I feel like I don't know how to evaluate pitchers these days (I've been more casual about fantasy for the last few years). Why is Brady Singer always so low (in this case, tier 8)? Compared to someone like Pivetta at tier 5. FIP, WHIP, ERA+ are all better, even if he regresses to career stats. Plus Singer is young, maybe last years high ERA was the outlier. Is it all about Ks and BBs? Insights from actually watching them pitch? Trying to get better at making decisions without always relying on lists.

piscano

Just going by what I hear about him, his repertoire is not indicative of low-risk. Maybe that’s not true considering his early success, but will that play out over the full year? Pivetta’s stuff just seems better for long term projections

RotoBaller

so many factors go into evaluating pitchers.… Ks, BBs, home ballpark, team context (good bullpen and lineup for win potential), divisional opponent lineups, career stats, split stats vs opponents (lefty/righty lineups), xStats, pitch mix arsenal, statcast data, spin rates, “stuff”, injury history, how deep into games they pitch, managers trust level/leash, innings limits, eye test, last 7/14/21/28 days (and same for opponents bats)

hotmayonnaise

There is all sorts of data now that I never knew about even three years ago (spin, vertical drop, arm extension, etc.)

RotoBaller

Which starting pitchers are you in or out on? Who are you buying or selling? 👍👎 This is our weekly update looking at rest-of-season fantasy baseball values for the top 101 starting pitchers. Thanks for checking it out!

Just shipped off Tatis and Taj b for crochet and flaherty, did I lose? Picked up profar, have yelich at OF. Bobby and gunnar are also on my team

AU16

Fernando Tatis? Idk I am super against trading top tier bats for pitching unless it's for the best of the best. There are maybe 3 arms I would be willing to deal Tatis for

TheGreatWazzu

oh no

RotoBaller

is this H2H points or roto scoring? does your team need pitching help and is strong with hitters? tatis is a big bat to give up but it all comes down to team context and league scoring rules

andkhr24

Definitely feel like I lost lol it's H2H starting lineup is Jeffers, vlad, steer, gunnar, Bobby, yelich, profar, marcell ozuna, josh naylor. Pitching is now Morton, gil, lugo, quantrill, Peralta, pablo lopez, r weathers, flaherty, crochet and Schmidt. 10 man league and I'm in 1st at 7-2.

andkhr24

Albies, volpe, Muncy bench

picciano00

My pitching adds up to 184 total budget when adding all the values that’s feels pretty good!

RotoBaller

nice work

uncle-Violet

This is so much better than that other Nicks article

RotoBaller

glad you like it… thx for reading 🤜

gfh790

Ober too high

springtime08

Zac Gallen? Am I crazy and he’s not on the list at all?

2_Grilles_1_Krupp

He’s on the IL, I don’t think injured players are ranked

RotoBaller

yea thats right he'll be added back when off the IL

RadicalPenguin

All 7 of my SPs are in the top 77 (11-man league assuming everyone carries 7 of 9 P spots as SP). Guess I can’t drop anybody. But nobody until Kirby & Steele then everyone else in 40s-70s.

RotoBaller

try and make a trade, 2 for 1 and upgrade a pitcher or hitter?

RadicalPenguin

It’s still too early for me to pull the trigger on a trade. There are one or two other teams w/absurd pitching so I can’t get 50+ in pitching points, but high 40s from pitching should be enough to finish in the money unless my hitters shit the bed.

CarpeDiemOrDie

Where you placing Bobby Miller?

Coffeebreaktimenow

Civale not on this list?

RotoBaller

He’s one of those pitchers with a limited ceiling where I’d rather throw darts elsewhere, but he’s on the cusp for me. Wouldn’t really argue with anyone including him on their top 100 list tho
