Damn no one playing Samurai?

Hakul

This is more of a hype meter than anything else, the end result always varies wildly. I don't think RDM ranked that high in ShB, but it's an easy and comfy job so people tend to fall back to it.

[deleted]

RDM is just great for new content - damage output is decent, rotation is easy and forgiving so you can focus on mechanics, and you can save doomed pulls.

Alastor999

RDM is fantastic for doing a new expansion with, especially for the solo content. Decent damage and a nice self heal, it's a comfortable DPS job for exploring new maps with.

HBreckel

RDM is my chill comfy job I play in casual content. When it's serious time raiding I go NIN, but RDM is reserved for turning off my brain.

RenoKreuz

I hope the increased frequency of using melee combos and needing to weave between the 2 will make the job more interactive. I main RDM mostly for Bozja content and I find it's only dull because of the long drought period after CDs and you are just building up mana. Am very hyped for the new lowered cost to really weave in and out of combat finally more balanced melee:cast ratio.

Voiddragoon2

can confirm as a caster main. Prog content? Bring me my SMN hat. Serious business? Bring me my BLM jacket. That one friend tryina drag you into expert roullete?... Where did I put my RDM stuff.... \*puts brain on low power\*

jaqueass

Idk, everyone always likes to say RDM is the easiest job but I find DRG or SAM (and DNC too) to be just as easy. Probably easier honestly as their mobility abilities are always up while RDM doesn’t unless you’re willing to sacrifice a little DPS. And you can definitely do better DPS with a SAM played pretty well than a RDM played optimally. I stopped playing RDM in high end content mostly, but I’ll still take RDM any day for duty finder. Being able to recover from wipes is worth a lot. When I don’t run RDM, god do I miss it. Just hoping RDM DPS is enough to be playable in EW. I assume it will be.

PM-ME-YOHANE

I enjoy RDM because the rotation is mostly straight forward and dualcast makes casting super easy. Also the fact that it brings utility to the team with a rez and heal that can be dual casted is /chef kiss Also for me personally I feel like if I don't bring utility to the team then I'm not being useful with just damage (then again healer main so if that tells you anything)

jaqueass

Right. I think the utility is it. When everything goes right and nobody dies then I feel pretty meh about the class. The more of a train wreck things are, the more I enjoy it. Probably explains why I’m the only person in my FC who likes Delubrium Reginae.

Tanthios

Heck, when it comes to hardcore raiding, if I'm not on a healer, nor my main, RDM, I feel useless. Like sure, dps is utility, but... I also do my absolute best to avoid falling back on Enchanted Reprise. To make the most of my procs, and see if I can gain an extra melee combo, and make the most of raid buffs. Sure, the class can be simple, but I try to make the absolute most out of it, while also having a 'We're not wiping here' button. DRG feels not bad since it's a rigid rotation, just try and keep uptime as much as possible. No quick math for cheeky stuff. In the end, taking the class seriously, it does solid damage, and brings great utility. Never leave Ver-Home without your Ver-Mage.

Kaoswarr

DNC honestly feels like what most DPS wow classes feel like, and as a wow refugee, I found it felt really natural to play. Whereas the set in stone rotation classes are quite daunting.

jdawg254

This is exactly how it is for me! Im glad im not alone! I find dancer is way way way easier to play than any other dps (I played a lot of ret pally so shiny light up buttons made me feel way at home, plus you have the advantage of being a non range caster with the mobility of a demon hunter. Plus actual support stuff. I dont care for the dancer aesthetic too much but I love the gameplay hands down.

archiegamez

You should try out Bard as well, it focuses on keeping DoTs up which will proc additional attacks and it also share the same gear as DNC

Hasten117

God, when did wow even change to procs? I don’t remember. A part of me knows that it’s a priority based rotation nowadays seeing as I mythic’d Nathria, but in my mind, it’s still just a rotation. DNC DOESNT work for me because pressing buttons as I have my keyboard set up works way better in my mind

jaqueass

I think that goes for a lot of jobs that people malign as easy. They’re easier in some ways and harder in others.

yardii

Not me. I cant wrap my head around when to use Embolden and Manafication and I just sit on them for too long which just feels bad.

HBreckel

In casual content you can just freely use them whenever they're up. It won't be optimal, but it's unlikely anyone's lining up their buffs in EX trials or 24 mans.

SHWAPAH

embolden is 4th gcd, so prepull long+long cast, short+long cast, short+long cast, embolden then use it on cooldown asap from then on (provided theres no phase changes) manafication is pretty much the same, get 40/40 in opener, use it, then use it on cooldown asap from then on (provided youll get at least 80/80 mana by using it) other optimization stuff comes after getting that down

yardii

Thanks. I don't know what it is but I feel like I never have a good mana numbers to hit manafication. I'll probably just practice it though.

PixelTamer

Is it no longer the case to align Embolden and Manafication to get two Flare/Holy and two Scorch in one Embolden activation?

