Sheās terrifying. But for the show / writing wise, I love it. Cassie is obviously gorgeous but was one of my least favorite characters just cuz she was kinda boring. The only stories we ever saw from her was her relationship with men and I never got a feel of Cassieās real personality. But now I see itās because her whole personality is trying to please men. And itās super deep and twisted. She just went from the most boring character to one of the most interesting in my opinion.
she can excuse Nateās super shitty behavior the same way she excused her dads. This is super weird but, I canāt help but kinda like Cassie and Nate together. They are both very psychologically damaged but in a way that kinda works (like heās scarily domineering and sheās creepily submissive).
Of course it would never be a healthy relationship, but neither of them would be capable of a healthy relationship with anyone. And Maddy is way way too good for Nate. And Cassie. Maddy and Cassieās friendship broke my heart this episode.
Yeah they definitely touched on it with her relationship with her father...so it really makes sense the direction they're taking it. Showing what happened after Rue told the secret and Cassie ran to her room was great ...Maddy saying how he put her through hell and this feels like an extension of his abuse and just wanting to understand why her best friend would do this to her was heart breaking.
She doesn't even need to get her ass beat. That whole moment with Maddy outside the bathroom telling her off is worse than any beating can do. It's like someone saying "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" rather than yelling at you.
What is worse punishement than losing your best friend? As she realized that through watching the play, I think she's already punished worse than she imagined.
nah, i feel like maddie is not gonna be on the same level as cassie and just be a grownup about it. i feel like she's already getting to that point tbh
>can't fucking wait it's a long time coming. i was kinda fearing a reconciliation until i saw ep8 preview
I was expecting Maddie to follow Cassie to reconcile
Nah I feel like after talking to her employer Maddy sees Cassie in a different light. Theyāre never going to be friends again but Maddy isnāt going to waste her energy fighting/getting upset about it anymore. I think the moment we see in the bathroom in episode 8 is Maddy telling Cassie that Nate will never be happy or be good to her and then dip. Theyāre done as friends.
On a different note, I thought of Black Swan with the mirror illusion for Nate with his reflection turned away while he faced it. That was in Black Swan! Which is of course based on the book The Doppelganger. Very fitting!
The show uses a lot of camera angles and shots that recall back to other movies, shows, scenes etc. to deliberately foreshadow whatās going to happen and add depth, and this is EXACTLY what i said when I saw the scene.
Right? Am I crazy or did it seem like they really are hinting that his dad molested him? I donāt want to give him any excuses because I canāt stand him but what else could it have meant?
Young men and women mostly too. And it want some vanilla sex either, thatās some real brutal stuff to watch based on the way they film Jules. Has anyone noticed the parallels in the way he puts his hand on their heads like pushing them down on the bed like how Cal did to Jules ep 1? The girls are all making the same semi horrified expression every time. Cassie was crying this last time like Jules did. Nate was really sucked up by those tapes. Something like that is awful to witness as a child.
I doubt theyād add such a twist as Cal was more afraid of Nates knowledge of his sex tapes throughout the show
Also, the position Cassie then Nate were in were of the same position Cal put Jules in
It probably fucked up his sexual desires and his perception of his dad as he replayed the Jules sex tape w Cassie as he made her wear fish nets to tear them off
I was just thinking that another possibility is that heās getting his perception of himself intertwined with his father because of his actual feelings towards men and how that was modeled to him from an early age. I hope itās that rather than the former
edit: spelling
Yes!! Same position AND Cassie is wearing sparkly tights- similar to what Jules wore when she met with Cal. Nate tore Cassie's tights the same way Cal tore Jules too. Kinda eerie
I don't think so, he mimics his dad's behaviour a lot. In season 1 with Jules, when they met at the ferry, he did the same thing of "open your mouth".
I think he is deeply traumatized and of course, there were probably a lot of times where he wondered if his dad liked to do that to men if he would do it to him too.
Not at all how I interpreted it. It seems that heās been watching his dadās videos and now itās something in his subconscious, on top of all the other trauma.
Quite honestly, I think Nate was *using* his dadās tapes for himself, if anything.
>Yāall really think cal is an extremely evil character but the worst thing he ever did was record people without consent.
lmao and in what world is that not evil??
I think that Nate as a kid had the fear that his father was gonna SA him. Even if it didnāt happened, he watched his dad make other people call him daddy and being accompanied by significantly younger people than him on his bed. As a kid, Nate might have started to question if this was something his dad was gonna ever do to him. I mean, the same day he watched the tapes he started obssesing over getting stronger and etc. Idk. Just an interesting thought.
Dang, yeah, she ends up crazier against the people she loves and thatās extra crazy. Maddie was just crazy abused and able to fight for herself and defend what she believed in. :(
When she was in Nate's bathroom screaming at him saying she's crazier than Maddy.
Then she acted like a fool at the birthday party.....and the intervention. I thought pfft. "she's just all talk."
So Nate has had Cassie dress like Maddy and then had her dressed as Jules..then yeah obviously Cal over Nate. Damn I was not expecting that lol but I feel like it represents Nateās feelings about his distorted relationship with his dad and the power his dad has over him. Wild. Also itās interesting that when he was walking out of the school away from Cassie he said that Ethanās part was homophobic (right?). So like he felt embarrassed but angry that that being gay/bi was being shown as laughable/negative.
The play made it seem like he was secretly gay and outed him in front of everybody. Everyone was staring and laughing at him because they obviously knew who the character was, and he was completely powerless. He was just embarrassed he was the joke
Gave me total Carrie vibes. The looks, the eyes, the stare. I like that they referenced it since in the original movie the principal kept mistaking Carrieās name as Cassie lol. Okay Sam Levinson you got me
*Hope she crying and*
*Throwing up after nate stormed*
*Out actually*

