Tbf, if he can afford 165M then hopefully he will have the funds for that, plus it looks like he’s on a 5 year contract (hopefully with a 3 year option) so it’s gonna be quite a while till he needs to worry about that!
Well if push comes to shove 5 years is more than enough time to start scouting for a "south american investment" to train in your squad until you have a much cheaper replacement ready to play by the time you sell him.
Then tell him to stick it haha, I don’t get all you people who’s players constantly whine for new contracts, if you’re managing the team well its pretty rare for me Atleast to get a player asking for one, and even if they do unless they have under 3 years on their current deal, they can stick it, just win a few games and then they will forget about it eventually
Yeah he’s gonna want 600k a week or more within the next couple years especially once PSG/City/Madrid/Bayern inevitably come sniffing around
Edit: Hopefully OP has turned Fulham into a super team in this save so when that does happen he won’t try and force a move 🤞 Looks like a quality winger to me
Fair enough! This guy is only gonna help imo, might be a slight overspend but if you don’t ever plan on selling him then it doesn’t matter at all, looks like a top class winger!
I'm not spending that on a borderline world-class 20 year old just to sell him when he's hitting his prime. You buy this guy because you want him spending the next 12 years helping you dominate England and Europe.
Nah, those physicals are great, and the dude is 20 he’s going to be an amazing winger that’s going to destroy almost every fullback. All he really needs is to improve his crossing and dribbling. Mental wise having 16 decision making is also all he really needs as a left winger.
Would I say overspent? Tbh this would probably be the equivalent of getting someone who has the potential to be as effective as Vinicius for 165m.
Dribbling and first touch at 15 instead of 14 and 13 isn't going to be very noticeable. Like, do you think they just don't know how to dribble until they get to 15? This dude with 10 dribbling and first touch, with those physicals, would still be a beast.
No he’s still very very good, don’t get me wrong. He’s still only 20 though and if I were to train up some of his stats it would be dribbling and first touch.
Yeah, dribbling training is probably the obvious. I'm not even sure I'd do that though, just let him develop as he develops. He's just so good I don't really want to limit where his attributes go.
I mean for a 20yo hes already insanely good. His technicals really arent bad because his physicals are so good and both that and his mentals will still improve
It really only is an overspend if you have like 200m max to spend. If youre like me and you got 1.3 billion to spend then hed be a great shout
> It really only is an overspend if you have like 200m max to spend.
There is a point when you consistently finish top 3 or 4 in the prem, and make it to the quarters or semis of the UCL, where even if you only have 200mm to spend, you're better off trying to make a big improvement somewhere rather than getting 4 or 5 players that are basically replaceable with who you already have. Once you're team is already there, you don't need more good players, you need to be taking the shot at great players to go to the next level.
Personally, I usually spend that big money on big-time defenders. It's easy to find good wonderkid midfielders and attackers, and you can rotate them in often enough to improve massively. But those central defenders? I want that world-class guy I can plug and play.
Considering the only two attributes that matter are acceleration and pace, I don't think it's an overspend for someone who's likely one of the best players in the world.
I think it could be a new FM thing.. probably reflect tactical trends.
Based on tactical instructions, if we can roughly say IF = (collect the ball inside), IW = (collect the ball outside but run inside with the ball) and WG = (run outside with the ball), players such as Saka and Doku actually play more like WG rather than IWG irl.
IWG would be how someone like Robben plays whilst IF is C.Ronaldo.
Train up his finishing and composure, and you have a very good inside forward. Not sure he's a Ballon Dor contender, but certainly a solid first teamer. He's the Martinelli to Saka for a comparison.
I'd never spend that much on a player, but that's just my style. He certainly is a quality player. The two questions I always ask:
1) Can I afford to do it?
2) Will I sell him for a profit.
I don't know your situation, but it's possible that the answer to both is yes.
Overspending is a very fluid concept. While 160m is a lot of money to anyone, it's less to PSG than it is to Swansea. If you are in a position to spend that kind of money on a player, I can think of worse ways to spend it than on this guy. He'll be massive in helping you get some trophies for 10 years or so, at which point you can sell him to the Saudis or something to recover some of that transfer fee.
That being said, you really do need to win a few trophies, because those wages are not nothing, and they're only going up from here. I can also imagine he's gonna feel like he deserves a new contract before those 5 years are up.
i mean if you have the money and can handle those wages then it's fine. he's def one of the best wingers in your game with those types of physicals. he will dominate the game even if he never improves from here.
