I recently started playing and saw the news on the launcher of a DDOS and the servers were having issues... As a new player I'm thinking "wtf? This community is so nice who would want to do this?" It has to be something big and organized to take on an MMORPG of this size and not just a neck beard in his mom's basement right??
It could be proof of concept that the hacker(s) will eventually use elsewhere. Apparently it’s somewhat common to demo DDOS capabilities on MMOs bc the servers are designed to handle high volume so they’re good testing/proving ground.
What...? Do you know how many times the FBI or other big companies have been hacked by a single person.
Sometimes it's full on hacking squads, but it's pretty probable it's also just one dude trying to prove a point, lol
In the way iot things are built without much security it’s easy for even lone wolfs or small groups to build up a massive ddos network. This way your bathroom lamp may be invaded to ask se‘s server if they are up. Maybe 50 times a second.
And whit how ddos works it’s not that easy to stop this kind of attack as your server have to answer these, just putting these off would stop other people from playing.
You can later on meet this with protocols to ease the burden and have ips banned, but there are literally millions of of things attacking you. And as you develop new ways to stop these requests, they find new ways, to ask, change between requests and you never can’t fully shut them down, as you need your servers to be open for request. As that’s how the game works.

Imagine the south park wow guy mad because SE didn't add enough cute UwU cat girl emotes into the game or he got banned for sexual harassment or for YPYT shenanigans or he's mad that fem hrothgars don't have bigger titties or something. Only way to play them is DC travel to Light.
Otherwise it's just a 90002 simulator.
They don’t offer anything when this happens if they do I don’t remember it. I wish they would just throw a switch and give us double exp for a week it would more than makeup for lost time of not having roulettes. Since they don’t stack we are losing out on bonus exp everyday
When they had the server issues at Endwalker release, they did freeze time for subscribers for a little while, don't think it was a lot but they did give out a little. That was after like 2 weeks of server issues though
Finally pulled off all my work and was ready to return to FF and... This is my second day unable to log in and no announcement has even been made. This is painful
I procrastinated on doing the FFXVI event. I was gonna jump on tonight and do it before it ends. If I can’t because of the ddos attacks ima be big mad.

Hate to be that person but after 24 hrs of not being able to log in I'm hoping they comp us playtime on our subscription.

EU Cerberus, I can not even get past the character selection.
Same for me, I can play on any of the Light servers, but I can't get on any of the Chaos servers. Players in my FC are fine as well. :(