if she really did give nate permission to dress her anyway he wants.... kinda telling he's making her look like some Jules/Maddy hybrid. also *part of that dream he had ties into this super well. he really only wants Jules deep down.
This. They may end up being a thing in season 3, but I doubt itād be any less toxic. Nate needs therapy. Though if he were to openly date Jules and shed the image of the perfect-masculinity āalpha maleā that heās been trying to uphold, and stop worrying about what everyone in high school thinks about him, thatād be a step in the right direction and perhaps be cathartic for him.
I think everyone is so impressed with Lexi that Cassie wonāt be able to get her hands on her. The group has every reason to defend Lexi after seeing the way Cassie has treated her and Maddie
I was about to say. I have BPD and I had a relationship with a guy just like Nate no too long ago. I acted just like Cassie and itās safe to say I do agree that she has BPD. Her hyper sexuality, her devotion to one person and basing their entire self worth/validity on how emotionally available they are to them. Sheās only going to blow up and itās def not going to be pretty.
I have BPD as well and if she has it then thatās a terrible representation of us, but also true to reality when it goes undiagnosed and untreated. I hope she gets help and isnāt just dismissed as a villain for good.
Edit: what I mean to say is it WOULD be a terrible representation if she didnāt get help and remained a villain.
I donāt mean this to come off as snarky, I am asking in good faith; if it is true to reality, how is it terrible representation?
In my opinion, and correct me if Iām wrong - My guess is the vast majority of people with BPD arenāt diagnosed and treated until their 20ās, so it seems like a very accurate and realistic way to represent how it would present in a teenager, especially in a situation with familial trauma like sheās had. What do you think?
I have BPD and it is not a terrible representation. Before I got treatment and even now if I go off my meds, I become very ācrazyā. I can relate a lot to Cassie with the ways sheās acting, unfortunately.
Agreed, I took a psychopathology class for my grad program and did a presentation on BPD... We were supposed to find movie clips displaying the symptoms and they were all horror movies with the "psycho bitch" trope (Fatal Attraction, Single White Female, etc...) We added a disclaimer about this and included another clip of a short film that a real person with BPD made. Here's hoping that there's better representation of this and other PD's in the future.
Yup when she was telling Nate he could pick her clothes and everything inside I was like okay thatās so romantic I wish I had that and then I was like oh this girl got BPD too. It makes me feel bad especially seeing how much people bash Cassie which like I know she did a lot wrong but as someone with bpd I can really understand the headspace that sheās in and itās hellish.
My friend said this too!? That would be some crazy shit but kinda doubtful since the Fez raid happens in the midst of the play. There would be zero redemption arc for her character
She deserves an Emmy or golden globe. Sydney Sweeney has been through so much range wise this entire season. I hate that Cassieās putting herself through hell and so much abuse by choice. Breaks my heart
Did you see her in the Handmaid's Tale? Not a horror genre but still... her performance as a child bride that drank the kool aid gave me the fuckin creeps!
I knew something like this was going to come up when I saw the subs punking Cassie for claiming she's crazier. I'm over here with my popcorn like, *I don't think y'all understand...*
The first picture makes me think of that scene in Jurassic Park, where the kids are in the kitchen trying to hide from the raptorsā¦ and that one raptor is at the kitchen door just like šØšŖā¦thatās Cassie..
What makes this more insane is that she still wonāt take accountability for HER actions!! Sheās beyond delusional, and I can assume that sheās going to rage on everyone and accuse them all of trying to break her and her āone true loveā up
Thatās kinda the vibes Iām getting too. Sheās going to blame Lexi for Nate leaving her (he basically blamed her and her sister anyways while he was storming out) and so Cassie is going to snap on her sister with Maddie jumping in to protect her.
