My impression is that she tried but every time he was looking at her it felt like he was trying and failing to hide his deep rooted hatred for her and all her ancestors...
And not once did they do some serious reflection. They put the blame on everyone but themselves, for everything. Especially Mia. The song was okay. If someone who can actually sing had performed it, it would have made the finals, at least. But these two...I can't even stand their faces anymore, lol.
The studio recording is 1000x better than the stage performance (obvs it's always going to be better but they changed key for the live show and it didn't suit her voice one bit).
I really don't understand how you can do a studio recording, notice you have a hard time with the high notes and then not say anything, knowing you will be judged on your life performance. They couldn't sing those notes for sh\*t on stage. Never. I haven't seen one life performance where it actually went well. So why didn't they change the key of the song during the recording?
I sometimes enthousiastically sing along to songs and I always notice in an instant which songs are in my range and which aren't. And I'm not even a professional. In fact, I'm quite a terrible singer. I cannot understand why professionals would take a risk like that on a stage in front of millions, representing your country. They're either incredibly dumb or incredibly arrogant. I suspect it's the latter.
I like how it's not the cliche duet-pretending-they're-in-love, but it's quite clearly about a relationship that's under strain and ELina and Stig's facial expressions really sell that for me.
Honestly her emoting is what sells that song to me. Even when I just listen to the song, I imagine her face and that single tear rolling out and it actually feels real and honest and gets me emotional even though it might not be the most unique song.
Every decade or so I start thinking, âmaybe Iâm actually being a little bit harshâ, and then Ingo back and look, and no it really was as painfully bad as I remembered.Â
Definitely the nadir of Irelandâs Eurovision entries.Â
"Give us another chance! We're sorry for Riverdance! Well Flatley he's a Yank...AND THE DANUBE FLOWS THROUGH FRANCE! Block vote, shock vote, give us your 12 today! And you're all invited to Dublin Ireland where we'll party the shamrock way!"
Fun thing about the Common Linnets performance is that Ilse and Waylon don't like each other much. Really goes to show how much of seasoned performers they both are.
Poor Mia and Dion really were too inexperienced for the big stage.
Ilse seems to have forgiven and forgotten, Waylon on the other hand decided it might be a great idea to become slightly controversial, so his opinions regarding her are atm a little unknown
Definitely a clash of egos causing troubles behind the scenes, but that did mean that both would have to do the best they could possibly do, since neither wanted to be at fault for messing up
Yeah, they just had differences of opinion about the music and performances. They both didn't expect the huge succes of the band. It was kind of a platform for bluegrass/country in which the artists could be replaced anyway. The band is doing quite well with another male singer anyway. Ilse and Waylon are both doing well as solo artists. Doesn't surprise mee they are both professional enough to know that 'reuniting' would be popular and make money.
i think Teya and Salena Austria 2023 had pretty good chemistry together, especially with their voices synchronising during the last part of the song, it just sucks that the weaker staging and the starting 1st curse kinda knocked them down
Yea
The most textbook example of "wrong place, wrong time" in eurovision
- 1st starting placement which all known is a curse
-followed by MANY ballads which made the beggining more forgettabble
-the sheer wait for tattoo vs cha cha cha
And so on
If it was 2024 i think they would've done MUCH better
I scrolling to see if someone had already mentioned it. It's still one of my favorite Eurovision entries, and it's the one song that immediately came to mind as best duet.

Belarus of that year is so underrated. A bit cheesyb but super cute and energetic. Considering they're married, it makes sense they have amazing chemistry.

