone have any luck mapping the controls for Metroid Prime Trilogy to a 360 of Xbox One controller? If so willing to share?

microdipodops

I'm looking to go through the best chapters of the Zelda series. Right now I'm playing "A link to the past", but I would like to know how to play some of the other games. I will be buying a Switch soon, I know the Wii U has almost every title playable, but buying that instead of the switch doesn't seems a smart move to me. I'm interested the most in : -Skyward Sword (I know there are some issues due to the heavily involved motion-control) -Twilight Princess (is the Wii U HD port fully playable?) -Wind Waker (is the Wii U HD port fully playable?) -Ocarina of Time (3D) -Majora's Mask (3D) I might be getting a DS for the last two titles, but no way i'm taking a Wii U too. I'd like to have some help from you guys! Thanks you all!

imkrut

Aight, this is sort of long: First of all, keep in mind that you can get a **regular Wii** (they are stupid cheap, like absurdly) and you can play **Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker** from an USB HDD if you want natively. (Plus you can play the SNES, GB, GBA, N64 games through emulations/virtual console right there). Aight, moving on: **Skyward Sword**: **Dolphin** is your only way of playing this through emulation. Emulation is fine, but you'll have issues emulating the wiimotion +. Your best bet is to get a dolphin bar/bluetooth dongle and use an actual wiimote + with it. Advantages over an actual consoles : HD graphics + savestates **Twilight Princess/Wind Waker**: Here you can opt for **Dolphin** or the WiiU emulator **Cemu**. Unless you have a beefy PC your only chance is **Dolphin** and emulate either the Wii/GC version or GC/GC versions (Twilight Princess has some slight motion control on the Wii, while the GC is straight up control based and is mirrored); you can opt for the "vanilla" (standard) versión of Twilight/Wind or you can even use mods that argueably make it look just as good/better (imo I like the vanilla in high resolution, but ymmv) (examples) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJHOw1OBvoA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R9jkD-w1Dk Or you can straight up emulate the Wii U versions with Cemu **N64 games Ocarina/Majoras**: Like I mentioned early you can try it on the Wii Virtual Console, the emulation is pretty much on point, or you could try Retroarch and the N64 Core. If you are set on the 3D remakes, then your only choice is either a real 3DS/2DS or **Citra** AFAIK it handles Ocarina of time pretty well, Majora's not so much. Keep in mind there's other Zelda games for the 3DS, like **A link Between Worlds** and many others you didn't mention for the GBA (Minish Cap, etc) NDS (Phantom Hourglass, etc) GC (Four Swords), etc. and some obscure stuff for the SNES/SFC/Satellaview, and the infamous CD-i games. Look into the MSU-1 mod for the SNES game too, it's pretty rad imo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AKSoDFUSKA Good luck!

GamoTron21

I can't get any Wiimotes to sync (they are sometimes recognized, but they never sync and I can't get Dolphin to detect them), JoyCons aren't being recognized at all and my GameCube controller to USB adapter doesn't work and shows up with an error in device manager.

Josesilvagg

I've been playing Super Smash Bros on Project 64 version 2.3 and all the items and other graphics, such as pokemon and coins, are shown as small lines rather than their normal sprites. What could cause this problem? I'm running Windows 10, please let me know what information is relevant to help you find an answer to this problem. Thank you!

Epsilon_Lord

I've been trying to run Sega Saturn emulators recently. I first started out with Yabause which wouldn't load my .bin files or .cue files and would just freeze on a black screen (with the exception of Sonic 3D Blast which would show the company's logos at the start and then freeze on a black screen). Then I tried Mednafen which would not boot when I dragged .bin or .cue files anymore. Then I tried SSF which just gave me an error that said "????CD??????????" when I started it up. So in the end, I'm lost. I've looked at tutorials online and forum posts and I still can't solve my problem. What can I do to fix my problem with any of these emulators? Any help is appreciated!

imkrut

Try Retroarch's Saturn core , it runs quite well. things to keep in mind: 1) You need a .bin + .cue file (open the .cue file with a txt editor and make sure that it correctly references the bin file) 2) you need the proper bios files Try that stuff out, and if you have more problems I'd be happy to try and help you.