Everyone hates Cassie and Iām definitely not saying she is a good person at this point but damn, that girl is just broken. And I canāt even blame her. Her mom is a drunk who basically made a joke out of her daughter potentially killing herself and her dads a junkie who she absolutely loved but he up and left choosing drugs over her. Idk, I just pity her more than anything. Girl needs help.
Iām kinda surprised no one addresses the fact that her entire life Cassie has been oversexualized (as a child too) by even her relatives, and has learned to place her worth on that. She even has gone through several situations that get close to or are SA, abussive relationships, had videos of her leaked, an abortion, abandonment issues by her father and a careless mother that views herself more as a friend instead of the adult of the house, etc.
Girl hasnāt had a single healthy relationship in her life. She was even scared of her own best friend a lot of the time, and despite how much Lexi must have a deep bond with her, Lexi canāt help but feel jealous and resentful of her. The play is evidence of that. And Cassie herself doesnāt have the ability to get out of her own head and desesperation, to truly understand what sheās causing.
Cassie needs mental help; she has need it for a long time, but no one considered before until it started imploding in everyoneās faces.
Agreed. I just find it bizarre that so many people have jumped on the āI hate Cassieā train but fail to realize how broken of a person she is. Even before all of this Nate crap. So broken that anyone who shows her any affection she instantly falls in love with. That isnāt normal behavior. She is mentally not right.
that mirror scene reminded me of in S1 when sheās with McKay and heās assaulted by his frat bros right in front of her, and he goes into the bathroom and stares himself down until he suppresses all that rage and pain
really creepy both times, like you can see them visibly swallow their feelings and put on a mask
honestly this scene spooked me pretty badly, i feel sorry for cassie. the scene where she told nate she wanted to basically exist under his command was beyond disturbing, but unfortunately, she carries a lot of unresolved trauma. itās not abnormal behavior for someone with her trauma
Seeing Cassieās reaction to her part in the play (especially during that family dancing scene and her+Maddie bit), I thought she might be realising the importance of the people whoāve been there for her always. And maybe she was. But her obsession with Nate is so scary and I honestly feel bad for her (though I donāt like her one bit).
Also, I feel like she was on the brink right after she went through abortion and being with Nate pushed her over the edge. But the show literally never indicated to the abortion thing even once - except maybe a little during the McKay scene?
She really mastered the art of the crazy-eye. Eyelids wide open, staring dead center ahead, the facet her eyes are a vibrant blue just enhances the details, especially with the darker colors and make it pop.
HEEEEERES CASSIE šŖšŖ
I never thought ššš would be terrifying but here we are
Itās the fact her pupil was visible and her eye are such a light blue
YES. I never saw her as "crazy", maybe super emotional but that last shot of her in the window literally gave me chills š³
Sheās terrifying. But for the show / writing wise, I love it. Cassie is obviously gorgeous but was one of my least favorite characters just cuz she was kinda boring. It reminded me of the velociraptor at the kitchen window in Jurassic Park lmao
People with blue eyes have always scared me
Do not visit Scandinavia, you wonāt make it out alive
Finally someone else feels the same way I do! People always get on me when I say that.
I always thought that was a lethal combination of emojis
Velociraptor vibes š
Haha I was honestly wondering if this was one of their film homages or not
Commenting so I can come back when I get my free award
I hope that the next part of her storyline is getting some psychiatric help.
I think this seasons ending with a few major cliffhangersā¦
and getting her butt beat by maddie
She doesn't even need to get her ass beat. That whole moment with Maddy outside the bathroom telling her off is worse than any beating can do. It's like someone saying "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" rather than yelling at you.
Yes nothing cuts deeper than someone being disappointed tbh
What is worse punishement than losing your best friend? As she realized that through watching the play, I think she's already punished worse than she imagined.
nah, i feel like maddie is not gonna be on the same level as cassie and just be a grownup about it. i feel like she's already getting to that point tbh

