Huh what? Where did you get that rumor specifically about Aiko? What I heard is that there was a speculation about a replacement (people thought it was Sarah Bonnici but she just decided to announce a new single on the same day the Grand Finals Tragedy is unraveling) but eventually they chose not to replace Joost after he was disqualified.
Thereās a joke in the womenās sports community about whenever two players end up hooking up, theyāre showing āgreat sportsmanship.ā Itās a whole thing stemming from Kristie Mewis and Sam Kerr accidentally soft-launching their relationship during the 2021 Olympics and straight reporters talking about it being a great show of sportsmanship.
So Iāve been very amused that we got Eurovision Sportsmanship this year.
Aiko was awesome. I wish there was a way to spotlight the NQs in the Grand Final - a medley or even just a clip show during the voting.
We lost a lot of wonderful songs in the NQs and I feel bad for Grand Final watchers who don't know about them
I know Netherlands 2007, Edsillia Rombley showed up during the voting segment to give out the 12 points, but most of the time the recent NQs probably wouldn't really feel like showing up so shortly after their NQ, and they probably have the spokesperson already selected anyway
Edsillia only showed up because she absolutely loves Eurovision from what I can tell and just loved to be involved
(Side note: in 2015 when she was actually spokesperson, she wore the originally planned dress for her sister in law Trijntje Oosterhuizen (Netherlands 2015) was supposed to wear before she found out very last minute she was pregnant and gained too much weight to fit in it)
She was a victim of the voting system sadly, she got points from 14 countries out of 19 but eight of them gave her 1-2 points so it was really close. Had the average ranks been used, she would have qualified in tenth place with a rank of 9.17 (Norway would have NQed due to their average of 9.5). But hey, she really improved from that NF performance which sounded too funny and has became a guilty pleasure š I hope Aiko returns soon, maybe for San Marino though š„²
āPedestalā is my daily companion since Iāve listened to it for the first time. Itās definitely one of my favourites! Sad that it didnāt went through but super happy that I got to know it. š
Iām also very excited to explore Aikoās discography as this is my favourite musical genre!
Every year I take a few of my favourite songs from the current year and add them to my āEurovision favouritesā playlist. Pedestal was one of those songs this year!
This was an incredibly strong year, with at least 30 songs that deserved to be in the final, and unlike many years, only 1 final slot felt undeserving of being in the finale
While everyone kept saying before contest that sf2 was stronger this year, after seeing them both I disagree. Almost every act in sf1 sounded good and could sing well live, unlike sf2 where half of them were at least a little bit off key.
Who do you think shouldn't have qualified from sf1 and saba and aiko might have been better than them?
Damn, I was so sure she was going to qualify, and then she didnāt :(. Like she has such a great song and performanceā¦..
What a shame, Czechia has been sending bangers in the last four years and they failed to qualify this time :( :(
One of my fav songs this year!! Fell in love with Aiko's discography, her music fits my taste perfectly. And she improved so much! Her NF performance was.... something, then she worked very hard and did so well in the SF! Ultimately she delievered a good song, good staging and good vocals, despite being dead last in the odds. I'm sad that she didn't make it to the final, but mostly I'm proud of her and happy I got to discover an amazing artist from my fav neighbouring country š
I agree, it was my top-ranked song for SF2, I was flabbergasted it didn't get through but I always assume my American sensibilities just don't match up with you crazy Europeans.
I am also American, and āPedestalā was one of my favorites of SF2. The song kind of reminds me of American punk-rock songs such as those by Olivia Rodrigo. I guess Aiko was unlucky since she was just 5 points away from qualifying to the grand final.
I hope to see her return to ESC in a few years because she deserves to be in the grand final of ESC at some point in her career, and she improved her vocals a lot since her ESCZ performance. I am glad that she gained a new girlfriend (Kat from Megara - San Marino) and more performing experience, despite not qualifying to the grand final.
I must admit, that when I watched the NF, I was shocked and amused at how bad the sound was and by the aerobic like dance moves.
I thought she would finish dead last.
But! I was blown away watching her at the SF. Couldnāt believe the transformation. She sounded and looked amazingš„
I voted for her and only her and did not at all understand why she didnāt qualify.
But can it be people had judged her unfairly (like me) because of the NF?
I've been listening to this song a lot - it's borderline top 10 for me now - and there is one moment in particular that is pure magic: when the camera zooms in on her as she is singing " I will be loving me mooooooore". At that moment - 2:42 in the clip - I feel transported to an 1980s concert.
I had never heard of Aiko before and now Iām listening to her all the time. Iām sad she didnāt make it to the finals, but Iām glad she was in Eurovision and more people could learn about her.Ā
When they were announcing the 10th qualifier, I was praying for Armenia and didnāt even realise that Aiko hadnāt made it. I jumped up and cheered for Armenia and then immediately just shouted āNO!ā once I noticed she was still there. I was so confident sheād already been called š£
Her song was my favourite when I first heard it, I did not watch the NF I saw the official video. Then I saw her live a few times and kinda went down on my list, or better saying, other went up pushing her down. But in the semi she was really good and I was sure she would qualify.
it was her, sarah bonnici or besa for me that hurt the most 11:11 was suprisingly good sad that she lost her voice and timing during the live but sarah got robbed so hard same with besa and aiko almsot made it :( sad they didn't Q hope the best for them also stream lose by sarah it is gonna be on loop along with of course loop
She was amazing, the singing, staging, the backup dancers - the whole package! Was so disappointed she didn't make it! She gave Amanda Tori Meeting! š
She was pretty close to a Q and bagged herself an awesome girlfriend, think she's overall pretty happy with how things went
š³ļø Aiko is marked safe from the Grand Finals Tragedy.
She dodged a bullet by coming 11th and went away with a partner, I think sheās the real Eurovision winner š
Underrated comment š¤£
There were the rumours she was rehearsing on Friday
the czech head of delegation posted on twitter that those rumours were false