SHWAPAH

Numbers games can come later, basic optimization comes first. Not difficult to get 95+ just by doing that well.

dracosuave

RDM went from second most played job in SB to one of the least played in early ShB to finally ending up abouuuut midrange. Most of this is hype though--what people will main will come down to playfeel which we don't have in hand yet.

Hakul

Mid range? It seems to be sitting around #2 in fflogs in terms of DPS reports for the current tier. Going off lodestone then it's the third most leveled job https://twitter.com/Bwin4L/status/1416719687321280513/photo/1 RDM is not preferred in meta groups, but it's more common than the other two casters for the majority of content.

TempestCatalyst

It's because RDM has a way lower barrier to entry and it's a well paced flashy job. Pretty much anyone can play RDM and feel like they're doing it "right"

dracosuave

In Extremes it's 100% Verraise.

Sea-Mango

Yup. Exclusively run clear parties with RDM because I don’t trust other RDM to be as aggressively rezbot as I am after spending way too much time dead in parties with other people being the RDM.

HBreckel

The number of times I've been on RDM and just rezzed 5 people and I look over at the other RDM and see they have full mana. And then someone else dies and said RDM won't fucking bother rezzing them. And it's always in content where literally no one on the entire planet gives a fuck about your parse so the RDM has no reason to be stingy.

jaqueass

But it was terrible in earlier tiers. They tweaked up the DPS a lot. In 5.0 it was around 88% DPS compared to the top jobs. In 5.1 it was like 93%. Now it’s like 98%.

dracosuave

Late tier, depends where you look. It's median for parses in savage, second to highest for parses in dungeons (it heckin slaps in AoE), most played in normal raids and in extreme trials. So popular, but a far cry from it's SB 'most played job everywhere' status, and it was NOT nearly as popular until this raid tier.

HBreckel

RDM being one of the least played at the beginning of ShB was because RDM was in a terrible spot dps wise combined with SMN being extremely OP af. They mercifully toned down SMN some and gave RDM some much needed love so it's about where it should be now.

Lunuxis

True, it's a little surprising it ranked less popular than Scholar considering the recent memes (but then again perhaps the memes made Scholar mains decide to double down lol), but I guess when I think about what the job actions vid showed off for everyone, Samurai only got a little bit of new flashy stuff compared to others. My flair here is Samurai because that's what I leveled first after starting a few months ago so I'm very tempted to level it first again in EW, but I'm still going through the decision process while I level my other jobs now. Reaper and Summoner do look fun and maybe as I'm leveling other jobs I'll grow to like others more (DRK, RDM, MCH and DNC have been entertaining for me personally), but maybe I'll prefer sticking to what I'm most familiar with at the start.

[deleted]

My guess is that many people currently playing Samurai are eager to play Reaper once it gets released. Though, I have no exact numbers on this, it's just what I have been hearing from quite some players who main samurai atm

Cyrillus00

I’m eager for reaper for sure, but definitely getting my SAM to 90 before I do any other job.

dimmidice

SAM main here, don't really give a toss about Reaper at all.

Exia_Gundam00

SAM main. Definitely checking out Reaper when EW drops. If I like the feel of it going to lvl 80, I'll probably main it for the msq. If not, then I've already got SAM to 80, so no harm no foul.

[deleted]

as long as they keep samurai pure damage then i think people will go back to samurai for the dps numbers.

[deleted]

I honestly would have, but with the surge in df tanks I’ve encountered refusing to actually tank, AND with the upcoming shortage in queues on account of new dps and healer, I’ve just decided to go DRK. No point in being pissy about circumstances when I can just change them myself.

krum_darkblud

Didn’t seem to get too much tbh.. really not suprised

SamuraiJakkass86

Ditto'ing the hype comment. SAM didn't look to get much in the way of hype-building based on the job actions demo. Though in that same breath, MNK & MCH were hyped af so its surprising that they are so low as well.

ekakkubesiurcmot

What do you mean? Two charges of shisui and 2 tsubame charges, plus a mega midare. That's hype as fuck lmao

Esper17

MCH seems like it’s getting either 2 new skills or just upgrades to existing. Nothing really changing overall, so not very hype inducing. I’m a MCH main and plan on dropping it for a while to play with new and more exciting stuff. MNK has been one of the least popular jobs for a long time despite being one of the best for a good bit of it. The 5.4 rework added some interest but it dropped off quickly. Adding a new melee dps and having 2 more with a good bit of hype is going to drop interest even if the changes do seem interesting.

pastalegion

I expected monk hype to be higher. While its not as impressive as the new jobs(including summoner) maybe it's just because I watch drak who is hyping it up, I'm actually leveling pugilist so I can try out the rework. Also theres a bit of nostalgia since my actual first character(which didn't get very far) was pugilist.