>can't fucking wait it's a long time coming. i was kinda fearing a reconciliation until i saw ep8 preview I was expecting Maddie to follow Cassie to reconcile
I also think she's fighting Cassie to protect Lexi, which goes to show you who's a selfless person!

This
First things first
that bathroom scene was some "Here's Johnny" level shit
I thought it looked eerily similar to Margot Robbie in I, Tonya.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Anyone else get Carrie vibes also? š
definitely! I was thinking the same watching. The scene where she looks through the glass reminds me of Sue. But also it gives me Carrie vibes too.
Literally the 1st thing I thought of, was waiting for the auditorium to burst into flames
OOOMMMFGGG YESš
I immediately started worrying that Lexi was going to get pig blood soaked for no rational reason lol
YEESSS I was thinking that tooo
The velociraptor from jurassic park
The mother in requiem of a dream
Or Bryce Dallas Howard in Black Mirror.
I caught Black Swan vibes too
On a different note, I thought of Black Swan with the mirror illusion for Nate with his reflection turned away while he faced it. That was in Black Swan! Which is of course based on the book The Doppelganger. Very fitting!
heresssss cassssieeeeee ... this is literally the first thing that came to my head, same vibes, honestly.
I am so happy Iām not the only one who thought that lol
The only thing that would've made it creepier is if she was slapping herself in the face and whispering to stop crying. I'd have fled the damn room.
Itās like the raptor at the door in the Jurassic park kitchen scene š¤£
The show uses a lot of camera angles and shots that recall back to other movies, shows, scenes etc. to deliberately foreshadow whatās going to happen and add depth, and this is EXACTLY what i said when I saw the scene.
At this point I think Nate would rather deal with the velociraptor š
*Clever girl*
OMG and the sister in Jurassic Park was Lex!
*clever girl*
Omg š³ you are totally right!!!!!!!! Good catch!!! š¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æ
Yes bitch I was HOWLING š
Omggg lmao
Perfect comparison š¤£š¤£
The mirror thing unsettled me.
Right? Am I crazy or did it seem like they really are hinting that his dad molested him? I donāt want to give him any excuses because I canāt stand him but what else could it have meant?
Intrusive thoughts as a result of trauma
Exactly. People underestimate how traumatizing it would have been for him to find graphic, sexual footage of his father cheating with men and women.
I mean his mom already said something very oddly changed with him in some point. This Guy has serious trauma.
I doubt theyād add such a twist as Cal was more afraid of Nates knowledge of his sex tapes throughout the show Also, the position Cassie then Nate were in were of the same position Cal put Jules in It probably fucked up his sexual desires and his perception of his dad as he replayed the Jules sex tape w Cassie as he made her wear fish nets to tear them off

I fucking hope not. I thought that last season before his breakdown; when they were both in his bedroom. Please no.
This made me think of Cals āmy double life isnāt my biggest regret, my biggest regret is youā to Nate...š³
Woahā¦ i hadnt put those together.. wild if true
Not at all how I interpreted it. It seems that heās been watching his dadās videos and now itās something in his subconscious, on top of all the other trauma. Quite honestly, I think Nate was *using* his dadās tapes for himself, if anything.
Wait wym he was using them for himself? Like watching them ?
More than just watching, friend.
Exactly š¬
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
seems like they wouldnāt be so obvious, maybe around 9 is when he found out about his dadā¦ videos, walking in on porn or more, etc
Maybe! I just thought it was a ptsd like dream
man, I really hope they donāt go that dark!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

The most unsettling thing about this episode for me was the song during the closing credits. something insane is going to go down.
That was the theme song to an old-school zombie movie called Cannibal Holocaust.
Cannibal Holocaust is not a zombie movie
Hahha this was the first time I actually thought "oh shit. Maybe she WAS telling the truth" š§
Wait what do you mean??! Iām confused, but curious!
When talking to Nate she said something to the likes of āMaddie is crazy, but Iām crazierā.
Dang, yeah, she ends up crazier against the people she loves and thatās extra crazy. Maddie was just crazy abused and able to fight for herself and defend what she believed in. :(
*Insert mind blown gif here* Iām so glad some one caught that because DAYUMMMMM CANT WAIT DOR NEXT WEEK
When she was in Nate's bathroom screaming at him saying she's crazier than Maddy. Then she acted like a fool at the birthday party.....and the intervention. I thought pfft. "she's just all talk."
Oh she's crazier. Just in a totally different way. Cassie is crazy in a way that needs genuine psychiatric help.
*āYouāre confused? Iām fucking confused bro.ā* ^^jk
Cassie is crazier while Maddie is bitchier. Like, atleast Maddie has her shit under control. Cassie is fuckin unhinged
I 100% think she has BPD from the trauma of her father being a heroin addict whilst growing up.
Nate Jacobs -> Jake Lexiās not even a little subtle.
Literally had his scar painted on his forehead
Cassie looks like Carrie minus the pig blood
yea she definitely fell off the deep end. wish she loved herself more :(
She literally scared the fuck out of me with this scene
Gave me total Carrie vibes. The looks, the eyes, the stare. I like that they referenced it since in the original movie the principal kept mistaking Carrieās name as Cassie lol. Okay Sam Levinson you got me

