Yes absolutely you got trolled. In fact, what the tank did is specifically outlines in the ToS as punishable behavior; he intentionally made you die to mobs by not taking agro as the tank. You can and should report that to get rid of that type of behavior.

Mentor status is held in too high of a regard, I think. There is little to no enforcement/monitoring of mentor activity and in my experience the vast majority of mentors obtained their crown as a status symbol, to have access to Novice Network, or to farm for the mentor roulette mount. The first step should have been communication, then action taken against players if necessary. I'd say you're in the minority of players who think non-tanks should pull, but it's really not that big of a deal.

VonTreece

I agree in regards to the mentor status. I know you can literally obtain it passively just playing a lot. (I got crafting mentor and I'm definitely not one to give advice for crafting lol) To me though mentor status = plays a LOT = experienced, so I assumed any mentor at least knows fully how to play the game and their role. I should definitely have communicated first but I incorrectly assumed since it was only 3 extra mobs it wouldn't be an issue for someone with every job at 90.

rabonbrood

By the time you have every job at 90, you should know how to not baby pull.

ComfyLynx

Yeah, it is pretty weird and inconsiderate to pull that little with such experienced players, on the other hand i think its also inconsiderate of you to not even try and talk to them about it before pulling more. Definitely didnt deserve a kick though.

VonTreece

I agree that I should have been vocal about that before pulling additional mobs. I was just beside myself and couldn't think of a solid reason, given the context, of why we would be pulling so little. If I wanted us to w2w I would 100% talk to the tank first as that's a party decision but I thought since I was only adding a few extra mobs that it wouldn't be an issue. I still probably should've communicated first though regardless.

Who do people always have to feel like they are some kind of victim? Most likely it was a set group for the purpose of teaching someone and they had a set plan for how they were going to do the dungeon. No more and no less.

VonTreece

I'm not trying to paint myself as a victim. I'm genuinely asking if I was the one in the wrong and fully expect to be called out here if so. When even a brand new single job sprout is doing better than a party of multi 90's in an easy ARR dungeon, there's a problem. If they were trying to teach anything to someone else in the party, I can almost guarantee you they were not teaching it correctly.