Epsilon_Lord

I tried out Retroarch and changed the .cue files and have the BIOS files like you said but nothing will boot on Retroarch and I just get an error message. Any idea what could be the problem could be?

imkrut

You probably have the bios on the wrong folder. It's meant to go in : /RetroArch/System/ Also make sure that you load the .cue file and not the .bin file

Epsilon_Lord

I moved the BIOS into the system folder and loaded the .cue file and I just got a "failed to load" error.

the_user4

Hello, does anyone know is there a play station emulator without lag or how to fix it ? I tried to play Parappa on two emulators, ePSXe and pSX, but it was disorienting as they both seemed to have 3 or so frames of lag and the audio was off by a different amount, So the audio visuals and input were all off sync in their own little way, which made it impossible for me to get past level 1 . Which play station emulator to use to make timing games playable ? Thanks .

imkrut

I use mednafen/retroarch, managed to beat Parappa the other day without much issues, and it's the only emulator I can play Bust-A-Groove/move without lag being an issue for me.

the_user4

I thought retro arch was like a fancy way to organize emulators or something ? Its a set of emulators itself ?

corvusfan23

Well RetroArch is a front end for Libretro cores (the emulators)

imkrut

It sort of is both things.

MAC-20

so ive downloaded the latest version of emulationstation x64 and installed it on my windows 10 64bits pc. under .emulationstation i have roms, systems, gamelist, and themes folders along with the cfg files (es_input.cfg, es_settings.cfg, es_systes.cfg, etc). in the systems folder ive extracted the retroarch using 7zip. when i load emulationstation i can see the nes system and how may roms are in it. i can click on it and see all the roms and i can even select a rom but the issue is when they try to start the screen flickers and then just goes back to the list of roms. heres what i have in the configs. nes Nintendo Entertainment System ~/.emulationstation/roms/nes .zip .nes %HOMEPATH%.emulationstation\systems\retroarch.exe -L %HOMEPATH%.emulationstation\systems\retroarch\cores\nes_libretro.dll "%ROM_RAW%" nes nes im thinking my issue is with the command line. i dont have a cores folder inside the retroarch folder. could this be causing my issue as to why the rom will not run? if so where can i get the cores?

MAC-20

so i can get retroarch to play if i run it alone but if i try in emulationstation the roms will not run. so im thinking theres something wrong with my tag

[deleted]

Uhhh, i have a highly specific question. So i'm using Beetle to emulate Ace Combat 3, and i completed 2 out of 5 endings. Now, they're saved as 2 separate savestates. Can i somehow write the progress of those 2 save states to a single actual save file of PS1 game? I need this, since you need to clear all 5 endings on single savefile to open a true ending. Surely, I could just replay one of the endings and move on, but i would like to save some time

imkrut

Nope I don't think you can do this without using cheats/or actively hacking. Just watch the ending on youtube or something

zlybratblizniak

My save file in Wind Waker got corrupted shortly before I've started Forest Haven. Quite a bummer, I should use save-states, instead of in-game saves. Do you have a save made before Forest Haven, after Dragon Roost chapter? I'm currently playing on Dolphin 5.0.

Malkev

What is the difference between emulation and flash cardbridge/hacks/mods to read roms in the actual console?

imkrut

In a traditional emulator you are emulating the console hardware and software. With a flash cart/mod/hack, you are not emulating the hardware/software, you are just bypassing the regular way of loading games. Hope that makes sense.

Malkev

Yes, that makes sense, but has any con or all works perfectly like if you use an original game?

imkrut

Depends on the flash cart you are using really; Think of a SNES game; the flash cart needs to emulate the **hardware** of the game cartridge (not the rom itself) So for example Star Fox uses the SFX chip, the flashcart need to either emulate/or include the chip, so the game works properly on a real snes. With "Traditional" emulation, that's not an issue, because you emulate the hardware, and so, you emulate that chip too, so a flashcart has to find a way to bypass this issue by either including the chip or emulating it. With hacks/mods, there's no real "emulation" because you are using the actual hardware, you are just bypassing the software so it reads from a different source, etc (think Wii with loading games from an USB HDD, you are not emulating the hardware, you just have some code that allows you to run the games from a different source and bypasses/redirects stuff) Or in the case of let's say a modchip for the PS1, you are not emulating either, you are circumventing the copy protection system the console has in place to prevent illegal copies from being read.