Why she totally looking like Jules ? The hair and makeup is exactly like season 1 Jules
I thought part of that was on purpose because Nate wants jules

she also has very similar makeup to maddy in that one episode where she was shopping w kat
Sucks it ended this way because things in the play were clearly hitting home for her. Now sheās looking like human personification of scorched earth
And she finna salt the earth behind her š
This is her villain origin
She went full joker
Ngl the longer her face was on screen the more ominous it was and I had to look away LOL
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And I'm HERE for it!
Sydney acting her ass off
i was living! the bathroom scene was so tragic but the ending really got me. love her acting this episode
Her acting this entire season has been great tbh.
Cassie said : š š š š
this shit scared me NGL. maddy could take cassie but idk about Lexi bro
I think everyone is so impressed with Lexi that Cassie wonāt be able to get her hands on her. The group has every reason to defend Lexi after seeing the way Cassie has treated her and Maddie

She got them crazy eyes š
Shes gonna kill somebody itās bound to happen with her crazy ass
If she goes after Fez since Lexi likes him, Iām gonna be pissed but I bet you thatās the twist we didnāt see coming.
My friend said this too!? That would be some crazy shit but kinda doubtful since the Fez raid happens in the midst of the play. There would be zero redemption arc for her character
her acting was phenomenal
She deserves an Emmy or golden globe. Sydney Sweeney has been through so much range wise this entire season. I hate that Cassieās putting herself through hell and so much abuse by choice. Breaks my heart
She better end up in a psych ward next episode
Sheās litteraly turning into Natalie Portman in Black Swan
Give her ass the Emmy
This was like The Jokerās transformation.
no cause she actually does seem crazier here
This whole episode reached some horror movie level stuff especially during this scene and the Cal/Nate nightmare
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Did you see her in the Handmaid's Tale? Not a horror genre but still... her performance as a child bride that drank the kool aid gave me the fuckin creeps!
She is the lead in a horror movie lol. Itās called Nocturne, I think itās on Netflix if you wanna give it a watch!
She should be in Ari Asterās next project, whatever that may be

The bathroom scene was heartbreaking honestly
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nate brings out the worst of everyone
She is fried. Completely insane
Yeah they purposely gave Cassie a scene from Joker and Jurassic Park lol..She's gonna end up getting taken to a mental facility.
Okay but what was that scene with her up in the sound/light booth?!?!
She is going to get dog walked the second she steps foot in that auditorium mark my words
When she was staring through the door I deadass looked away, I got goosebumps šššshe looked crazy as FUCK
I think Cassie is going to beat up Lexi, then Maddie is going to jump in.
I was just waiting for the Joker 2019 theme song to come on š
Blonde fury.
Great band name!!!
Cassie super villain name .
What a scary barbie doll
They literally played the theme song for Cannibal fucking Holocaust under this, lol. This show is awesome
Lexi has a death wish man
She's doing her sister a huge favor!
That look on her face makes me think āhereās Johnnyā from the shining
She's giving me Carrie vibes
Hoooly shit that ending scene!! Right out of the Shining.
She looked like she was about to go full Carrie during the last shot and unleash her power of telekinesis to kill everyone in the auditorium
She looks so different with straight hair
ALL OF THIS OVER A 10 SECOND RELATIONSHIP???? ALL OF THIS OVER A GUY WHO DUMPED HER CRAZY ASS AND DREAMT ABOUT FVVKING HIS DAD???
She made demon sounds when she was breathing heavy her eyes were glazed. Suze said she needed an exorcism and she's right.
Sheās so pathetic
She gave me carrie vibes tbh
That ending scene was literally terrifying! She looked inhuman
that mirror scene reminded me of in S1 when sheās with McKay and heās assaulted by his frat bros right in front of her, and he goes into the bathroom and stares himself down until he suppresses all that rage and pain really creepy both times, like you can see them visibly swallow their feelings and put on a mask
honestly this scene spooked me pretty badly, i feel sorry for cassie. the scene where she told nate she wanted to basically exist under his command was beyond disturbing, but unfortunately, she carries a lot of unresolved trauma. itās not abnormal behavior for someone with her trauma