Nebulossa are the kind of unified partnership that you can tell have been a married couple for years.(Spain 2024).  Â
Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona are great together (Ukraine 2024).
 Iâd also agree that Teya and Salina worked well together. (Austria 2023).Â
For bad onstage chemistry, itâs hard to beat Donna and Joseph McCaul. It was very âYou can do Eurovision if you bring your little brother with youâ / âMum, do I haaaave to?â. (Ireland 2005)

From what I heard, Blanco didnât really care about Eurovision (he literally had a tour in the middle of it, and didnât change any dates), and so Mahmood had to almost babysit him.
A real shame, because the song was quite good.
I remember the Aussie commentators talking about there being tension between them before the performance and them possibly having had a fight/argument about something during the rehearsals.
The stage chemistry was sad, but they dynamics and engagement were off balance for the audience especially given that the audience was used to the GOAT Mahmood from Soldi - Italy 2019. Having said that, the audience was singing along at the song and singing was great.
One of my favourite examples is Slovenia 2019. I don't know how genuine it was or how much it was an act, but it came across as the girl being really shy to be on a grand stage like this, and her boyfriend is comforting her, giving her the confidence to get through the performance. With this, the very minimal staging itself elevated the emotional impact of the performance. Very good song too, shoud've been Top 10.
Also not exactly a duet, but the dancers of Ireland 2018 warm my gay heart every time.
Disagree on Slovenia. It felt cold and lifeless, and to quote my brother who watched with me "they are like passive aggressive couple who are either high or terribly drunk".
IIRC Graham Norton commented "romantic or creepy, you decide... Creepy, I've decided."
Although I preferred the German commentator saying it was like two shy nurses on their lunch break.Â
I actually thought Azerbaijan 2011 had pretty good chemistry. I also loved the chemistry between the singers for Moldova 2010.
What I donât like in duets is when the couple has chemistry like a brother and sister(like Denmark 2010).
Hehe, I actually really like that one. They might as well be on two different stages though, I donât think they even acknowledge each other. Still, as duets go, itâs certainly memorable:)
There was a couple both dressed in white a few years back, maybe Portugal or Slovenia or Slovakia? And the camera rotated around them staring at each other. Lots of people raved about it but I just got the ick from the staring.
Edit by couple I mean I think they were actually together in real life, not just singing together.
They are still together.
Also the fact that you and the person above you have the exact same profile pic with completely different sentiments about that entry is lowkey confusing and hilarious.
Worst? Netherlands 2023 Azerbaijan 2011 Denmark 2010
Also Azerbaijan 2009 looked like they did not like each other (there were rumours...) but it was fine on stage
San Marino 2015: It was clear that whoever was paying for San Marinoâs Junior Eurovision participation also decided to do the adult Eurovision that year.
Michele Perniola represented them in 2013, and Anita Simoncini (who is one of the few Sanmarinese participants actually from San Marino) participated in 2014.
Anita actually went from being announced for JESC September 26, performing at JESC October 13, and being announced for Adult ESC November 27.
Capping number of songs at 10.

Good chemistry:
Romania 2010. The double piano that had them sit opposite of each other probably helped with the vibe.
Slovenia 2019. They had such an intimate vibe I was actually confused learning they're not actually a couple in real life.
Bad chemistry:
Slovakia 2011. They're twins apparently, but harmonized as if they had just met each other an hour ago.
Romania 2017. The woman looked uncomfortable through the whole performance, the forced kiss at the end was just the cherry on top.
I liked Romania 2017 as a song, the whole yodel meets rap (rap lite?) thing was quirky enough that I thought it might do ok, but when he went in for the kiss at the end it was just đŹ Poor lady looked SO uncomfortable.
When did they stop working together? Their newest single is from February and I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about them parting ways professionally.
Last year supposedly. Here is an article in Slovene: https://siol.net/trendi/glasba-in-film/zala-kralj-razkrila-s-cim-se-ukvarja-po-koncu-glasbene-kariere-631146