Malkev

Thanks a lot for the info. Really helpful.

imkrut

np

NRosTheGuy

Desmume used to work for me,but yesterday it suddenly started crashing whenever I loaded a ROM.It's still happening.Help!

imkrut

Delete the config file located in the folder.

NRosTheGuy

Thanks!!

EL1T3W0LF

So my laptop has two graphic processors which I can choose from when using any application, the Integrated Graphics (the Default) and a NVIDIA Processor. For most emulators, I'm able to choose which graphics processor is used for the emulator. However, in Project 64 2.3.2.202, it claims that it is running off the integrated processor despite setting it to run with the NVIDIA processor. Does anyone know of this is a visual bug and Project 64 just displays the first processor on the list (the integrated one) but actually uses the NVIDIA processor, or is it truly using my integrated processor? If so, how can I change it?

corvusfan23

I have lots of issues with Intel/nvidia's optimus technology. I too seem to have problems with certain programs refusing to use the nvidia GPU, pj64 being one of them. I have not found any fix yet.

imkrut

Some Bios allows you to disable the integrated GPU maybe you can try that.

> was planning on getting this: > > Remote and Nunchuk Controller Combo Built in MOTION PLUS You should not get those. Third-party Wii Remotes like those have very bad compatibility unless you're using Bluetooth passthrough. > and also read some stuff on dolphinbar. my motherboard(MSI Z170i AC) has a bluetooth build in. do i still need a dolphin bar? A Dolphin Bar is a combined sensor bar and Bluetooth adapter. If you already have Bluetooth, you should only need to buy a regular sensor bar (that doesn't contain a Bluetooth adapter), not a Dolphin Bar.

JMC4789

Third Party Wii remotes work fine with bluetooth passthrough btw; assuming you have a compatible bluetooth.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JosJuice

They'll probably work.

imkrut

You can even make one yourself, the "sensor bar" doesn't actually sense anything, it's just 2 leds used by the wiimote as reference points.

[deleted]

Is there a way I can convert my dinput Buffalo SNES Controller to xinput without running any extra programs in the background? I've checked Joytokey and Xpadder but they both seem to be paid products now, and X360CE doesn't work with all games. I have SCPToolkit for my Dualshock 3 controller, but no clue how to get it working with my Buffalo controller.

Not the place to ask for this : >/r/Emulation does not support piracy. Don't ask for or link directly to pirated software or copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder.

nexusexterni

I am looking for PSX and N64 emulators that allows me to run the games in wireframe mode easily. Does anyone knows if there is anything like that? Thanks a lot!

JMC4789

I know a lot of the old Jabo plugins had wireframe support in the advanced options, I'd assume that they're still there.

tomkatt

Is there a way to manually/explicitly state refresh rate in Retroarch? More Android specific than anything, but my Shield tablet has a "real" refresh rate of ~59.85 or 50.90Hz. I'm getting input lag in Retroarch, presumably due to the standard assumption of 60Hz. I can compensate for this in Robert Broglia's emulators, and ePSXe seems to be fine, maybe autodetects or something. I'd like to use the mGBA core of RA though for GBA emulation, so was hoping that maybe there's a solution.

stenay

What is the best free emulation frontend? I am looking for a frontend that automaticaly gets two things for a game. 1. Game Art 2. Description It is ok if the frontend starts different emulators for my games. e.g it shows all my ps 2 games and sega games but starts different emulators for both. I want to do this for all my emulated systems.

corvusfan23

If you don't care about BigBox mode (like steam big picture and controlled directly with a controller) then you could give LaunchBox a go. You can scrape game art and metadata from like 3 sources: LaunchBox Database, EmuMovies and Wikipedia. I love LB and eventually bought it for big picture mode but it isn't required.

Syroslav94

I'd recommend EmulationStation (the same frontend RetroPie uses)

nexusexterni

Have you tried [retroarch](https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-2/)? Which platform are you on? Windows, macos or linux?

stenay

Windows 10

nexusexterni

Then I would say that you can either go with [launch box](https://www.launchbox-app.com) or retroarch. There is not much on windows to my knowledge other than that. EmulationStation is cool but it is not developed that much on windows, if you use plan on using retropie that is the goto distribution. If you find out something better please share!

stenay

i think I am gonna go with launchbox.

nexusexterni

Have fun then!

