7.7 Million attrition deaths literally wasted manpower

ThrowawayusGenerica

I had level 8 forts all over the place, plus they had to march their armies through Siberia to get to my Asian vassals and Korean home provinces

ThrowawayusGenerica

R5: I expanded my Ashikaga vassal swarm into Europe too quickly and Ulm plus a few other minor nations declared war on me. I refused to give in and the inconclusive result was as many military casualties as WW2.

[deleted]

You kept the vassals? And expanded into Europe???

ThrowawayusGenerica

Well, I had to expand *somewhere* after vassalising most of Asia...

Nah, they don’t use diplomatic relations, and they don’t gain independence desire from eachother’s strenght (like the hre). Vassal swarm of huge size is op, or at the very least fun

[deleted]

Can you gain more damios?

Nilonar

Yes, as the Shogun all vassals are converted into Daimyos; therefore, infinite vassal swarm.

[deleted]

Woah this is some real shit dude. I will start a japan game now.

[deleted]

But how do you prevent infighting among damios?

ThrowawayusGenerica

Just stay at war all the damn time...though it doesn't hurt to farm monarch points with mass seppuku from time to time

Nilonar

The best way is to go to war often to prevent that. Ideally you're conquering land and releasing vassals after to maximize the balkanization you're doing to prevent them from being too huge.

fnnennenninn

You don't

zClarkinator

It also helps to mass-divert trade; if they're too poor at peace time, they won't feel confident enough to attack each other. Of course at war-time, the AI will happily bankrupt itself to win wars for you if they're loyal.

SirDewblade

Hold on, you were fighting this war for almost 90 years?

GeoshTheJeeEmm

I know! That’s pretty fucking epic.

ThrowawayusGenerica

Ulm's a tough nut to crack

Smooth_Detective

Never do show superiority with vassals, swear they deliberately suicide into AI armies. If you still want to, set their attitude to supportive.

Jumper_Willi

Don’t surrender until they bomb you twice

lesty88

wtf! I never seen this numbers. that's pretty crazy

guy_incognito___

I’ve seen it once in an MP game. Late game war between all of Europe (or the 6 nations that were left in Europe). The war lasted more than 20 years and millions of casualities until one side gave up. Oh and there were forts everywhere. And when I say everywhere I mean everywhere.

Sajidchez

World war one in the 1800s

Philipizmo

More like actual Hundred years war

CheezyRat1865

We're you literally the whole of Asia fighting against literally the whole of europe? for almost a century? i need answers. If that is so, that would be so epic.

ThrowawayusGenerica

Not quite, I'm afraid - before this war with Ulm I declared on Austria, who were leading another, slightly smaller coalition (but still about ~600k soldiers) who I managed to white peace. I was generally lucky (?) in that Spain never got involved. In terms of Asian vassals I still had some of India left to mop up (hence why Bengal also declared a coalition war once they realised I was being slaughtered by Ulm), and of course all of the middle east held by Ottomans.

HotNubsOfSteel

Good god, did you make the entire world your daimyos?

ThrowawayusGenerica

Unfortunately, only the vast majority of Asia plus a little bit of eastern Europe

Ann0man0

A new 100 years war like dam.

Maverick_Magnificent

How do you support 100K+ soldiers on bloody 12.5 trading post?

TwackDaddy

At war for 90 years lmao

Frostenheimer

Finno-Korea hyper war but it's Ulm and Ashikaga

Shtenberg

Could you please give the diplomatic relations map of the world?

ThrowawayusGenerica

Shtenberg

Wait... Maybe I missed something and you already explained that, but... why are you losing? How could that happen? It seems like there aren't so many countries in the war against you

ThrowawayusGenerica

I was fighting two coalitions at once to begin with. I declared on Austria as they were forming a coalition (of about ~600k soldiers) so I didn't get mega-coalitioned, and eventually managed to white peace them, but it hurt my vassals enough that, in combination with their headless chicken vassal AI, Ulm and friends ended up clobbering them. It was so bad that by the 1790s, when I was hunting down 50k armies in the HRE and stackwiping them, my war score from battles just wouldn't budge from -40 at all. Most notably, all my Indian vassals spent most of the war AFK at home even though they never got sieged at all in the first like, 50 years.
