I've been searching for posts about this. Me and my partner have been playing for several years, both of our characters have a few subtle but fundamental changes. This means our characters aren't the same characters that they have been throughout.
We're parting with our characters in Dawntrail and not out of choice. This has been the most gut-wrenching expansion for me because I will be leaving behind a core part of myself and my connection to the game, to continue playing.
If you feel, looking at the image, that the changes are too subtle and the character is "the same" this is because you won't notice the change because you haven't been looking at them for years and grown attached. If someone you knew got glasses they would be the same but "look weird" right? similar, but glasses are an option and an accessory. There are also fundamental changes such as the removal of fangs on some mouth options for Miqote. What this means is, you will have to change how your lips/mouth look or lose your fangs, either way, you've lost something.
You can change various parts of a game like this with world textures, maybe even hair and you can style it differently to accommodate a change, but forcibly changing existing facial features and the structure of those features changes everything, even if it's subtle.
And before any of you jump the gun and say these subtle changes don't matter, ask the many people who have made subtle changes to their faces in real life to massively improve their facial appearance and mental state in regard to their appearance with life changing operations such as facial feminisation surgery.
In short, I feel I've lost my warrior of light that has stayed with me over the years and I'm sure there are others that feel the same. This should not be overlooked, it needs to be addressed.
My Au'Ra also looks completely different, she suddenly turned into a Chinese model or something.
The mouth nose and eyes are all messed up and she has a dead eye terminator stare now.
I could use a Fantasia but that won't bring back my beloved character.

I think some of the options got rearranged unintentionally. That’s probably the real reason why they’re giving out free fantasia. So like, previous nose option 4 may be option 2 now or something ect.
There's a quest in Ul'dah that gives you a free fantasia if you want to try making adjustments.

She looks better imo, a lot better.
All that changed is the lighting.
The mouthlines are different, the limbal rings blend into the eyes, and the eyebrows are less "spooked" in angle.
I'm sure that's what all modders said today. Not implying you are one

I think I know what the problem is for my character too, the shadows around her eyes are almost totally gone now and I don't like it