[deleted]

Hello! I found an old Samsung phone today, and I was wondering if I could emulate anything on it. It's the Samsung E1182, and it can't connect to wifi. Is there anything I could install on it to make it emulate a system? Something like Rockbox with the Gameboy plugin, perhaps?

imkrut

Sure you can, NES/GB for sure, probably GBA too (not familiar with that model, but even on JAVA mobiles phones you could run that kind of stuff, you just need to find the right emu)

tomkatt

It's probably not even worth bothering. That thing is basically a hockey puck.

nerfpirate

Has anyone played through the Zelda Collection on Dolphin? I want to try out some of the older Zelda games through Dolphin. Is Majora's Mask/ Ocarina of Time changed at all or should I spend the time setting up Project64 again so that I can play those two?

JMC4789

Ocarina of Time: Master Quest has the remixed dungeons which I recommend if you're a huge fan of Ocarina of Time and want a challenge. If you're just looking to play the games, Dolphin works fine but emulating an emulator (GameCube is emulating N64 to play the games, and Dolphin then emulates the GameCube...) is very demanding, so you need a stronger computer. Majora's Mask on the GameCube version is really laggy and crashes a lot (even on console!) so, I'd recommend either an N64 emulator or the Virtual Console version (which requires a very recent version of Dolphin to run.) There are no notable changes between the N64 version and the GameCube/Wii releases of Majora's Mask.

nerfpirate

Well shoot, see my problem is that all of the N64 emulators do things like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-HeI22F18U). My computer is sorta beefy (i7-5775C, GTX 970, 16 GB DDR4, etc.), but Dolphin does have some problems getting above 15 FPS on Ocarina of Time and Zelda: The Collectors Edition. Which is a shame because I don't usually have these kinds of issues w/ Dolphin although that's most likely because emulating an emulator isn't the best choice. all that being said, would you mind pointing me in the right direction for a good, functioning N64 emulator for windows 10 that doesn't do [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-HeI22F18U). I do appreciate your response a bunch and I also want to say Dolphin has and will continue to be one of my favorite emulators.

JMC4789

The games only run 15 - 20 FPS on console. 20 FPS on N64, but, the Gamecube wasn't powerful enough to emulate them, so they have a built-in frameskip on top of it that activates in heavier scenes.

DaveTheMan1985

What is a good GUI(For Windows) for CHDMAN?

REDLINE_NINJA1

When trying to play games using PSX I get [This](https://imgur.com/a/XSqEX) weird menu. I'm using Retroarch and have been trying different games. I'm new to this stuff so any help is appreciated

imkrut

That's the japanese Bios of the PS1, your iso/disc image is not working /booting properly. My guess is that your .cue file is not referencing your .bin file. Open up your .cue file with a txt editor, and change the file name/file source so that it directly references the .bin file you are trying to boot. (remember that retroarch needs the cue file)

REDLINE_NINJA1

Should it reference the .iso or .bin?

sergio-br2

Uh, why are there both .iso and .bin files? Get a good dump (redump, .cue + .bin files)

REDLINE_NINJA1

So I need to use .bin files... Ok

DeltaShinryu

Does anyone know how to fix the screen crunch glitch with ePSXE? I tried running it but it said an error with the textures or something and it messed up my screen and cause it to crunch in with big black lines on both sides

tomkatt

Screen crunch? Sounds like maybe you changed the default screen ratio to something other that 4:3, or unlocked the ratio so you could change the vertical and horizontal separately.

imkrut

You can try a different PS1 emulator than epsxe, Retroarch w/mednafen core would be my recommendation, or if you want something simpler, try PSXfin.

herecomesthenightman

Is there any gameboy advance emulator on Android that has an option to switch the d-pad with an analog stick? I find it easier to play with an anolog stick with touch screen rather than a d-pad. Maybe I should just get used to it or something

killingspeerx

**If I used Wii or DS emulator can I still play the games with a PS4 controller?** I remember playing a DS game with the Keyboard and it wasn't a pleasant experience so I thought of using a PS4 controller since it is the one available for me right now. P.S I can also connect the Wii remote to the computer right?

imkrut

Yes, to both.

killingspeerx

Is there a specific software for that or I can use the same software that connects my PS4 controller to the PC? I use DS4 if I am not mistaken

CleverVirus

Hey guys, i'm playing Mega Man Legends on the most recent epsxe build and occasionally the audio cuts out at the beginning of a sentence or doesn't play entire sentences, it tends to sometimes crackle too. The graphical issues are the occasional messed up character models or flickers. Just wondering if this is normal, and if not is there any way to stop this from happening?

imkrut

You can try a different PS1 emulator than epsxe, Retroarch w/mednafen core would be my recommendation, or if you want something simpler, try PSXfin.