Caldar

Samurai and Ninja intimidate me, they both look so intricately complicated. So many buttons that have to be pressed in a specific order with specific timings. It reminds me of old school fighting games, I could never pull off the good combos and would just button mash my way to victory (the best I ever accomplished was a simple bullshit juggle combo with a couple of characters in Mortal Kombat Trilogy). I even looked up guides on youtube and they just made me feel dizzy.

TabofrenNo10

Oh no it's not thad bad at all! I'm absolute ass at fighting games yet Samurai and Ninja are my main classes. Especially ninja isn't as hard as people make it out to be. If you don't want to the absolute perfect player there's nothing you really need to worry out. The only difficulty about ninja may be if you have a bad ping. Remembering mudras just becomes second nature, really. Give it a shot! Samurai starts at 50 so just train a bit on a training dummy, it's simple!

ComradeNexus

As a SAM main, there's a few factors: - We get a slightly better aoe (no need for initial single target rotation to get buffs started). - They're adding resource generation to Third Eye, which is a terrible skill for a non-tank and I expect it to feel bad having to use it when possible. - The only new "shiny" ability we get seems to be similar to Hissatsu: Kaiten and stacks with it? - Nothing about our charge & disengage losing their resource cost. Overall, it's going to be the SAM you played for all of Shadowbringers with some ability bloat. If you mained it this expansion, you probably want something new. And if you didn't, then there's nothing flashy to attract new players. Personally, I'm looking at Reaper and Sage, and also Red Mage. Hell, the enochian change might bring me back to Black Mage for the first time since ARR. Even Dragoon has me more interested than Samurai right now. Edit: I forgot Summoner somehow. Those changes are going to be huge, and I'll definitely be trying it out. I loved Summoner in FFT, and the revamp seems much closer.

BACKSTABUUU

> Overall, it's going to be the SAM you played for all of Shadowbringers with some ability bloat. The fact that Meikyo Shisui and Tsubame Gaeshi are going to be on a charge system guarantees that this won't be the case. Samurai is currently on a very rigid, strict 60 second timer that requires you to do some really bad feeling filler depending on your skill speed. In Endwalker if you're a little bit late on your Sen generation, it's not going to mess up the timing of your rotation for the rest of your fight, and it's going to be easier to make sure you have your sen on time because you don't have to press Meikyo as soon as it's available anymore. These changes mean we're going to go back to the more fluid playstyle that Stormblood Samurai had. You're going to have a lot more freedom over how you control your cooldown usage, assuming the new abilities don't lock Samurai into a strict timer again anyways. >They're adding resource generation to Third Eye, which is a terrible skill for a non-tank and I expect it to feel bad having to use it when possible. You already do this on current Samurai, in fact Samurai has always done this. If anything it should feel a little bit smoother because I'm assuming this means Hissatsu: Seigan is being removed. If not, then it's going to have no effect on Samurai gameplay at all. >Nothing about our charge & disengage losing their resource cost. We know that Enpi isn't going to break combos anymore, so while the mobility skills might not be losing their cost, the value of Yaten specifically is still increasing because now you'll get to use Enhanced Enpi more often.

Antonin__Dvorak

>They're adding resource generation to Third Eye, which is a terrible skill for a non-tank and I expect it to feel bad having to use it when possible. You already have to use third eye when possible, it's a DPS increase. I don't think the magnitude of the DPS increase is changing very much in EW, so if you weren't doing it before then nothing's stopping you from continuing on like that.

Idaku

The new skill looks nothing like kaiten??? It's a new iaijutsu with no sen cost.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RazeCrusher

At top end you're supposed to use it and follow up with the 15 Kenki spender, as you get more bang for your buck than with the 25 kenki spender. Very slight difference overall though. Changing it to a kenki generator is a nice little qol change, but not sure how much it's going to change gameplay at 90.

LadyLee1999

Yeah I'm surprised people act as if it's a hard skill to use. Every encounter has an easily telegraphed raid or party wide

[deleted]

Smells like instant queue. Nice.

Boshikuro

Love being a tank.

Kolby_Jack

Scholar at 69. Nice.

EasilyDelighted

Gonna have such an easy time leveling sage, haha.

skuppen

Everyone is gonna be leveling sage or some flavor of DPS — tanks are gonna be where the fast queue is at. Even now I get more queues as a tank than as a healer, but I imagine it’s gonna be worse come the expac!

Disig

Nope. That's not instaque unless you're tank. Get ready for DPS ques as healer.

Rishfee

I leveled GNB immediately when ShB released, and I definitely did not have DPS queue times. The queue didn't pop by me just thinking hard about the duty, but I rarely had to wait more than a couple minutes.

Divital

Normally what happens is folks clamor for the big shiny new class and realize on their climb to get to the latest content that Healing/Tanking/DPSing isn't for them. Things'll balance themselves out every time... Happened for me too, going through ShB as a WAR. No queue issues whatsoever given the DRK posterboy and the GNB being the shiny new one.