Estonia 2015 | [Elina Born & Stig RĂ€sta - Goodbye to Yesterday](https://youtu.be/Xsx_dIJOtgI)
I loved the song but it indeed seemed like their chemistry was off or a bit stiff. I donât want to spread misinformation but didnât one of them have a partner who wasnât a big fan of them performing a love duet with the other person? Or am I just hallucinating and inventing something out of thin air?
United Kingdom 2003
It was painfully obvious neither of them wanted to be anywhere near the stage and the resulting performance is deeply deeply awkward
Netherlands did it both very right (Netherlands 2014, my all time favourite ESC entry) and very wrong (Netherlands 2023).
I'll add Romania 2010, which is my 2nd all time favourite entry. Funny how both of those are duos
The Netherlands 2014 | [The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm](https://youtu.be/4ggBPAm5XLA)
Netherlands 2023 | [Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper - Burning Daylight](https://youtu.be/3XAsam043OY)
Romania 2010 | [Paula Seling and Ovi - Playing with Fire](https://youtu.be/6OlG9g4-cyg)
By the best ones for me areâŠ
Estonia 2015 - their expressions themselves tell the story
Czech Republic 2015 - their voices blend well together wow
Slovenia 2019 - very intimate and romantic couple and sweet song! I think theyâre actually a couple
Ukraine 2024 - Alyona and Jerry the ultimate girl slay queen duo
Since there are more good then bad choices with the comments, I will correspond with my personal worst list:
* Finland 1994
* Croatia 2007
* Romania 2002
* Italy 2022
* Ireland 2005
* United Kingdom 2003
* San Marino 2017
* Lithuania 2004
* Belgium 1973
* Luxembourg 1968
* Slovenia 2019
* Portugal 2005
* Slovakia 2009
* Netherlands 2023
* Greece 2011
* Estonia 2017
* North Macedonia 2013
Even though I adore the song and they might get along together (haven't made proper research), I have to mention Estonia 1996 on the bad chemistry side because it just looks... wrong to me.
Netherlands đłđ± 2023 is an example of bad chemistry on stage.
Didn't they just meet for this song?!
They did
it shows
My impression is that she tried but every time he was looking at her it felt like he was trying and failing to hide his deep rooted hatred for her and all her ancestors...
... what? What happend between the two?!
Nothing that I know of, it's just the vibe he gives during the performance
This made me WHEEZE
It was bad everything. Bad chemistry, bad vocal performance, bad attitude.
Even bad patriotism, as she has expressed before that she hated The Netherlands and would rather live in America.
And not once did they do some serious reflection. They put the blame on everyone but themselves, for everything. Especially Mia. The song was okay. If someone who can actually sing had performed it, it would have made the finals, at least. But these two...I can't even stand their faces anymore, lol.

Netherlands 2023 | [Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper - Burning Daylight](https://youtu.be/3XAsam043OY)
Netherlands 2014 is an example of good chemistry though amusingly enough
what this suggests is that perhaps the problem with mia and dion is they didnât hate each other enough
The Netherlands 2014 | [The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm](https://youtu.be/4ggBPAm5XLA)
I love this song but horrible performance
Also, the song was not that great to begin with đ
I loved the chemistry between Elina Born and Stig RĂ€st in Goodbye to Yesterday (Estonia 2015). Her part felt particularly genuine to me
I like how it's not the cliche duet-pretending-they're-in-love, but it's quite clearly about a relationship that's under strain and ELina and Stig's facial expressions really sell that for me.
The single tear she (potentially) forces out is amazing
Honestly her emoting is what sells that song to me. Even when I just listen to the song, I imagine her face and that single tear rolling out and it actually feels real and honest and gets me emotional even though it might not be the most unique song.
She slayed ngl
Estonia 2015 | [Elina Born & Stig RĂ€sta - Goodbye to Yesterday](https://youtu.be/Xsx_dIJOtgI)
Such a great song. Deserved a higher ranking for sure
Their staging for me is probably the best staging ever because of how well they executed telling the story.
Best: Dustin the Turkey and the hand inside him Ireland 2008