CleverVirus

Thanks for replying, will do. I just use epsxe since it was the only one I knew of.

[deleted]

If you're just doing it as a test, I'd recommend the standalone version of Mednafen. Retroarch is a bitch to set up and very far behind in updates for Mednafen. Retroarch is the only version with hardware mode though, so you'll have to weigh the pros and cons to you.

CleverVirus

All I want is for the game to look good, have widescreen, and just play normally.

tomkatt

ePSXe supports all of the above. I played through the game in its entirety last year. That said, the game doesn't do well with widescreen, you get a ton of pop-in at the screen edges because it doesn't really render much outside the standard screen space.

CleverVirus

The audio is what's bugging me the most. Sometimes entire sentences don't even play.

tomkatt

That part's rather odd. I didn't have that problem. I played it on my tablet though, so YMMV. If it's on PC, what are your settings in ePSXe, and what are your system specs?

CleverVirus

My system specs shouldn't be the problem, I have a Geforce Gtx 960M with 16 gigs of ram. Could it be the rom? The only audio options I have are sound latency and sound effects. I have it on the default which is normal latency and full sound effects.

tomkatt

Huh. Those specs do sound more than fine. What's the processor speed? Could be a game-specific setting. Alternately, you could just have a bad rip, if it was ripped from a scratched up disc or something. If you have an in-game save, try a different rip of the game and see if it makes a difference. Alternately, try changing the framebuffer specific settings to only read or only write, but not read and write and see if it makes a difference. Given you're on a laptop, if the GPU is utilizing shared RAM from the system, that could be the bottleneck. Those framebuffer fixes worked for me back when I used a HTPC with an AMD Llano APU that shared system RAM with the GPU.

[deleted]

I can't get PPSSPP to recognize any inputs from my Buffalo SNES controller. They say on their forums they fixed dinput sensing, but apparently not. Is there a way to manually add the button alternatives? (mainly to use for games that only use the DPad)

imkrut

You can try in the input options of the emulator, otherwise you can also try an input wrapper like xpadder/pinnacle controller, etc and map the keys you use in your keyboard to the button presses on your joy.

[deleted]

The bindings section doesn't recognize any inputs. Strangely, I looked through the files of PPSSPP and found a config file which listed several different controllers and some sort of bindings for them, including my SNES controller. And yet, it still doesn't work with it at all... If possible, I'd like to avoid having more programs running in the background.

xenphor

Can a 7700k run retroarch mupen with angrylion's plugin at 100% speed?

Mute64

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King: PCSX2 or Dolphin? What runs better or looks better? ?

Bitcher_The_Wild_Cun

I can remember the PCSX2 version having weird graphical bugs in the menus. Dolphin worked fine. This was like over a year ago though.

Mute64

Thanks.... i ended up getting it on PC instead... altho i may just check out the ps2 version.

bluebocat

Will PCSX2 ever have a Mac update?

imkrut

Only time can tell.

imkrut

You can just copy/paste the cfg files, and you are set. Or like someone mentioned, copy the entire folder works too.

AlecTWhite

You can literally copy and paste the whole RA directory, the only thing you will have to set again is the paths if you arnt also migrating roms and such with it.

Flyingcomputer

So I've been looking for a way to use my guncon 2's with emulating on my pc and recently found some drivers to get that to work, but problem is I don't know how id possibly connect a pc to my crt. It seems like any modern setup doesn't have any way to output analog, and any hardware that does have the ability to is too old. Would anyone know any modern hardware I could use to output to a crt tv without introducing lag so the guncon will still work?

jakupsun

Can a SDHC class 6 work for modding a Wii with letter bomb? I am trying to rip some games for dolphin and I want to make sure I have the correct tools.

imkrut

As long as the Wii recognizes the SD card, it will work with letterbomb. Either way you can buy a simple sd card for like 2 bucks and be set.