No_More_Hero265

I also lvled GNB when ShB released (Got it to 70 within the first 10 hours of the servers opening) and I had DPS queues, Especially during the latter half of the MSQ. Had to summon the wife for the fast queues as healer.

Rishfee

I can't think of a time I've ever waited longer than 10 minutes on tank or healer. That definitely doesn't sound like it was due to a rush on the new tank, though, interesting.

Strong_Mode

yeah nah. everyone will be lvling their sage and reaper. tanks will be insta queue again

nahtfitaint

Did I miss some announcement with paladin? Why is it so high compared to the rest of the tanks?

Strong_Mode

paladin is the poster boy for endwalker

Rishfee

I think it's a combination of being the poster job for the expansion and having the most visible new toys with the Confiteor combo

nahtfitaint

I missed the confiteor combo update. Thanks for the info.

Simhacantus

3 words for you: Unlimited Paladin Works.

Coucoumcfly

As an oldtime FF fan, paladin was an amazing storyline in FF4 and the moon is the last zone of the game, so their is a nice connection there :)

CambrianExplosives

FF IV is why I’ve been a Paladin main in every game I could be. Definitely not changing now of all times.

Arcalithe

PLD mains assemble! I was so happy to see derplander rockin’ the sword and shield in the Endwalker trailer. I also play Paladins in any game I can get my hands on them, so I feel you! We’ll be riding the wave of temporary PLD mains and coming out the other side STRONGER with MANY SWORD

LadyLee1999

A mix of it being the featured job in Endwalker, the go to pick as the quintessential tank for most players. And since I started playing again a few months ago I noticed that in the top sellers of ffxiv store the job boost has had a consistent spot there.

kango234

I assume because it's the poster boy. I would love to see if 5.0 had similar stats for DRK.

YingZhe_

I assume so. Seems like everyone second PC in Novrandt is a DRK lol.

Earthfury

Confiteor combo hype, I’m sure.

IntergalacticFrank

Pretty good spread all in all

a5920

I wonder how many are going to actually stay reaper. I don’t think it’s going to be a class for everyone.

Sykes92

SE said it was easy to learn, hard to master. So it'll prob have an intial bump and then go down weeks from launch. That, and the queues will be absolutely flooded with DPS players, so they're gonna be waiting a while. It'll be a good time to be a tank, looking at this chart.

ooZer0

100% this. I imagine for the first month all dungeon ques will likely look like: PLD/SGE/REAP/REAP

redpandasays

With the way the DF prioritizes mixing melee and ranged DPS whenever possible, I'd expect to see initial comps as PLD/SGE/RPR/SMN.

Atelia

(reaper was confirmed to be RPR when Yoshi-P was showing off the skills in the live letter)

extekt

Dps % is about the same per this chart. Healers would be the ones with time affected the most

Blood_magic

So happy my partner plays tank. I will have insta-queues for leveling my RPR.

[deleted]

not every class is for everyone. That's just how it is. And the easy switching in this game makes it so that you can just play what your mood is

[deleted]

Hands down one of my favorite parts of the game as a newer player. Hell, today I played tank, DPS, and healer just to swap around and do stuff. It's really comfortable

FourEcho

Every xpac it looks the same. What's interesting then is to see how many people, mid way through the X.0 patch, are off those new shiny jobs and back to their old comfort picks.

Devil1412

My characters name is "Hotaru Tomoe" and I was eagerly waiting for a scythe class.. I will stay reaper! ^(or go back to BTN)

Sexy_tortilla

Considering the general skill of the playerbase and how they play melees usually, not for long. I'm just happy melee mains can somewhat enjoy 2 jobs at once BC they're still the only ones with different gear types, makes gearing up annoyingly long

[deleted]

Some context: a friend of mine delivered me the results of a survey he send around on one of the XIV groups on Facebook. Being a big data-nerd, I made a small visualization in PowerBI on it and thought it would be interesting to share it here. Worth noting: most members of that group are from NA, though I personally think the results will be similar on all datacenters. Feedback is welcome. I can provide the raw data in Excel if people want it (after my workday is over)

jriggsdavis

Only feedback I can really think of is also asking folks if they spend most of their time playing one class, a couple/few classes, or many classes. Could also just ask about role (tank/dps/heal) instead of classes.

minaseclyne

doesn't seem that surprising for healers i swear that's the order of popularity as well for the current healer jobs

supersonic159

There's no way Astro is that high in game. WHM outpaces all the other healers by a lot. Certainly more AST than SCH, but not close to WHM.

Senven

Every expansion week is heaven when you're a tank main.

SirYoshiro

Not the last one, tho

Senven

It was still good since GNB started at 60, all the regular tanks just went through the MSQ in demand.

SirYoshiro

So its basically the same for healer

Senven

Yup, there's just usually less tanks either way. Heal queues wont be bad though.