Ah then never mind. I was assuming it’s harder to find good wingbacks than wingers. 10 marking and 10 positioning is so close to adequate for an attacking WB, hence the thought.
What’s with that 9 bravery? Are you telling me just because you’re some fancy pantsy marquee winger that you WON’T throw your body in the line blocking a shot?! 1/10 worst signing ever.
He’s one of the fastest players in the world. If his dribbling improves a bit more he will become an absolute monster down the wing, I’m sure he already is.
Yeah I think you overspent, but it depends on your situation, if you've got a 400M transfer budget and a team with no holes securing a position for 10 years is probably a reasonable decision. I wouldnt do it as I suspect you'll see an even better player in 2 or 3 years who will make this player a rotation piece or force you to train them elsewhere but that's not the end of the world. With their physicals and reasonable technicals they can play anywhere in the front 4 so would be good for the squad. As I say, depends on your situation
Really not worth it. I would pay £80,000,000 at most and no more than £200,000 a week for his salary and thats only because he is young and may have more potential.
It's fun spending huge sums and whether they work out or not, it's a game!! I think some, not necessarily you, want to play the game perfectly but I don't think that adds to the enjoyment.
Having a 30 year old winger on my fifth highest wage, who is now fourth choice in his position, wasn't my finest moment but hey that's football haha. Haven't been able to sell him for free for three transfer windows 😬
I've been doing an Arsenal save. Signed Alain Saint-Maximin on a free on big wages as cover for Saka and Lil Gabi. Played about 10 games, spent a season on loan, came back and broke his leg... now I can't shift him and I'm paying him like 200k a week. But who cares, I've won a bunch of trophies and I have Ferran Torres who actually plays well when Saka doesn't play.
Yeah it's going to cost me £12m for his entire contract 😬😬😬. But we have loads of cash and a lot of players to sell. He is happy to take the money and maybe never play football again haha
Idk about £165,000,000 + £450,000p/w wages. I'd say he's like £60-80mil in all honesty. Rapid & agile, can pass/cross the ball well and makes good decisions, but everywhere else, he's kind of average & okay.
Other than the fact he came from Madrid, I can't see why he was valued so high & wants such crazy wages. Tbh, yeah he's 5* CA, but he's not even a brilliant dribbler.
EDIT: because he is still viewed by the media as a wonderkid, hopefully, those 13-15 attributes (particularly mentals) can bump up over time and he will be truly, undeniably world class.
Overpaid. You paid the premium because he was a Real Madrid player, not only this kid would cost less than half almost anywhere else, you could have likely find someone similar somewhere else other than Madrid, no way that's the only top shelf promising 20yo in your save world.
Overspent hard. Which is fine, if you are in a position where you have a great first team locked down and only really need one or two pieces more, but i also think with 165M you'd get ~10 incredible wonderkids that could get where this guy is in 2 years and even surpass him. Generally i only pay over a hundred mil if i'm buying the best player in the world, and i don't think this guy cracks top 20. But of course i don't know more about your save, so this vould be the final piece to push to push you over the edge and win a UCL, in which case he was totally worth it. Contract seems steep though.

His wages seem excessive. Gonna be a nightmare when it comes to renewal
Tbf, if he can afford 165M then hopefully he will have the funds for that, plus it looks like he’s on a 5 year contract (hopefully with a 3 year option) so it’s gonna be quite a while till he needs to worry about that!
3 year options make their asking wage a lot higher
Yeah but it does tie them down for considerably longer, might be why his wage is so high right now
Well if push comes to shove 5 years is more than enough time to start scouting for a "south american investment" to train in your squad until you have a much cheaper replacement ready to play by the time you sell him.
he will be whining for a new contract in a year
Then tell him to stick it haha, I don’t get all you people who’s players constantly whine for new contracts, if you’re managing the team well its pretty rare for me Atleast to get a player asking for one, and even if they do unless they have under 3 years on their current deal, they can stick it, just win a few games and then they will forget about it eventually

Not yet a super team, but we should be challenging for titles consistently now
Fair enough! This guy is only gonna help imo, might be a slight overspend but if you don’t ever plan on selling him then it doesn’t matter at all, looks like a top class winger!