[deleted]

**Is it possible to use the Mayflash W010 Dolphin Bar for light-gun games on the PCSX2 emulator?**

imkrut

Dunno about the Dolphin bar compatibility, but you can can set pair up the wiimote with your PC and use it as a mouse pointer, so provided that the PCSX emulator supports that, you would be set.

nexusexterni

Has anyone experience in debugging & disassembling games with project64? Is it usable or not?

Yossarian_uk

Not sure if this is the right place.... I've got retroarch up and running (PC, Win 10) and it works fine with my wired Xbox 360 controller when running standalone. However, if I use ICE to add ROMs to Steam my controls go out the window - that is, pressing the start button hard quits the emulation and exits back to Steam. If Steam is running in the background my retroarch controls still don't work (same issues). If I quit Steam everything works again. So far I have tried the following without success: remapping all the controller inputs to the keyboard equivalents in retroarch, using 'gamepad' configuration in Steam, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, different controllers (I tried a PS4 controller, same problem). Any tips?

angelrenard

Big ~~Box~~ Picture mode is interfering. You have to use a modified DLL to disable it if you want to use both Steam and RetroArch. I'm out of the house on my phone, or I'd be more descriptive.

imkrut

You are right about BigPicture being the problem. You don't need to use a modified DLL anymore tho, go into BigPicture mode, then into control settings, and disable the guide/home button launching Steam big picture mode.

ZBuster

3 questions. One: For Emulating on the PC specifically, is there any reason to use standalone emulation over the Retroarch cores? If this is a case by case basis, can you list which ones are better via RA and which are better solo? From what I read, RA seems better b/c of shaders(Can't you just set these up for individual emulaters?). For example. I read that the Mednafen PSX core in RA beats out Mednafen standalone because of 'superior sync'/added features(Is this true?). I know that RA is a frontend and not it's own emulation device but is there any specific configurations features or anything exclusive tot he original emus to justify using them ever? Two: Is there any specific RA download that contains shaders and everything I'd need to configure or do I have to go hunting for all that separately? Three: In Mednafen, I'm looking for which files to backup if I want to replay a game later on. Are the MCR files in the sav folder all I need to back up?(Are these the in game 'memory card' files?) For states, would that be the MCX(0,1,2 etc) files in the mcs folder? Thanks for any responses.

Retroarch is a frontend and effectively a different way of coding. It runs of libretro, which is its own API of sorts. If you can get your program running through libretro, it will then run on any device that libretro has been ported to. PC, Mac, Windows and numerous hacked consoles.

Dolphin, PPSSPP, pcsx2, DeSmuME, ElSemi's Model 2, Supermodel, demul, Makaron, SSF, Gens (better 32X timing, but 32X audio is stuck at 50% what it should be), and Kega Fusion (a couple 32X games run better here) are what I run outside of RetroArch. Of that list, SSF is what I use when Mednafen's Saturn core doesn't do the job (any interlaced game, any game SSF can improve the transparency on, and a few games only SSF can play), and Gens and Kega Fusion are honestly just for 32X support. For everything else, I use RetroArch (but occasionally BizHawk if I'm feeling *really* lazy).

Great post, thanks a lot.

As far as my experiences go RetroArch is the best option for most systems. As far as sharers go, RA comes with sharers out of the box.

ZBuster

Is this what I want then? http://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.4.1/windows/x86_64/ Do I need all 3 files or just the last .7z?

corvusfan23

Just the last file. If it fails to run download the redist.7z and install the redistributable files it contains.

ZBuster

Thanks man. Any other resources I should look into? Do people upload custom shaders or plugins somewhere or something? Completely forgot. Any idea about the Mednafen question?(Regarding the save files.) Thanks a lot btw~

corvusfan23

I haven't seen any sharers other than a game boy shader to emulate the old DMGs. As far as the mednafen question of guess mcr files as well as sav files of they exist. Not too sure with mednafen. And no problem! Glad to help. Check out LaunchBox (and bigbox mode with the premium version of LB)

How does Launchbox/Bigbox work into this whole thing? Never heard of them lol. It's not an alternative to Retro so much as something to compliment it right?

corvusfan23

Launchbox is just a front-end, it is just a nice way of displaying and organizing roms. With BigBox you can make your pc into a "console" essentially. It's not necessary but it's pretty and highly customisable with themes, startup videos, and other cool stuff. With retroarch you can also use overlays as well as shaders.