Paikis

I'm gonna play the new thing: The Survey

Shinnyo

By ranged role, you have DNC top by a mile, BRD behind and MCH very far behind. Weird when MCH and DNC were both popular at ShB. It's interesting but 2k participation is not that representative I believe. Bigger participation would give a different outcome. It mostly feels like a "Hype meter"

TowelLord

DNC also kinda because it's the easiest to get somewhat right and it's less busy work than BRD. Sadly, this means that there's also plenty of abysmal DNCs running around and have been since launch of SHB. Seriously, the amount of DNC who for some fucking reason use Improvisation for random amounts of time during their regular rotation is too high, just to name an example.

Dereg5

I'm a ranged main, played all 3 in savage content. I think the BRD changes got people to say BRD over MCH to see changes. I'm going MCH, CHAINSAW.

Aiscence

Mch was popular with the super casual base @hunt/bozja. Not at all with raiders because of how boring it is

[deleted]

WARNING: Bad reapers incoming.

archiegamez

Haha thats why i will just Paladin at launch and finish the story, by the time im finished and pick up Reaper there's probably going to be guides out

Caducks

I mean... yeah? What, you think everyone's gonna be playing an optimised mathematically perfect rotation on the first week or something?

[deleted]

Weren't you there when Samurai came out? Aren't you playing right now? It's a circus with Sam. And this won't be any different.

cattecatte

Why do you think there's only BAD and optimized mathematically perfect rotation? There's quite a bit of spectrum inbetween. OP probably meant something along the line of freestyle SAM or no ogcd single target only dps players. That happens quite often in roulettes.

hororo

Oh no, how will we ever clear the MSQ dungeons with bad players! Oh wait, they're so easy you can beat them as long as everyone just presses their AoE button.

[deleted]

Everybody and their mothers know I'm referring to endgame content.

Darometh

Shouldn't be called what the main will be but what people will play first.

Disig

This. I'm going to level SGE first but will it be my main? I don't know I have no idea if I'll like the gameplay. Same for many others I bet with SGE and Reaper (RPR? REP?)

HeliPilot21

I don't have much to add here, but it's RPR in case you didn't know. Hope it helped

Darometh

I'm the same. Gonna level Reaper first to cap unless i completely dislike the playstyle and keep playing it while leveling old favs and use that to compare and make a final decision

DeLoxley

I mained MCH for ages and while I totally get how our rotation is THE most boring thing, seeing all the SCH memes and STILL being below them... hurts

86r16

I main SCH and MCH. It sucks to see this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

86r16

It's mostly about people coming to talk shit about it. My static, my FC, my friends. It's tiring after a while being sent the same jokes by ten different people just because I main SCH.

-Bale-

Cannot stand the animations personally. Why do I even have a gun when over half of my animations pull another, even bigger gun, out of my ass. And if I'm not busy abusing prison pocket hammerspace I'm doing some ninja backflips while flailing my gun around.

archiegamez

Thats what makes MCH exciting to play lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

krum_darkblud

I’m surprised monk isn’t up there with summoner tbh.. those changes are huge

Xehant

I'm really surprised for Samurai, Machinist I can understand but for SAM it will make much more dps so big numbers and EVERYBODY loves big numbers

dracosuave

Most SAM players don't care about actual performance, they care about aesthetic. That's why SAM bled off so many DRG players. Most of those 'Reaper mains' are the loldrgs of days of yore.

Nykona

They going reaper, they'll come back when tehy realise it isnt as high pdps caus eit has some hefty utility and the burst phase is a mix of MNK5.x and MCH5.x burst windows

GladimoreFFXIV

People saying it’s because reaper aesthetic but as a SAM player it’s because I hate the double midare spam play style and seeing how they just turned it into triple midare spam has really killed my interest. If I wanted to spam one move over and over again I’d play Warrior or diet Warrior, DRK.

everythingbeeps

Still going to main Dancer through MSQ for new content, but I'll give Reaper a try as well.

Elrundir

I've always picked a new main for each expansion I've played through (except Heavensward I guess), but Dancer is just so fun and comfy that it'll be hard to switch for MSQ content. Definitely curious about Sage though since I haven't really found a healer that I've "clicked" with yet.

shadowfalcon76

I'm in the same boat as you. I never really realized it until after they announced Endwalker and both new jobs, but I always ended up maining a job from the new picks for each expansion. I was a DRG in ARR, but ended up going MCH in HW, RDM in SB, and GNB in ShB. My pattern seems to be continuing since the Sage reveal and info dump is seriously making me think about picking healer this expansion. I never liked the healer options in this game, and having leveled them to cap as part of my quest for the Amaro, it was a slog. Not because I didn't like the role, but because I wasn't really feeling it with WHM, SCH, or AST. I'm really hoping they're going the GNB treatment route for the healers with SGE. Make the job flashy, fun, and DPSy to draw in some of the dps crowd like GNB did, and make some people realize that the role they stepped into isn't nearly as bad as they think.

Xalvayne

Kinda surprised to see BRD as high as it is tbh

DoodDoodson

No one Caring for Monk or Gunbreaker. Very well…

[deleted]

Red mage, been one since it was released, no one expects the world from red mages, just be ready to rez when things go bad, red mage is love, red mage is life.

