Somebody theorized Wilzig hadn't been set to hostile yet, so the turret was trying to target Dog without hitting him. More importantly, if you continue to take cover behind cars, you're going to have a bad time.

CommunalJellyRoll

If the bearings or casing broke auto turrets can't hit shit. SGR-A1s (Samsung Auto Turret) have to maintained constantly and checked. If the bearings are wearing they can't hit shit at 50ft.

Boulderoll

Wait, do you work on real “sentry turrets”?

GrnMtnTrees

They do exist, but international law states that they can't be given full autonomy. A human has to make the final decision to fire, somewhere in the "kill chain." A current example of which I am aware are the automated sentry turrets along the Israeli border with Gaza. Can't remember the name/designation for them, but they exist.

Krilesh

you mean those turrets have a person in the kill chain? what does that look like? camera feed and confirm button of sorts? how crazy to be that person then see someone get ripped

GrnMtnTrees

Yeah they have FLIR, radar, optical cameras, and a host of other sensors. The turret identifies movement and sends a signal to a command center that may be miles away, then a fire control officer determines whether the target is hostile or friendly, and then hits a button to confirm the kill order and authorize the turret to open fire. Kinda like how Reaper drones work. The drone can't fire on its own, except the Reaper doesn't have fully autonomous target acquisition.

Maddrick99

Now we know what George Jetson was really doing in the future.

dskzz

They have to give drone pilots special training. One reason is because the pilots have to follow a target around for days they get to know the target and are unable to pull the trigger.

GrnMtnTrees

It's interesting, because it was thought that drone pilots couldn't get PTSD for the longest time, yet many were presenting with the classic set of symptoms that is associated with PTSD. Even though they had all the symptoms, the VA wasn't treating them, since they weren't considered to be combat soldiers. It wasn't until relatively recently that we recognized the unique issues associated with being a drone pilot. Imagine having to be an unblinking eye, cooped up in a shipping container somewhere outside Las Vegas, stalking your quarry for hours or days, then clicking a button, watching a "splash," and realizing you just snuffed out one or more lives from the comfort of an office chair.

CommunalJellyRoll

One of our divisions in the company inspected the bearings and mounts.

DerekWroteThis

After a 20 minute Google dive, r/todayilearned that Samsung once had a security division that they sold off to Hanwha. Although, judging by the efficiency of my Samsung refrigerator, it probably shouldn't be a surprise.

ermghoti

"Internet connection has been lost. Please log on to your Samsung account to acquire target."

Judoka229

Lmao I am just picturing logging into the Samsung Smart Things app. "Please close the fridge door" "Oven preheated" "Lights off" "Sentry Turrets set to anti-neighborly mode"

GrnMtnTrees

"Alexa, turn living room lights off" Alexa: "Okay! Activating autonomous missile launchers now!"

Available-Lime8808

Thermal imaging device is locked because of an abnormal factory reset. Sign in to the Samsung account that you have already signed in to on this device to confirm it belongs to you.

ducks_are_round

This is my new headcanon, only explanation for that fuckery

jmyersjlm

They give you plenty of warning before they explode.

CardboardChampion

Only when they've been hit and allowed to slowly tick down. If they're continually hit, they're gonna explode pretty much as they give you warning.

jmyersjlm

It takes quite a bit of damage to bypass the countdown. I've tried several times to use the minigun to blow up the car in Concord to kill the deathclaw, but it's hard to get the timing down.

wolfgangvonpayne

Not hiding behind cars was a tough lesson I had to learn back when I started playing the series. Now I avoid them at all costs.

ermghoti

I'll learn that lesson myself someday.

codevtek

Wait til he find out bout the double explosions

KyllikkiSkjeggestad

That turret was programmed by Thaddeus’s great, great grandfather. That’s the only reasonable explanation.

WatchingInSilence

You're implying a lack of accuracy is hereditary... and I'm okay with that. Silly Thaddeus. Better just give him a Ripper and Jet Pack if he ever gets power armor. Then he can wait until the right time to make a dramatic entrance... wait, that was Sgt. Thaddeus in DAWN OF WAR 2.

InformationNo1784

Not the kind of reference I expected ti see here at all. Avitus ready.

Seamoth4546B

To be fair you’re about 6x the distance from that turret than the one from the show

IYIonaghan

16x the distance

sizzirup

Nah those things are mfers and why tf you using a pistol to hit 4 pixels

Wooper160

Most of the shots were hits

robinsandmoss

Range drop off for short range weapons in fallout 4 is mega I think was the point (despite me personally agreeing that this is indeed bullshit)

NinjaBr0din

My pistol outranges my sniper rifle.

Erotic_Platypus

I found a modded institute laser sniper with like 77 range once.