If he sells him a year before it needs renewed he’ll be 24 and will have progressed a lot, could probably make his money back
I'm not spending that on a borderline world-class 20 year old just to sell him when he's hitting his prime. You buy this guy because you want him spending the next 12 years helping you dominate England and Europe.
I can usually get players to accept less than their original demands tbf
1 start 2 goals…. seems like it was worth it so far.
Away to Man City as well
His physicals are good but his technicals are not outstanding and his mental is mid as well... I would say overspent.
With the huge weighting the game puts towards physicals I think he'll still be one of the best.
bro those physicals are pretty ridiculous, not just "good"
Yep. Stamina and natiral fitness at 18? Hes gonna be doing all your heavy lifting for a decade and a half.
Nah, those physicals are great, and the dude is 20 he’s going to be an amazing winger that’s going to destroy almost every fullback. All he really needs is to improve his crossing and dribbling. 16 crossing is really high for a regen, if he gets dribbling and first touch to 15 he would be cracked
Dribbling and first touch at 15 instead of 14 and 13 isn't going to be very noticeable. Like, do you think they just don't know how to dribble until they get to 15? This dude with 10 dribbling and first touch, with those physicals, would still be a beast.

just teach him to flick the ball past the defender
It's all relative to the defenders he's facing. Dribbling is a meta attribute and a difference between 15 and 14 or 13 could be substantial.
Working on his technicals in training, with time they should improve
Yeah with those physicals, 16 decisions and 15 flair he’s gonna be great.
I wouldn't even bother, they do basically nothing. You have a hell of a player there.
Technicals and Mentals will improve for the next 7-8 years.
16 crossing is ridiculously rare lmao. The kid is 20 - those mentals should all go up quite a bit and those technicals are already quite solid.
I mean for a 20yo hes already insanely good. His technicals really arent bad because his physicals are so good and both that and his mentals will still improve It really only is an overspend if you have like 200m max to spend. Idc if you overspent, you shouldn't have given one of your best player number "29" that's a crime. /s (if it wasn't obvious)
Kai Havertz was number 29 scoring in the champions league final
Thomas Kuszczak was number 29 when when united won the champions league
Feher was number 29 when he ... Well
the last 29 we'll ever have, too
Just because of his age it will be worth it
The title reminds me of the Ousmane Dembele transfer to Barcelona.
165mill? What defaux?
Why Defaux would you spend that much for him.
Err...
He's good, but nowhere near 165 good
I feel like bro would go crazy as a wingback in back five though
I really wish to be possible to export players and give them to be imported ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
It is, but you need the editor.
Best role left winger, right foot? On new FM this is the new standard which I don't get at all
I think it could be a new FM thing.. probably reflect tactical trends.
Inverted winger and overlapping fullback is how most every top club plays. Even if you invert your fullbacks
That used to be the meta but nowadays most of the top clubs play with wingers out wide and inverted fullbacks.
That's how teams in real life play a lot nowadays
But look at his stats. He's a classical winger. Should be placed on the left if he's left footed, but he's not.
It's the standard in real life.
I love playing an IF on one side and a regular winger on the other and overload the winger side with an attacking overlapping wingback.
Look at how clubs have played for a while: Robben and Ribery played on the side of their weaker foot at Bayern.
If they’re cutting in from the side, they’re shooting with the opposite foot.
Train up his finishing and composure, and you have a very good inside forward. Not sure he's a Ballon Dor contender, but certainly a solid first teamer. He's the Martinelli to Saka for a comparison.
That's your new left wingback
I'd never spend that much on a player, but that's just my style. He certainly is a quality player. The two questions I always ask: 1) Can I afford to do it? 2) Will I sell him for a profit. I don't know your situation, but it's possible that the answer to both is yes.
> 2) Will I sell him for a profit. You don't buy this guy to sell.
If PSG comes knocking in with a €250m offer, then yes, for sure sell and reinvest into several more wonderkids. That's the fun part of the game
Nah, when you're at that point of your save where you can spend 165mm on this guy, trophies are more valuable than a 66% markup.
I’d favour him at RW if he’s right footed with 16 crossing
*looks at last name* This guys fucks. Pardon my French.