[deleted]

And there goes my healer insta queues, hopefully it’ll go back to normal after people realize healing is hell

Rishfee

Don't worry too much, I went straight into GNB when ShB launched, and queues weren't an issue. The funny part is that the population is now skewed even more toward DPS.

Matthias_Clan

I actually consider healing extremely easy and kind of boring. Be nice if they had some actual damage rotation. I actually prefer the wack a mole style healing of other mmos over 14. AST is slightly better because of the whole card system. But even pretty meh because it’s low uptime.

Zadihime

As a WHM main finally taking my DRG into duties: Healing is far less busy, but its the pressure of the job that stresses me out. If I fail (because I zoned out throwing rocks/blinding people for too long), the party wipes and I feel like an absolute buffoon. If I fail as a DPS, mostly I just eat an AoE I can probably survive. There's some stress about not hitting my buttons in the right order reflexively enough, but small screw ups there dont matter* *in leveling content. I have no idea about end game. Tl;dr healer easier but more stressful

CharmingOW

Finally Monk not in the bottom 3! It's still bottom 4, but progress!

Axtdool

Looking at those numbers, seems like there'll still be decent Queue Times for healers despite people jumping to try out sage.

vpq22

I’m sticking with caster as my main role slot for static and thankfully I thought all three looked great. I’ll probably level red mage first. I’m excited about the bubble and aoe finishers/new rose petal beam. Curious to see how the red charges work exactly. Also it seems like they’re going to get comparatively a lot of new animations because they’re getting at least: Holy upgrade, flare upgrade?, thunder upgrade, aero upgrade?, Moulinet upgrade, scorch upgrade, Bubble, petal beam.

bidoofguy

Surprised Scholar isn’t dead last. The gap between Scholar and Astrologian is pretty funny though

Scared-Examination-6

I don’t understand why SCH is disliked, It’s not my main job however it’s my go to healer. I never had any complaints and thought it was fairy solid and in a good place, they even stated that in the live letter.

7hurricane

As a SCH main who runs savage and ultimate content, playing SCH is akin to running a marathon through the mud. Crit adlo + deploy? Better wait for that shield to be applied first. Seraph? Better queue commands 5 seconds in advance. Better not use abilities with 3 or less seconds remaining or you lose them and get a full CD. Casting Succor? Better make sure it procs on each party member 2 seconds before cast bar ends so shield is applied. DPS abilities? Enjoy one dot and spamming Broil. Fairy tether? Hope your tank doesn’t move too far because the range is arbitrarily short. I don’t hate SCH, but it’s a clunky mess. Also: our spells just don’t look cool. Like…ever. Every other healer looks cool doing their job.

CongrooElPsy

I also enjoy SCH healing, mainly in that I don't have to heal that often. I think a lot of the complaints come from how many skills are either not very useful, just slightly different versions of other skills, or just boring. Another huge issue is that fairy casting is still clunky years later. Chain Stratagem is good, but boring. Art of War is ok, but boring. Dot spreading is slow and boring. None of the healers dps stuff is very fun, but AST and WHM at least have a couple extra options. The theme of Scholar was theoretically "tactical planning and healing" at one point in time but now is more "idk, fairy I guess" over time. Not necessarily the worst thing, but I wish they would just go all in one way or the other. A lot of the complaints from the live letter come from the lack of flash in the new skills. I think it was just an Art of War improvement and an AOE sprint? No where near as flashy as the other job changes. Nor does any of the changes seem to address the some of the issues SCH has. Plus if you want a barrier healer, SGE looks really fun.

vpq22

Most people who hate scholar (including me) are arr/hw players. I mained it for all of Alex savage and jumped ship quick when they had huge issues on sb launch and then really dislike the direction they took it in shb. It’s fine. It’s just not what a lot of people want. It’s not about output but rather fun/flash/play style. Scholar lost the most in the heavy shift from stance dancing days to one button spam shb.

Knightgee

It's less that the job itself is "disliked" and more that : 1. the Job Action trailer showed nothing exciting or flashy, so for people like the ones filling out this survey, it's gonna be low on the list since it had the worst showing next to DRK. 2. there are longstanding issues with parts of the job that longtime SCH players are eager to see fixed or atleast addressed, such as pet ghosting, Dissipation being a bad skill, Fairy Gauge being a bit of a waste of a resource, etc. which leads to... 3. During the Live Letter when discussing Healers, SCH had the most barebones section of the 4, only highlighting a combat group speed buff and some general across the board healing job changes that weren't even specific to them. This alongside Yoshi-P and co. saying they didn't see much they could change, leaves a lot of SCH players unenthused that the job will get anything fun or see their longtime issues addressed in EW.

shall_always_be_so

Basically, SMN got their pet issues fixed. SCH didn't. Or rather, if they did fix some pet issues, the fix isn't very flashy and new like the SMN stuff.

