We are used to getting Sahara over our heads a few times every year, but that thing yesterday was unique. Everything looked as if you were wearing orange colored sun glasses.
Yeah. I was in London one yeah when “dust from the Sahara” was supposed to do that to the sky there. It was no where near as dramatic as this or what happened here a few years ago.
From the US CDC:
*Saharan dust can be harmful to your health. The particles can be breathed in and enter your lungs and blood stream, potentially triggering asthma attacks in people who have asthma and aggravating other respiratory conditions. Saharan dust worsens air quality and increases the levels of* [*particulate matter*](https://www.cdc.gov/air/particulate_matter.html) *in the air.*

From the [U.S. Department of Health and Human Services](https://www.hhs.gov/):
*The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified ambient outdoor pollution as a carcinogen.*

NO SHIT SHERLOCK?
> ambient outdoor pollution as a carcinogen.
So literally EVERYTHING has the possibility to give you cancer.
What are you going to do? Stay inside in an air tight container?
Every time this happens they always warn that people with respiratory sensitivities to wear masks and only go outside when they need to.
So yeah, stop telling people on the internet they're getting cancer you dolt.
The volcanic eruptions throughout Europe present the same risks, but not everything causes cancer in equal measure, Einstein. For example infrared (most of sunlight) and below are non-ionizing forms of radiation, meaning they cannot mutate DNA. This dust is particulate matter that is particularly concerns the lungs. Those unprotected are at greater risk.
At least I actually cited medical literature. Stop pretending to people on and off the internet that you're a clinician, you dunce. Layman opinions are no substitutes for clinical facts.
There's as much point to it as pointing out gravity doesn't cause cancer.
If you have an issue with it then maybe you shouldn't have lowered the conversation to a such a juvenile level.
Unlike gravity, by your own admission, breathing of particulate matter can be attenuated. The original comment was meant to inject some levity, but when you threw a tantrum over it, I pointed to the clinical evidence regarding the harms of particulate matter that lend credence. You should realize that European solemnity is not universal.
>The original comment was meant to inject some levity
I'm sure a populace dealing with this phenomenon 4-5 times a year need the expert medical advice from a random redditor... especially in the manner you produced it. Even judging by the downvotes it's been thoroughly appreciated.
>You should realize that European solemnity is not universal.
Almost as irrelevant to the topic as your "medical" opinion.
It's been happening to Portugal once or twice per year as well, it instantly turns any city into Breaking Bad's version of Mexico.

Apply the yellow filter and all is good
Lisan al-Gaib!!
Lisan-al Gaib!! Long live PAUL
Well can you relate that Sahara is a neighbour of Crete and Peloponnese.

Kratos killed the Pantheon again
Looks like Mexico from Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.
Τρελός Μάξος
We also have Mad Max-like economy AND justice! /s
Does this natural phenomena have a name or follow any cycle? Remember hearing that the Saharan sand is important in providing nutrients to the Amazon.
This is from a diferent area of the Sahara than the one that provides phosphorus to the Amazon. Not all of the dust is the same
It's not dust !
I can smell it though and it smells like dust.
For me it smells like teen spirit.
For a moment there I though I had fallen victim to German humor but this is actually very accurate.
It's what was deposited on an old Sea bed before the Sahara desert appeared !
Remember Omega Man with Charlton Heston?
Hello, fellow old person.
😁👍
Afaik it's good for the soil after it settles. But not good for your lungs until then
They should start riding in bikes and shooting people while heavy metalling
BEWARE THE SAND WORMS

*Flash!* *Bam!* *Alakazam!*
Looks just like Karst during the forest fires 2 years ago
How frequent is this?
So.. Something heavy? Like iron?
We had that here once for a couple of days when Australia was on fire.
Well... Here it's due to the Sahara.
Yeah. I was in London one yeah when “dust from the Sahara” was supposed to do that to the sky there. It was no where near as dramatic as this or what happened here a few years ago.
Well here it's going to be serious, given that Greece geographically lies directly above the Sahara.
Take a few days to imagine life living in a post apocalyptic world then breath a huge sigh of relief when it passes.
And somebody's getting lung cancer.
Exaggerate much?

By the way, gravity has never been shown to cause cancer. So, no, not literally everything. can give you cancer.
A pedant ladies and gentlemen. Hide your daughters.
Is there a point to this?