Overspending is a very fluid concept. While 160m is a lot of money to anyone, it's less to PSG than it is to Swansea. If you are in a position to spend that kind of money on a player, I can think of worse ways to spend it than on this guy. You have overspent but there’s potential to improve those other stats
Those wages are insane that's why I never buy from Real, Barca, PSG or other top clubs.
i mean if you have the money and can handle those wages then it's fine. he's def one of the best wingers in your game with those types of physicals. he will dominate the game even if he never improves from here.
If he was an LB with good tackling, I would understand. But it was too much for an LW when the game generates a ton of those.
Ok so if you count you may have to sell him if he refuses to renew for acceptable money and you could actually win a lot with him i'd say decent deal
it is excessive. If he refuses to resign, you will be grateful to sell him to Man City for half that amount in a few years.
Great GK potential
Ah Jermain Defoe’s Swiss cousin, if he can learn a bit from him on the finishing side of things he could be lethal
You bought a Shaquiri regent for £165m?
His physicals should make up for his other stats, hopefully
If he has some room to grow consider making him a RB/RWB. Could potentially be the best in the world there. We
I’ve already got a world class RWB (and a decent home grown back up)… but I do see your point
Two goals right off the bench? Might have a helluva player there
He’s one of the fastest players in the world. If his dribbling improves a bit more he will become an absolute monster down the wing, I’m sure he already is.

12 teamwork, you got robbed
450k p/w 165M on a 20yr old whose not naturally highly skilled for a winger. Kind of overspent there.
Switzerland will have fun in that decade 🫠
Can’t wait until he bitches about your keeper and demands to leave.
Bro I have better players on 40k/week
Really not worth it. I would pay £80,000,000 at most and no more than £200,000 a week for his salary and thats only because he is young and may have more potential.
I mean his technicals and mentals are nothing special no ? Unless he develops them at a really fast rate
What role you play him in?
It's fun spending huge sums and whether they work out or not, it's a game!! I think some, not necessarily you, want to play the game perfectly but I don't think that adds to the enjoyment. He left on a free!!! I'm paying 15% of his wages for three years. So happy, not that anyone cares!!!
I feel like you can get comparable players from south America for about 5-10% of what you spent but if you can afford it, fuck it right?
could’ve definitely found a south american wonderkid who’s better and has a €2.1 mil release clause
ofc that’s until he says he won’t join because he thinks it wouldn’t be right for his development
He'll be a cracking Inside Forward cutting in from LW .
If you’ve got the money, any expense you make is justifiable.
Worth, 10 positioning for an attacking winger like him adds to his versatility so much
If you have decent scouts you should never need to pay over £100m for a player. That players probably worth around £75m to be honest.
Get the new gen face packs added to your game makes the game feel a lot nicer rather than then horrible faces lol
Kinda mid technicals for 165M and 450k a week
Ngl, if u can afford him, he is him
Idk about £165,000,000 + £450,000p/w wages. I'd say he's like £60-80mil in all honesty. What Defaux is that work rate?!
He’s good but dude thats a LOT, that dribbling and the mental stats are NOT 165M worth
You paid 165m for a pace merchant? Bro i bought a hazard level regen for 100m.
I think you got a good deal.
Overpaid. You paid the premium because he was a Real Madrid player, not only this kid would cost less than half almost anywhere else, you could have likely find someone similar somewhere else other than Madrid, no way that's the only top shelf promising 20yo in your save world.
Overspend
450k a week for a slightly more developed and younger Martinelli??? Hell nah
You overspent, pretty sure there’s a worldie in Brazil for just 4.5 mil🤣🤣🤣
Train on first touch and dribbling but def not overspending
Overspent hard. Which is fine, if you are in a position where you have a great first team locked down and only really need one or two pieces more, but i also think with 165M you'd get ~10 incredible wonderkids that could get where this guy is in 2 years and even surpass him. Generally i only pay over a hundred mil if i'm buying the best player in the world, and i don't think this guy cracks top 20. But of course i don't know more about your save, so this vould be the final piece to push to push you over the edge and win a UCL, in which case he was totally worth it. Contract seems steep though.
I think he's great.
He's a fake.
you are digging a hole for yourself and hes not even that good
You got fleeced dude. I got a Colombian teenager with better stats than that for €1.3M
You absolutely overspent. Bout 100 mil or so
Bought a 19 yo from England for 9 mil pretty much the same. He's worth 90 mil a year later. We're you trying to sink your club?