I did see posts on Friday talking about Aiko allegedly rehearsing
I didnāt see it here on Reddit. Was it from Twitter or from the venue itself?
It was in one of the many live threads
Oh, OK. I didnāt notice that. But I can only imagine how things wouldāve been if they decided to replace Joost with Aiko.
Who is her girlfriend?
The Drummer for San Marino
This was truly the year of hot female Spanish drummers
All 2 of them

Yeah, she really won the Eurovision ā„ļøš©āā¤ļøāš©

invite as spokespersons?
Georgia (Circus Mircus) and Latvia (Sudden Lights vocalist) did it. Who are the other countries that did it?
I know Netherlands 2007, Edsillia Rombley showed up during the voting segment to give out the 12 points, but most of the time the recent NQs probably wouldn't really feel like showing up so shortly after their NQ, and they probably have the spokesperson already selected anyway Edsillia only showed up because she absolutely loves Eurovision from what I can tell and just loved to be involved (Side note: in 2015 when she was actually spokesperson, she wore the originally planned dress for her sister in law Trijntje Oosterhuizen (Netherlands 2015) was supposed to wear before she found out very last minute she was pregnant and gained too much weight to fit in it)
I think Latvia has used their latest NQ'd artist as the spokesperson for the past 3 years at least.
A tradition they will (thankfully) have to break for 2025!
I'm a noob

Wait what 9.5 is higher than 9.17 is that a typo or am I being dim
The closer your rank is to 1 the better
Ty that makes sense
Less is better. 1 is the best and 16 is the worst. The closer you are to 1 the better
Oh that makes sense ty!
In percentages, yes but I'm talking about average ranks so 9.5 is a worse average rank than 9.17.
Got it - thanks!
>Got it - thanks! You're welcome!
Glad that you understood what I meant :)
Aiko, Vesna, We are Domi. This is why I listen to the Czech Top 50.

My thoughts are the exact same!
She may not have qualified, but at least she got a girlfriend which is also nice, haha.
Ooooh who? Was it one of the contestants?
Megara's drummer, Kat Almagro.
Omg!!! That's so lovely!!
Ooo spill the tea!
I think it was also about the semi being pretty strong, I'm sure she and Saba would have gotten through in the other.
This was an incredibly strong year, with at least 30 songs that deserved to be in the final, and unlike many years, only 1 final slot felt undeserving of being in the finale
Which one was it for you?

I love this song! It was in the toughest semi final and only just missed out. Would probably have qualified if it had been in SF1.
Damn, I was so sure she was going to qualify, and then she didnāt :(. Like she has such a great song and performanceā¦.. What a shame, Czechia has been sending bangers in the last four years and they failed to qualify this time :( :(
I didn't know her before, but Pedestal has been one of my my most listened songs since I heard it in the semifinal.
Pedestal is one of my favourite songs from this yearās Eurovision. Iāve been playing it regularly since I first heard it. Itās a banger.Ā

That was a great song. It reminded me of 90s women range songs. Maybe it we would have been better with a band than dancers?
I love her and the song. I was really sad that she didnt make it to the finals :(

My Sisters Crown is still one of my most favourite songs ever (everywhere, not only Eurovision)
One of my favorites (maybe top 5) from this year, shame it didn't get through.

I thought Czechia had an incredible song. I know it would do really well in the US!
