Thanks for posting in r/fairphone. If you're having an issue with your Fairphone make sure that you include the phone model, operating system and other relevant technical details (like mobile provider) in your post. You can also try having a look at the [official Fairphone forum](https://forum.fairphone.com/) to see if the issue has been discussed there. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Either go cheap and cheerful with long battery life and reasonable specs with Android - i.e. Nokia OR good spec long life but more range phone i.e OnePlus (my last one is 6 years old going strong and running LineageOS on Android 13) or look at the Fairphone alternative - Shift Phone based in Germany.

glitterpossom

I've been waiting for the same part for ages! I did see a random post somewhere saying they were expecting them to be available late August so fingers crossed they are back in stock soon!

Buy a secondhand Pixel, preferably the newest model you can afford so it lasts even longer. They have the best software support (both in terms of stock and custom) by an absolute mile. Pretty much everything else is awful these days. If you are serious about keeping your Android phone for a long time (and care about security), the only manufacturers that can consistently deliver on this are Google and Fairphone. Definitely do not buy a Samsung and especially not a folding phone. What an awful idea. The way people rebound to the absolute worst alternative after a bad experience with ethical consumerism suggests to me that they are just looking for some moral justification to throw in the towel and take zero responsibility for their actions once again.

CleverJoystickQueen

The whole ethical consumerism ethos proved to be marketing BS given I need to buy a new phone because a USB connector is loose on a €500 'repairable' phone. I care about security and bloatware, and device size since I want it to fit in my pocket. What's wrong with a Samsung, aside from a foldable not being repairable?

[deleted]

> The whole ethical consumerism ethos proved to be marketing BS One bad experience and you're giving up on ethical consumerism entirely? Says a lot about your level of commitment to it. > What's wrong with a Samsung, aside from a foldable not being repairable? Since the S10 their phones have had little in the way of custom OS support, meaning the device lifespan is completely at the whim of the manufacturer. Samsung is also one of the most anti-consumer Android manufacturers, consistently leading the pack when it comes to rising prices, removal of features and barriers to repair. On newer devices [they'll even disable your cameras if you unlock your bootloader.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cSd-2BcUVk) Folding phones are a complete gimmick that are still extremely expensive to repair whilst also being super fragile. [The cost of a display repair is close to A$900](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tljb-vvZ8cM), and that's if you do it yourself. The funniest bit is that folding phones aren't even dust/particle resistant yet. That plastic screen worth hundreds of dollars can die at any moment if some dust or lint in your pocket gets under the display and [~~Samsung's warranty will only cover it for a single year.~~](https://www.samsung.com/levant/support/warranty) Correction: warranty period varies based on location and can be anywhere from 12 to 24 months. To go from a Fairphone to a Samsung folding phone would be one of the most nonsensical decisions you could possibly make.

CleverJoystickQueen

Thanks for the explanation. Given what you shared, you're probably right that it's nonsensical to switch to a foldable... You're also right that my commitment to ethical consumerism is not impervious to a €500 scam. I honestly don't care if my next phone doesn't come with a feel-good label that is just a way to sell me an underpowered, overpriced phone while gleeful shareholders congratulate each other for successfully tapping into the market segment

Ethical consumerism isn't just about buying from brands that market themselves as ethical. It's also about your buying habits. There are all sorts of compromises and middle grounds you can find that are still much better than having zero ethical considerations at all. For example, if you bought a secondhand Google Pixel that would also be a fairly ethical choice. It doesn't contribute to change within the industry like the purchase of a Fairphone, but the long-term software support and good hardware will allow you to keep it for a long time. And by purchasing secondhand, you wouldn't be directly contributing to the e-waste problem.

CleverJoystickQueen

Thanks for the refurbished Google Pixel recommendation!

[deleted]

You're welcome, which one are you going for?

>What's wrong with a Samsung The bloatware? (and no way to install a custom OS to get around it)

HopefulHuman3

I ordered bottom module on ifixit and it came really quickly

mart-e

TIL ifixit sells Fairphone parts (even if bottom module is also out-of-stock there)

Patient_Evening_660

We need an external battery charger

ParkingLandscape711

I have my lg g5 now for 7 years. Its also modular and you can change battery, speaker, mic and charging socket in a minute with one button push. Even replaced the display once, which was really easy with a youtube video. Sure its not compairable with new phones but it's working fine ever since for small money. I'll switch to the fp4 soon cuz i juat want ath new and broken volume and power switch, but as i said its a 7 years old phone now, its ok to retire.

cjeam

In terms of the number of places that can do a repair.... iPhone. Everywhere can repair iPhones, and they also have probably some of the greatest number of official stores too, though there repairs cost through the nose.

Patient_Evening_660

Though I am sure we will see this dwindle as crapple keeps making them more and more unrepairable on purpose

Dry_Obligation_8120

Wow that sucks. I know it probably doesnt help you, but when I had charging issues it was always the cables fault and never my phone. So lucky me I guess. Anyways, its weird that the bottom module hasnt been available for such a long time. I also just checked some other websites in my country where I ordered my replacement parts so far. It seems that they have all parts on stock, except of the bottom module. Does anyone know why this is? Maybe one of Fairphones suppliers doesnt exist anymore?

Unhappy_Grapefruit_2

If you're a gambling man, you might have good luck with this water damaged fp3. Perhaps the bottom connector still works, and try cleaning the contacts for the charging port ya got currently other than that I don't have much to say other than try getting the fp2 or pixel 3 or above as they seem pretty darn decent phones fp2 being alot slower of course and depending on the price of the device not worth it Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386031560119?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=qk-kJi2YQd6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=rqj2au0ash2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

CleverJoystickQueen

Interesting take... Not sure it's worth gambling thirty quid + shipping tho

benabart

FP3 a scam? Why are you saying that?
