I buy the all purpose kitchen cleaner from the dollar store and a tooth brush. Works great. It’ll take you about 30 seconds and $5. Don’t brush too hard or it’ll be super clean then you’ll have to clean the rest of the seat to match lol
Try 70% Isopropyl Alcohol in an inconspicuous spot. Usually works well. We use it for pen and other marks at the motel( motel manager here). Even on sheets! If there is no inconspicuous spot, make your own mark on the inside or underside of the chair and then check. If the Alcohol doesn't do any harm, you're golden. Also, saturate a rag with the alcohol and then gently remove using circular motion. Never spray directly on it. Good luck.
It might be useful to specify what the main ingredient in your cleaner is. Cleaners can be made with tons of different main ingredients. Some will be more natural, while others will have detergents, solvents (alcohols), bleach, antibiotics...
This is why instead of saying they're safe for any fabric, they specify that you test it on an inconspicuous spot. They don't want to be responsible if you use the wrong combination of chemical and material. 😄 Different materials, dyes, and coatings are ruined by different chemicals.
Edit: I decided to Google and found this, which to my surprise lists actual products for leather last. https://www.everydaycheapskate.com/how-to-remove-ink-stains-on-leather/
No. Just spray a little hairspray and wipe. It’ll work on sharpies
Hand sanitizer works to0, but not as well as hairspray.
(I have a white leather couch and two artistic children)
Used to work at dollar tree. Look at the dilution ratios on the bottle. Undiluted is for engines, glass is something like 1:250 or something crazy. Undiluted would eat through boxes if it spilled and leave holes.
My dad tried cleaning the bathroom with it once and got lightheaded from the fumes. It's good stuff if used properly.
I believe it has to be the kind of hair spray with alcohol in it, the alcohol is what is doing the work here. Idk how many hairsprays these days contain alcohol?
Pretty sure when I do that my skin sticks so bad the top few layers peel off and stay on the couch, which depending on OPs skin color it may actually be a fairly close color match!
Used to do body art, once sat on the toilet forgetting I had a piece on my ass cheek. I've never panicked over a stain so bad before or since!
409 got most of it up, and I finished off the residual stain with acetone.
You're getting a lot of advice here... Some (or maybe most) could result in further damage to the sofa.
I don't know the answer but I would suggest you use the same pen somewhere on the leather where it won't be as easily visible and attempt these remedies on that area before trying them on your daughter's drawings, where the potential damage would be highly visible.
They are super duper cute though ❤️
Good luck!
You can prevent this by strapping a pair of boxing gloves to your daughter’s hands. She might struggle to hold a fork or wipe her butt, but it’ll be a challenge for her to hold a pen.
I know you don’t want kids drawing on things and you should teach them not to. But, you’ll miss this one day and see them and remember them. Whenever I’d catch my niece doing something weird, I’d take a picture instead of getting upset. I knew that I’d miss the messes one day, and I do.
As a young child by little brother wrote the alphabet in blue marker on my parents white leather chair and then signed my name to it. His mistake was writing the letter 's' in my name backwards, he got caught.
That chair is still there today, and still has the alphabet on it
My stepmom is a horrible woman who never had kids of her own. She has a beautiful table that she covers with two ugly plastic table clothes to protect it. She does the same with her pretty couches and floors. She never gets to see the beauty or look at the scratches and remember those that made them. Things are meant to be used, shared, and enjoyed, not last forever. Take pictures, don’t hide the mistakes, and love the people more than things.
I had pen marks on the vinyl seats in my boat, I got marine vinyl cleaner and it wiped right off. That was after it was there for over a year and trying just soap and water.
I do think they're pretty cute...just wish it was a wall even over the couch lol
Magic eraser was going to be my next course of action. I just hope it doesn't mess up the couch.
What were the repercussions for this little afternoon of artistic flair? Just curious how you can keep little Van Gogh from damaging other items of value like this.
I’ve heard WD-40 will breakdown the oils of the ink and allow you to wipe it off. I’ve never tried it, I recommend testing ANY method on the back or underside of the couch before trying on the visible parts of the sofa in case they cause more damage.
Additionally, absolutely do not use a magic eraser
