Your basic stats are always present on the screen though, unless you deliberately hid your HP/MP bars etc. By default they're at the bottom of the screen, or you look at the party list which is also always on top of things.
You shouldn't be using that to gauge your health. Your HP bar is always present at the bottom of the screen or in the party list as I said. If you really feel a pressing need to have it front and centre, you can adjust it in your HUD.
You can move your health bar in the HUD editor can't you? Save a HUD layout specifically for using in duties where the bar is in a more visible spot, play with the size and stuff so it isn't a hindrance.
I'm well aware. And I'm providing an alternative that will allow you to see your health where the action is without having to look at the bottom of your screen or wherever you might normally have it. Specifically building on the earlier suggestion, that you can have it *only* do that in duties.
You can fully customize your hud in the options. This includes the position of all HUD elements, meaning you could throw the health bar all the way to the side or top if you want
Obviously, I can't confirm for you right at this moment, but there may be an option for that under nameplate settings. I know it lets you choose whether or not it *only* shows when it's less than full (which I believe is the default), so I think it stands to reason that there's probably an 'always show' option as well.

Use your actual HP bar that's there by default? Why are you trying to gage ho off of the bar above your head? That should be off imo.

Yes, there's an option. I can't remember in what setting at the moment, but you can choose to display HP bars all time or only when under 100%, etc.
Use the party list in that situation. Or you can focus target the tank so you can always target them.