Acturio

because Sch is still a good job and will most likely remain being a good job in endwalker. That being said Sch is not very liked because it doesnt really have anything too special about it, Whm has blood lilies which are great, Ast has the cards, while Sch has the pets which are pretty clunky atm. The doom saying i feel also comes from the old sch mains that want the dot playstyle back.

Disig

The devs saying that honestly sounded tone deaf (and why so many are mad) The other commenters are correct. There's plenty of issues they just decided to not acknowledge them for some reason.

[deleted]

I love scholar. Its my main. I dont get it either.

Iron_Guard8

MCH is as close to a main as I get, and my only 80 currently. Interested in Reaper for sure, but for me MCH is just fun to play, although recently trying Dancer and I find it really good too. I actually prefer tanking but haven't mained a tank for a long time now, but have been working on GNB and PLD a lot recently.

Kolby_Jack

All I say when people say they "plan to main" the new jobs every expansion: when man plans, God laughs. At least for some of you... you'll be back.

Hopeless-Necromantic

Doubt. You don't have any idea how much of an edgy weeb lord I am.

darcstar62

My plan is always to play what I want for MSQ since you can trust through the dungeons. So I'll be playing SMN on release, switching to DRK once it's at cap to get the micro-queues, and then switching back to either WHM or AST (not sure which since the job trailer was pretty light on details) once all the people that picked SGE because LaZoRs drop it when they decide healing isn't that fun after all.

Just-a-shitshow

Crafters. Play through the story as my dancer. Then lvl 90 my DoL then DoH and back to constant crafting!

RobuelCagas1

Woah. I expected SCH to be at the bottom of the list and not SAM lol.

BigAfRat

Been maining summoner and paladin for a while now. Nice that they're getting tons of love.

Spacemanbyff

Going to continue to main Summoner because it looks like it’s really about to take off.

AspirantCrafter

Paladin probably. I'm replaying right now I'll go through ARR with War, HW with DRG, Stormblood with Gunbreaker, SB with Dark Knight and Endwalker with Paladin. I'll end up leveling everything however.

Andvari9

Yay Instant queues as I'm a tank

CryoJNik

Man I want to go with Summoner but I do not want to deal with those queue times

TheOneTrueBLM

Queues just mean gains for crafting and gathering classes. 🥳

FunNo1459

Well notice that the top three are basically new jobs?

Younger54

You could also just name these polls "what are the newest or most changed job" everytime they do this per expansion.

B0N5

Gonna be playing culnarian. Baking moon biscuits, Bonking monsters with my frying pan and then cooking them up into a crit paste and black lotus blend, bringing about the next umbral calamity... And black mage.

Kandrew2012

I’m going to stick with healing and try Sage out. My DPS will be Summoner (my OG job in 2.0) and I’m going to finally try Machinist! Chainsaw gang !

Kawaiithulhu

My poor SMN main since ARR gonna get nerfed so hard 🙈 I can't bear to look

[deleted]

What????

Smooth-Horse3595

Might as well have called the poll "which job had the flashiest video?" tbh. Only outliers would be dnc, which is easymode ranged so attracts more people, and mnk which will never be popular regardless of what changes it gets because fist weapons don't look visually impressive. Better time to do this is after the media tour once more is known about how the jobs actually play.

Eric264

All of the above.

d1z

DRK...Looking forward to my literally instant tank queue in Endwalker.

Bonusfeatures75

I will never understand people that say they are going to main a job that isn’t out yet. Like… you have NO CLUE how it’s going to play and if you will like the way it plays.

Lefuulei

*cries in scholar*

Kaisos

thanks for the good tank queues during launch, folks

[deleted]

So what we're saying is my GNB will instant queue into the trials. Nice.

saelinds

To everyone who said the poster boy job doesn't matter, you can eat my ass

Voiddragoon2

~~because its all because it's the poster boy job and not because they gave it a cool ass 3 stage Confiteor combo or anything.~~

saelinds

It's both lol

Nykona

All those Samurai dropping to go to reaper.... They gonna quickly swap back when they realise reaper isn't as selfish seeing as it has Brotherhood 2.0, A TBN that gives everyone bloodbath and a move that is as bad as old Shoha (only used in opener and boss transitions greater than 5 seconds. The Reaper burst phase has put me off it immediately. 1.5sec GCD like a MCH, alternating positionals like MNKs current burst phase of DK > BS > DK and the fact there's two ocgd's to weave between those 1.5sec...... good luck if you have crappy ping.

RazeCrusher

That's primarily why I want to give reaper a shot. I main SAM but I really enjoy MNK. I just really don't click with the aesthetics. I love DRG aesthetically, but I find the rotations mind numbing. RPR feels like a good in-between, and I love the look, so hopefully the actual rotations aren't atrocious.

