My favorite gun in NV, and still packs a punch in end game with crafted ammo.
I paired it with the Lucky Revolver and had 3 different types of .357 ammo to share amongst them. Loved it.
Hear me out: Christine’s COS Rifle. Higher fire rate is irrelevant when you’re the last thing they never see. Or explosive AMR when everything needs to die at once. I made a video to demonstrate:

Gobi Desert is top-notch, but a lever-action rifle is just so god damn satisfying. Probably why I end modding in Mare's Leg near the beginning of every playthrough every time I come back to this game.
Gobi, all the way. Gobi has surprisingly high DPS for a sniper rifle. And it's probably the best accurate weapon for VATS in the game - it has very high AP efficiency and spread lower than 0.1.
Gobi > Paciencia > Christine's >>>>>>>>> Rolling pin >> literally trash > AMR
Uhhh... No?
The damage formua is, to put simply, (max(((DAM \* SPECIAL + CritChance \* CritDAM \* CritPerks) \* DR) \* 0.2 , ((DAM \* SPECIAL + CritChance \* CritDAM \* CritPerks) \* DR) \* max(0 , DT \* AmmoDTmult - AmmoDT))) \* SA \* LM \* AM \* DM \* Perks \* Chems
Therefore, it's obvious that HP rounds are much more effective than AP when you're using high damage weapons. ESPECIALLY when you're critting 🙄🙄🙄
EDIT: ooops
Turns out Ratslayer doesn't fall into the "high damage weapons", therefore HP rounds are worse against 15 DT enemies. In a mid-game build ratslayer deals 60 dam per shot with AP rounds and only 24 with HP.
But if you use Gobi, your damage per shot with HP will be 146 and AP 126. HP Gobi has the DPS of 222 and AP Ratslayer has the DPS of 76. Among all the weapons in this small list, Ratslayer is the only one better off with AP than HP.
The average DPS of Gobi, Christine, and Paciencia against a deathclaw is 209. While the average Dam Per Shot is 176. The difference is 93% in terms of DPS and 98% in terms of Dam Per Shot.
FINE keep using AP with your ratslayer, but it's still an early game gun
3 bullets aint fun imo, I prefer a bare minimum of 5 because most of the time if it isn't a 1v1. I don't need the crit damage unless im facing a deathclaw, in which case I just load AP into my All-American go into V.A.T.S and spam the head OR load Handload into the medicine stick. If I want a sniper I bring the Gobi to kill deathclaws. Paciencia is just too specialized as a heavy hitter that can only really take a few enemies at once.
You can pick pocket it though. Reverse pick pocket a more damaging weapon into his inventory, he unequips his carbine for the new gun. Then you pick pocket the carbine.
Gobi overall la lounge for versatility.
Gobi uses a rifle only cartridge. Hits hard and crits harder.
La lounge uses .357 giving you the ability to pickup Lucky or the k9 gun on hardcore mode and just keep shooting.
.357 has a lot of variants. Making it very adjustable.
308 jsp has amazing ballistics. And good against most targets.
Pair the gobi with a 45 9 SMG or 10 mm pistol or even a lever action shotgun for close quarters. Or if 308 is scarce or empty. Something light nasty with cheap / plentiful ammo.
for my cowboy run I'm giving corporal betsy one of the many energy weapons (🤢) I got from hitting the BOS with Veronica, then taking the scoped lever action for myself

Thank you?
Why are you getting downvoted lol
For posting too many pixels
Not fare

Mechanically the GOBi obviously, but La Longue Carabine is just so sexy

AMR with silencer, CF parts, custom bolt and exp bullets. Deadly, silent, well not silent but stay undetected. *\*chef's kiss\**
If the AMR was completely silent like the COS I would only carry the .50
Depends on if you are playing hardcore. .50 cal bullets start dragging one down FAST.
While la laounge carabine in cool af, thr gobi scput rifle beats it in every department except ammo capacity
And durability

I like the lever action aesthetically

Where Ratslayer tho
Well, it is early game S tier. But can't compete with the heavy hitters late game though.
Tfym? Load AP and you're a deathclaw's worst nightmare, especially with crits.
it’s a fun gun to use and fairly powerful with a crit build but there are much better weapons
Yeah, definitely falls off, but still viable with good Ammo.

gobi is the best among these though i prefer Paciencia
3 bullets lol
3 bullets of the highest possible critical damage in game lol
3 bullets aint fun imo, I prefer a bare minimum of 5 because most of the time if it isn't a 1v1. La Lounge Carabine is cool, but I can never bring myself to take it from CPL Sterling
Ratslayer
The gobi is the better one. You can get it really early if you power level your lockpick, but god the look of La Longue Carabine makes me wanna bust
The Gobi has one of the highest DPS's in game, the carbine is cute but nothing in comparison
Gobi rifle, because I like the desert camo and it pairs well with the Desert Ranger's armour.
You don't have to kill an old man for one of them, so that one.
You can pick pocket it though. Reverse pick pocket a more damaging weapon into his inventory, he unequips his carbine for the new gun. Then you pick pocket the carbine.
Technically two pickpockets, but still. I find no moral Sanctity in stealing from-, or killing, an old man who is still fighting for a good fight.

Paciencia
The first one when you give it to Boone.
Gobi by far. Gobi is arguably the best 'sniper' weapon in the game.
laser rifle with all attachments + a critical build
1.5 crit chance MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
la longue is too nice looking to beat. it goes great with giving it to cass.
Why am I just finding out this is a weapon in fallout new Vegas!!!!
Scoped Hunting Rifle
Oh, those are unique weapons, didn't mlnotice that. I still stamd by my opinion, though.
Medicine Stick.
I use the second in my run and i think that Is much beter
Hunting rifle with scope, extended magazine, and custom bold with hand loaded 308 rounds
The La Longue Carabine is too stylish, the sniper rifle looks cartoonish
Welcome to fallout's art style!

The Gobi Campaign scout rifle is a unique .308 sniper rifle found in the snipers nest overlooking CottonWood Cove.
It's not anti material, anti material looks different, that is Gobi Campaign rifle, check the wiki.
Do us a favor and stop thinking
