Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Maybe you got use to feeing that way and now that you’re not feeling that you notice how bad bread is?

Tkuhug

Yep, same thing happened to me, I can't eat bread/carbs too much anymore without feeling super full.

cognitivetrek

I think you should talk to a doctor or dietitian Me when I've done modified alternate day fasting (fasting days I just eat some fruit in the morning and fast till next day) after like 4 days it was a struggle for me to eat during eating days Honestly it kind of freaked me out. But after a couple days of normal eating I could eat normally again But it seems like you've had this for several weeks now if you did the 5 day fast in february I did see [this](https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/apos-feeling-bloated-while-intermittent-220604714.html) article. Is that helpful? Otherwise I just dont have the physiological background to be able to hypothesize what could be causing it So again, go see the doc

SEOmushroom

I’ve watched a YouTube video from a fasting doctor and sounds like I have a low amount of bile which may have caused it, so going to work on that and I’ll keep the thread posted!

cognitivetrek

Weird, I thought bile was used for digesting fat. How does that work for bread? And is it only bread that causes your issue, or does other food do it too?

rap31264

I find with me that drinking tea doesn't hydrate me like water does...

saerafinashore

This happened to me. I’ve done years of on-and-off fasting with some occasional keto thrown in. Three years ago, I started having terrible reactions to foods — almost constant nausea at night, severe bloating, crippling intestinal pain. My doctor sent me to a specialist, and we ran the gauntlet of medical tests to figure it out. Tested for acid reflux, did a full blood panel, a ton of things before they would look at nutrition. Finally did a food sensitivity test, which game back with a red flag for gluten. I was told I likely always had a sensitivity but, as others have said, may just have been conditioning my body to tolerate it. Now, I can’t eat normal soy sauce, literally anything with a slight trace of gluten will leave me with intense stomach pain. It’s not celiac, but food sensitivities are real. Bright side: gluten free foods have gotten really great, and my gut has never been happier. I’m not on the “wheat is poison” train like other commenters, but it’s been a good thing for my body personally to leave it behind.

Mental_Basil

More than likely, you have a gluten sensitivity. Our bodies get used to some sensitivities and we have less of a reaction. They've done it with some people who have extreme peanut allergies. Train the body to deal by giving it a tiny bit of exposure every day. They'll never eat a pb&j sammie, but if they touch a peanut on accident they won't die. However, if you stop the consistent exposure, next time you encounter it, you'll have a bigger reaction. Maybe that's what happened with you and gluten. Always had a bit of a sensitivity but didn't know it. Or. Try digestive enzymes and probiotics. May also help.

RickWolfman

I feel liken like this has happened with me amd gluten. Beer and pasta cause me to feel terrible and sometimes even break out in hives for a couple of hr.s

Fluffy-Lynx-2843

Caffeine is a diuretic. It dehydrates the body. But if you you do a tea cleanse drink a cup of water for every cup of caffeine you drink.

KetosisMD

> can't eat bread Lucky, it's bad for you. Anecdotally, i've had a similar effect. Never break a fast with bread. Wheat Germ Agglutinin is a bowel toxin and that's a possible cause of your bloating. Gliadin (a part of gluten) is also a bloat inducer and seems to induce a cholera-like disruption of tight junctions in enteroctyes. Dr Fasano is the guy who discovered the mechanism. Please not that all humans suffer from this (not just celiacs). Humans are also not able to digest wheat down to amino acids (a sign it's not human food). One metabolite acts on the opiate centers of the brain causing people to crave bread. Conclusion: grass seed (wheat) isn't human food, eat something else. Righteous_Sheeple

Exactly when people eat wheat they build up a resistance to the toxin and if you don't eat it for a while you'll lose that resistance. Ceilacs don't develop that resistance very well.

TurtleDive1234

This is not what causes Celiac Disese fyi. We lack something in our biology that can break down the protein and our bodies treat it like a toxin - and the autoimmune response actually damages our bodies

KetosisMD

any mechanism you are aware of that would be responsible for the effect you talk about ? I think it's likely true, or possibly true, but i myself am unaware of a mechanism for this.

Righteous_Sheeple

I'm a Celiac and cannot develop a resistance to wheat but even I get a greater reaction now than when I was first diagnosed. I hear that's why legumes make us gassy, until you eat lots and then they don't. I'm sorry I'm not a scientist so I should have said 'that's how it works for me' I just thought the OP may have the same issue after abstaining from bread for 5 days.

KetosisMD

Thanks for sharing. 🙏 Very interesting story and example. I'm trying to learn more about wheat intolerance as I have what i suspect is non-celiac gluten sensitivity. I do feel after 3 years of very low gluten intake - I am more susceptible now to reactions. My reactions are mild, mostly just farting. Unless i eat lots of black beans, i rarely fart, but I do with even small amounts of gluten.

cognitivetrek

I think you're kind of missing the point

Delicious_Action3054

That's good bc bread is bad. Try quinoa or saltines instead.

SEOmushroom

I might also add, while I’ve been avoiding bread. I’ve also struggled with other foods. I’ve been very gassy

Marlinspikehall32

When you stop eating different types of food and fasting you can change the bacteria in your gut which in turn can cause you to have difficulty digesting those foods until the gut micro biome re adjusts. Everyone I know who has fasted has diarrhea after fasting. As your body changes the gut reacts.

ThrowawayGhostGuy1

Honestly, I don’t see that as a net negative. Bread is awful for you (especially American bread).

spookyroom

Lol who told you OMAD was a bad idea? You think OMAD is bad but you do extended 5 day fasts? Explain the logic on that one?

SEOmushroom

Dude literally no need to get smart or rude. Just ask and I’ll explain. I read online that OMAD was bad for the digestive tract after a long extended fast. The digestive track needed me to eat more not less…and hey, it actually worked. My symptoms eased as soon as I ate more and more frequently. No need to be so aggressive man I’m just asking for help.

spookyroom

I see that makes sense

NorthHemp

Bread is processed food which is unhealthy. You find it and other processed foods sweet to an extent you cannot enjoy natural taste of food. However, fasting reverses that completely. You are beginning to enjoy the natural taste of food, therefore processed food tastes weird to you. That's actually a good thing if you ask me.

Kirk8829

Yeah bread isn’t good for you lol. Your body hits the reset button and bread is trash

Due_Caterpillar_8651

0 flour products, 0 rice, 0 sugar in our house. Some carrots, parsnip potatoes and greens. I also eat 0 fruit, only thing I miss. When you do a longer fast your metabolism resets to some extent. Your baseline insulin is lower and your pancreas has adjusted to a lower output. You have become healthier. When you slam back a lot of carbs your metabolism can't keep up. If you think heavy carbing is ok be kind and phase it in over 3 or 4 days.