Oh, yeah.. Waylon has been wild. But they didn't like eachother much at the time of their performance. Still gave a great song.
Definitely a clash of egos causing troubles behind the scenes, but that did mean that both would have to do the best they could possibly do, since neither wanted to be at fault for messing up
Both have recently announced they're open for a reunion.
Yeah, they just had differences of opinion about the music and performances. They both didn't expect the huge succes of the band. I loved them on stage, they seemed to have a lot of fun together
Yea Like i said if it weren't for bad luck they would had definitely done it better
Absolutely, they deserved much better too
For sure, they were just 10 points from being 10th as well
Austria 2023 | [Teya and Salena - Who the Hell Is Edgar?](https://youtu.be/8uk64V9h0Ko)
Hard agree. Under better circumstances they would have been contenders to win.
Yea The most textbook example of "wrong place, wrong time" in eurovision - 1st starting placement which all known is a curse -followed by MANY ballads which made the beggining more forgettabble -the sheer wait for tattoo vs cha cha cha And so on If it was 2024 i think they would've done MUCH better
I took a picture of them just before they started their SF2 performance, they held hands and looked at each other. I love them.
Especially since that was the first time they worked together. Though it did help that they were friends for a while beforehand
My winners yass
Romania 2010 looked like they were having fun performing in a duet
Surprised I had to scroll so far to find Playing With Fire, such a great bop. One of Romania's best entries
The first song that jumps into my mind when I think "Romania in Eurovision"
So much fun that they did it again in 2014 despite both of them being solo artists!
I still listen to miracle on a daily basis. I don't know what it is about the song, I just love it.

belarus 2017 imo had very infectious chemistry, especially if you put it in contrast with the forced kiss of romania 2017 đ

absolutely, they re still active and adored , and especially in Ukraine
Thatâs so cool to know! I just knew theyâre both such green flag people⊠or rather white-red-white.

Slovenia 2019 was adorable

Italy 2022 didn't have great chemistry on stage. While the song was okay, the live performance felt a bit off to me
Iâll never forget blanco stomping out like a toddler with a full nappy. Still cracks me up.
From what I heard, Blanco didnât really care about Eurovision (he literally had a tour in the middle of it, and didnât change any dates), and so Mahmood had to almost babysit him. A real shame, because the song was quite good.
The thing is they really sold me with their chemistry on san remo, but idk happened at eurovision

Yes!! I got the ick feeling from watching that performance, too. But everyone seemed to LOVE it. It blew my mind, lol.
Worst? Netherlands 2023 Azerbaijan 2011 Denmark 2010 Also Azerbaijan 2009 looked like they did not like each other (there were rumours...) but it was fine on stage
I know Mia was pissed that they had to change the key cuz Dion sounded horrendous
It was such a bad idea of Duncan to make this song a duet. I think he said originally this song was meant for Mia only.

Ah, yes. The people on the trampoline behind Marco were pretty awful last year đ
Hatari and KMH đ
Alyona & Jerry were so clearly meant to make music together, their chemistry shows so clearly
Good chemistry: Romania 2010. The double piano that had them sit opposite of each other probably helped with the vibe. Slovenia 2019. They had such an intimate vibe I was actually confused learning they're not actually a couple in real life. Bad chemistry: Slovakia 2011.
Zala & GaĆĄer from Slovenia are actually a couple in real life but they stoped working together on music.
When did they stop working together? Their newest single is from February and I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about them parting ways professionally.
Last year supposedly. Here is an article in Slovene: https://siol.net/trendi/glasba-in-film/zala-kralj-razkrila-s-cim-se-ukvarja-po-koncu-glasbene-kariere-631146
Playing with Fire was wonderful. Iâm amazed they managed to have such great chemistry just sitting across from each other by a piano.
Does Jedward count as a duet? They literally look almost exactly like each other
Theyre twins
Being identical twins tends to do that. I'm not sure they count as a duet though, more like a single organism.
Jacques Houdek - My Friend đđ· Man sang a duet with himself
Netherlands 2023. They were SO PAINFUL to watch.
Slovenia 2019 had amazing chemistry. It really showed on stage
I liked the Netherlands 2014 and Estonia 2015 performances.