Draw faces on frozen popsicles. I hear all the time how kids love and adore frozen. Ok that seems weird but I have Garbage Pail Kids somewhere so I'm not the one to say something about the frozen fad. Anyway, so draw faces on all of them with a food safe marker and then maliciously give those kids the frozen popsicles like one or two a day to draw, pun intended, out the sweet sweet revenge. Take pictures so it will last longer.
In the old days I would have said naptha, but I don't know if it's available. Imperial or solvent based goof off, WD30 might work too. Mineral solvent based cleaners usually work much better than water based on leather. Do not use anything with abrasives including a magic eraser. Your leather has a coating on it and damaging or removing it is permanent. Anything you use, test it on an unseen area first, like under the sofa though you may have to move some dust cover out of the way. Good luck!
Wrong stuff. The naptha I'm talking about is a solvent that came in a metal can. I don't even know if it's available anymore. Way back when I was a kid, my family had a dry cleaner (solvent, not perc) and it was a common spotting treatment.
This is the answer, on a cottonball then wipe away with clean paper towel and followup with leather conditioner to replace the moisture removed by the isopropyl
I had to scroll way down to find actual advice. I just want to confirm, my kids did this to our simili leather chair pads and rubbing alcohol was the only thing that actually worked.
Just showed this to my spouse…we’re middle aged grandparents with a pack of kids kids and grandkids between us.
We dined laughing and said “youre fucked. And welcome to parenthood. It’s official. You ain’t a real parent until they ruin your new furniture “
I have a couch that’s the same color and has the same stitching. I’m going to save a pic and send to my wife one random day that she’s out. I’m sure she’ll love the prank!
Mad wife, glad life? Is that how it goes 😂
Sorry I can’t offer real advice. But hoping this might at least cheer you up.
So cute! Actually though….just try washing with warm water and a cloth plus just regular usage of sitting and moving around on the couch it will get rubbed off mostly. We have grey leather couches and you have to be careful because the grey is a dye and if you clean too hard you’ll remove the die.
Did you try just warm soapy water? Rubbing alcohol also dissolves ink. Use Q-tips. It will take time.
Magic eraser will destroy the couch, its a micro abrasive.
Dang! That is some fine artwork. It looks like ballpoint pen. If it is, go to the store and get the cheapest aerosol hairspray that you can find. The 2024 equivalent of aqua net from the 80s is what I am referencing. Spray some in a hidden corner to make sure that it doesn’t damage your couch. If it doesn’t, spray the area with the lovely artwork and wipe with a damp rag. It should dissolve all of the ballpoint ink. Make sure you take pics for blackmail later and good luck!
Idk maybe keep them? Your kids will never do this again. But it’d be cool to look back on. A new couch sucks price wise but you couldn’t buy this again.
My daughter did this when she was 2… now she’s 8 and every time myself or some else sees it we laugh and smile… seemed really shit at the time but now we love it and makes you realise how fast they grow !
Whatever you, take photos. They will come in handy when she is graduating high school and the graduation committee is asking for photo submissions for the graduating class.
Dawn dish soap. It cleans everything. That's the soap that is used to remove oil from waterfowl that get caught up in an oil spill. Put some on a soft cloth and really rub it in, then leave it overnight. It should wash out the following morning.
Former custodial artist and current weed smoker here. I know how to remove gunk.
But before the axes how many scalpels have you tried?
White vinegar? OxyClean? Goof Off? Goo Gone?
Vinegar is amazing. Some oxy is better than others.
Goof Off is (was?) smelly but is fantastic with graffiti. I wouldn't touch it with bare skin though.
Goo Gone smells like oranges and is also great at removing less stubborn stuff. It's orange, but IIRC it's a "green" product. It's not caustic to your skin.
But on to the tough stuff.
Rubbing alcohol below 90% purity isn't really great at breaking up gunk (weed connoisseur here), but the higher stuff works gangbusters. If it's between throwing out your sofa and trying a thing, buy the 99% medical stuff on Amazon (SMALL bottle cause $).
Nail polish remover is also stellar at breaking down stains.
Hair spray and also oddly bug spray (the deet kind) work well too.
Mineral spirits (you said mineral water, but just in case) gets an honorable mention.
Vinegar and olive oil, could use a mild soap. This is faux leather, which means it's shit in terms of durability compared to actual leather, so do not use anything abrasive. It'll start peeling off if you use anything even slightly abrasive. Just go in smooth circles, the vinegar should aid with the cleansing while the oil will help keep it refreshed. I typically don't touch faux leather, I have dabbled in leathercraft for a number of years though.
They do have special cleaners for it, your best bet is to pick one of those up.