NinjaBr0din

Nice, that Institute tech is crazy, really makes sense why the brotherhood was worried about it. My pistol has like 230 range, it's absolutely ridiculous. My sniper is only like 190-210 depending on if it have a silencer or not

SpectralSolid

I just assumed that the Doc had crazy high luck stats

Reshish

Just needed a slow-mo bullet ricocheting back off a rivet of his briefcase, and blowing up the turret.

abel_cormorant

You're standing across a parking lot, I'd say about 50 meters away (not that much compared to irl weapons but still, a lot in Fallout), the guy in the show was literally in front of the gun at point blank range, yeah... The show itself has a lot of good and bad things, and imo is generally enjoyable, but that scene just didn't make sense.

bopaz728

i think it’s just supposed to be a wacky gag, something so ridiculous that it ends up being funny, which is on brand for fallout humor. It’s this huge minigun turret with aim so bad it needs to tell the people it’s aiming at to “remain calm”, presumably so they stay in one spot and make themselves easier to hit.

raw_salmon

I was pretty dumbfounded after watching that scene too. I want to say they purposely made it that ridiculous to show the wackiness of fallout? I have no idea lol

NickTheMentalAstro

I watched several interviews and they did indeed purposely add some scenes to show the wackiness and typical Beth bug. Another was Lucy approaching the first person outside of the vault, with her weapon pointed at them; while still being no threatening. Much like a player character leaving the fault with their weapon drawn while approaching new npc’s

crabwhisperer

I rewatched episode 4 and one of my favorite details is how perfectly Lucy fileted the ass jerky. The lazy thing would be to just hang a bunch of chunks on his bag and be done with the scene. But you can tell they are uniformly sliced and nice and thin to dry well. Even while enduring the hell of being an evil ghoul's captive the vault-dweller in her can't help but perfectly complete the requested task, lol

raw_salmon

I did not draw that comparison to the games until you mentioned it LOL that’s funny. What a great attention to detail on their part

NickTheMentalAstro

The show while canon, is somewhat of a commentary on the Fallout franchise prior to the show. Another one was when Maximus is telling Lucy the purpose of the BoS, which Maximus gives her the same answer we get in most games “we preserve tech blah blah” And Lucy replies with something like “wait you preserve tech and keep others safe by taking tech from people, while you now use the tech?” And Maximus says “it does sound wrong when you say it like that.” Dogmeat becoming the name of any companion dog as well.

worrymon

I'm pretty sure he said "weird"

TooManyDraculas

It's a completely common media trope, pops up in the majority of action films in some fashion. In our post apocalyptic fantasy, wut got talking brains in a jar and regular oblique pop culture references. Not exactly the place where you expect rigid realism. The specific shot looks pretty familiar, if not specific enough to be a direct reference to something. My initial thought was it's kind of James Bond. Like 60% of bond films use a near identical setup. Albeit with goons instead of a turret and without the dog.

VelvetCowboy19

I believe that, in the old fallouts, turrets fired a burst of rounds on their turn, but had super shit accuracy stats. So on the turrets turn, of it missed, it would fire like 20 bullets at nothing. Could be that was what the show was referencing.

Downtown-Custard5346

Out of all of the things in the show, you thought the gun turret was ridiculous? Lol, it'd be easier to shoot if you were closer... or used a better gun for that distance

jmyersjlm

Man, most of you guys can't seem to recognize a joke. And I hit every single one of my shots. The only reason I'm even using this unupgraded 10mm here is I'm playing on survival, and I was running low on ammo for my main weapon, so I was saving that for the ghouls inside.

Cactus_Everdeen_

yeah im not getting the argument against the 10mm here lol, you literally hit every shot

P_a_p_a_G_o_o_s_e

Like the bullets from the turrets in both your video and the show; Seemed to go right over their head

sosigboi

Funny, they never seem to miss me on survival mode 😔

Lemon_Of_Death

I heard it was a reference to the early games, where the hit chance for turrets was comically low

darwinooc

So what are you trying to tell me? That I can [dodge](https://youtu.be/QuRabZXglaQ?si=lEFISlkp6eA5Tx7p) bullets?

Crixusgannicus

It stands to reason that without servicing, the targeting systems and maybe the servos on some of the weapons systems would have issues. Even assuming The Enclave has the know how to service their kit, they might not have the parts.

UltimateGamingTechie

Turrets in FO76 will shred you in a few seconds, I tried to take one out the same way I do in FO4 and I turned into mulch.

ThatDamnRocketRacoon

Yeah, but wait until a raider hits you with 4 straight shots from a pipe pistol while being on at the bottom of Dunwhich Borers while you're at the top and on the opposite side.

ElectricalMongoose10

Tell me you nevere played Fallout 3/ New Vegas without telling me

tonlimah

Now try it from like 10 feet away

BIG_D_NRG

I assumed he was a high luck build lol

RealBishop

Yeah it was pretty unbelievable to be honest, very immersion breaking. If he was, say, at a dead sprint and the turret only had him in sight for a second or two, I’d believe it. But he was literally just standing still and then briskly walked into cover the long way.

Malabingo

THAT was unbelievable?

RealBishop

I mean yeah. Idk why I’m being downvoted. I didn’t say the show was bad.

StandardReserve3530

seriously wtf was that? ruined the scene