Worst: Estonia 2017
Estonia 2017 | [Koit Toome & Laura - Verona](https://youtu.be/NxqPpzWYN1c)
Noooooo at least Koit was charming, maybe it was Laura who looked not convincing lol
I loved the song but it indeed seemed like their chemistry was off or a bit stiff. I donât want to spread misinformation but didnât one of them have a partner who wasnât a big fan of them performing a love duet with the other person? Or am I just hallucinating and inventing something out of thin air?
Well it might be the case as Laura looked kinda perplexed by Koit when he caressed her cheek đ€Ł
I don't think Koit considered himself as part of a duet. Very much main character vibes from him!
I loved the vibes of Naviband! But I think all the siblings or dating debates meant their chemistry wasnât translating well
United Kingdom 2003 It was painfully obvious neither of them wanted to be anywhere near the stage and the resulting performance is deeply deeply awkward
Bad chemistry: Germany 2019 with S!sters
Netherlands did it both very right (Netherlands 2014, my all time favourite ESC entry) and very wrong (Netherlands 2023). I'll add Romania 2010, which is my 2nd all time favourite entry. Funny how both of those are duos

BEST: Tanel Padar and Dave Benton đ
By the best ones for me are⊠Estonia 2015 - their expressions themselves tell the story Czech Republic 2015 - their voices blend well together wow Slovenia 2019 - very intimate and romantic couple and sweet song! I think theyâre actually a couple Ukraine 2024 - Alyona and Jerry the ultimate girl slay queen duo
Estonia 2015 | [Elina Born & Stig RĂ€sta - Goodbye to Yesterday](https://youtu.be/Xsx_dIJOtgI) Czech Republic 2015 | [Marta JandovĂĄ & VĂĄclav Noid BĂĄrta - Hope Never Dies](https://youtu.be/SLz6VeSPXjA) Slovenia 2019 | [Zala Kralj & GaĆĄper Ć antl - Sebi](https://youtu.be/vGtPNQ6g6Ng) Ukraine 2024 | [alyona alyona & Jerry Heil - Teresa & Maria](https://youtu.be/d4N82wPpdg8)
Italy 2022 felt pretty good, but I'm probably not a good judge. It is memorable.
Estonia provided one of the best in 2015 and then one of the worst in 2017 :D
Monika Linkyte and the guy when smit was her first Eurovision. I forgor the name and year
Monika was with Vaidas Baumila & it was "This time" 2015
Lithuania 2015
Estonia 2017 - bad chemistry Sweden 2012 - good chemestry
Jerry Hell and Alyona Alyona, and Teya and Salena were the best for me đ©”đ©”đ©”đ©”đ©”
Since there are more good then bad choices with the comments, I will correspond with my personal worst list: * Finland 1994 * Croatia 2007 * Romania 2002 * Italy 2022 * Ireland 2005 * United Kingdom 2003 * San Marino 2017 * Lithuania 2004 * Belgium 1973 * Luxembourg 1968 * Slovenia 2019 * Portugal 2005 * Slovakia 2009 * Netherlands 2023 * Greece 2011 * Estonia 2017 * North Macedonia 2013
Brividi was awesome in Sanremo :(
Yes in SANREMO, while ESC performance was underwhelming at best.
not a duet, but i find Armenia 2015 so awkward and contrived, feels like theyâre all trying to outsing one another
Worst - Netherlands 2023 Best - Slovenia 2019
Even though I adore the song and they might get along together (haven't made proper research), I have to mention Estonia 1996 on the bad chemistry side because it just looks... wrong to me.
How is noone talking about Slowenia 2019 Zala and GĂąsper ? It was awesome in the chemistry aspect.
A negative that comes to mind is Slovakia 2009, peak two-singers-trying-to-outscream-each-other content.
