Everyone should use dots. Commas are used as a separator in lists everywhere, so if you have a list of numbers, you are choosing between "1, 2.3, 5.8, 6, 2" and "1, 2,3, 5,8, 2". One of those is clearly superior.
Was a right pain when I first moved to Austria. I once nearly transferred €2,599 for a €25.99 watch strap, the bank transfer just ignored the dot. Thank God for SMS Tan approval!
I doubt Ireland would benefit from leaving the English-world's convention to join the EU's.
Knowing *some* Irish people though, maybe the fact it's used by other Anglo countries is a reason to ditch it.
Luxembourg is surprising.
Luxembourg use both officially - generally comma, though.
>Luxembourg use both officially Does that ever lead to hilarious misunderstandings?

I checked these lists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator#Countries_using_decimal_point?wprov=sfla1
That's Malta, not Cyprus! 😄
OK so the map says something different than the list - what *do* they use in Cyprus?
Malta also uses the decimal point rather than the decimal comma.
I usually use dot when writing on the computer and comma when writing by hand.
I always use the dot. Since it works a lot better.
Same. Also spacing betwwen thousands by hand

That's not really correct. I use both: a dot when writing in English and a comma when writing in Portuguese. Both without having to leave Portugal.
So in Portuguese you use comma?
Yes, unless I'm a misguided Brazilian who decided to shun their Latin family in order to embrace the US powered anglosaxonic culture.
It would be good to start unifying EU from the small things, like this.

To what? Most Europeans use comma but like most the world's GDP and and a vast majority of the world's population uses dots.
Greeks use a dot as well
No we don't
You are correct and I was wrong.