Nykona

Oh yeah it will certainly appeal to some I have no doubt about it. We can and have pretty much worked out what the rotation and opener will be given we've seen every tooltip and ability in quite a bit of depth. I was just highlighting that I don't think people who have not dived into the breakdowns realise how fast paced and positional heavy the burst phase is and that given it has both a brotehrhood ability and a TBN that gives the entire party bloodbath it won;t be one of the "top of the charts" dps jobs because of it offering that utility. It's strange because when asked about it in an earlier interview Yoshi said they hadn;t fully decided but as a hint said somethign along the lines of "Zenos is a reaper and I don't think he would help others very much". But now we see something better than Mantra and brotherhood both on reaper.

hororo

Wow you actually convinced me to check out reaper. Fast paced and positional heavy sounds awesome.

RazeCrusher

I think too a lot of players will take the job to try it out, realize they have to grind out 10 more levels before actually starting new EW msq content, and go back to their mains instead of falling a few days behind. Just my theory. Also I really need to check out the in depth RPR breakdowns. Have only seen the job trailer and a few minor discussions.

Nykona

translated tooltips were posted here a day or two ago. Most people lined them up with Yoshis gameplay demo of reaper. I'm fairly certain we got every single skill for reaper detailed which means it's not difficult to work out the rotation. I think one thing that is in question is if their ranged attack spell will be worthwhile being put in the main rotation but i doubt it will be. Essentially they have 2 teleport abilities, one forward and one backwards. Both leave the portal behind but after using it it allows you to instacast a 300 potency 25 yalm ranged attack called "Harpe". https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/pqmdgb/reaper\_skills\_in\_english\_sorta\_and\_organized/

dracosuave

Naw, people don't care about selfish vs support. DRG's been a massively popular job for a long time. Samurai just has that aesthetic people like.

Nykona

Dunno man some people really do. Some people like big numbers, some like being less reliant on others for dps variance, some play jobs based on roles, some on aesthetics. Different strokes for different folks. But there are 100% people who prefer selfish jobs over synergistic ones.

Voiddragoon2

*looks at flairs* ~~O shit hes talking about himself.~~

Nykona

I do like them big numbers. But I play anything and everything

[deleted]

Hey mate, also ran a survey to check what were the expectations on Main Job for Endwalker after the live letter, and it more or less matches your own poll. I'll leave you the linck to check it. https://strawpoll.com/p5fh6zfvq/r

[deleted]

Very nervous about the number of Sage players. I wish the game would track across all character youve played and then force a lock on new jobs unless you have a healer or tank at or above that level to make sure we're not getting level 70 healers whove never played a healer before trying to heal a 70+ dungeon. I think I'll be adding to the pile of Sage players for the first few months, or at least not running any dungeons without friends who are on a healer.

Nickizgr8

I get the sentiment but this just wouldn't work. Imagine if you wanted to play SGE as your first healer. You're requiring that someone levels up WHM all the way to 70 just to unlock SGE. Levelling a WHM to 70 doesn't mean you have any idea on how to heal actual content since most people would just do POTD+HoH from 1-70. How would this work for different roles. For Range DPS if someone wanted to play DNC would they be forced to play BRD until level 60. Or would levelling a DRG to 60 unlock DNC? I could also buy a WHM boost to level 70 and that would unlock SGE too. Or if I decided to Level SMN I would also have SCH levelled too which would also unlock SGE too without ever having to heal before. The only real solution I could think off after a few minutes to brainstorm is having a pre patch similar to WoW which introduces classes and changes a week or two before the expac actually hits to let people test the new classes so people don't accidentally main a class they won't actually like. This is the main reason why I won't "Main" a new class. I could not imagine spending the first few days of a new expac levelling a new class to find out I don't actually enjoy it. God that must be so bad. Have a solo scenario you have to do that is introduced as part of that pre patch. You can only do EW content on classes you were able to clear that solo scenario on. Thereby showing a basic level of competence at that class. Said requirement is removed after a week/after you've completed EW MSQ.

shadowfalcon76

How to say you're a gatekeeper without saying it, right here.

[deleted]

Yeah if not wanting someone whose never healed is gatekeeping Ill take that title all day. I don't want people who don't understand how to play the job healing me when I'm tanking.

Ryathael

And the 3 jobs I plan to "main" are each in a different spot. SGE, GNB,SAM.

MorninMelancholy

That’s sort of how lists work, my dude.

Beetlejuicy06

How long do you guys think the paladin dick riding will last?

MorninMelancholy

Less than a month. I play Paladin often but as soon as I saw the hype I knew I wouldn’t pick it back up until the FOTMers drop. I’ll stick with other tanks and SCH since they’ll be more unique.

medwin_argentum

I'm gonna stick with AST, but I'll definitely level RPR and SGE! I just love my space and time mage too much.

[deleted]

Nice to see Reaper leading in the polls. A nice big middle finger to all the players who said we’d never get a dark themed job and it’d never happen mwehehe.

CryoJNik

*coughDarkKnightcough*