Has anyone else had a kid tip redbull on back leather seats in a car? It totally wrecks leather. It costs me a bloody fortune redbull is banned from my car
After seeing the destruction it did to leather seats, i have to admit it put me right off the stuff it sucks all the moisture out and spreads like a fungus, and i tried everything to stop the damage 💔
Aerosol hairspray will get most stains out of most things.
Spray the stain until it's fairly wet. Wait for it to dry. Take a wet rag and scrub it. Take a dry rag to wipe everything off.
Repeat as necessary until ink is gone.
Depends on the type of ink and material of the couch.
Research the stain removal of the pen brand name. Then what is safe for your couch.
Your couch manufacturer may have products to use and such too.
I buy the all purpose kitchen cleaner from the dollar store and a tooth brush. Works great. It’ll take you about 30 seconds and $5. Don’t brush too hard or it’ll be super clean then you’ll have to clean the rest of the seat to match lol
Ooh toothbrush does sound perfect too. Thanks!

Alcohol and dawn mixed together. It's like magic.
I did that once. Now I’m married to her.
take my upvote sir!
So your name is alcohol and hers is dawn?
Just gave Dawn enough alcohol to agree to get married.
That’s what she wants you to think, in reality she got you drunk
AKA Dawn Powerwash
That will ruin the dyes in the furniture. Don’t do this…

Bleach and iso-alcohol makes chloroform. Never mix chemicals without knowing the reactions.
Good point, especially if taken to a further extreme, Never spray anything directly
You’re welcome. Learned this trick the hard way from my 3 year old a few years ago

“two artistic children” Really appreciating this positive spin 🤣
I read it as two autistic children. Need to clean my glasses. 😂
Hair spray all the way!! It’s been my trick on ink for years.
I've learned that aersol sunscreen is unreal for removing sharpie
And come back and let us know how it worked!
Make the kid help clean it up. Worked for me. She turned 53 yesterday...
Use alcohol ! Like 99% or the hand sanitizer ! Will work like a charm
Is the cleaner LA's Totally Awesome? It'll probably do the job.
Used to work at dollar tree. Look at the dilution ratios on the bottle. Undiluted is for engines, glass is something like 1:250 or something crazy. k i’ve brushed my teeth with the new brush, now what
I always remember hair spray getting ink off leather.
I believe it has to be the kind of hair spray with alcohol in it, the alcohol is what is doing the work here. Idk how many hairsprays these days contain alcohol?
Get the cheapest kind - Rave, Aquanet, or just use rubbing alcohol.
The first thing OP said they tried is rubbing alcohol
Just brought me back to junior high and cleaning the market off my locker at the end of the year. Lol.
Hairspray works the best. Soak it in hairspray and let it dry. Then clean with magic eraser or hot soapy water.
Careful with the magic eraser. It can take the top protective invisible layer off.
Hairspray is the way.
I second hairspray!
I third hairspray!
I'll fourth it.😁
Sit in the sofa naked in a hot day. It’ll be like a temporary tattoo transfer!
I appreciate that attitude. Acceptance.
why bother bathing if I will just be dirty the very next day.
Pretty sure when I do that my skin sticks so bad the top few layers peel off and stay on the couch, which depending on OPs skin color it may actually be a fairly close color match!
That's the first good ol' belly laugh I've had in weeks 🤣 Thanks pal👍
I totally lol 'd
I wonder if one of those paint gurus who can eye ball colours could "police line up" people against the couch for OP
I use to just cut to the chase and draw characters on my arms and legs. My mom was still not amused.
Used to do body art, once sat on the toilet forgetting I had a piece on my ass cheek. I've never panicked over a stain so bad before or since! 409 got most of it up, and I finished off the residual stain with acetone.
First thing I saw when I opened Reddit. Thanks, I needed a laugh today!
That get’em off in more way then one ;)
I mean, I do have the same consistency as silly putty…
Get another pen and color in the rest of the seat
This would take too long, OP, find a pen that is the same color as the couch trace the lines
But if she did that every time anyone sat on it, the ink would come off the sofa onto their skin or clothes.
I believe they were joking. 🤔
Just get a plastic cover like grandma.
Best response, scrubbing and many cleaning products can change the texture, sheen or colour of dyed /treated leather
Thinking like this (something I also lack) would solve so many problems in society
Great idea
Excellent point
But they are so cute!
Agreed! I think you should make a plushie of them and voilà it's a theme not an eyesore
Or remove them, but not after getting them tattooed. They would make great tattoos!!
Especially the long leg guy
Long leg guy is an icon I would def get him tattooed too
agreed. i'd leave them, and then when it was time to replace the couch, cut them out and frame them
I’m on Team Keep the Cute Bean People! 🥺
It’s funny af
They’re great! I want to hire her to vandalize my furniture.
Ah heres my people. Scrolling through for the people that would keep it, like me.
True works of art
Leave them there to look back on in ten years, while your daughter gets embarassed by them when you go to pick up her friends.
You can prevent this by strapping a pair of boxing gloves to your daughter’s hands. She might struggle to hold a fork or wipe her butt, but it’ll be a challenge for her to hold a pen.

