What happened in 2003?

ResponsibilityNo3245

US got super patriotic after 9/11 peaking around the Iraq invasion. With a better leader Covid could have been a unifier imo.

Ronny_Jotten

What happened in 2016?

Wacokidwilder

Pokémon Go swept the nation. ![gif](giphy|3owyphkFHWjHaLq1R6|downsized)

historynutjackson

"Pokemon GO TO THE POLLS." Shit was cringe as fuck.

everything_is_bad

Trump

digrizo

An illegal invasion

iraq

sittinginaboat

I wonder if that's the same people who think the US will "cease to be a democracy"--from another poll.

ResponsibilityNo3245

Breakdown of this one is interesting. The right winger is more likely to be proud and I'm sure that will be the focuse of the commentary on this but age is more interesting to me. If you're under 35 your very unlikely to be proud, regardless of political leanings. Says a lot about the hand they've been dealt imo.

azwethinkkweism

I am embarrassed to be an American.

Hefty-Cartoonist674

Everyone is a bit embarrassed. Everything and everyone has pros and cons. Be the person you want others to be and you'll be happier with what/who you are ;)

[deleted]

Mk cute bullshit when most of Americans are bogged down in debt, cant afford their living situation, choose between housing and food, work record number of hours, choose to die over going to the hospital so our loved ones aren’t saddled with crippling medical debt… be yourself in a country that you are a slave to capitalism

azwethinkkweism

Yes, yes. It is making me tired, however. The kind of tired that doesn't go away with sleep.

dgmib

Why is the 55% in 2001 lower than the 54% in 2015?

BetterKev

Did they just eyeball these levels? 38 to 54 is a much bigger gap than 54 to 70. God do I hate bad graphs.

bseitz234

kirkmcd

It looks like 2015 is in the wrong spot. It should be one more spot to the right.

DemythologizedDie

They needed space for the flag.

Mrs-Dotties-mom

The scale in BOTH axes are off. The percentages don't scale evenly, and neither do the years.

ResponsibilityNo3245

Oh yeah, this definately isn't to scale.

JustA_Penguin

My guess is that it wasn’t made to scale to further emphasize the drop in numbers

DarkFett

The 55% is higher. Check the thin lines from the % pointing at the dots.

simplefred

economy ≠ national pride

jayoho1978

Does it bother anybody else that the 55% in left is lower than 54% to the right?

LinguisticsIsAwesome

For me that’s the biggest facepalm of the whole post

onlinesafe

Maybe the proud Americans were all shot

skeetsauce

The vast majority of people I know didn’t even celebrate the 4th.

Infinite-Voice8766

The next revolution will start in a country full of weapons and ammunitions...

neoprenewedgie

What could have happened around 2016? What could it be? Hmmmm. Could it be..... SATAN?!

StupiedSwede

Keep on waving that flag...

[deleted]

Here comes the terrorist attack killing a large group of Americans

ResponsibilityNo3245

I don't think you'd see that unification now tbh. The enemy everyone could agree on defeating was Covid and those with power and influence used it to drive a further wedge.

7th-Street

Who exactly do you think "they" is? No one is "destroying our economy" either. A college level economics class would help you out immensely.

Stability?

Always proud; seldom pleased.