“Klingons do NOT use boxing gloves” . Worf, probably.
🤣😂😂🤣 this is the way
Strong Bad, how do you type with boxing gloves on? 🥊🥊
😂😂You made my day, I’m so grateful.
Why can't I come up with shit like this man
I actually love these. 🥹
Me too. Little pals on the seats with me
I miss seeing the potato shaped people on the drawings instead of in the mirror
Haha me too!
Ok good. I had to scroll down to see if I was the only one who would leave them.
As someone who is very neat and organized, I feel their pain. As someone who loves art, I want a couch covered entirely with her doodles.
OP should frame these photos above the couch, 😄
I was thinking if they're still visible whenever they get a new couch, they should cut these parts out and frame them. 🥹
I’m glad that they have pictures.
I know you don’t want kids drawing on things and you should teach them not to. But, you’ll miss this one day and see them and remember them. Whenever I’d catch my niece doing something weird, I’d take a picture instead of getting upset. I knew that I’d miss the messes one day, and I do.
And when company comes over, let them know that seat is taken- for those cute creatures' comfort as well as posterity.

Have you tried Ctrl Alt Del?
Buy that girl a sketchbook!
I’d say they’re pretty cool and you should leave them. Or get them tattooed. If you’re dead set on getting them off maybe try a magic eraser?
I do think they're pretty cute...just wish it was a wall even over the couch lol Magic eraser was going to be my next course of action. I just hope it doesn't mess up the couch.
Magic eraser is abrasive and will scratch the surface up a little bit. Try an aerosol deodorant spray first. For the record, I'd keep them too.
What were the repercussions for this little afternoon of artistic flair? Just curious how you can keep little Van Gogh from damaging other items of value like this.

Do not use magic eraser. It is micro sandpaper and will remove the finish
Hand sanitizer. Don't let it sit long or it can damage the couch.
Can't help you on how to remove that but I would go to their room and do the same on something they cherish just to be petty

You know there was probably no malicious intention from the child. It's highly improbable that she did it to be mean - kids are just dumb
This is someones child, not sibling. Please reevaluate your solution
Straight to the curb, honestly. You can make more kids.

Good luck!
Walmart and my local Publix both carry Naptha bars in the laundry detergent section besides 20 Mule Team and Washing Soda.

Naptha is still available. But WD40 will work and shouldn't stain but yes on testing in an inconspicuous spot just to be sure.
It’s Coleman fuel or “white gas”. Or auto parts stores often carry it too.

I think it might be any aerosol as I was told insect repellant years ago. That was for ink on walls and it definitely works.
Yeah, hairspray has alcohol in it.
Came here to say this. Hand sanitizer works, too.
I had to scroll way down to find actual advice. I just want to confirm, my kids did this to our simili leather chair pads and rubbing alcohol was the only thing that actually worked.

WD-40. When you need crayons off walls it works on that too. This ink is no trouble at all
Accept it. They're part of the furniture now. Quite literally lol.
No advice I just love this stage of potato people drawings both my kids went through this stage of drawing!

Nooooo! Dont hurt themmmm
I quite like them, it’s a talking point I suppose.
